IKR! There's a literal fanfiction taking place right after the episode based on a theory (possibly made by the author) where the Everfree Forest's magic came from ponies that got the disease.
Zecora is in a life or dead situation, but she continues to rhyme, either she is magically forced to do it, or she is just very commitmented to the bit
Never liked this episode because it always bothered me how NO ONE apart from Fluttershy gave a single damn that Zecora was dying. You'd think all the girls would be willing to help? And AppleBloom?? And why didn't Fluttershy and Twilight consult Discord or Celestia? None of this would've been an issue if the disease wasn't deadly so I have no idea why the writers decided to make it chronic
Feels incredibly out of character for them to just seemingly stop caring about Zecora in this episode given all she's done for them and the fact that she was.. y'know, dying. It feels like everyone only started caring when it was affecting them. I think it's an interesting episode, but I hate how the writing portrays some of the characters - many of whom are meant to be Zecora's friends, yet they spend most of the time just.. not caring about her apart from Fluttershy.
@@clockwork3494 And a few episodes after this Rarity and Pinkie Pie go to Zecora to get a potion. It makes them seem like terrible people who only care about her when they need something from her. Such a weird episode, the premise was pretty interesting, I like the idea of swamp fever disease, but the way it was handled was just bad. Honestly lots of episodes from the later seasons had the characters act incredibly OOC to me
And that would actually makes sense like imagine Zecora mentions the healer go to twilight both talk to Celestia who knows the healer is real but lack information as she might only see her once or twice and discord not appearing to just give instructions and not helping (cause why would he? It's better if they found the natural cure)
It is one of the darkest episodes imo. There is a graveyard of dead ponies in plain sight right at the beginning of the episode. Dead, transformed against their will. Come to think of it, MLP has a history of terminal diseases under the veil, like cutie-pox or love poison.
What’s going on with g5 right now? I saw the movie but didn’t know if that was it or if there are episodes somewhere. If there are episodes, where are they watchable?
2:56 bonus sin: Those definitely non-carriage tires imply that ponies do have the automotive technology. But since actual cars are used/seen extremely rarely, how come these tires make all the way to this old distant village to be used as pier bumpers? Add *ponies car industry* to The List Of Plotlines Unresolved By Hasbro
There was a time when horse-drawn carts and carriages switched over to automotive tires in places where cars were still prohibitively expensive. Tires could also be used on tractors, which although we never see them in the show, might make some sense in-universe.
Here's a sin for you: The episode delivers a lesson against pushing one's self too hard, but a.) Fluttershy had no idea how long Zecora had to live, and b.) Swamp Fever was revealed to be highly contagious. Fluttershy had a perfectly logical reason to forge ahead as quickly as possible.
I like how most of the issues I had with this episode were acknowledged in this video. Fluttershy not getting the moss herself when she can fly over the water, Twilight not being able to save everyone despite her own intelligence and detective skills, Apple Bloom's absence which is sadly likely to make Marks and Recreation somehow stronger despite how badly it had to portray the CMC for the story to work, it's a real mess.
Sin: When Mage Meadowbrook was first mentioned back in The Cutie Map she was described as an eastern unicorn. Here she's shown as a southern Earth pony.
You're right, I never realized! While I'm sure it's just a reused name, it's interesting to think about if it was the same pony. Like she was referenced as having enchanted items and being an Eastern healing unicorn, but we could potentially just chalk that up to history being wrong. Like if her legend was passed down through oral tradition, that means she was remembered as being so impressive at healing that she must have been a unicorn, and her potions etc were so powerful they MUST have been enchanted. And idk maybe she's from the Southeast? No fun fake lore for that part otherwise lol.
To this day "A Health of Information" is considered to be one of the most dark episodes of the entire FIM series. I mean who'd ever have thought that there was a disease in Equestria that could literally turn ponies into trees. In fact that often reminds of the Beast from "Over The Garden Wall" since he had the power to turn people into trees. And seeing Zecora being the sick one for a change was just sad, But I believe that the writers probably thought that since Zecora is always the one helping creatures with her potions and what not, It was time for somepony to help heal Zecora for a change. And hearing Zecora not rhyme for the first time was just nuts. It was also interesting to learn about another Equestrian legend, IE Mage Meadowbrook. Her story about becoming a healer is one of my favorites! And it was good setup for another one of the Pillars. Anyway, I was happy that Fluttershy and Twilight were able to get the flash bee honey and cure Zecora in the end.
