I respect Matty's take, but I'm still planning on diving in. I expected 'BL3 mechanics in a whimsical fantasy/D&D-esque world' -- it looks exactly like what we're getting here. Frankly, I doubt most BL fans believe this will reinvent the wheel. I suspect most folks (myself included) simply want a full-length, fleshed-out, modernized version of "Assault On Dragon Keep". If that's what I get, I'll consider it $60 well-spent.
@@TFrostyTNetwork yeah Matty seems like hes just tired of Borderlands at this point and thought it would be a whole different kind of game. I just dont understand how you could think that from the previews though lol
*Spoiler Warning for BL3 and Assault On Dragon Keep* I guess even wanting the same thing might entail different perspectives. I too would love a full length game of AoDK, I love AoDK, it deals with very heavy subjects like how Tina deals with the loss of Roland, and how the crew deals with that as well. Torgue's appearance was also brought in for not only good written humor, but also a commentary on real world gate keeping of geekiness. Those are aspects of the DLC I was absolutely hoping for more of in Wonderlands, but from what I can tell, they fail to achieve that on a writing front. One shouldn't be considered a "not a true fan" when they want to see a franchise better themselves, than to rehash well established, and now considered boring mechanics of a plain loot and shoot. And it's true, you can be tired of a game when it fails to innovate, but if the mindless loot and shoot in the Bunkers and Badasses fantasy setting is all you're looking for, then have fun with Wonderlands!
...and talking about "not having melee combos" as a major flaw in this kind of looter shooter completely misses the point. D&D skew is just another joke, without even a wish to make it a "classic" RPG of any kind. I get some people are hating BL, but expecting it to become a "Baldur's-Souls shooter" is ridiculous. I also don't understand people playing shooters for the "story"?! There are many shooters literally without any story which got 9/10. A bit of turning the blind eye on that point in those cases I guess... ;)
Amen, BioShock 2 was a gem and a genuine improvement on the first but was doomed to hatred out of the untouchable love for the earlier entry. God what a brilliant game.
I'm honestly not really looking for Gearbox to change up the Borderlands formula. I don't think the franchise needs "saving." I have never really played these games for the writing or the story. I just like the whacky guns and abilities, and all the Loot! This just looks like more of what I love from a Borderlands game. I'm still planning on picking up day one.
It honestly blows my mind that anyone genuinely cares about the narrative and story in this series to the level so many people vocally do. Folks trash BL3 constantly for its writing and dismiss the game as a whole as a result, and it just seems ludicrous to me because the game builds and improves on the gameplay to such an insane degree over the second, which is where all the real relevance of the series is to be found. BL1 nailed its tone and I do miss that, I admit. But from 2 onward, there's just no reason not to treat this series as a wholly gameplay first experience, because the story is just of so little contribution to your time spent in it. And when it comes to gameplay, Borderlands 3 gives the very best shooter experience I've ever had. I agree, there's no need for saving.
If I played video games for the story, I’d just save some money and watch the cutscenes on TH-cam. This Matty guy is one of those nerds who needs a “good story.” He probably cried watching the last Spider-Man
I think for me it’s not that it needs saving, but it needs to go somewhere. I played the first borderlands as a kid and loved it, first game I played through more than once. Then they hit us with borderlands 2. It was everything we wanted and more, but like you said it didn’t shy away from what it was good at. Borderlands 3 let us go to new planets and actually go into vaults. This just seems more like a downgrade than an upgrade. Granted I haven’t played the game or anything so I can’t say much but that’s just how I feel
It sounds like you think it’s at least a pretty decent game.. so I’m confused at how you were left “extremely disappointed”. It’s a spin off game, not borderlands 4 (like Pre Sequel was), so I wasn’t expecting any monumental changes. I do think it looks like they’ve made enough changes in gameplay/setting/customization to satisfy borderlands fans who’ve been wanting something new for a while.
He's disappointed because the additions to gameplay were missed opportunities and the writing was too immature. Being disappointed doesn't mean bad automatically
Completely agree with the take on humour. It's definitely a core component in Borderlands identity regardless of whether you care about it or not. The drop in writing quality was a big reason why Borderlands 3 never resonated with me as much as the previous two games, despite loving the improved gunplay and location diversity more. Wonderlands is something I see myself picking up in time, but there's just too many 'better' games, for the lack of a better word, that have come out or are coming out around this time frame. It's a shame because I'll eat up anything Borderlands, but I think 3 ended up burning me out a little harder then expected.
i personally never understood the reputation Borderlands 3 got... But then I didn't eat up anything borderlands related before that game so maybe that's why. I just feel Handsome Jack and "butt stallion" are A) A highly overrated villain with B) incredibly juvenile humor propping him up.
Wonderlands had the occasional moment. But... yeah. They played it so painfully safe... never took any chances, never told any dark jokes, always went with the most cliché and predictable option. It just didn't pull you in at all.
why tf are people STILL comparing this game to borderlands, it straight up has a different name and gb said it at first: THIS ISNT BORDERLANDS yet people immediately be like "anyways this game isn't as good as bl3 even tho we're 3 months in and bl3 is 3 years old im still gonna compare them"
@@john-bl4bo If THIS is annoying you Id hate to see your reactions to Starfield being compared to No Mans Sky /shrug People compare things. Deal with it lol. Its the same IP. If you wanted your argument to hold weight you should have told Gearbox to make a game set in a new universe with new characters with maybe even a new art style. Not make the same game add a gimmick or two to it and give it a new title.
@@john-bl4bo Did you react the same way when the pre-sequel released with low gravity jumping and people compared it to BL2 and found it underwhelming? Its a game that spawned out of a DLC from an actual bonafide "borderlands" game in your eyes. Not comparing it is just dumb.
There's something about the weapon's in borderlands 2 that just cant be topped. I really disliked the weapons in BL3 they felt repetitive and the legendaries were not unique enough and i kinda see this here as well
The problem with BL3 legendaries, IMO, is simply that there were a hundred of them, but only like 5 at a time were any good, depending on what that week's patch had buffed or nerfed. It felt like as soon as you got done kitting out your perfect build, everything got rebalanced again. BL2 didn't suffer anywhere near the same problem.
I found the same jakobs legendary everytime i fought the vault monster in the forgotten basilica. Like every fucking time he dropped the same exact shit no matter how many times i farmed him
I'll never get the hate for the pre-sequel, me and my friends had as much fun with it and the writing as we did bl2, and to a infinitely lesser extent bl3. This looks great to me sure ill get a few hundred hours out of it. I'm treating it as a side game anyways, a break from mainstream borderlands.
@@rvnhty yeah "too Australian and not funny" among other complaints. which is a shame...cause i cant unhear "good lookin mainframe" but people seem to like it more now that they hate 3 (kinda like how everyone suddenly loves the starwars prequels cause reasons)
presequel has 2nd best story behind borderlands 2 , and 2nd best game play behind after borderlands 3 , overall good game, id rather play presequel than an sjw mess like borderlands 3
I mean of course the writing seems childish, the whole world is controlled by a child… It’s not about them trying to be PC, Tina has always been like this.
