    Gotta admit when I clicked on the video I expected something silly and nitpicky. But your gripes are all legitimate and I’m surprised they’re happening. I’ve been on an S22 Plus since launch and don’t have any of these issues. I wonder if it’s just a matter of size. The S22 Plus has been dang near perfect for me.

      Thanks so much for your comment! That's good to hear about the S22 Plus. It makes sense that battery life and heat would be better in a larger device.

    I know its not an S series phone, but I replaced my S10e with the Galaxy A52s. It has a MicroSD card and earphone jack with the same RAM and memory as my S10e (8GB RAM and 256 GB memory). It has 5G and 120Mhz refresh and a 4500 mAh battery. Performance wise very similar to my old S10e but with bigger battery, bigger screen and better refresh rate and 5g. Although the camera on the S10e is better. The A52s was the closest I could get to an S10e with improvements that I wanted. Larger battery, higher refresh rate, 5g. SD card and headphone jack.

      I second A series. You get older but well optimized chipset, solid camera which has been tested in previous devices and honestly decent bang for the buck. I replaced my s7 a while back with A51 and still love it. It has its quirks sure but with the price you expect that. Also just updated to android 13 so it's not very far behind. And when I need to replace it I will get A series again most likely.

    Totally agreed with your points explained. I regretted after having S22. It's feeling warm in my pocket at all times and the battery life is bad. Now, I stick back to my Samsung S10e (which is far more better and stable, no heat issue and battery life is normal). Please, do not ever go for Samsung S22!

    From someone who spends too much time on the internet watching other people review products that I won't be able to buy (at once), Pixel 7 excels in software, the Zenfone 9 seems very attractive (also has two cams), and if anything, the 8 Gen 2 might be more efficient than the 8+ Gen1 (that seems to be so good on the Zenfone) so you could see what that's like on the upcoming S23. Hope your next device is better!

    • @JohnScottB
      @JohnScottB  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment! I really like the Zenfone 9 other than no wireless charging. Fingers crossed the S23 excels where the S22 failed.

    I'm happy the s23 was able too fix theese issues (minus it choosing the wrong lenses for shots but that can be mitigated for camera assistant)

  • @furcom
    @furcom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Maybe your camera is defect? I don't have these issues with my S22's camera. You need some automations (with Bixby Routines) and system optimizations. I mostly get 5-6 hrs SOT and sometimes 6-7 hrs. My personal record was more than 9 hrs SOT. Btw, I'm charging my device up to 85% (limited with "Protect battery" function in Device Care), using dark mode & dark theme, 120 Hz adaptive on, AOD off, Adaptive brightness off and Power saving off. Most important thing is to put unused apps into deep sleep and less used apps into sleep in "Device care".

    Can't believe you're switching from the S22. I've always admired that phone, even though I don't have one lol. Pixel 7 sounds decent, judging from the review videos I've watched so far. Don't know what phone to recommend since I don't use those top flagship phones but I've always thought of getting a Z flip 4 if I ever get super rich hahaha
    Anyways, enjoyed your video.
    Keep it up 😄

    Strangely i don't have those problems with my 5 month old samsung s22, yeah, i have the exynos version, but overheating is nearly no problem on my device, the camera works just fine, no stuttering in video and pictures are taken in the same second i shoot it. Even the batterylife isn't bad, i did some optimisations and now i easily can get 5+ hours of screen on and 10 hours of screen off time, with these numbers i can easily get throug a whole day!

      @JohnScottB  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's good news. I did some research before making this video and there are plenty of people without these problems but there were enough that did have them that I considered it a fair video.

    I've been using Samsung phones since the S4,and shutter lag it's already getting very tiring.I am currently using the s22 plus and the battery is excellent and there is no heating,I almost took the iPhone 14 pro, but I'm glad I didn't, Samsung is a complete phone for me, but they still have a lot of work and finesse to polish.

  • @Chris-uu6dg

    Hi thanks for your informative video, one other major issue for me is that I bought the Samsung SSD T7 drive thinking I could use it on my Samsung S22 phone but it turned out the S22 is NOT compatible with any SSD drives only the Ultra is. What a joke how can a modern fairly recent Samsung phone not work with SSD drives? Apparently you can only use an OTG flash drive. I think I will look at other Brands next time.

