Wow, finally an unbiased and honest review of the Supra. I’ve had my '21' for a year now as a weekend car but could easily drive it everyday. Sports cars are never perfect cars, there will always be compromises. They are not made to be big and luxurious and hold 2 weeks of luggage. Its the perfect size for me. I’m older and it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. I can get an honest 35 mpg on the freeway, then drive like a bat out of hell. As you pointed out, this car would never exist had there not been a collaboration. The BMW engine is epic. At only 5000 units per year there will always be limited money in development to have everything you want, it just doesn’t make sense from a business aspect. That being said, I cringe every time I think of the Committee that approved 9 fake vents on a sports car, that at least half could have easily been functional, when some everyday cars have real ones. And we’re 4 model years into it, and they haven’t addressed the wind buffeting, ugly steering wheel that should be flat bottomed and thicker, the way too dim infotainment screen, the outdated infotainment, and maybe change the shifter knob to a real sports car look. How about updating the front and rear ends? If they want to compete with the new Z they have to do better. That being said, I love it, there is nothing on the market right now in this price range that I’d rather have. But the new Z has me wondering….

I have a 2022 - 3.0 premium (with red interior - Turbulence gray) and love it. The air buffering Is my my bigges concern. Above 40-50mph, you can't drive with window down. Ohh. And my iPhone fly out from the wireless charger every by single accelaration :D
I had a BMW Z4 coupe e86 before. So I have no problem with the 99% BMW part. (and laughing at the JDM funboys, who never even owned a Supra, or any good car)

AMD, After joint ventures with Subaru and BMW, I suspect that many, many Toyota sports car fans are breathing a sigh of relief that the genuine Toyota GR Corolla is on the way to this market. Hopefully there will be more 'in-house' performance models coming in the future. As far as reliability is concerned, let's give the Supra another few years before we reach a final conclusion. 😁

Just to say that I have only just watched the video because it is you doing it and i love your videos and your honesty, integrity and expert engineering knowledge . At my age of 58 sporty does not interest me and even if I could afford the Supra which I cannot it would be too loud and too hard for me in terms of the ride quality. In a BMW the big old school 'radio preset' keys can be programmed to just about anything. It will be like that in the Supra as well. For instance you can program a key for a radio station but also to start the navigation system to navigate back home. Can also be used for all kind of vehicle settings and more.

I had a 1988 MK3 turbo 5spd from 1990 to 2000, loved that car! Lost the head gasket at about 160k miles (overheated pretty badly). I was still on the original clutch even! (throw out bearing was getting noisy). Was a very reliable car, only issues I ever really had was starter replacement (what a bitch it is to do one), and clutch master cylinder. That was mostly my only failures until I lost the engine (that was mostly my fault, should had done the head gasket/studs upgrade at 90 or 100k... Replaced it in 2000 with a '99 Camry which I am still driving now at 335k miles, runs and drives perfect, only have done normal preventative maintenance items mostly! No major or odd failures, a few suspension / front end parts due to the high miles, 3 radiators, both cooling fan motors 3 or 4 valve cover gasket replacements, overhauled the throttle body / IAC, 2x all done myself in my driveway, very easy car to work on... I would never own a BMW product or design, or almost any European car really (besides maybe a old 126 chassis Mercedes tank, especially if it has the straight 6 gas, over the V8)... But I would really like to have another MK3 turbo stick, especially if it has a MK4 engine swap done well in it...

That’s not just a radio preset, that’s everything preset. You can create shortcuts to any menus. Like set tire pressure display as preset 3, or rear view camera as preset 4, or audio tune settings in preset 5, or device select for wirless car play on preset 6, along with radio preset.
You can see why they made it so big, it’s crazy powerful.

    1) reving the car got stuck at mid rpm and didn't wanna climb down , shift gears or change to park if I'd press the gas the rpms would climb and keep on climbing and not go lower it only happen to me once so far
    2) ac would show it was on and working but didn't blow air or anything not even hot air even if I'd turn off the car and turn it back on. it started working after about 7-10mins mind you I got it in June of last year and i just hit 10,000 miles

Hello AMD. As per your advice for coolant replacement on my Corolla, I found the drain on the driver side as you said. When I measured the amount that came out, only about 3.5 quarts of the 6.9 actually drained out. Is that good enough for the replacement? If not what should I do, since I don't want to open a can of worms removing things.
In a side note I am impressed with how Toyota brilliantly designed the radiator drain and made a hole through the front core support as well as in the splash shield for easy drainage

I owned a 2020 Supra. The hud would toggle on and off randomly on it's own even though the settings still showed it was off, the alarm would go off continuously if the key fob battery was low, and at approximately 19,000 miles the driver side door controls stopped working. The mirrors would not unfold and you couldn't roll up or down the windows. These issues, plus a few others, happened more than once. Three different Toyota dealerships could not verify the issue even though I had video, or would tell me everything worked even though I would drive away from the dealership with the problems still an issue. It was a great car mechanically that was plagued by BMW problems. The car is worth it if the issues were fixed.

    Great thorough review AMD !
This is what I’m debating when I retire in 5 years (end of 2026). It will be my 2nd car since I have a 2002 ES300 with “only” 168k miles and I plan on keeping it for 10+ years.
In the spring of 2027 I’ll need to make a decision on either a one owner well Maintained Supra 3.0 Premium or a 2015-17 Lexus RCF or a 2019-20 Lexus RC 350 F-Sport RWD. I won’t be tracking either one, which makes me want to lean towards the 350 FSport RWD.
Yes the RC 350 FSport RWD isn’t in the same category as the RCF and the Supra but Lexus IS the KING of reliability and I don’t really need all the power of the RCF nor the 3.0 premium
Now hearing of the battery issues and the parking brake release issue and now more reasons of doubt. BMW’s over 5
Years old and/or 50k miles are empty money pits. Maybe too soon to say if these Supras will also be empty $ pits but By the time I’m ready in 5 years I’ll have found out for sure

It's not a Supra to me, it essentially followed the Chrysler Crossfire recipe, which was a Mercedes SLK320 with a different body built at a German subcontractor. The Supra is a BMW Z4 with a different body built at a Austrian subcontractor. Same mechanicals and even the interior, Toyota did the exterior, "tuned" the suspension, and that's about it. I understand the reasoning for it, it wouldn't have existed otherwise, but I wished they at least used their own engine. I think their sales numbers would be much higher if there was more Supra in this "Supra".

Most people bought r35's used, if they can afford one at all, and if they can find a clean example of one. Granted, the r35 has not changed much for more than a decade since being released.