Pre sequel was an interesting backstory for the events that happened on BL2 I wouldn’t call it bad in anyway in fact I was excited for Athena to team up with the old gang in BL3 but she never showed up.
The ideas behind the Pre-Sequel were decent, it's just that the execution was very botched. The overarching narrative worked, the individual areas and characters and jokes mostly did not.
I have to disagree. Wonderland just feels different for me than the other Borderlands games. I could not get into the previous ones. I’m in love and having a blast. Wishing I was home right now playing.
People who genuinely don't like The Presequel confuse me. I love the dry Aussie humor in it and the story is just more of Handsome Jack which other than General Knoxx is the best character Gearbox has ever struck lightning with. It was solid and only made even more solid by how awful 3's writing was. The worst part of TPS was the god awful late game level scaling that took forever and a day. Everything else was good IDGAF. I feel like it was just like BF Hardline. It was just the cool thing to hate on and thus it somehow cemented this reputation of being less than when it really, really, really isn't. /end rant
@@BrokeGuysEntertainmentTV I wouldn't say I "loved" it but it was incredibly solid and I think it's just got bullshitted on as a thing to hate. I went back to it about 7 months ago and after BL3 the writing and humor on TPS has only aged very well. Sure the gameplay is still that BL2 style and feels kinda old but people still defend BL2 despite all it's bullshit with their lives so I just truly don't get it. TPS's story ties in really fucking well with BL2. It has great characters and great builds for said characters. I honestly like TPS more than the first game by fucking miles. 2, TPS, 3 (mostly because of how goddamn good it feels to shoot stuff) and then the first game is last. I've never really got the fascination with the first game tbh Borderlands didn't really exist to me until 2 absolutely knocked it out of the park. But hey maybe I'm crazy. Don't know, don't care. That's just how I feel about it just like that's how Matty or you or anyone else does LOL
It had no way to farm specific legendaries which is a big deal, low gravity combat was a decent addition for like 1 hour then it wss just annoying, lack of general content for a full price tag, extremely boring classes, no endgame, basically a reskinned bl2 with less content
@@alienstales Not being able to farm does suck. Lack of content feels justified. I really like the classes and builds tho personally :/ You rarely even use the low gravity so honestly I don't feel like it was a big enough deal to warrant an opinion on negatively. End game in BL is really just farming for gear tho let's be honest so the not being able to farm is a big deal. The writing and story are fucking solid tho and that seemed like that was one of at least Matty's biggest complaints about this and I just don't get how people don't like the story of TPS if they like 2 O.o Hate and popular opinion are weird things. The game def wasn't as good as 2 but it's a far fucking cry from being this giant piece of shit people like to make it out to be IMHO.
Yeah this game sounds kinda perfect for me but I definitely get Mattys' points here. Put over 2k hrs in BL3, more of that with a Tiny Tina vibe sounds heaven sent. I'm 38 btw, I like the silly humor, really get burnt out if every other game is a grisly, dark, serious, mature narrative.
Yeah I don't think the game is for younger audience for definite I would say a certain type of audience not for everyone. I mean I'm in my 40s and I find it juvenile and silly so yeah certain types of people .
@@teddyholiday8038 I know I'm on the upper end of the bell curve but yes, 1,880 on Xbox and 235 on Steam. BL2 is about 1,900 with Xbox and Steam added up, my fav franchise of all time.
@@teddyholiday8038 I've put about 1k hours into it with playing all the characters to high level, different build options, main story, side content and DLC. But I'm the sort of person that has like 650 hours in call of duty vanguard that came out last November and 150 hours in Elden Ring.
I thought it was a really cool spin off, but I would have preferred it as a smaller, cheaper more condensed game with less repetition I thought lots of it’s stuff got same-y quick like environments, enemies and even guns and it’s gimmicks got old, but it’s story was really cool
This is a surprising review. Every other review I've seen what is the inverse of yours where they praised all the things you hated and vice versa. However I always respect your opinion and content.
I loved BL2. In my top 5 of all time. Pre-sequel was pretty good. 3 was average. After how great 2 was, I would rate 3 disappointing. This looks interesting, but I don’t see it being as fun as 2.
This isnt specifically related to your comment but still needs to be put out there: the only thing bl2 has over any other lands game is the story, and that's far from being the main focus in the series right now. I perfectly understand bl2 being a lot of people's favorite but bl3 not having the same level of story writing doesn't mean trhe entire game is "average". It's amazing and inifinitely better than bl2 gameplay/ build diversity wise, and in many more ways. It focuses on gameplay, like wonderlands, like it should, because that's clearly where these games can be developped the most.
I'm not big on Borderlands, but I love fantasy stuff, like castles, dragons and stuff, so I'm looking forward to this game, and it sad that its not Rated M, but never less, I'm intrigued enough to play it
As someone who has bought it. I'd say save your money. Maybe wait till they add some more stuff but the humour in it is pretty terrible and the endgame isn't very great.
@@oliversaunders2967 well it is a little girls imagination, so cringe humor and just cringe dialogue comes with the territory, I'm pretty sure Tiny Tina is like a 12 year old.
@@DeadUponAll She's 13 here I believe but Tina is not a normally kid anyway. She's a psychopath that makes explosives and kills people. But I'm not talking about the humour being childish anyway, I'm just saying the humour is straight up terrible.
I'm 40 yrs old and I haven't had such a blast in a game for a long time. I don't know where you keep hearing about poop jokes but I have over 40hrs already in it and not one joke like that. I feel you miss the point that it's not a borderland game... it's a Tiny tina game which she use as a way to cope with her real life trauma as a way to express her emotions and worries. You can see she is not yet an adult which make sense it's more reflecting the mind of a traumatized teenage. I love Tiny tina and getting to know her more just make me happy plus they really nailed the Dungeons & Dragons part.
As a huge DnD fan and player, I'm personally in love with this game so far and this feels like a huge improvement as a game over Borderlands 3 even if it's a spinoff.
Me too dude. An elven spellshot/graveborn...or maybe a graveborn/stabbomancer....AGGGGHHHHH...so many good classes for me to try out I'll probably be stuck in the character creation menu cause of this
i love dnd but this is just a scripted game, i get what you are saying. but it would have been nicer if it was more i don't know random like dnd is supposed to be.
For a different take: I find everything to the point that I had reached to be fitting of Tiny Tina. I was actually a little relieved to have more of the same looter shooter action I came to know and love. I love the re-skin of weapons and the names and references they have. It is so like tina to not be able to think that creatively and they took that and melded it into the weapon names and enemies. I have only played 4 hours worth at this point and am happy with my purchase as co-op was always a must. Lack of enemy types seems to be a huge issue right now, but remembering early borderlands and the countless numbers of skags, rakks and bandits plus the addition of eridians at the end making the bosses even more unique. At this point I am looking forward to whatever late game content they put in and hope for at least 1 raid boss. Because they kinda let me down at launch with BL3 not having one. To summarize: love the tina esque humor, however it only meets expectations not exceeds. Gameplay is the same I have always loved and the enemy types leave more to be desired.