    I have s22 from launch, the camera imo is mind blowingly good at times and mehh at times but overall I'm happy with it. Never had an issue with heating(maybe because I'm kinda a light user). And yes the battery is pretty bad even on the SD version. The s22 plus is a much better phone but I love the form factor but I'm ngl I do wish I stuck with my s10e :)

    • @JohnScottB
      @JohnScottB  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd love to try it but worried about mediocre camera and no wireless charging. No carriers have it so you pretty much have to buy it at full retail price which is a disadvantage of the likes of the major brands (Apple, Samsung and Google) that have some great incentives through carriers.

    can you check out the xperia 10 iv thats what i think im gonna switch to from my s10 it had a card slot and a jack
    other phones ive been thinking of are:
    zflip/fold 4
    any of the newest in galaxy A line with a jack and sdcard
    I wouldn't get a pixel cuz the experience I've had with them is that the software is just unbelievably buggy for a flagship phone

  • @BenAsselmeierReal
    @BenAsselmeierReal ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow hi hello, I have never seen a video from you before, and I just also ditched my S22 after getting it in April for the Pixel 7 - it literally arrived today - but even more specifically, I also used a Galaxy S10e for nearly three years before finding something else that checked all the boxes for me in the S22. Loved that phone and was getting worried that I'd have to use it forever because no one would release something I liked, but now my S22 feels like it's betraying me. How did I never get this video recommended in the last few weeks while I was looking for comparisons with the Pixel? Dropping a sub and after a few weeks of using my Pixel 7 I'll come back and watch the comparison video to see if I had any of the same impressions.
    Context on why I'm switching.. App lockups, notifications not working, going on for weeks since the Android 13 update. Some people say do a factory reset, to whom I do admit that yeah, there's a chance that could solve the problem... but I contracted COVID last week and over the last weekend have been working with my family through the passing of our grandmother. I'm not here to tell the whole sob story, but it's probably not difficult to understand that after missing very important messages in a situation like that, I was frustrated enough with Samsung that when I saw the 256GB model of the Pixel 7 down at $599 again I decided I'd had enough.
    As for the S22... I agree on the video stuttering and the slow shutter speed. I don't have any kids but one somewhat niche use case for me is taking photos and videos of roller coasters and amusement rides, which are often moving at really high speeds and very difficult to capture since you're really limited to the angles you can find from the ride's queue or other surrounding paths. I have noticed this issue in many clips on my Galaxy S22 and it often resulted in me not even bothering to try and take a video. I am hoping that the Pixel will be more consistent and reliable for me. Heat and battery life were never major issues for me with the S22, but I did not use that phone nearly as heavily as I did the S10e. On the one heavy use trip I did take earlier this year, the Galaxy S22 did last for most of each day I needed it - but I will also say that unless I'm using something that specifically requires me to turn it off or I'm near a charger, I almost always have power saving mode turned on during a trip. I really don't mind the drop in refresh rate and can still shoot photos and videos just fine for what I want.

    you its as if we have the same story, ive been telling people for some reason the Non Ultra version of Samsung phones battery life just sucks, and believe after a few months to over year it keeps getting worse and worse and worse....your Screen on time is almost exactly as mine...im getting 3h13m ...at this point phone feels like a scam....Im looking at the Asus Zenphone 9..it looks to be exactly what we want

    I think it's all down to the 8 gen 1 chip in this smaller phone with less room for cooling. My slightly older s20 could handle sustained load better before I broke the damn thing.

    I don't know about YOUR next phone, but mine will most likely be a Vivo X60 Pro plus. They're killing Samsung with the level of customization and the cameras on it are BEAST! If you're looking for a camera centric phone, get a Vivo X60 Pro plus because they have a gimble built in and crazy zoom distance! Oh and Zeiss made the camera lenses, so you get some of the clearest pictures you'll ever get from a smart phone.

    • @JohnScottB

      Definitely, and I still am - the thing holding me back is no wireless charging. May seem like a small thing, but once you go all in it's hard to go back. Although if it's battery life can actually last a full day without a top off, I'd be totally fine just plugging it in at night!

    ye the new snapdragon chips from sd 888 and onwards are trash af since samsung manufactured them they have worse power efficiency than a 3 year old chip and also produce so much heat that in games a 3 year old chip is way better
    the sd 8+ gen1 is slightly better while the dimensity 8100 just killed all of qualcomms chips ever made
