I'm surprised there was no sin for "Flawless." The song was good, but there's just one issue I have with it. Each of the Mane 6 has a bit where they sing about their flaws, but when it gets to Twilight, she basically just says "See, we're ALL flawed" instead of talking about a single flaw she has. This episode wants us to believe that all the Mane 6, even Twilight, has imperfections, but never bothers to talk about hers
That’s probably because the song had to be written to follow the time constraint and Twilight already had her solo at the start opening the song and it would be unfair to give her a second solo when the other ponies only get one each. While it is a little weird, she still outright says she is flawed.
She literally says "my mistakes are all written in ink". As in, they are there throughout the show. That was her line on her mistakes. She didn't directly describe any, but everyone knows what she means. Funnily enough, I'm surprised a sin wasn't removed for how great the song and visuals were.

I think this episode would've been better if it'd shown both sides to the Brony fandom, instead of just 'all the adults are to blame, and the little girls are only TRUE fans.' Like, maybe in the midst of being overwhelmed by all the negativitity and overzealousness, the mane six found a group of ponies who made something constructive out of their love for the journal. Rarity inspires somepony to take up sewing, Applejack inspires somepony to start a garden, etcetera etcetera. Hell, the show ITSELF is essentialy fanwork. They could've had a real nice message about the pros and cons of what it means to be a fan of something, how not everybody will treat content or the creator with respect, but those who do could go on to create something even greater.
I joined in 2012 right before S3 and left right before S5 premeiered in 2015. I returned to watching the show on 1/1/24 and fell back in love with this fandom. There will always be regret I hold by not being involved for eight years. But getting back into the show has ignited so much joy and magic into my life. Bronies are still a thing. MLPForums buzz, EQD still gets so many posts, the MLP subreddit had so much content. The fandom is nowhere as big now as it was in the 2010-2015 days. But knowing bronies and the fandom still exists in 2024 makes me truly believe it'll never fizzle out, much like the Star Trek fandom. I remember watching your "Everything Wrong With" back in 2013. Seeing you still so active a decade later is just amazing. Thank you for all of these videos and memories. Brohoof to all. (\
One rather minor thing i disliked with this episode was that everyone gets to know that Daring Do actually exists since Rainbow met her and wrote about her in the journal, but in episode 21 of season 9 entitled "Daring Doubt" no one seems to know that Daring exists anymore.
I don’t understand why Rarity got so much in-universe hate in this episode. None of her episodes had her doing something _that_ horrible. If anything, she should've accidentally started a hate campaign against that pink unicorn who copied her designs.
Suri is actually an earth pony, not a unicorn, but I agree. It's really unsatisfying how Suri copied Rarity's designs and got away with it with no consequences later
This episode is the definition of insecurity. I remember seeing an AMA that M.A. Larson did on Reddit a while back where he made a point of excluding this episode when he listed the episodes he wrote. And years ago, he literally apologized for this episode during a Q&A panel. Which makes sense, this episode is the most bottom of the barrel the show ever got. Also, he said in the Reddit thread that his original idea was outlined but wasn't scripted, so there's a fun fact for you
Back when this episode first came out, I think it went over my head since I wasn't too involved in fandom discourse, I was just kind of laughing at some of the things happening, but then when I saw ACRacebest's reaction vid with a few other fans, and he pointed out it was a dig at the fandom, oh man, it got so much better since I wasn't one of the people being called out. Maybe Applejack and Pinkie Pie being related, but this episode is probably a lot like the 100th episode. More one for the fandom and probably won't age well unless you were there. Oh, and there should have been a sin removal for the song Flawless because that's a banger.
I know it's a bit away, but thought I'd give some ideas for when you cover "To Change a Changeling" Intro Quote: Starlight: "I know things didn't go well when we first met..." [Quote from TFS DBZ Abridged during the fight with Freiza, muffled from outside the bag] Krillin: "I'm an optimist." Piccolo: "You're an idiot." Pharinx: "Wow, so you're both losers. Stay away from me or I'll do to you what I did to the vines." [Insert joke about the Vine app no longer being in service.]