At this point I kinda want BL2 remade with the animation, sounds, physics and some mechanics, guns, items and skills from BL3, but that’s silly Also a Tales from the Borderlands 2
@@promane557 the story WAS bad, from the villains, to the boring sidequests and the introduction of Ava. The plot in the base game didn't make me want to buy DLC.
100% agree with you, Matty. Many sequels feel like they're going backwards nowadays. They're suffocating themselves by making gameplay and stories simpler. Whether it's to appeal to younger audiences or not offend their investors, the games are suffering.
Its not borderlands its a dungeon crawler with borderlands references they didnt market it as borderlands its almost better in alot of ways then borderlands
Yep, the review is kinda hit or miss. This has been stated to be a different game from the beginning, I don’t understand why he’s holding on so hard to borderlands 2
I feel that’s a vibe that many people with big boy nostalgia feel I played all 3 main games in a row then this game, so far this game seems really solid and isn’t meant to be borderlands 1 or 2 😂 like tone being different in a spin off intended to add younger fans before 4 is done if the market exists.
Alot of people play BL like a sp shooter. To me the loot and builds you create are what mainstream media and review sites miss the mark on. I look at it like Diablo. Once you max level and start the end game is where these games shine.
@@wesmanpipes9430 yeah I feel like that’s the thing most never really realize with BL. The games really don’t start until you’re max level and customizing your build to your liking seeing how much busted you can make them and getting gear. Just like in Diablo.
@@80stallone technically there are classes- you can see them all on the official website- but those classes aren’t characters as well like in previous games. They’re just a skill tree.
I love how you can see the crazyness in Jack eyes but see how the outcome of the game and the betrayals he goes through eventually jusy melts him and makes him truely evil.
The issue with BL3 was, half of the story was just dropped on the cutting room floor because... It humanized Ava, and we can't do that to anyone any more if the new Starwars film is any indication of that.
My only complaint about this game is the difficulty. I have the game on the highest difficulty and it's a joke. The enemies don't scale well. Also the amount of enemies that around are very little especially with the random encounters in the overworld. There's just not enough chaos during fights.
So I got into the series at BL2. Honestly BL2 has the perfect balance of Absurdist, Dry, Dark comedy with serious moments that felt impactful. I played BL1 many years later and didn't find myself laughing quite as much, but wasn't bad by any means.
The first game is a good introduction to rhe universe and gameplay and its only on the general knoxx dlc that a story forms. The second game kicks everything into overdrive with handsome Jack one my favourite villains of all time.
Sadly for most of the jokes, in the first game, they were in the quest log and when you complete the quest. So most people would skip over it like I did my first run of the first game
I didn't like BL2 much. That said I never was that big into 1 either, but I played that one quite a bit more. Needless to say, I'm not a Borderlands fan lol
@@masterknife8423 I kind of agree. The story was really good in BL2 so a normal mode play through was quite enjoyable. TVHM though really limited playstyles though. If you didn't depend on the slag element you were gonna have a bad time. Thankfully the Pre Sequel and BL3 dropped Slag. I actually think BL2 has the worst gameplay in the series because of the over reliance on Slag on the harder difficulties.
Honestly I saw all the good reviews for it and bought it and felt a lot of cognitive dissonance while playing it because the game sucks. It just feels like someone gave the keys and content to the borderlands universe to new developers who don’t know what they’re doing. The writing is dumb as hell, and I just couldn’t care about the story. The guns didn’t FEEL like there was as much variety as in 2 and sometimes 3, the melee didn’t change enough of the formula to make it feel like anything new. I just don’t feel like this was made with the same love and staff as the borderlands games that were actually good. It feels like a Destiny clone.
Borderlands 1 to me is still the peak of the series. I can still jump in that game and have an absolute blast, and not get annoyed by the constant talking and cringey jokes. Borderlands 2 was the peak narratively, and the writing was great overall, but I have trouble playing through it because again, the constant talking, and the loot system was also not as rewarding as part 1. I also liked in Borderlands 1 how you didn't have to engage with the narrative much. Story was mostly given to you in dialogue boxes, and you could choose to ignore it, and continue shooting/looting. It reminded me a lot of MMOs, which I really loved about it. All games after force you into the story by forcing you to listen to people in non-skippable dialogue sections, and I am just not a fan of this design. It's a shame that the series hit it big, and went mainstream only after BL2, because I much preferred the overall structure and design of the first, and would have liked them to build more on that more gritty world, better loot system, and ways of telling the story.
I’ve put hundreds of hours into every borderlands, have every character min maxed. I’m not the type to ever call someone’s writing “bad”, but I think the borderlands team really need to consider where they want this series to go, because the 7 quintillion guns just isn’t enough anymore and I’m not gonna be picking this game up any time soon. I thought they really hit their stride with the Borderlands 3 DLCs after the Luke-warm base game story, but it feels like they’re falling back on old habits with this game and it’s really disappointing for some old borderlands players who have been playing since 1.
Honestly, what happened to the guys that wrote the Assault on dragon keep story, even though it wasn't perfect it's still better than anything we've had since.
@@DsgSleazy One of the big writers left after BL2 wrapped up, the same guy who originally voiced claptrap. If you believe the rumor it was Randy Pitchfords fault, something to do with not paying him for his voice acting.
Thank you for telling the truth even if it's unpopular. I'm a borderlands junkie. I really want to buy this but... Borderlands 3 was a major decline in the series especially story quality/cringe jokes/uninteresting characters Don't ask questions just CONSOOM product, then get excited for next products... People defending bad writing and cookie cutter, copy pasta game design by greedy triple A companies are just sad. And paying 70$ is insane
The most unforgivable misfire IMO is NO FLIPPING COMPANION EVOLUTIONS. I was so excited to see the shroom and wyverns evolved forms…. BUT NOPE. And just as egregious a misfire is NO LAND SHARK COMPANION!!! They even acknowledge how cool it would be to have one in the pookie side quest, but NOPE NO KAND SHARK COMPANION AND NO COMPANION EVOLUTIONS.
I don't play BL for the writing. I play it for the gameplay AND the writing. Ergo, everything post-BL2 is trash. The gameplay in BL3 would have been great if the story wasn't absolute hot garbage.
Honestly I've never really had a blast in any of these games outside of 2. Its a very different experience with friends. Its more fun but I'm also far less invested in anything thats going on. That one TellTale game was fantastic though. There IS a good world here if they can just get the silly humor right, which they have seemed to be struggling with for a while. I think a sale is about right. Thats what I'll do. Besides Elden Ring is more than enough for what time I have right now.
