I was thinking the same thing, spend all that time and money building that simulator and then you are going to cheap out on the screens? Makes no sense.
personally I like my setup of 1x 38" ultra-wide and 2x 27" 16:9. They all have the same vertical height but doesn't feel super overwhelming (I have tried 3x ultra-wide, it felt a bit claustrophobic). But the amount of screen real estate is just so much xD (And I havent mentioned my 18" old school square dell monitor that I have on top that has diagnostics constantly running)
I used a motion sim once in a GA airport and it is just amazing. It's a weird experience I will say, because you feel like you are in a plane and you are flying. The one is used was similar to the mono+duo but was made by a different company.
These personal pod simulators have been around for decades. Literally , In the 90's in NY i use to attend the annual Tech convention at the Javits center. It was the East coast equivalent to NAB. Showcasing everything in tech computers animation software and hardware. And of course things fringe tech. So every year came such simulators from Japan and South Korea. And several of the designs remained true since, including this one. The immersion is indeed impressive. Far better than any moving chair. only problem most would take up the fullness of ones garage. or at least a room in ones house. still. its great to see some of those companies still at it.
Azivegu the maker should strip the screens of the black lines , and leave only a small margin, it's just insane the amount of work and them you have 3 lousy screens, at least put 3 curve ones for max immersion, and also the fact that it was no windows just kills me , FYY also need a plane chair not a racer one .
if you were to get rid of the bezel (that is the black edge around the screen) the panel would just fall off. And if you managed to make it stay, you would have massive light bleeding issues then.
exactly what i was thinking. like do you buy the machine and put your own monitors in it? id be pissed if i bought this and it came with those ugly ass screens
Thanks for the ride along! I agree, even though this sim lacks the two side screens, it's plus would have to be the immersion aspect. Loved the video, as always. Keep up the great works! :)
I've tried one of them, for a Squirrel helicopter (no jokes on the name) which is in the RAF base near me as its the earliest training that all RAF helicopter pilots do and it was massive.
This is simply an amazing concept. Beautiful , compact, superbly designed,. Lots and lots of brain behind such an innovating concept. Not sure about the price but certainly not cheap. I think that the immersion must be absolute. Wish you plenty of success. Truly wonderful.
The one I’ve been waiting for YAY (And you did it in New Zealand where I live) I wish he could show us more of flying (he doesn’t have even need to be talking when he does it)
I have been meaning to ask you. Do you know who the lady in the still picture is at 23:32? Looks like it was taken in New York in the late 40's or early 50's. Curious that it just pops up there.
This seems to be very expensive to have private, but then you would need to worry about the cost of powering it. Nice as always, thanks Squirrel for taking your time for recording this.
I had an idea to float the sim on water, such as child's paddling pool. Would make it easier to move and give a more floating sensation. My sim at work had originally a x/y axis motion driven by linear hospital bed motors, Arduino from FSX. Once i fitted front and side screen and block out external ques, i found i didn't need the motion. In real aircraft, balanced flight there's very little movement unless extreme manoeuvres are done. In fact just moving the seat on springs would be more realistic. And of course can't replicate G.
Im lovin this enclosed simulator, but as I'm only learning about flying, cud you or somebody please tell me what is the 'strobe light' and what does it do and do you need one in ALL planes ? Please
It's interesting for sure. Only drawback is that real airplanes have a 90 degree view on both sides. When you fly traffic pattern, you generally start setting yourself up for an approach on downwing leg and adjacent to the end of the runway. It would be better if there were monitors at 90 degrees and entry was made from the rear maybe. ??
Can you use Addon aircraft like A2A C172/182 and the like? Or is it just the not very good default? Is there a fixed price, or is there options? I don't want to call the people just to get a price. I'd rather have one around here so I can go fly in it.
This would've looked better with a projection screen wrapped around to the sides, they could've hidden the projectors in the molding easily. I saw a guy do his homemade simulator with a screen and 3 projectors, but not having the windows( screens) on the left and right seems weird since ya look outside to check your wing. and it would've been nicer has a 2 seater to be more authentic.
Great video, great choice of location. If you have ten to fifteen knots in that neck of the woods, the bullets of wind skidding down and around the lee of the rugged and irregular terrain would be a lot higher. Is it possible to simulate likely wind movement not just on the aircraft but over terrain itself or is that a processor or two too far?
Same here Keren. I got back from the airport a couple of hours ago. The next time I can afford to fly is two or three weeks away. Flew over the house and my wife waved at me.
I would have preferred a Boeing 737-800. Since it is unlikely that I would fly either a Cessna or the Boeing, I select the one I have spent most time in. My GF once gave me a flying lesson in a Piper which I both started and landed myself. Contrary to what pilots tell, MS-FS DO give you something...and certain things was actually easier IRL- unlike the flightsim, you can feel the 'pillow' of air under the plane when you flare out - pretending not necessary. It was a perfect experience - but I can live without repeating it. So RL flying is reduced to traveling - consequently primarily as a passenger in a Boeing 737-800 - and A320 once and a while .
This is nice but in it's infancy. C'mon guys, we need a single wrap around screen! I know it is hard to create, but we will have it in 10 years, why not be the first? Well done!
Sorry, but Edward Link was the inventor of the first true immersion simulator over 75 yrs ago. His Link Trainer trained pilots for WW2, but it had been around for a few yrs before that training Air Mail pilots in the US. Google Link Trainer.
That looks amazing, having flown IRL yourself, would be interesting to hear your opinion on how close your experiences at Virtual Fly is to the real thing. I've been in RAF Waddington's sim, but that must have been nearly 25 years ago now, I remember it being pretty cool when I was 12 to 14 I think. Also a bit editing advice, as you come to park up, there's a short cross fade, would've been better with a straight cut, as you're just changing angles and not showing any passing of time or change of location.