best episode. blind bronies will always hate this episode because of how their own thoughts get perfectly mirrored and they realize how stupid it sounds. the "criticism" they keep asking for are trying to make the show perfect. but here's the thing- it's not SUPPOSED to be perfect. it's supposed to have flaws and the characters are supposed to have some traits that need to have some work on. but of course, grown old men will always whine like the show is supposed to be written for them. it's for kids to help cope with some flaws they might have and become a great friend. but no, the grown men have to cry about fictional ponies having imperfect personalities. how dare equestria reflect the real world. the way it ended is also perfect- the creators KNEW that the bronies wouldn't listen to them and would continue hating. thus, furthering the imperfection. it's not about making it nice and tidy, it's about making it real.
Here’s another sin: at about 5:04 of the episode, Twilight gives a journal to a colt at a book stand. Twilight walks away, and the colt appears to be flipping through the book with his horn (it’s glowing), however the book is still glowing the color of twilights magic.
I love this episode so im happy have a sins video on it, glad to be here so early! I think people usually hate when their favorite episode has a sins video but I think it's fun. " you mearly adopted the cancel culture, Rarity was BORN IN IT MOLDED BY IT,"
The song is pretty good, but otherwise this episode is just awful. If "Slice of Life" was a love letter to the fandom "Fame and Misfortune" was hate mail.
One sin you forgot to mention was at the very end, when Twilight decided to just ignore the angry mob of ponies outside her castle. That's pretty much equivalent to a superhero just letting the whole world get destroyed without even bothering to stop the villain who is destroying it.
3:28 thinking about it... Dragons are winged, so they can walk on clouds, but... do wings comes with such abilities, therefore until you don't have it you can't walk on clouds? Shouldn't it be something a soon-to-be (naturally) winged creature should already have?
No, dragons can't walk on clouds. Smolder, who has wings, was one of the students that needed a cloud walking spell in order to walk on a cloud in the season 9 premiere (I believe that's the right season). So..
3:45 right here the Crusaders say they are gonna make a Cutie Mark Summer Camp which foreshadows a later episode but in that later episode, they just come up with this NEW idea, even though they got the idea to start it from this episode so…..HUH? 😵💫
6:12 Going to the bathroom is actually just politely saying to someone that they have to go. Edit: Unless we see an actual bathroom, That means her comment still stands
Yeah, but this episode had my personal favorite-and _(arguably)_ objectively best-song in the entire series, so I'm scratching fifty sins off for that. It's to the point where TH-cam automatically includes it... and its instrumental version... into any "My Mix" playlist it makes. I come back to it that often.
I will never understand this episode. "This show is for little girls not adults so we're going to waste our resources and energy on creating an entire episode that only adults will understand and will confuse little girls" ???? What was the thought process here? Why did they freak out so much because people wrote words on the internet, if you hate criticism so much just ignore it like a professional showrunner should
Those words on the internet can actually harm the show if not the whole franchise. Especially when it comes to viewers, infact this is how a lot of shows end up getting cancelled because of people complaining causing others to not watch the show. This isn't a hard concept to understand.
@@lunakingsley.7247 If words on the internet can harm an extremely popular and beloved show and franchise that made millions in cash then it just means the show was already trash. If the majority of people agree with certain criticisms about the writing that just means that there's most likely something wrong with the writing. People were right to complain about the quality dip in the later seasons and this episode only proved those people right. And again, I thought the target was little girls? Little girls aren't exactly going on Twitter and 4chan to read criticism of the show are they? If your main audience who aren't even AWARE of the criticism on the internet stops watching your show you know something's up
Well, I always thought the message for kids was discussion of fandom discourse and its effect on the subjects of it, to help kids understand that things they say online can hurt real people with feelings or help kids who have a following thanks to TH-cam, social media, TikTok understand fandom dynamics. And for adults it's just some fun venting by writers towards certain parts of the fandom that need to look in the mirror more.