I keep saying Anthony Burch made Borderlands good he knew exactly how to mix dark humor seemliness into the story at the same time keeping the player entertained. Without him borderlands just feels so empty characters feel so one dimensional it also doesn't help that gearbox also cuts out important story bits for no reason at all they also butchered most of the borderlands 2 crew Maya gets killed off for avas stubbornness, Zero barley plays a roll in the game even though he's shown pretty early on, plus Salvador and Axton turn in straight as holes not even once helping the crimson raiders.
The big difference in writing is the whole game is from a childs perspective (tina), she wouldnt know the adult dark jokes the other games had, she is the DM and puts everything togther for the player . Its not that this game is aimed at kids but you have to appreciate that is essentially written by one
I'm expecting to love this but... the dont offend anyone other than a straight white English man is something most mainstream media has being doing for a few years. Age ratings are always at odds with the target audiences. A great example is Deadpool, a character who appeals most to people not old enough to actually see the movies...

Not the news I wanted to hear about my favorite game but its the news we need. Thanks Matty. I don't think we should be surprised that its not as fleshed out or just as good as BL2 was. BL2 has an indistinguishable charm about it that I don't think you can re-create. Makes me appreciate that game even more today. That said, I'm still going to play the hec out of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.
Yeah I appreciate Matty's view but after seeing 3 other reviews I can't see a problem tbh . I haven't pre ordered because I feel that I toxic culture but I will get it on Friday and even getting season pass for the 4 already announced DLC like I did for Borderlands 3.

Honestly if it was just the original borderlands and borderlands 2 I would be totally fine with that, but since borderlands 3 I have lost faith in the company and have found myself to become very bored and feel it's just repetitive now
After BL3 was released, my younger brother and I quickly decided we were done with the game. After the disappointment that BL3 was to me, I decided that I wouldn’t be buying anymore Gearbox games. This game was way, way too easy. Like, I'm not trying to flex. I'm not an outstanding player, I didn't min max, and to be honest I wasn't even really trying most of the time. But even on Intense difficulty I could sleepwalk my way through almost every fight.
i think a key point is the story is told by tina she never swore in bl2 so it makes sense that as the DM who voices all the characters it would follow that same line
Well.... It's hard to gloss over the fact that on your very first encounter with Tiny Tina, ever, she has you pick up her 2 ladies. Felicia Sexopants and Mushy Snugglebites. 2 giant bombs made to blow up a train and as a quote "BURN ALL THE BABIES!". Tiny Tina is a kid that grew up on the wastelands of Pandora turning into a psychopath. After being sold off to hyperion and seeing her parents get killed she is everything BUT your average teen. This is even enforced more in the Mr Torgue DLC for BL2 where in a side mission she has you track down her favorite celebrity Sully the Stabber. And she calls herself his #1 fan, to a murdering psychopath. And when she doesn't get the autograph she wanted from him she orders the vault hunter to just look him in the eye and murder the everloving crap out of him. So in my opinion with that context in mind, Tiny Tina being so safe and teen friendly in Wonderlands makes 0 sense. And I feel gearbox went way too safe on her writing neglecting a lot of the raw borderlands humor that made it so good even after so many years. And that humor wasn't even offensive in anyway, it was just unique and dark at times. I feel that now they're trying to please people that most likely don't even play Borderlands games in order not to get cancelled off twitter because god forbid that somebody feels offended. Which I believe to be a big shame and mistake. A moment that stood out to me a lot was fairly early on when she has to take a minute for a "vibe-check" and discuss the main character's "feelings" because they had the smallest of disagreements. All while the original BL2 DLC version has Lillith question Tina on why all her dwarves look like Salvador and she tells her off by asking Salvador wether he finds it offensive and he responds with "that is awesome!". I'm not saying I want continueous offensive content. I just don't want the game to go down this woke path of being way too cautious to make a joke because somebody might feel offended. Teen rating is not a fit for Borderlands games.
had me cracked up a moment when matty mention you could go condition damage increase... someone clearly never had to fight a guild wars 2 condi necromancer in wvw... they touch you... aaaaaaand your hp is gone

My biggest critique of Borderlands 3 how the comedic writing sacrificed its darker tone in the name of diversity and inclusion, which sounds horrible when I word it like that but I really don't know how else to put it. No one can be made fun of any more and the team can't (and don't want to) take any risks - it goes without saying diversity is a good thing!! and people shouldn't be marginalised!! (and don't glean that "edgy writing" is all I want out of this series because it's not) but this series started off as a tongue-in-cheek way to skirt around and challenge those sensibilities, and showed us that digital media could take these risks while simultaneously promoting discussions surrounding sensitive topics. So much of 3's writing was immensely inoffensive and diluted, constantly barraging the player with awful jokes and forced character quirks, so as soon as I heard about Wonderlands I immediately grimaced thinking about the quality of the story and writing this time around. I'm hesitant to hop in to this game because the quests, dialogue and characters of 3 grated me so much that I dread being met with a similar story experience - 3's gameplay is fantastic and I appreciated the scope of the whole game (it's far from perfect but it's definitely commendable work), but I just don't feel like this series is for me any more and it hurts because B1 is so close to my heart and it feels like they're tearing down the foundations it set up. When I play Wonderlands I'll go into it with an open mind because me judging it after seeing 1% of it is silly. But God if I'm not happy about the direction this franchise took in recent years. I'm excited to give it a go, though.
I guess it really depends on what you liked best about the Borderlands series. The "dark humor" was never really my shtick. I appreciated the more goofy, off-the-wall bits, and always liked that it never took itself too seriously, even if the humor was (always. I don't know if those are some rose-tinted glasses, but literally always. See: Bonerfarts) a bit juvenile. Comparing this so closely the actual Borderlands games when this was always meant to be an offshoot seems a little weird to me in general, but if you were personally hyping yourself up for more of that, when this was never supposed to be Borderlands 4, fair enough, I guess.
I would even throw in, this is tiny tina making the adventure. It is HER take on humor which was always a little more wacky... I dont think it can be as good as BL2 was at the time and i dont think it will reach the peak of borderlands story telling and character growth like dragon keep did, but this will be fun.
