- Apologies for the shaky cam work and audio quality in this one- I was trying out a new microphone, as well as a cheap head mounted camera.
This video shows the procedures to start up my home made A-10C Warthog Cockpit, and a quick overview of the programs needed to run it.
All my plans, panel files, and 3D printing .stls are free for download at thewarthogproj...

Computer's like: 10fps
I'd think by the time you can afford all of this it's been 10 years at least since you got a place of your own
@Milo Yossarian What makes you think I was all serious? Have a coffee. It's on me.
Because anyone with this kind of setup is DEFINITELY still living with their mom. Respect to Moms!
Matthew Britton and also this is pretty cheap like $50k US. But for the screen and projectors (which he did in a video) are about $300-$400 all together but the screen is $95 US
The most impressive thing about this video? He printed out the manual.
It’s a checklist which commercial and fighter pilots have to check off so they know if it works properly and civilian pilots don’t have a checklist but most pilots that care for them self either prints one does one or just checks and yeah in this vid it is a little bit of a manual at the end of the list
YT ChiclePickles it’s required by the faa to have a checklist even if your a civilian pilot
@y je its called a preflight check
it's not the manual
a warthogs interiors are a lot bigger than i imagined. it even has projectors and walls!

You sir, deserve a toast.
Spares no expense on sim setup, buys knockoff GoPro. Love it.
Haha I've spared plenty of expense!
hahaha love it - I have a basic stick and rudder pedals, decent graphics card and a 4k monitor, but I also have a hero 7 black. TWP is the complete opposite - got a full blown cockpit with all the trimmings and a knockoff go pro :)
$30 buck soundcard from ebay????? LMHAO!!! But great video..
Craig Euler dont knock the $30 ebay cards, theyre actially quite respectable for what you pay :-)

"Guys! It's happening again!"

Could you imagine spending all that time designing, building and implementing this setup, only to discover you don't like flying the A10.
Yes because the A10 is boring.
The A-10 Is so boring because all of y'all have the attention span and memory of a fish. Maybe if you stopped doing needless air to air combat and supported the troops on the ground, war would be a whole lot easier.
Or that there is something called VR... 😅
@@phreak761 i am so sorry but fvck you bro we love the a10
Im surprised he’s not sick of it.
And here I felt like a little pilot playing Elite with my Occulus and doing that cute start checklist for immersion, but you sim enthusiasts are clearly on another plane of existence. Awesome setup!
and here i feel like a little pilot playing with my stick and keyboard 😂
Another *PLANE* of existence?

I do this same goddamn thing playing VTOL VR. I flick all the switches and make up military-sounding jargon as I do it, just because it feels cool and if games aren't meant for being fun and feeling cool then I don't game =D

you should let a A10 pilot fly in your sim :P
I'd love to see that in a video.
Great idea !
I volunteer. Although I flew the A model.
I think he is an A10 pilot if you listen.
An A10 pilot may not be qualified to fly this flight sim.

Neveaaaaarrrrrr.
Holy Jesus dude....this is incredible and I spent 20 years in the Corps as an aircraft maintenance officer. No experience in an A10 but seen plenty of cockpits.
You should buy a Fighter Pilot Helmet and Oxygen Mask from ebay to complete the feeling of being a pilot :D
Wouldn't he get high from all this extra oxygen?
Is there a VR 3-D pilot's helmet for this?
@@RayleighJones Hahahaha idk... :D
@@elfhighmage8240 What do you mean? I don't quite get what you are trying to say.
@@a.sandev I'm asking if there is a Virtual Reality helmet made specifically for this game? I heard real pilots complain that they can't see with their own eyes compared to just looking with a screen. Does this help understand?
How have I not come across this sim before? That is truly incredible. Best home build I’ve ever seen!
He did not fit wings and wheels to his room. What a noob.
Just kidding. Best setup ever. Is the cockpit specific to 1 aircraft?
Yeah, specific to the A-10
Nah his house is full of cockpits
yes but it also works for other aircrafts, maybe not all the buttons but the joystick and the throttle thing should still work
I know that because I have the joystick the pedals and the throttle right here
Ronak Dhakan omg bro did you not realize that his channle name is literally what the plane is?
Wonderful piece of work, truly inspiring ... I am guessing but, commercial pilots would *kill* to have a high fidelity simulator, like this, to practice on!

