I think you missed quite a bit here. The game is basically a perfect version of BL3, better idea around building and the such. The issue is that is basically the same game as BL3, and BL2 before it ... With some idea for lategame (with automatically generated arena) that basically canibalized the end game experience cause it was the only form of end game content that ended up being viable, kind of trapping the player into doing that. I think it was also an error. I think it would have been much more enjoyable, if they wanted randomly generated content, to make up linear dungeon type like map with random ennemies and things, but not this arena based experience. Fighting through a linear map until the boss room is much more "borderlandy" that this boring arena.
Forgot to add, I did appreciate the effort the author put into his video, good/bad/ugly. You hit good points, and i agreed with a lot of them. If you did a remake, I’ll watch that too. 👍🏼
@@lurch789 really? it had way too much content (even as bare as it was) to be considered for a DLC, that might be a bit drastic. if you hated the game thats fair but if it were a DLC priced as a DLC i dont think many people would have complained as much. thats just my opinion though.
wonderlands is an excellent game, just like the pre-sequel, with its main flaw of no real end-game content and very few dedicated loot farms. this just makes it enjoyable for 1 or 2 playthroughs and that's it. very different than bl2 and bl3. i was disappointed myself with the end-game but hopefully they create proper DLCs in the future, or just have bl4 come to sooner than expected.
Wouldnt calll it excellent personally. The insanely easy difficulty made it pretty hard to actually engage in the game. My friends and i cleared it on hardest difficulty in a few hours. Only ever died to the wastard. Thats it. Also, cant talk about modern borderlands without mentioning the degrading writing quality. Another huge problem was the general lack of diversity. Tons of the same kinds of enemies with no unique mechanics, like the video said, and bosses that generally felt the same. Made the game feel very linear.
@@armyofninjas9055 literally so many people disagree with that standpoint, myself included. The map design is gorgeous and the unique enemies that do spawn are as well. Problem is there is no real incentive to explore these maps or play past the end game inside them. Most content you play afterword is chaos dungeon only, and it hurts that the unique enemies never respawn in the over world or have any unique drops to there pool
We need a remastered Original Borderlands with all the updates to abilities and gun play. The Original vault hunters deserve their day in the sun again.
I disagree, the original was great in its own way and should stay untouched each Borderlands game has their own strengths and weakness’s and by keeping them the way they are it allows us to go back and forth on the games
If borderlands 1 were to be remade, they would nerf the gun system, [You can have any part from any gun] You might get A missile launching automatic shotgun or you might get a 6 Round LMG with bouncing bullets. A rare item in borderlands isnt necessarily a good one, That created borderland 1's gameplay loop - where players would restart the story for another opportunity at a better gun roll. They would log into split screen and trade an item over to their real account, any way to get good guns and abuse the game. any rapid fire gun with missle or wave rocks pvp players, i believe they'll nerf or balance how guns work destroying what made bl1, bl1, it would be a revamp or a remake and i dont support it.
So TBF...i have recently gone back to this game. MOST of everything i stated is still here but for some reason i am getting into the game. expect an update to this at some point, i may have been a bit too harsh on the game and really had gearbox's response/actions during its lifetime is what bothered me the most. very interesting place to be in. stay tuned
Looking forward to it. I personally had an incredibly poor experiencd with this game on launch with my friends. To me it was an atrociously easy, repetitive, buggy mess. If it’s somehow gotten better since then, maybe the $60 wasn’t entirely a waste?
That's totally fair. I am not sure a ton has changed but I think me going into the game with a differentmindset was really helpful. Thanks for watching have a good day
@@AncientPangolinGaming Ye you too. Looking forward to more from you! I have a lot of love for Borderland in general. Lots of good memories from playing the handsome collection on the couch w/ my friends, and the first telltale game was amazing. This one just missed the mark in so many ways. It makes me sad because there was so much potential in the game's concept. But it felt incredibly rushed in terms of the technical and creative aspects. I wish more game companies would take Nintendo's approach: literally just take a few extra years if it means producing a quality game. Unfortunately, not every company has the market staying power they do, so Idk if that's even feasible.