For anyone who wanna to read this my part of a review -> the game is butchered, the humor of all borderlands was removed so they wouldn’t offend anyone, they tryed to make it “woke” for all this new generation, (I’ve said this before, don’t add real life issues into a game it we’ll just ruin it.) here comes endless hate for saying this alone 60-75% of you stop reading and commenting hate already. For those still here here’s more, melee is ok, they tryed it but still butcher it up, half the time melee is completely useless most of the damages in this game are elements witch you can only have 1 melee weapons at any giving time, witch makes your melee only work to things week to that type of element even then you don’t wanna run around for every last ai. the hardest difficulty is way to easy been walking right though it all, from the starting up. The “magic” is a grenade mod, some of them are kinda cool tho. The over all skill system kinda sucks, 2/3 of them from older games, so less over all freedom there. It Doesn’t tell you about it but it locks some of your skill till you get so far into the story, your class feat for anyone who wants to know. Most of the weapons are just copy n pasted from the older games just reskin like a call of duty game. This is coming from someone who has thousands of hours on all the borderlands games. Half of the old issues from the older games are back. Most named ai don’t respond. Everyone has a chance to drop anything so no loot farming locations. The end game is just tedious, has it really doesn’t get hard or fun. The over world map is just lackluster, as it now forces you to endlessly fights that are boarding after a while. Like old Pokémon when your level 100 n a level 5 wild fights you. Not to mention that movement on the over world feels so clunky slow. There’s a lot less Easter eggs then in the past, found like 3 so far myself at best, witch brings the point, I havnt been looking for loot as much has they have hidden things for like a 5 year old to find, you can find most of the stuff just by walking and looking so far, Is so blandness with this leaves you a void in your heart trying to have fun looking for the hard to find stuff witch used to be. There are literally big yellow paint everywhere showing you where you can jump making you have to think less, even by the stuff they did try to hide it just like (big yellow sign here is a jump) on a spot you can clearly jump on just by looking, removing most the guess work as is, it isn’t hard to see you can jump it. The UI sucks half of it seems to be a bit of a bug though idk. Armor is just a class mod pretty much. I can keep going… In short this game take was made to suite people who didn’t want a hard, fun, funny, time while playing it. 2 outta 5
yea no shit. They have gone too safe with Borderlands since 3. They renamed the Migets "Tinks" and In Wonderlands they have Pronoun options. Shit is really lame, Borderlands 2 was the peak and came out before every twitter retard pretended to be upset about words because they have no other meaning in their lives other than being offended. Glad Im old enough to remember when games were games and not afraid to do whatever they wanted.
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is a spin-off of Borderlands, so ofcourse it will be familiar to the previous games. The story and humor is really good, it doesn't need to be dark or mature. The gameplay is more deep than just shooting until the enemy dies, there are spells and melee weapons, ect. It's a looter shooter with a bit of RPG elements. The Overworld is a cool design to explore dungeons, the endgame is also really engaging and addictive, I have not felt bored doing any of the quests. If you don't like the new less dark spin-off game then you can just go play Borderlands, Wonderlands is still a really enjoyable game.
If I loved all of them except the original. I'm really not worried about this game. BL3 wasn't bad especially when compared to pre-sequel and at the end of the day there is no game series that you can truly compare to the Borderlands series. It unique and that's why I love it.
Leveling was fun with a friend. I'm not feeling the endgame though. The "random segments of maps" you're plopped into and then teleported out of are immersion dampening. All you have left is a travel-less grind. As warm as the characters in BL1 were, the Chaos Chamber in TTW is a cold, emotionless item grinder. You might as well work in the Macrodata Refinement department.
Same problem got to lvl 40 story was OK at best. Then I did my first choas dungeon and was pissed it feels like all I have left to do is beat bosses faster. True vault hunter mode doesn't help either because the story sucked and is Def not worth replaying
I'm a bit confused on what you expected from the writing, you're playing a story "written" by Tiny Tina. This isn't Borderlands, it's DnD with the most childish character in the series as your DM.....
I think that says a lot about what DnD is becoming as it goes mainstream. Less about deep fantasy wordbuilding and more about internet culture following E-personas' wacky hijinks. To take Crit Role and Dimension 20 for examples. Less interest in Matt Mercer's Lore writing and more in his funny voices.
Tiny tina isnt just one sided character you might think as. The tiny tina’s first dlc in bl2 was great becoz it has some moment of showing why she is playing BNB with vault hunters(she wanted to see Roland again).
Okay i could get this normally but IM guessing you've never played any other borderlands game before. Tina isn't your typically kid she's literally a psychopath that makes both and kills people. Yet all of her humour was pretty childish. I dont think anyone was expecting a good story since its meant to be a fantasy board game in a fantasy game. But the humour was pretty terrible throughout and the endgame stuff isn't even really enjoyable so the whole thing was mediocre.
@@oliversaunders2967 I've played and beaten every borderlands game. And I never said she lacked depth. I said she was the most childish (core) character. Which is correct. She has trauma and lots of great underlying themes, but it's all under a coat of "lol so random" humor. In wonderlands you're literally playing a game with her, and so of course she's going to try and make it fun. There are moments in wonderlands where you can see her need for control and desire to avoid major conflict/character death, but its mostly just her trying to have fun.
So just like Borderlands 3, the writing comes off, lacking and as you said, too "safe". This is the kind of charm that has been lost from games of the early 00s and early 10s honestly. They don't take risks in case someone gets offended, literally a bunch of other games fell victim of this, and in turn you get a game that's just meh, barely anything to rememeber it by. Specially for Borderlands where the comedy rised from risky jokes and weird messed up topics. The satire that made Borderlands special is gone, they just try to play it safe and that will never work. Thanks for the review Matty!
@@kennethsjvold9212 I mean, everyone has their own opinion. I just hope they were honest and not just being paid or influenced to talk good about the game. I've played all BL games to date and I can tell you that the writing changed for 3 and seeing Matty mention it here too doesn't surprise me, doubt future entries change either. This is more of a social perception and strong opinion on dark humor. And I get the problems with it when done with ill intention. But sadly it also damages movies and games alike to be more flat. Specially BL as I mentioned.
@@sumireravenclaw8034 that might be true but the tone of BL3 made the game hard for me to play. I was done with it before dlc ever dropped and couldn't convince myself to spend more money on it. just seemed like it was made for teenagers.
Almost every joke ever told is inherently offensive and there's no real way around it other than to be clever with it for it to be funny and not actually sound offensive. If you try to avoid it, this is what you get.
I don’t agree with that but I do think that it’s perfectly ok to have characters in games who make lots of offensive jokes as long as the reactions to them and around them aren’t off
@@Cheesepuff8The range of offense varies but there really are a huge amount of jokes that just simply are by nature. Not all ofc hence the "almost". Very few are genuinely offensive to where it shouldn't be used, and some are just dark, requiring an acquired taste. But yeah offensive jokes should be allowed, as long as it's clever and never used with malicious intent. Offensive humor can be great if done right. I'm friends with a couple of black people at my job and I'm white. I split away just long enough to get around a car and one of them teased me saying I segregated them. I took it well because I know he was just messing with me, no ill intent behind it. Different situation but you get the idea.
I don't wanna knock even more on this game but they ADDED spells but also REMOVED grenades lol.. so it's just a fancier grenade slot they does a little more. It's not like it's something brand new to loot, because I used to farm for grenades, now it's just spells.
Great review man. Thank you for talking about the decline in humor starting in Borderlands 3. Say what you will about the pre-sequel, but at least it had it’s funny moments. To go from the humor of the second game to the third one was a disgraceful hit against the fanbase. I’m a massive Borderlands fan but I can’t stand how horribly written Borderlands 3 is.
