    I definitely agree with the thing you said about being treated differently when overweight. My BMI was literally like a smidge over 25 (having been underweight most of my post grad life), and the difference in people’s actions; things like people didn’t hold doors open for me, I was never offered food or drink at people’s houses, I was spoken to differently, like it was wild. Now I’m a healthy weight I get offered the snacks all the time!

      I find this so interesting, I've heard so many people say this. It's hard for me to imagine. I've been quite overweight (bouncing between 230 to 260 lbs) my entire adult life but I don't think that I am being treated that much differently. If I lost 100 lbs, would the way I'm treated really change? I've seen some folks say that maybe the change that people experience has more to do with the change in their confidence and how they present themselves. I've been told I'm quite confident (I come from a fat and VERY confident mother who takes sh*t from no one). Could this be why I don't really feel like I'm treated that much differently? I happily make small-talk with strangers when I'm out, I make friends easily, men have full conversations with me at the bar even when I'm out with my hot skinny friends, I hold the door open for others and have doors opened for me. So what gives? Am I delusional, maybe? hahahah

    Your honesty and the way you describe that you are trying to explain it in a responsible way is so empowering and I think will help a lot of viewers. We forget that we are all on our own personal journey and we are learning every day.
    I am starting my first NHS placement on Monday as a dietitian and it's so relatable that even as health professionals we are all learning how to manage our own diet, phisical health an mental health (even more so as stressed students).
    We are all human, all learning, discovering ourselves every day and your discovering you, that's priceless.
    Hats off to you Faye for your honesty and transparency, and thank you for sharing your beautiful story.

    As a loyal subscriber since the very beginning and a fellow female med student approaching final years. I do appreciate the amount of bravery and honesty of this video. And everyone has their own experience and reasoning.
    There is already a struggle for females in medicine to handle one day having a family and balancing your career. But tbh it was very very demotivating for me hear your thoughts about leaving medicine for your future family or future partner.
    Although I don’t think you would ever want for this or want to imply this.
    I can’t help think this could deter future females wanting to go into medicine as it could reinforce this repetitive message that you can’t be a doctor and a wife or you can’t be a doctor and a good mother.
    I wanted to leave a comment for the future female doctors out there. Although I am just at the beginning of this journey. I have met such inspiring female doctors who have made it possible to be a doctor and a good partner, to be a doctor and a good mother.

    • @DrFayeBate
      @DrFayeBate  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m sorry if this is how it came across. I didn’t clarify that I wouldn’t be leaving medicine because I’m a woman. Many male and female doctors are leaving medicine at the moment to earn more for their families and be able to give them more of their time and emotional energy.
      My concerns have nothing to do with being a women and everything to do with an underfunded and undervalued system.

Loving the content and I've been in a huge down/slump period lately. Hearing you conquer everything makes me really hopeful. Do you think you'd ever consider working internationally as a doctor? I find that a lot of doctors in the UK struggle with the way the NHS treats them and fall out of love with medicine, but then move somewhere like Australia and have the love come back. The stats of UK junior doctors moving to Australia are actually insane 😅
    I also really appreciate your honesty and vulnerability especially when talking about medicine. It can be controversial to people outside of the system to critique, but all of us in it know exactly where you're coming from.
    I have ADHD and binge eating issues too (so I clearly relate to you a lot lol) and I found that once I started my meds it also decreased me seeking out foods to binge on for that instant gratification, as well as suppressing my appetite. I'm sorry you get comments about your weight, but I love how candidly you talk about your experiences. It makes the world of difference for your viewers in a similar boat because people act like we don't exist in medicine.

    You won't have any time for You-tube when you have officially become a doctor. TH-cam and any other platform of social media should be only a hobby of yours to pass the time when having nothing important to do.. Such things you have seen online as project management are like drums which sounds impressively loud, but actually are empty, or have nothing inside. When you get older, you will understand what i have just said

      I have to disagree, creative outlets are integral for maintaining good mental health and also making sure you have an identity outside of your career. If Faye enjoys TH-cam and in creating content and videos, then she should be encouraged to keep doing it ❤ it is amazing how much free time you gain (even working as an intern/PGY1) once you aren't studying for exams 😂