Borderlands really peaked at 2 imo. It feels so distinctly borderlands, really feels like an original. BL3 is great and really fun, it's different to BL2. BL3 feels much more weighted and visceral, BL2 feels more Arcady and punchy. Honestly though BL3 reminds me so much of destiny, the only part I think is improved compared to BL2 is the multiplayer. If BL2 had the multiplayer of the newer games it'd be the place to be imo.
@@subnighterhawk1535 Worst part is they are actually pretty interesting in concept. A pair of twins that are sirens? One of which is a man who NEEDS his sister to leech energy off, that's a super cool idea. Even the idea of someone coming along and uniting all the bandits together is a cool idea. The corporate warfare of Atlas vs Maliwan, having a previous vault hunter (Aurelia) turn evil, Maya training a protege, learning about the first vault hunter and first vault. All these things are such cool ideas in theory, they just really whiffed it on the execution unfortunately
I disagree 2’s weapon variety isn’t much and only a couple weapons remain useful beyond normal mode, also most of the weapon sound effects are kinda bad tbh. Though it’s a really good game, gameplay wise 3 is just miles better with all the added quality of life stuff and mobility options.
I played this for like 12 hours on PS5 splitscreen co-op and was overwhelmed with the desire to never play it again in my life. I haven't really liked a single Borderlands game since the first one but this game takes the fucking cake for Gearbox's ineptness.
There is 1 part of Wonderlands I really liked because of how it reflects on Dragon's Keep. The idea that Roland originally introduced Tina to B&B adds this extra layer of "that's why she's using B&B to cope with Roland's death". Also bonus points for letting Torgue follow through with his threat from Dragon's Keep & blow-up the ocean.
yknow, the dragon lord is actually quite an interesting villain if you think about it, hes a well written villain yeah, but hes just more or less a handsome jack clone that isnt super malevolent in the end, this actually makes sense because tina only saw the bad side of jack and, having the brain of a kid, thinks that maybe jack had a redemption in the end and sacrificed himself for the vault hunters, so it actually makes sense why the dragon lord would be more of a clone of jacks personality
On the PC side of it. It was a EGS exclusive on launch. PC players don’t agree with store exclusives like console players do. So that probably hurt the sales a lot. Then by the time the EGS exclusive contract ended. No one cared to play the game. As we all seen gameplay/streams of it and went MeH.
I know I am late to the party on this, and I do not know if it was a financially a failure or not. It did have a good launch and was definitely a game that was fun to play through once, but there was not much support post launch. The big problem I had was the time gated nature of the "DLC." They also insisted on continuing to push up the chaos levels despite fans insisting this was not the type of content they wanted I think they go all the way up to lvl100. They did make some quality of life improvements from some of the things mentioned in the video such as increasing the loot viability from the wheel of fate, and allowing more than 500 crystals to be spent at once at the chaos chamber bunny room.
Nah financially the game did well randy said there will be more games based on wonderlands but I’m just worried that they will repeat the same thing since randy and 2k are just scummy
I enjoyed this for a good 20+ hours (less than 40). I enjoyed the main story, the main gameplay loop, and progression. I enjoyed getting new guns and enjoyed exploring the world. Eventually got bored of the combat and things started to just feel like a chore. I enjoyed that it was a multiplayer open world RPG that I could play with my 7 year old because it was appropriate enough. Was a good game. Definitely not perfect.
"Felt like a cash grab." Because it was. The season pass was a complete money grab. It provided very little in the way of endgame. Base game isn't a bad purchase if it's on sale. But that's the only content worth the purchase.
I think wonderlands is headed in the right direction with the vanilla game but on launch a severe lack of dedicated drops and actually unique dlc content post launch besides just reskinned chaos chambers really really killed the endgame and just didn't help a lot of people get into it. But what do i know lol?
I have to agree. Monetarily for them it may not have "failed" but from a consumer perspective I think it has. Apparently there isn't any more content in the works. So for some that say wait a couple of years, they may be disappointed if they're banking on this game becoming more than it is. I always wait before getting into any new borderlands until the various patches and DLC are out and the level cap is high enough to bother with. I waited a year before BL3 and had a blast (Story and Ada aside). I've been waiting to get this one for the same reason. Seems like it worked out for the best since I don't see enough to make it worth my while. If someone bought this, enjoyed the hell out of it and feel they got their moneys worth out of it, great for them. I just had a feeling that it wouldn't get the support it needed to be lifted up to a true BL experience which is a shame really. I was looking forward to it.