Holy crap, what a terrible take on this game. This isn't borderlands 4, it's bunkers and badasses (as told by Tina) the full version... Nearly everything you complained about was exactly what you should have expected going into this... You complained about random battle on the overworld map, you can smack them to avoid the entire random battle aspect. Build diversity is the largest it has ever been in any borderlands game... You have your main, and then one of 5 other skill trees you can pull from to modify your build.... Gear builds, appear to be the most customizable and unique they have ever been as well. Seriously... awful take...
I think I’m gonna love this game everyone I’ve heard from says it could be the best in the series I personally think people who don’t like it are somewhat delusional
@@aaronlaughter6471 not really, he just kinda completely missed the point of the game, I'm all for criticism of the game if those criticism are constructive , for instance the most definately needs to be an option to skip dialog. There is an abundance of dialog, good story overall with a lot of rpg tropes that fans of the genre will recognize, but borderlands is a game with a lot of replay value by design with 6 different characters to choose from and an endless amount of customization and build variations, that you need to be able to skip dialog especially if you're on your third or forth playthrough. It can get very tedious. The game is far from perfect which is fine. However, this entire "review" has completely missed the point of the game and has lost touch with reality. Honestly it's as if it was done intentionally just for the sake of bashing the game.
I just found your review and I soooo very much appreciate your take. I am an older adult who grew up with the harsher comedy when no one got offended. When I discovered Borderlands I felt like I was taken back to those good times. The writing was the gold ticket for me. It was the first fps that I actually gave a good try and quickly became hooked....and it was %100 due to the writing. I still go to different locations in bl2 just to listen to different enemy quotes. The first time my daughter (who's not a gamer ) came into the room when I was playing to ask me if she heard an enemy say, "I smell delicious!"? And I said, 'yeah... I set him on fire'... She had a hardy laugh and sat to watch more just to listen to the characters and enemies. That is writing at its best. I can turn the volume down on bl3 and not feel bad. That's a shame 😟
Im not done with this game yet. But so far I disagree the writing in this game made me chuckle and made more engaged with the story. Comepared to the last 4 games in the series, I had more fun with this one
I think it’s okay for a franchise to try something different for a different audience with spin-off games. Mainline games are not the place to reinvent the wheel unless the IP is stale and calls for it.
It's not a "Borderlands"game.... It's a "Tiny Tina" game. She's an over dramatized interpretation of a psychopathic 13 yr old. It's not supposed to have the same writing style as the Borderlands titles.
They literally wrote the story as if they were Tiny Tina. How is that shit writing. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean is bad. They literally make fun of people like you in the game is like they saw this coming 🤣🤣
I cant wait to play more Borderlands and have a great time but I can see Gearbox should take BL4 further because this series will hit a plateu after this game. I honestly love Bl2 and Bl3 have over 500hrs on PC and over 500hrs on PS4/PS5 so i really hope they evolve this franchise after WL. Im afriad there wont be enough build varierty
I think the game is T for teen because of who the dungeon master is; Tiny Tina, someone who is a Teen at this time, and the jokes are childish because they are being told BY a child in the grand scheme of things, thats why it feels different in that essence
while i fell in love with borderlands for the sheer raunchy, abrasive and dark humor in bl 1 and 2, i have to admit that while the gameplay loop is great, but that edgy-ish humor was what kept me going and enjoying it, so for me that makes tiny tina's wonderland a no-go, i can really enjoy a grindy game, but for a borderlands fomula game, i do consider the way the humor supplemented bl1 and 2 as essential, so it just sounds like a wow-clone effect for me, but made by the same devs... which is saddening in a way
Have you watched any other review? Most people are saying it's really funny you can't just watch one guy say he didn't think it was funny and dismiss the game all together
@@loganedom3160 true, but i am going of the consistent decline in the humor ever since bltps which has me concerned about a 60 bucks purchase when i'm already tight on cash.... in that regard, given the costs, i would sooner continue playing bl2 rather than risk it on a new release i've no clear vision. might still give it a shot once it's been out for a while and goes on sale and such, but right now it's a hard no, given time, i might see more and come to consider it, but not now.
I’m just trying to find some thoughts on whether this game is worth the $60 price point from people who hopefully agree with me that borderlands 3 was not worth that price or the general price of the dlcs in that game.
Great review. Valid points but the focus is on things I learned to turn off with playing Borderlands. I don’t care for the story or the character writing, I only play for the skill trees and the end game loop. It does make it easier to get to the end with an enjoyable story but I could play it on mute if I want lol. It’s bad that I have to say that but that’s what I’ve come to expect w Borderlands. 2 was a bit too long for me and presequel I enjoyed the character trees a lot even if I don’t remember the story. 3 was very fun but I hated the story as well. The end game was a mess too. So I’m hoping this has better end game and I can deal with it as a stop gap to the real next good looter shooter. I really hate the T rating too bc I like the dark gory aspects of borderlands (the reason why I choose this series over destiny). But I’m glad there are reviews like this so that gearbox can see what they need to work on by the time 4 comes out.
There's only 1 skill tree per class vs 4 in bl3, even tho wonderlands has 2 more classes, there's only 6 total skill trees vs 16 different skill trees in bl3, my biggest problem with wonderlands is the lack of content
!!!!WARNING!!!! Do not get this game if you intend to do any split screen whatsoever. They have decided to cut down the UI during split screen to such an extent that you cant even tell if a gun is an SMG or Pistol, there is no flavour text saying what kinds of alternate fire there is or anything beyond damage/fire rate etc. spellbooks (grenades) are the same and only have core stats leaving you to have to inspect every individual item just to find out what it does beyond core stats. even class items....nothing, It is completely unplayable. Please upvote this for visibility as I and many others may only buy this on certain platforms because of split screen on the same machine.
I'm not expecting anything new, it's still the same gameplay on the same engine as BL3 with just a different skin / story - exactly what I expected. I've gone ahead and purchased it with this in mind. My expectations for BL4 however will be much different. Wonderlands is not BL4, it's just a spin-off from BL3.
Well you can't please everyone and no one should try to do that. I myself had a good time playing it. Gonna play it again as another class sometime. But a lot in this review seemed off for me. Like a game made for kids is different than a game run by a kid. Tiny Tina is the DM. it's who was running the show and why things the way they were. It was Izzys Fizzys and not Izzys Bar. It did feel a bit off overall honestly a little lackluster but I still had fun. But maybe you'll enjoy Borderlands 4.
"I don't like borderlands anymore so I was expecting their next game to be different. That's why I'm dissapointed." I think there's an even bigger problem here...
Borderlands lost me after borderlands 2. Presequel was meh. And the story of borderlands 3 was trash. I feel like I've just outgrown this type of dialogue and humor in games. I feel like borderlands 1 had just the right amount of humour for me.