Props for saying "Golden Oak" instead of "Golden Oaks." Even the derpibooru tag is still wrong. But then there's that sin you missed... ...Starlight's entire role in this episode was obviously written for Spike. Sin Tally: 48.
I didn’t realize how hated this episode was, it’s one of my favorites! I get really annoyed when people in fandoms fight about very small things and make them out as so much more than they are. Though I’ve definitely been guilty of this at times, it’s fun to see those people get roasted.
I really was disappointed that they never showed Starlight “dealing with” those ponies. Starlight is my favorite character *because* she never fully eradicated her dark side, which allows her to take things a step further than the more “pure” heroes. At least we got to see her defend Fluttershy.
6:09 I don’t want to be this person, but the whole show is translated from a language called Ponish, so this is probably just a translation that was edited to make it more appropriate for children. (She more likely originally said “I can’t even poop/pee without someone telling me how cool I am!” Which just makes it worse)
From what I remember of the song in this episode, it seemed to be trying to say that the characters' flaws were what made them work... Yeah, it just came off as Hasbro going "Oh, uh... the characters are SUPPOSED to be like that! They wouldn't work otherwise! You can't complain about these out of character moments because we can't remove them even though they don't work!" Mhm, nothing like refusing to address overlooked issues by claiming they were intentional...
In defense of the spells that seem like they could be useful in other situations but aren’t used in them, there likely are in universe explanations on why they couldn’t be used Perhaps the species changing spell only worked for Breezies, it couldn’t be used to transform into species other than Breezies The duplication spell might have only been usable on books, and it did appear that it required the map in order to duplicate the book. Since the map wasn’t in the Crystal Empire, they couldn’t have cloned the book there. (I may be wrong that it required the map to be used. The way the spell looked made it appear that the map’s magic was being used to duplicate it, but that might have just been for the initial few copies)
Этот эпизод весьма тонко стебёт типичных фанатов, которые угадываются в читателях Книги. А мораль в конце серии очень глубока! А ещё песня в серии просто протрясающая!
Also wait…. I just realized Spike isn’t in this episode like AT ALL not even referenced or cameoed in any way and I’m pretty sure he’s had an entry or two in that journal
@@Mirthful_Panda Not officially. I assume it's because the original writer (M.A. Larson) wrote the script with Spike, and when the new writing staff dusted off his old script, they may have been told by Hasbro to make Starlight more prominent because they wanted to market that character. That's usually how decisions are made under a company.
Due to me being new to the fandom (joined back in July of last year), this episode, while I like it, also confuses me. Not in terms of plot or anything, but, it confuses me because every time I watch it I'm like "What was even the point of the episode?" I can't seem to find the answer. I always feel like something was missing in regards to the episode, but I can't exactly pinpoint what it is. I call this episode a "half baked enigma". MA Larson didn't deserve to be treated like crap from Hasbro and DHX (now Wildbrain) over his vision of what he wanted to write for this episode. I do find this episode funny, but sometimes, i feel bad for laughing while watching the episode. The song "Flawless" is a banger though.
As a longtime brony, at the time and today, I STILL don't understand the "point" of this episode. Every attempt at some meaning is undermined or contradicted in some way.
I will never forgive DHX for royaly screwing M.A. Larson over for this poor excuse of an episode - when that wasn't his intention. If that doesn't scream writer's espionage, then I don't know what does...
so glad I’m not the only one who HATES that the quote shouldn’t have been in the book to begin with because it’s two seasons too early. Also the Daring Do is real bit, “it’s supposed to be a secret” that you wrote in a published book, rainbow dash!

This episode may suck, but Flawless is a genuine slap. That song is one of my favorite MLP songs.
Also, he said in the Reddit thread that his original idea was outlined but wasn't scripted, so there's a fun fact for you
It did give us a great song though, IMO.
Oh, and there should have been a sin removal for the song Flawless because that's a banger.
it only makes sense to assume that the unicorn at 4:00 didnt use magic at first because twilight threw the book at him
I'd take at least two sins off for flawless being one of the best songs
I know it's a bit away, but thought I'd give some ideas for when you cover "To Change a Changeling"
Intro Quote:
Starlight: "I know things didn't go well when we first met..."