I feel Wonderlands is an example of Quality over Quantity. If Borderlands 3 needed more time in the oven, then Wonderlands was barely in to begin with. It seriously worries me that Wonderlands is going to be a franchise in addition to Borderlands, as yearly or bi-yearly releases will only make the future games feel even more rushed. I hope going forward Gearbox finishes the life cycle of their current games before even thinking about jumping into a new one.
I feel like they could have cut the story length in half for bl3 without losing anything. The Eden 6 portion especially drags on. The only parts I like are when you get to interact with Hammerlock/Wainwright in quests. The part of them figuring out that riddle together was so wholesome. Basically just cut out the entire Ambermire and Voracious Canopy sections
I never did finish eden 6. Almost, but just got frustrated with the wizards attacks. I still have bl3 bl2 bl pre-sequ still open, cuz they all are so much fffffunn. Now that xbox has finally download my awesome profiles, its even more enjoyable.
@@MOAON_AABE no I like long dlcs like fight for sanctuary but wonderlands just does everything wrong the dlcs aren’t even long they take 5 min each bl2,3 and pre sequel had amazing long dlcs though wonderlands was just meh especially the end game
*Bank glitch* - status effect chance and damage would show the same for all weapons unless you looked at a non element weapon and then back to an element weapon. Crazy tedious because if you have element weapons surrounded by element weapons, seeing the correct element chance and damage requires pulling the item out. *Skills not working* - There are a few skills on blightcaller that give buffs based on status effects and they last like 2 seconds, so essentially do nothing. There is a graveborn power for bonus dark magic damage on spells and it straight up doesn't work. *Chaos chamber* - I love it but there are many maps, where if you die, you respawn right in front of the boss. you are immune sort of for part of the respawn animation, but you can still have status procs on you, so as SOON as you can take damage, you immediately go down. This essentially means you CANNOT die without failing on certain maps. *Elemental barrels* - I play at chaos 40 (Edit - Now 45) at the moment and I (Without the armor that gives you enormous shield cap) have 26k shields. I dropped to chaos 0 in order to get through the RIP OFF SCAM dlc in order to get the new loot added to chaos. Elemental barrels still do chaos 40 levels of damage NOT TO ENEMIES, but to YOU. These barrels down me in less than 2 seconds. That is with chaos turned OFF and with a NASTY 26k total shield with 3k health. It wouldn't be a problem if the barrels were 1 and done, but they RESET, so you can't get rid of them to be safe. *Update: I have found that Elemental barrels scale through YOUR ELEMENTAL DAMAGE. I play an elemental build blightcaller/stabbo. Why would an explosive barrel scale off of YOU instead of the Enemies. This is ridiculous.* *Blazing volley on blightcaller* - Very fun gun with one severe problem. If you have a crazy elemental damage build, blazing volley at close to mid range will instantly down you for no apparent reason. *DLC* - It's 20 minutes of game-play for 10 dollars which is a straight up scam. Also, there is no minimap in the DLC which is lazy as well as no objective markers. This isn't even a rip off. This is a scam. DLC can stand for anything, but in the case of advertised NEW CONTENT, it was a lie. A proper DLC actually has a story, new maps not just new levels, and new content. The levels were new, but there was no new map to explore, the same boring, unimaginative, and lazy "Kill the boss" objective. Even more obnoxious is that in format it is identical to the chaos chamber but worse in terms of gameplay, objectives and loot. Also there are basically NO NEW ENEMY TYPES. It was a 0 effort cash grab that is a sh$tstain on the otherwise decent record of the company. (B3 was terrible on release). *Music* - while the overworld music is something I can listen to for long periods of time, it is the same tune that repeats what feels like very 12 seconds. The rest of the game music is even worse. It is completely generic, unmemorable, and loops so quickly that it is basically just a phone ringtone. MASSIVELY annoying. (Not including Bones-3-wood's excellent shanty) *guns* - there are numerous archtypes of guns that simply do not do enough damage to work. The x4 elemental crosbolt rifle is a perfect example. I got it