As I recall it being remarked about in Bronies React, yeah, Twilight doesn't take the case of Zecora being sick with a rare sickness like this seriously, but will pull an all-nighter for info on a spell cast by Starswirl and his friends. As cute as it was for her to have a baking competition with Spike, her priorities just weren't straight here. I enjoyed the episode nonetheless.
We can try to make the argument that Discord can only undo his own magic. He can manipulate reality, sure; but if petrifing him in stone makes all his chaos magic go away, that implies none of his magic is permanent.
It's crazy how Twilight doesn't consider this as a life or death situation. Totally Legit Recap was right, it's like Twilight completely missed the part where you'd die.
In fairness, if a pony is coughing, that makes it possible that it's infectious. From at least what I know from diseases, coughing is how a lot of diseases are contagious. I might be wrong though
Oh my goodness. I cannot believe that I didn't see the connection between Fluttershy saying she'd like to be a tree and the fact she almost turned into one in this episode.
Dear LittleshyFiM, I got to respect how you've been going at this to this day; I say it because I have started the show recently and occasionally watching these, and after I watched _TSSCS6k_ I started watching each Cinemare Sins alongside each episode. This happens to be the first episode I saw after I outran this series, and it's still just as great. As of now I've finished _The Beginning of the End._
...if I had watched 1:06 any earlier I wouldn't have recognised it all, how timely. I literally watched 34 eps from July 1st to August 1st huh? Looks like I might finish the show just in time for my birthday on the 23rd.
Wait if Meadowbrook didn't reveal the method of collecting the honey, that means that she knew she was the only one who knew how to collect it and therefore the only pony who knew how to cure this awful disease. It's a little understandable, while still messed up, that she didn't reveal her secret to maintain her profits. However, if she knew trapping the Pony of Shadows would trap her as well, she wouldn't leave some instructions for the generations after her?
@@Selkie_17 But you see the problem right? They knew that trapping the Pony of Shadows would also trap them so it wasn't a shock when it happened. So she would have likely had the opportunity but probably forgot
I like to think there's another strain of Swamp Fever that merely causes extraordinary apathy, stupidity, or similar in its victims instead of turning them to trees. This is why Twilight cared more about the muffins, why Cattail seemed so dim (he did live in the swamp after all), and possibly why Fluttershy didn't contact Discord. I actually think Swamp Fever was a very interesting concept that deserved a two parter (S7's premiere wasn't one; they do owe us one) where we see Ponyville's response to such a dangerous epidemic but perhaps that's too distressing for a kid's show.

No, but seriously, why was Twilight so nonchalant about Zecora dying? I mean, they don’t explicitly say she’s dying (kids show an all) but there’s no mention of reversing the tree curse, so if Zecora isn’t cured, she’ll be a tree forever Maybe Twilight just didn’t care much for Zecora (darn zebra racist)
Pretty sure Twilight was the one who reminded everyone about their racist remarks against Zecora when she was first introduced. So it's definitely not about racism but I'm pretty sure Twilight have always had this habit of not taking things seriously that take priority. So I guess in her head it didn't seem like that big of a deal or you know plot convenience, they wanted to make Twilight a dumb dumb here so Fluttershy could have her moment to shine 💀
I think we got a retroactive sin! I knew something didn't feel right. It was the first of the month, but I just couldn't shake the feeling something was missing. Then I remembered it was time for CinimareSins! The hive hasn't moved because nothing wants to mess with those bees. So long as the hive has proper honey stores and flowers to produce honey, then the hive will last indefinitely so long as new queens and workers are being born.
0:38 No joke, I rewound the episode a lot of times to the beginning listening really carefully, and couldn't find a single dialog where she even mentioned it was pretty lol. 😭
3:55 A weird comment, but I wanted to know what the name of the pink mare (thrird from the right) was, and apparently she's considered to be Red Gala, despite being a unicorn, having a different mane style and eye color and her cutie mark not being visible. Huh.

I'd mainly quit the show by this point but checked in for this one as I heard good things about how insanely dark they went. Glad I did cause, yeah, wow that's genuinely great body horror. I couldn't get over though just how pony supremicist Twilight Sparkle was this how episode. She's borderline going, well sucks for her, but she's just a zebra so lol who cares. Not like she's a proper pony after all.
Is this where the comics got the idea of Zecora idolising Meadowbrook from?
When it comes out on demand to the wild robot!
0:03 oh my god that fluttershy sounds so sassy