Pharinx: "I put you in a bag, I thought it went great."
Punishment: Hitting Yourself
Extra Jokes:
Trixie: Repeating "Teleportation Spell, Go."
Starlight: "Why do you keep trying that?"
[Quote from TFS DBZ Abridged during the fight with Freiza, muffled from outside the bag]
Krillin: "I'm an optimist."
Piccolo: "You're an idiot."
Pharinx: "Wow, so you're both losers. Stay away from me or I'll do to you what I did to the vines."
[Insert joke about the Vine app no longer being in service.]
0:04
I can’t stop replaying
Rarity: *STRESS COUTURE.*
6:15 but wasn't there a wooden toilet in "The last Roundup" episode?
It was an outhouse. There's also one on Sweet Apple Acres land in The Perfect Pear.
Im shocked they didn't touch on the shipping and "art"

Ah yes, the reverse slice of life episode.
I honestly found the epi funny! They did honestly nail what fandoms can be like not just the mlp one but any divided fandom
I would say encountering 15 rudes peoples in one day is kind of unusual.
You are still doing this? Let's go!
best episode. blind bronies will always hate this episode because of how their own thoughts get perfectly mirrored and they realize how stupid it sounds. the "criticism" they keep asking for are trying to make the show perfect. but here's the thing- it's not SUPPOSED to be perfect. it's supposed to have flaws and the characters are supposed to have some traits that need to have some work on. but of course, grown old men will always whine like the show is supposed to be written for them. it's for kids to help cope with some flaws they might have and become a great friend. but no, the grown men have to cry about fictional ponies having imperfect personalities. how dare equestria reflect the real world. the way it ended is also perfect- the creators KNEW that the bronies wouldn't listen to them and would continue hating. thus, furthering the imperfection. it's not about making it nice and tidy, it's about making it real.
" you mearly adopted the cancel culture, Rarity was BORN IN IT MOLDED BY IT,"
i love all your cinemare sins videos so much!! i get so excited whenever u post!
The fact that the episode ends without solving the issue is just further proof that we don’t have to accept this episode as cannon, cuz it’s not-
OMG ITS THE FIRST OF THE MONTH!! me and my sister are so excited to watch the video
Ive been waiting for this video for the past year or two💀💀💀
“Applejack liking Rarity is still more canon than Appledash”
Why would you say something so controversial yet so brave?
That final sin perfectly sums up the biggest overall issue with this episode.
Everything Slice of Life was, this was not. The pandas are no more. They've been taken out back and shot in the head by Fame and Misfortune.
The song is pretty good, but otherwise this episode is just awful. If "Slice of Life" was a love letter to the fandom "Fame and Misfortune" was hate mail.
its crazy you guys i still making these! i watched these when i was 6!!!!
So..
@@diminie_chimket oh right forgot about that episode
3:45 right here the Crusaders say they are gonna make a Cutie Mark Summer Camp which foreshadows a later episode but in that later episode, they just come up with this NEW idea, even though they got the idea to start it from this episode so…..HUH? 😵💫
I love this episode because of the song flawless. That song is good and it is the best.
6:12 Going to the bathroom is actually just politely saying to someone that they have to go.
Edit: Unless we see an actual bathroom, That means her comment still stands
Yes finally I’ve been waiting for you to post this
Yeah, but this episode had my personal favorite-and _(arguably)_ objectively best-song in the entire series, so I'm scratching fifty sins off for that.
It's to the point where TH-cam automatically includes it... and its instrumental version... into any "My Mix" playlist it makes. I come back to it that often.
I will never understand this episode.
"This show is for little girls not adults so we're going to waste our resources and energy on creating an entire episode that only adults will understand and will confuse little girls"
???? What was the thought process here? Why did they freak out so much because people wrote words on the internet, if you hate criticism so much just ignore it like a professional showrunner should
I think it was the show runners reflected how they felt into the show in order to cope.
I’m sure it’s a lot more complicated than that 😅
Those words on the internet can actually harm the show if not the whole franchise.