Coincidence also in my end. I had put laundry in earlier and i forgot to check if the washing machine was done. Your washing machine's beep is exactly the same as mine. I'm guessing yours is a Bosch too. So, when I heard it in your video I paused it and went to pick my clothes up and hang them to dry. Thank you for the unintentional reminder. Now, with the job done, I can finally enjoy your video! lol
Mine was running, also a Bosch, I checked it but it wasn't done yet 🤣
Bloody unbelievable job . Well done mate. I would love to have something like what you have made . Cheers
there should an option for dcs 'disable interior rendering' so that full scale cockpit builders would still see the cockpit windows, but not the interior, as without the plane being rendered, you can't look at the rear view mirrors mounted on the window sills
I suppose he could build a replica of the cockpit cage and put monitors where the mirrors are and set up autohotkeys scripts or something to display the mirrors on those monitors.
"whats the point of having a sim if you dont crash it every now and then" exactly!
What an awesome setup! All you need is a 3 DOF motion platform to shake things up a bit, of course a 6 DOF would be nice but impractical due to the size you'd need to support your cockpit. But man, you have set THE standard for the A-10 flying enthusiast!! Again, nicely done and keep up the great job.
Thanks! Motion would be great but I don't have the space for it! Once the rest of the screen goes in I'll have about 30cm of space left in my room!
There were a couple times that I forgot you were in a sim and not in a real aircraft. This is really well done. My dad was an A-10 engine mechanic for years in the air force. I'm going to show him this video.
This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen! New sub!
What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas! You sir are a legend! I hope you enjoy flying every minute!
really nice setup. Hope to see more videos soon. As a grunt on the ground the A10 is a god send for us. Best of luck.
Mate, your A10 'pit is fantastic! My recently departed grandfather was an aeronautical engineer who worked on the A10C, and I only wish he could see the time and skill (not to mention $$) put into your recreation. Kudos sir!
Probably the best simpit I've seen in a whole while. Congrats!
I'm getting old and don't remember the last time I got goose bumps. I got goose bumps watching your video. Nothing short of phenomenal. I have the same laser cutter you do and found this video through your panel making video.
Great setup! This gave me and idea, instead of the 2 screen proyectors, it would be great if you could use a vr headset with a camera on it. Let me explain what i thought.
You need a green chroma screen around the real cockpit, the cockpit would still be the same as this one, with all the functional keys and that. The VR set would show you the camera output, but replacing the green chroma with the ingame view, but that way you would still be able to see the real cockpit and your hands! I'm not saying that it is possible, and for sure it would be very hard to implement that into the game, but it would be a great idea doesn't it?
I've been following the evolution of these home simulators for a long time, going back to the era where you needed multiple CRTs and PCs. What is possible today is downright awe inspiring. This simulator is jaw dropping in its polish, relative simplicity in terms of user experience, and ability to modify and improve. Beautifully done!
Who "thumbs down" a video like this. Jealousy I'm guessing. This is amazing. It would be incredible to have in your house.
Dude, I'm so fkng amazed! That's the coolest thing I've ever seen. Congratulations for building that project. You're so dedicated and patient.
That is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen
Yup! That is the coolest I have seen. Did not know that was even possible.. However, watching you rock your head back and forth back and forth wasn't much fun. Couldn't see what your hands were doing. I could only understand about half of what you said but loved every minute of it. Thanks for letting us watch!
Wow, and here I was so excited when I purchased my Wart Hog joy stick :( Great video!!!
I am super impressed. This vid just came up as recommended for me - my interests include aviation and computers. To a novice like me to home simulators this is a work of art.
god damn that is amazing dude. congrats. coming from a huge flight sim fan and a DCS guy
that is the most utterly cool Cockpit/sim/mock-up I have ever seen... awesome build
You lucky bastard! I want one like that but for the upcoming F16 on dcs !
the amount of effort dedication is stunning. not mentioning the money that went into it of course. respect. love it
Ah man this is great ! Just love it and i salute you for making such a great simulator ....