I thought that removing boob comments etc. from RE4 VR was dump censorship. But this kills that. . It would really suck if most video game companies stop implementing jokes just because some might get offended and yell at them on Twitter.... I try not to care, but this annoys me. Jokes are made to be laughed at. And if you can't handle them, it's your problem. Work on it
I’m actually looking forward to being able to play this game with my 14 year old. Loved BL2, but wasn’t as into BL3 besides the new locations. Honestly, the DLC in the series have been more memorable to me overall than the main games, particularly the original BL - went through most of the game not even remembering why the quest was necessary for the story. BL2 is definitely the high point of the series. So if this is similar game play that’s not glitchy and can be something multiple family members can play together I’ll take that as a win.
For me, I think it was primarily the combination of the villains in BL3 being really annoying and not caring as much for the new NPC protagonists added in that one. I felt the best parts were interaction with NPCs from the prior games but some of the characters like Tiny Tina had minimal interaction and no Mr Torgue who always makes me laugh. I did like seeing some of the heads of the weapons manufacturers like Jacobs. I didn’t think BL3 was bad by any stretch - probably still liked it better than the original.
After reading this I highly advise you not to get this game. The games writing is terrible and the humour is awful. Not to mention the two other players(valentine and frette) are very annoying to listen to throughout the game. Save your money
I just... I don't understand you anymore, and it's such a shame, because I used to love your videos. But honestly? I feel like Elden Ring and your unrealistic view of it, has ruined anything coming from you. Which sounds harsh,a nd I don't mean it that way, but come on. Since that game was perfect, flawless, the future of gaming, yada yada yada, instead of actually being realistic about it, just joining into the overhype of it, you've just been... Hating on all other games that come out. And I don't mean just blind hate or whatever, but honestly? You even here bring up points AGAIN that are literally the same thing, to even more so in a problematic way in Elden Ring, yet again, in that it's brilliant and supposedly groundbreaking, but in all other games, it's bad? And before any of the overly hyped triggered fanboys come attack me again, I'm NOT saying it's a bad game, I AM however saying that Elden Ring is really, REALLY to me not even close to how everyone is making it out to be. The fact that even the slightest amount of criticism on the game is seen as unfair and whatever, only proves that even more. And I just don't get that when you bring up problems with this game, with that game, that are the EXACT, if not WORSE problems in Elden Ring, it's either ignored, or praised in that anyway, and trashed on in others. FromSoft games just have this brainwashing almost where people that love their games, just LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the games and any realistic criticism on it just disappears completely. So, either actually go back to Elden Ring and be HONEST about it, especially when you keep bringing up shit that's the same, if not worse as I said, in that game. Or at least BE honest and admit that you're blinded and you will never like anything again. And the other problem on top of that is that, like so many other 'reviewers' at this point, this is NOT a review anymore,a nd people should actually look into what reviews used to be, because they were NOT opinion pieces of what YOU think of the game, it was an un-biased view of the game in a grander scope than just you. Yet, so many 'reviews' now, including this one, is just non-stop: "Me, me, me, me, me, me, and ME!" again, a little overdramatic, but you get what I mean.
this is 100% not a borderlands game. hence why borderlands isn’t anywhere in the name. hell it’s not even rated M, and we know borderlands is known for that rating. you just gotta go into this as a new IP.
Psychonauts 2 was best-written game for comedy for me and far cry blood dragon. I never found borderlands funny it made me cringe as they tried too hard never natural. This review saves me money I was very hyped for this, now it appears another by the numbers game with nothing unique.
Yeah I find the gap of people who find BL writing cringey or not cringey interesting Personally I’ve always found the characters in BL games (before BL3) to be not cringey cause they most of the time fit their character and universe and the situation they’re in
@@Cheesepuff8 my problems with borderlands humour is that most of the games are M......... but no one EVER drops an f-bomb..... hey Lilith, Jack KILLED your boyfriend...... you can scream “FUCK” if you want too.
Honestly no surprise here. The Borderlands games are not really what they used to be and it just seemed like they were attempting to capitalize on a previous success. Additionally all the borderlands games are essentially a re-make of one another.
Me too. Every single substantial change (the overworld, spells, double classing, fantasy setting, etc..) I like. I also personally still enjoy the comedy of the series. it never tapered off for me idk
@@bultronlagore4932 I’ve heard about the whole thing. But tbh I didn’t notice that or the cringy dialogue until I heard comments and reviews. I’ve noticed it a bit now but idk it nowhere near ruined the game for it. I see where you’re coming from though
Companies are too scared to hurt people feelings now..worlds become dull. But I also think this games coming from the childish mind and point of view of Tina. She’s “making everything up” so everything would be childish
Honestly I felt the exact same about 3. So if this game has the same writing issues than I’m all good Borderlands 2 continues to be my favorite game of all time, but if this isn’t going to do it justice then I’m good
To be fair i dont think bl2 will be beaten story wise. I'm just sad the humour in wonderlands is absolute garbage and feels like something im forced to sit through instead of being able to enjoy.
@@oliversaunders2967 admittedly, I'd agree about the story. I kinda just wanted better than we got The humor I think is the bigger issue sometimes. It really does feel like it's more geared towards children now
I really agree with your review of the writing and overall feel of the last few games. I absolutely loved BL and BL2 and I thought a full game based on some of the best DLC in the series was going to be amazing, but it really fell flat for me. I did have fun with the prequel, but I couldn't get into BL3 at all because of the twins and Tina's Wonderland gave me a similar feeling like the game is just geared toward a younger audience. I always play the BL games with friends and that's really the only reason I had fun with Tina's Wonderland. It's nice to find a review that makes similar points and comes from a similar background of loving the first few entries.
Yeah he doesnt really sound like a fan of BL lol im taking this with a pillar of salt
This is the same boat I just wanted a full game of my favorite dlc from the series.
A bit of turning the blind eye on that point in those cases I guess... ;)
Pre sequel wasn’t a miss. I can’t believe it’s still completely overhated it’s like bioshock 2 all over again
Agreed, I loved the gravity movement, and especially loved playing as Athena. The shield throw was so fun to use, especially mixed with the gravity.
The lasers were fun and The game was just Good. But appearently it a crime or something.
Amen, BioShock 2 was a gem and a genuine improvement on the first but was doomed to hatred out of the untouchable love for the earlier entry. God what a brilliant game.
Yup. Plot wasn’t half bad and the gameplay is fun as all get out.
I thought Bioshock 2 kicked the shit out of infinite. The pre sequel was a great game in its own right too.
Maybe it’s just me,but I didn’t think this way another “Borderlands” but more so a full version of Bunkers and Badass.
i can't wait dude 😊👌💕
Thanks captain obvious
If that's the case then Bunkers and Badasses must be one shit-shallow tabletop game.
Pre sequel was supposed to be dlc....tiny tina wonderland should have been bl3 dlc...why did this get a full game.....bl died after bl2
@@northernlightsrc8994 Nah bro the game is easily the second best borderlands game I just love it so much.