Its affordable when you think about it. 57-60k and you got yourself a man toy for life. Im really considering one.
Hi Squirrel, quick question about this product, how's the noise isolation inside? Could it possibly drown out the noise of the wife yelling at me, let's say if she's right outside?
It appears that the imagery is not scaling correctly .... the mountains never change size or focus as yo approach them. Also, the 3 panels are consumer level, this sim should be using a projected wraparound display .
That reminds me of an F/A-18 simulator I tried when I went to the USS Intrepid museum in New York... I almost puked my guts up when I got out because I was throwing it about so much!
Nice design, except for the hokey three screen display... You couldn't spring for complete hd surround? The video isn't much better than a desk top. I think VR with a motion simulator would be better.
Now for the big question: How much would an hour flying in one of those be, in relation to renting an aircraft? Because if it's significantly cheaper, than that's a great learning tool - especially as you can train things that would be too dangerous in a real aircraft. Can the sim also simulate failures?
Brilliant! Is it just me, im sure i saw Squirrel reaching for the bottom part of a wheel a couple of times, as if he was on ETS2 ... I could be wrong but i kinda chuckled, its something i would of done
Am sure that the 2.0 model will come with interchangeable panel. But, for being a Training/Fun FTD I think it will do. Any device where you can inject motion I think is a major step forward too. Also, think how much it will save a pilot in IFR Training too. Now, the price, it probably will be kept out of the hands of most. I'll have to save my pennies for this one. But, great step forward to the team.
What would be the retail price for one of these? And I wonder where the movement information come from, are they already part of P3D? So would it be possible to use it with another sim like x-plane?
a tip for the future - there's a lot of runway there for a C172. For a smoother landing, reduce power a few feet above the runway and gently flair. Imagine you're trying to hold off from landing for as long as possible. This should work for all flap settings too.
Where is the earth curve indicator. The instrument that would tell me how much to nose down to follow the shape of what I’m flying over. Over a normal 500 miles flight there would be about 167,000 ft of elevation change Surely I would need to adjust
Wait until the VR support for MS2020 is out and you have an immersion on a completely different level for a small fraction of the costs, even if your seat is not moving.
This is a common misconception with low-end, motion simulators (and believe me, as a professional aviator with over 30 years and 12,000 hours in everything from Gliders and Helicopters to Jets - I've flown in just about every simulator platform there is.) In an aircraft in a coordinated turn, there is no sensation of "rolling". Instead, the lateral "rolling" of a simulator is used (should be used) to replicate the feel of "yaw" in an actual aircraft. Likewise, in real, full-motion, LEVEL C & D simulators, the "pitching" motion of the simulator is used to replicate the feel of acceleration and deceleration. Watch a video of such a simulator in operation during an actual training flight and you'll observe what I'm trying to explain.
