      That episode was followed by Tuvix and when she walks away. Her face. Damn. Just absolute horror and disgust at what she did followed by a resolute look that said "It had to be done" I just watched those 2 episodes for the first time last week. Cemented Janeway as my Captain.

      As close as ST got to legit psych horror episodes in those days, but that Janeway moment made me more afraid of her than the clown, and it was well-deserved with how Mulgrew delivered the lines. Absolutely amazing.

    Don't forget that she...
    - Died 17 times and still made admiral.
    - Called death a coward and told him to go back to hell. And he did.
    - Made fear afraid.
    - Went full Klingon on a Borg.
    - Blew Q off like an amorous drunk in a bar.
    - Had 30 Maquis eating out of her hand in a year. Sisko had to poison a planet to stop one.

    • @LeoTheDarkAngel

      Also she actually went full Klingon in that double-episode with the Hirogen.
      An I'm not sure if it was death itself she called a coward, wasn't it implied it's more like a deom/devil that tries to lure you into it's hell?

    "Bride of Chaotica." Janeway needed to save her ship from a threat related to Tom Paris's '50s movie serial themed hologram. In my case, ST:V'ger has three fundamental flaws that make it my least favorite ST series to date.
      1. After the first season, they basically ignored the resupply problems of being stranded in the Delta Quadrant with no possibility of spare parts or major repair facilities. Even in the first season, it was mainly used to provide for some jokes about Neelix's cooking.
      2. There should have been far more tension and conflict between the Maquis and regular Star Trek personnel but Roddenberry's insistence on no conflict between the good guys, caused that to be resolved way too quickly.
      3. Most egregiously, V'ger way overused the time travel stories to let them tell stories in which the ship and most of the crew got destroyed, but everything was resolved for the best by the end of the episode. V'ger as a whole, and probably Janeway herself deserved to become the reference point of the Department of Temporal Investigations, replacing Kirk as the prime example of the contamination of the timeline once V'ger returned to the Alpha Quadrant. (The "Year of Hell" two-parter is the only decent time travel story of the series, and that was largely because it served as a cautionary warning against messing with time to fix problems.)

I mean, it would be more logical and you are right.. but i would then rather not have them. It reminds me of the stargate universe. It had that kind of too and i hated it so much. I cared not for their personal conflicts, i wanted to watch sci fi and discovering stuff. The story setting was interesting but it kinda ruined it for me.

      @@Kevlord22 The thing is, if they weren't going to make use of main character conflict, they could have had just an all Starfleet (or all Maquis) crew. Voyager's problems had nothing to do with Kate Mulgrew or her character. The issue was that its showrunners were...
      1. So sloppy, they couldn't even explain what happened to that Borg baby.
      2. So inconsistent, they went from "can't even replicate a cup of joe" to "we blew up a Delta Flyer? No problem, we'll just build a new one overnight".
      3. So mean-spirited, they deliberately refused to promote a deserving character, just to humiliate the actor playing him.

    If I ever was forced, or bribed properly, to watch a single seven year Star Trek series from start to finish, I would pick Voyager over TNG or Deep Space Nine. Part of the reason is Janeway. It is so interesting to me how she combines her protective/nurturing maternal instinct with military discipline while keeping the crew together on their way back to Earth. Janeway rocks! As a Janeway fan, I am PROUD to see this video! I grew up with a sexist dad who HATED Voyager! He thought Janeway being a female captain was a BIG MISTAKE! He even said that people who watch Star Trek: Voyager were people who "need to take medication". I once asked him what his favorite Star Trek captain is. He answered me and said "But I never liked Janeway. Females can't be captains!" I grew up, watched every episode of Star Trek: Voyager and believed he was wrong! DEAD wrong! Janeway is a perfect example of how any captain of any "gender" SHOULD be! As well as being a good role model for females EVERYWHERE!
    Thank you once again for making this video! I'm now a subscriber! :D

      Tuvix. . . . 🤔

    • @LeoTheDarkAngel
      @LeoTheDarkAngel 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wouldn't say she always had a "solid moral compass".
      She has a solid idea of what she thinks is right and wrong, but she can also be incredibly stubborn and insist on what she thinks is right (in a situation where she is emotionally involved).
      Tuvix may be one example but there's also one from this video, where she tortures the member of another captain's crew because she thinks the captain did bad things. She is idealistic but sometimes oversteps "morally right" boundaries to do the right thing.
      However, this is exactly why I like her so much. She definitely wants to do the morally right thing but sometimes gets caught up in her righteous anger and does something that is questionable. I think that makes her human and, moreso, relatable.
      Metaphorically speaking, she is the kind of person to punch someone in the face when she sees them bullying a third party. Does violence solve the bullying? No. Is violence the morally right choice here? Most likely not (depends on your moral compass I guess). Does it _feel_ right? YES.

    • @joelellis7035
      @joelellis7035 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LeoTheDarkAngel It's a quibble, but I will say that violence does solve the bullying. Bullies tend to be cowards in their own right hence why they use force on people they don't expect to fight back. The moment that person does fight back, bullies tend to lose interest.

    • @LeoTheDarkAngel
      @LeoTheDarkAngel 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joelellis7035 I get what you are saying, though, in my example it wasn't the bullied person who fought back and besides that, even if it was the bullied person, the bully would most likely just look for another victim, since their internal conflict was not resolved simply by punching them. There may be cases where they will refrain from doing it again if they get punched often enough, however, this would be a case of "ruling by fear" which is not long-term-oriented, nor does it align with Starfleet morales I'd say. (which is what this was orignally about :D )

    It might be interesting to look into what Star Fleet learned from Voyager's experience. So, I have been a Trek fan most of my life, and for the most part my family ignored it. When Voyager hit the airwaves, however, THAT got my mom's attention. And funny enough I give my mom credit, she started watching the other shows and the movies with me. While she was lost half the time due to "technobable" she understood why I had truly gotten attached to practically every character. Voyager however, is the only show she watched from start, to finish, even if I was not home watching. Janeway had some great beast mode moments, and a fight against the likes of her, AND Sisko working together?..... Two people that are the embodiment of "F*** around and find out"..... Win or lose, they will make sure everyone they go against regret messing with them. And I love it.