Where's the hole in the roof when you need to eject?
This is wayyy beyond cool! A wet dream of my childhood for sure. Wish i had the money for that! WAYYY COOL!
my head was goin back and forth with the screen, so realistic looking :)
I've been in one true simulator and that was a Stinger simulator. I doubt there's any civi game or sim software and really a big ol plastic Wii Stinger wouldn't be interesting OR fun. I'm realizing just how complicated that sim had to be. I guess it would involve VR goggles now but at the time, 1988 maybe 89, it was a true sim in a dome room. I was 19 or 20 and Stinger wasn't my MOS anyway. They knew, however, we would be in the same area as the dedicated Stinger crews and I guess they wanted us to be able to use the thing if all the Stinger guys were in the latrine when a HIND or a MIG popped into our AO. It truly was a weapon for insurgents, as anyone could use it if they could get it onto their shoulder. This Warthog sim you've built is amazing. It combines so many things I'm interested in, not the least of which is an almost religious reverence that came to me during Desert Storm. It felt like the A10s were a guardian angel and those of us on the ground were a little safer when they were above us. I'm fully aware how corny that sounds, but I'd bet 'security' is an ultra rare feeling on any battlefield.
The whole time he's taxiing all I'm saying to myself is "centerline... Centerline... GET BACK ON CENTERLINE" lol
Came here to type this.... love the sim and this setup. But.... ...CENTERLINE!
Mee too lol
How you don't have more subscribers s beyond me. Your cockpit setup is amazing. I wish I could build some instruments like yours. Keep the high quality vids up you'll have a LOT of subs in no time
I'm not sure if anyone has commented this but the reason that you're not getting DCS fullscreen when it first fires up is most likely the butt kicker sound program, when you minimize it you take 'focus' away from DCS starting and it doesn't start fullscreen. If you just leave the sound program alone (as long as it's not set to stay on top) DCS should pop up over it and full screen.
Ahh i never though of that. Ill give it a shot! Cheers!
Wow, a 5 year project! Now that's dedication, quite a bit of money, and loads of time invested, very well done sir! Your pics on the DCS site are amazing as well.

You sir, are GENIUS!
You need to produce these... whether as a kit or a custom-built system (hmmm... put in small trailer/caravan rather than a room for mobility!).
I was fortunate to get a few hours in the USAF F-15 flight simulator years back... AND YOURS IS BETTER!
The wrap-around screen and simulated cockpit exceed the million dollar gov't version!
Seriously bro, you need to put these on the market; whether as a custom-built item or a kit.
Fan-freakin-tastic!
So...when you die...do you have to flick all of the switches back to their starting positions or...??
The next room over has a Dustoff sim with an ED.

@@divizy7867 that isn't what happens!!??
@ "Console Peasents" I guess spending 300 bucks on a PS4 makes you a peasent because you didn't wanna cough up 500-700 or more for a decent gaming computer that you'll constantly have to update and throw money into for upgraded graphic cards and processors over time as games become more demanding.
Please, get the fuck out of the PC Gaming community if you're gonna be a toxic douche bag that doesn't respect all gaming platforms. Because we genuinely don't want you.

This may be the first video I've ever watched, that the fact it had a single dislike made me lose faith in humanity a bit....INSANE setup mate.
Looks so real.. nice job! I wonder what the U.S. military spent for each of their A-10 simulators?
@Youric Hunt I have some limited insight in the costs for simulators due to my job and it is way, way more. Let's say the sim for a basic training aircraft costs around 8 million. Though that also includes professional support etc. for some time. These things get crazy expensive, but then again, it uses all the real switches and panels and the flight models are more advanced and it also includes a terminal for an instructor etc.
Idk why but I am so happy to see someone's set up like this exist. 😀
I should get a f14 like this.
Awesome work mate, love your simpit and your attention to detail! Very well done video too, I like that you refer to the checklist although you surely know every switch inside-out - very professional!
Amazing. I love the A-10 and thought I was being a spendthrift for getting the Warthog HOTAS. I would love to try your setup. Wow.. just wow
When they add the UH-60.... then maybe I'll try and do something like this....

Imagine connecting that rig to a virtual reality headset and actually doing it all in VR.
VTOL VR has really nice planes, and a recently released A-10 Warthog mod aircraft
@@nightraven836 Erm, or just DCS, it'd be more accuraet that way. Having a rig with all the controls in the right place, connected to the in-game aircraft. You’ve done all these systems!!! You are a complete and fulfilled man!!!! 😀
Do you have maps of Martin State Airport in Maryland? That is where the 175th Wing's A-10s are. It would be cool to see you fly over nearby Baltimore City in the simulator.

Bonzer achievement mate! When I was an IT person you could get a little program that would record a series of mouse and keyboard operations, and do 'em again when asked. That would give you a one key startup... IF I remember it's name, I'll pop back and edit this.

I'll be sticking to VR thought, as I'm flying a few different planes regularly.
And get much more immersion, than this setup, with curved screen. (My opinion)
I think I found my retirement project. Just 10 more years!
I'm pretty sure all ya gotta do is put your key in the ignition, pump the throttle a few times, pull out the choke, make sure the clutch is pressed in and your transmission is in neutral, lock the parking brake. Crank the engine over until it coughs once or twice, put it on 1/2 choke and start it up. Let the engine warm up a few minutes and push the choke back in.

Excellent re-creation. Not the cockpit I remember,( I maintained A-10s at Myrtle Beach, Suwon Korea and Nellis in the late 80s). The only thing you still need to do to complete the full experience is put your checklist in a Blue Flight Crew Checklist Binder.