This Matty guy is one of those nerds who needs a “good story.” He probably cried watching the last Spider-Man
@@jonr7364 lmao. So true
@@jonr7364 i dont get how people dont like a game for not having a good story not every game needs that if they have everything else amazing

It just didn't pull you in at all.
why tf are people STILL comparing this game to borderlands, it straight up has a different name and gb said it at first: THIS ISNT BORDERLANDS yet people immediately be like "anyways this game isn't as good as bl3 even tho we're 3 months in and bl3 is 3 years old im still gonna compare them"
@@john-bl4bo If THIS is annoying you Id hate to see your reactions to Starfield being compared to No Mans Sky /shrug
People compare things.

Does it really get hate ? I only hear hate for 3. Pre-sequel is actually my favourite.
@@rvnhty yeah "too Australian and not funny" among other complaints. which is a shame...cause i cant unhear "good lookin mainframe" but people seem to like it more now that they hate 3 (kinda like how everyone suddenly loves the starwars prequels cause reasons)
agree i enjoyed the pre-sequel more compared to bl3
presequel has 2nd best story behind borderlands 2 , and 2nd best game play behind after borderlands 3 , overall good game, id rather play presequel than an sjw mess like borderlands 3
I think the classes and skill trees in the pre-sequel are probably the best of the series as well.
/end rant
Yeah I loved the pre-sequel

I put about 90 hours in and thought that was too much (for me, personally).

I loved BL2. In my top 5 of all time. Pre-sequel was pretty good. 3 was average. After how great 2 was, I would rate 3 disappointing. This looks interesting, but I don’t see it being as fun as 2.
3 was quite a bit better than the pre sequel Imo
3 was better than bl2 and pre sequel in every single game way except writing
This isnt specifically related to your comment but still needs to be put out there: the only thing bl2 has over any other lands game is the story, and that's far from being the main focus in the series right now. I perfectly understand bl2 being a lot of people's favorite but bl3 not having the same level of story writing doesn't mean trhe entire game is "average". It's amazing and inifinitely better than bl2 gameplay/ build diversity wise, and in many more ways. It focuses on gameplay, like wonderlands, like it should, because that's clearly where these games can be developped the most.
I'm not big on Borderlands, but I love fantasy stuff, like castles, dragons and stuff, so I'm looking forward to this game, and it sad that its not Rated M, but never less, I'm intrigued enough to play it
Same here. I tried to get into BL but I just could not. Wonderlands feels like a different game. I know it’s the D&D flavor but I love that.

Co-op scaling was the same in BL3 - which was a great addition; makes it easy to jump in and you get loot scaled to you - makes it a lot more fun.

I think they said that 3 raid type bosses could be found in the chaos trials for endgame
There's like 5 enemy types lol its so lazy

The issue with BL3 was, half of the story was just dropped on the cutting room floor because... It humanized Ava, and we can't do that to anyone any more if the new Starwars film is any indication of that.
My only complaint about this game is the difficulty. I have the game on the highest difficulty and it's a joke. The enemies don't scale well. Also the amount of enemies that around are very little especially with the random encounters in the overworld. There's just not enough chaos during fights.
Because it's made for children. The writing alone kinda let's u know this isn't mean to challenge anyone over the age of 12.
BL2 isn't a perfect game. It becomes completely unplayable for me in TVHM
"this is a really good game but i hate it because its still borderlands" just saved you 20 min.
I like it
Honestly I saw all the good reviews for it and bought it and felt a lot of cognitive dissonance while playing it because the game sucks.
I do want to say I’m glad they got to experiment a little bit with this game, and I hope they keep the creative energy up for whatever they do next!
Honestly, what happened to the guys that wrote the Assault on dragon keep story, even though it wasn't perfect it's still better than anything we've had since.

2 outta 5
A nice review.
@@aaronlaughter6471 thank you. am still praying it gets bettter.
I'm not sure you can have comedy any more without being cancelled.... everything is "offensive"....
yea no shit.
I actually liked the Pre Sequel. It was lacking on some places, but It has some of the most unqiue Vault Hunters in the series to play as.
Because it's written by tiny tina, that's an excuse for bad storytelling?
I mean Marty from what I seen is he’s not the biggest Borderlands player so I’ll hold your review with respect and look at other references
I read this in Doc Brown's voice.
His reviwe is so different from everyone else, the one thing everyone say is the story is the best in all of the borderlands games
Nobody plays bordelrands for the story. lol Yeah sure bl2 story was far better then 3 or even 2 but the gameplay and endgame is what we play for
@@sumireravenclaw8034 that might be true but the tone of BL3 made the game hard for me to play. I was done with it before dlc ever dropped and couldn't convince myself to spend more money on it. just seemed like it was made for teenagers.
Im currently lvl 36...It's not for kids at all. There is alot of profanity and sexual scenes. I think it is more going on the silly adult side.
Almost every joke ever told is inherently offensive and there's no real way around it other than to be clever with it for it to be funny and not actually sound offensive. If you try to avoid it, this is what you get.
They are trying to appease a crowd that more than likely wouldn't touch their games (or games really) anyhow...gun violence is offensive after all.
I hope Redfall's rumors are true and this series finally has some more direct rivalry.

I'm loving the game. It's been really hard to put down, and I was undwrwhelmed by BL3
That's just an excuse for shit writing.

I think the game is T for teen because of who the dungeon master is; Tiny Tina, someone who is a Teen at this time, and the jokes are childish because they are being told BY a child in the grand scheme of things, thats why it feels different in that essence
Man even kids aren't that terrible with jokes. Sometimes I wonder who these corporate heads look to when trying to get "hip" writers lol
while i fell in love with borderlands for the sheer raunchy, abrasive and dark humor in bl 1 and 2, i have to admit that while the gameplay loop is great, but that edgy-ish humor was what kept me going and enjoying it, so for me that makes tiny tina's wonderland a no-go, i can really enjoy a grindy game, but for a borderlands fomula game, i do consider the way the humor supplemented bl1 and 2 as essential, so it just sounds like a wow-clone effect for me, but made by the same devs... which is saddening in a way
Have you watched any other review?
Same I def don’t play borderlands for the story or characters 😂
There's only 1 skill tree per class vs 4 in bl3, even tho wonderlands has 2 more classes, there's only 6 total skill trees vs 16 different skill trees in bl3, my biggest problem with wonderlands is the lack of content
@@mathewhosier9739 6 skill trees that can be mixed and borderlands 3 only had 12 at launch still double but you shouldn't count DLC in the comparison.
That makes no sense, Borderlands 2 story was good (handsome Jack), so where is this story doesn't matter coming from.

It did feel a bit off overall honestly a little lackluster but I still had fun. But maybe you'll enjoy Borderlands 4.
"I don't like borderlands anymore so I was expecting their next game to be different. That's why I'm dissapointed."
I think there's an even bigger problem here...
Work on it
You can skip random encounters by hitting the enemies when they pop out of the grass.
Why wasn't you into BL3 because people are saying it does a lot of what BL3 did so choose carefully
It’s not funny anymore because as we grow older we change.
It’s the sad truth.