VR is already much better and much cheaper, and improving rapidly. Xplane 11.2 is amazing and puts you into the cockpit and you have 360 degree view, horizantal and vertical.. you can look down and see your shadow on the ground, see the traffic on the airport, have a tug give you a pushback, fly approaches in a 737, 747, helicopter, and do many more amazing things. VR give you the sensation of motion, and the roller coasters will demonstrate that as will jumping off a mountain with a wingsuit.
I scaffolded something similar to this. Was a flight sim for the euro-fighter when they were testing years ago. it had a spherical screen inside. pretty sure i signed a disclosure but meh.
Owe and if that 500 miles flight is to the north the earth would be rotating under my airplane from west to east at out 1000 mph in my area. When do I adjust for that.
Uhh.. so, like every other professional simulator? Fully enclosed, full motion, controlled from external computers (usually an instructor/check airmen sitting in the back of the sim with you) look up the sims at FlightSafety or CAE/SimuFlight.
I was expecting the whole inside to be covered with screens, that would've been awesome
They could have atleast used a vr it would be cheaper and possibly better depending on what screens
Projector would be cool like an imax theater
@@harrymeanwell1462 yeh
Yeah the interior is disappointing 🤣😆LOL all that for 3 24" screens, total fail.
@@josh_taylor1034 VR is a bad idea because you want those buttons and levers to be physical. And you need naked eyes to see them.
Looks nice, only a little cheap on the screens..
Yeah.
Also they could use X-Plane instead of P3D and make it look graphically better, or at least download some graphics addon for P3D
Sasino _ yeah
Yeah. I'd have 360 degrees of monitors for a better feeling. Or just integrate VR headsets and then it doesn't matter on the interior.
yeah, that really kills it for me. should be a large non-bezzle setup
I was thinking the same thing, spend all that time and money building that simulator and then you are going to cheap out on the screens? Makes no sense.
Why, oh why would you go to all that expense and kit it our with what looks like three 24" monitors? (Shakes head)
There are the runway coord's for MFS2020: 44°40'25.7"S 167°55'29.2"E
14:11 i'm thinking 3 curved ultrawide (LG 38" Ultrawide - 38UC99-W) monitors would do the trick better than 5x 16:9 because of bezels
personally I like my setup of 1x 38" ultra-wide and 2x 27" 16:9. They all have the same vertical height but doesn't feel super overwhelming (I have tried 3x ultra-wide, it felt a bit claustrophobic). Truly amazing that FS2020 almost gives you this without a motion base.
It looks AMAZING but it makes you feel the rumble of the engines and all the good stuff.

think that is because there is another screen in front of them and the angle.

The concept is fun, but they should have designed if for interchangeable cockpits. Why would one want to spend all their time flying a Cessna?
Because it is a training aircraft and basic to fly. You have to remember that these are for people learning to fly.

Does the Ovo have motion on the lift axis (up and down) as well? You'll really feel that when flying through turbulence or on bumpy landings.

High -end simulators cannot accurately simulate G. That is why they are not cleared to 'assess' pilot performance in unusual attitude simulations.

Uhh.. so, like every other professional simulator? Fully enclosed, full motion, controlled from external computers (usually an instructor/check airmen sitting in the back of the sim with you) look up the sims at FlightSafety or CAE/SimuFlight.
How much would that unit set you back?