7:38 legit made me laugh out loud
Props for saying "Golden Oak" instead of "Golden Oaks." Even the derpibooru tag is still wrong.
But then there's that sin you missed...
...Starlight's entire role in this episode was obviously written for Spike. Sin Tally: 48.
I didn’t realize how hated this episode was, it’s one of my favorites! I get really annoyed when people in fandoms fight about very small things and make them out as so much more than they are. Though I’ve definitely been guilty of this at times, it’s fun to see those people get roasted.
Amen
I really was disappointed that they never showed Starlight “dealing with” those ponies. Starlight is my favorite character *because* she never fully eradicated her dark side, which allows her to take things a step further than the more “pure” heroes. At least we got to see her defend Fluttershy.
0:55 LOL I haven’t seen your vids in awhile or MLP so when I herd this I just laughed like I forgot her nickname is “book horse”😂
This 8 minute video turned into 30 minutes for me over that hoof lore.
4:24 this always bothered me SO much. The fact that rainbow dash leaked daring do's existence is never mentioned or even given any thought ever again!
This episode is just one big middle finger to the fandom, which is hilarious to me.
6:09 I don’t want to be this person, but the whole show is translated from a language called Ponish, so this is probably just a translation that was edited to make it more appropriate for children. (She more likely originally said “I can’t even poop/pee without someone telling me how cool I am!” Which just makes it worse)
Fun fact: the time between season 4 & 7 are atleast months up to a couple years apart
From what I remember of the song in this episode, it seemed to be trying to say that the characters' flaws were what made them work... Yeah, it just came off as Hasbro going "Oh, uh... the characters are SUPPOSED to be like that! They wouldn't work otherwise! You can't complain about these out of character moments because we can't remove them even though they don't work!"
Mhm, nothing like refusing to address overlooked issues by claiming they were intentional...
Awesome job. Keep up the good work LittleShyFiM. Have a wonderful day.
That last edit had me laughing so hard dude 😂
Tiktrot?
That deserved a Patrick BOO!
0:42 Which turns out to be actually better than a lot of season 8.
In defense of the spells that seem like they could be useful in other situations but aren’t used in them, there likely are in universe explanations on why they couldn’t be used
Perhaps the species changing spell only worked for Breezies, it couldn’t be used to transform into species other than Breezies
The duplication spell might have only been usable on books, and it did appear that it required the map in order to duplicate the book. Since the map wasn’t in the Crystal Empire, they couldn’t have cloned the book there. (I may be wrong that it required the map to be used. The way the spell looked made it appear that the map’s magic was being used to duplicate it, but that might have just been for the initial few copies)
I thought this episode was great. It showed me what a fandom is and how some fans are stuck in their ways and you can't change their minds
Starlight's role in this episode was originally Spike's.
@@tomspiegel5322 do you know why it was changed?
@@Mirthful_Panda Not officially. I assume it's because the original writer (M.A. Larson) wrote the script with Spike, and when the new writing staff dusted off his old script, they may have been told by Hasbro to make Starlight more prominent because they wanted to market that character. That's usually how decisions are made under a company.
@@tomspiegel5322 ah I see
Due to me being new to the fandom (joined back in July of last year), this episode, while I like it, also confuses me.
@@LittleshyFiM Huh, never knew you felt the same way.
I will never forgive DHX for royaly screwing M.A. Larson over for this poor excuse of an episode - when that wasn't his intention.
If that doesn't scream writer's espionage, then I don't know what does...
This is clearly a middle finger to the older fans
Which is understandable
so glad I’m not the only one who HATES that the quote shouldn’t have been in the book to begin with because it’s two seasons too early. Also the Daring Do is real bit, “it’s supposed to be a secret” that you wrote in a published book, rainbow dash!
How dare that elder pony disrespect Princess Twilight like that!
He's right! Especially that M. A. Larson was done dirty by revising the script without permission! It's corporate greed I tell ya!
"Slice of Life" and "Fame and Misfortune" are the light side and the dark side of brony currency.
