TIP 97: One of the first thing you should do when getting a old K1200LT.... but a screw in the mirror.. Lost mine on the freeway one night... just like you said... jumped off the bike to the ground doing 70mph..... went back picked it up and its on my bike still.. with new glass and new screw to hold it on....

Kirk, I watch and re watch your awesome videos until I get enough courage to take on the fix. So far I have completed the "fat back" fix for the top case an oil change and this mirror fix. My bike is a 2005 with only 7K miles on it. I recently acquired it and have been muddling my way through replacing all the fluids and then finally the brakes. My experience with the mirror was that I used a 13/64 bit for the initial hole, removed the mirror and finished drilling. Tapped the hole with a 1/4 20 tap. Then reinstalled the mirror with 1/4 20 SS button heads and ss washers from Homedepot. Probably could have gotten by with 3/4" in length. My mirrors are now safe and secure. My right hand mirror has some damage from the previous owner dropping the bike in the garage. I don't suppose you know where I can find a replacement? Thanks again for your awesome videos. I ordered you poster on ebay.

Hi from Australia Kirk :) Thanks for posting an updated video! I really enjoy all your DIYs and reviews and have found them really helpful as I do all my own maintenance on my 2003 K1200GT that I bought new and my red K1 (only has 25,00km - 15,000 miles!). Can I ask a quick question, despite regular fluid changes I have a binding front calliper on my GT (with semi-integral braking) so planning to change all hoses to braided lines and try to rebuild front calliper. I'm fine with flushing the fluid but my question is if I introduce air into the integral / semi-integral system by changing the hoses is bleeding still just a case of following your fluid flushing techniques? I assume normal bleeding processes apply but have never introduced air to the semi-integral system to find out! Thanks again and looking forward to your next video! Cheers, Nick

I just did this modification. Very easy to do. I used 2 M6 by 1.0 by 25mm allen bolts and 2 1/4" washers. The mirrors are Rock Solid. The only problem will be if the bike tips over or the mirrors hit something.

I love the idea of bolting the mirrors on, but am wondering if a plastic bolt would be the best of both worlds , keeping the mirror tight on the bike during riding , yet allowing reduced sheer force if the mirror needs to come loose as intended by the manufacturer

Has to be a better and cleaner looking solution than Duct Tape, which is how my Right side one is currently held on to my bike? A little job for tomorrow.

What size screws do you use for the mirrors?

Have you had the 05 k1200s mirrors apart. Mine are loose and move when I reach a certain speed. Looks like they are not serviceable. BMW spent so much time developing these, but didn't leave a tension adjustment method.