the other day at PRIMORDIAL level and it did around 120x4 damage with 8% for 120 dps poison damage. Utterly unusable when compared to my 700 dmg pistol with a 16% chance for 652 dps poison. The pistol is Volatile, which is a rank BELOW the rifle AND it is a purple whilst the rifle is legendary. This applies to rifles in general being unusably weak. This applies to shotguns (with the energy blade ones and swordsposion ones being exceptions). Rocket launchers - with a couple exceptions are garbage and do not have enough ammo - even upgraded to use it more than a few seconds. Snipers = doodoo. *Boss specific loot drop chance* - I like the perceiver as a gun (despite not being very good) and I have farmed the Obelisk in Venomfang Oasis 140 times. I got two perceivers. that is a 1.5% drop chance and at chaos 40, only has a 13% chance of being primordial. This is painful, as the super rare 1.5% very rare boss drop item STILL has a 87% chance to be garbage. *Chaotic, Volatile, Primordial, and ascended gear* THE ENERGY BEAM EFFECTS ALL LOOK THE SAME! I HAVE TO LOOK THROUGH LITERAL MOUNTAINS OF LOOT ITEM BY ITEM IN ORDER TO FIND THE 2-3 PRIMORDIALS OUT OF 60 ITEMS. They could have just added another 4 rarities like Cosmic (Starry sky visual), Celestial (blue-purple shifting) Primordial - (White and gold) and Ascended (red). Would have been 1000x better. *Update - Music* - I saw a comment that said Bl3 had great music and listened to just a few minutes and damn boy that SH1T SLAPS. Phenomenal soundtrack. 10/10. How do you go from that to wonderlands ringtones? Wild to me. *New Comment -The music of BL3 is so good I may start playing again. I played through once a long time ago and I HATED the plot. I got super pissed because at endgame lvl, guns did NO damage and stopped playing. -Is BL3 worth a grind now? I am currently at c45 on wonderlands and am missing 28 dice. I am probably going to have to spend about 5-8 hours finding those dice, but the HUGE boost on completion may really help on farming to complete my build.*
The game is good imo. Still is good. But the issue of why it failed in my opinion is that it was just completely cut off. Like it was supported by gearbox for 3 months. The dlc was horrid. All of these mini dlc together was still shorter than any story expansion And cost 4 times as much. All of them should’ve been released together as one dlc for 10-15 dollars.
@@John-Stark does that mean that everyone including handsome Jack, Roland, the villain from the first game(can't remember her name she was very forgettable), and the vault hunters from the pre-sequel we killed in Bl2 and the Flynt family members we killed in BL1 and 2 Edit:forgot about Maya even though her death is straight bs so I just retcon her death
The lack of dedicated loot sources is also a big one that threw me off about this one. Bl3 had the same issue in the beginning but kiiiind of addressed it. But in wonderlands maybe like 30% of all drops can be farmed in dedicated sources, which you will never do because running chaos chambers is way more time efficient. Pair that with the loot goblets and sorting through like 100 drops every run and you have the tedious crapshoot that is farming up your gear.
people keep saying BL4 like thats a legit possibility but currently both wonderlands and new tales have flopped horribly and its currently all hands on deck for the movie. . . not to be the negative person in the room or anything but the likelihood of a Borderlands 4 is so small that we aren't gonna see it for at least 5 or so years at most and thats IF the movie does well to uphold numbers. . . . wonderlands will always be a novelty at best and a waste of goodwill and potential at worst. but I'm glad I didn't waste my money, just wish they didn't stop fixing BL3's issue for the sake of making more problems.
my issue with the PLC's were you got less content then a head hunter pack and it cost even more. the only one i felt worth getting was the 4th because of the new class it had, the rest wernt worth it, i could get a whole new full game on sale for around that price price of the 10 minute PLC. the saddest part is its a good game over all, just left out what made the other games great
I lost interest 1/2 way thru the chaos chambers, and the dreamveil made me scream in frustration. I actually found most of the dice…didn’t mean any difference of whatever had been offered….ugh. I enjoyed the over world. It was dumb, but a switch from the regular gameplay. I went back to Borderlands goty, Borderlands 2, and now the presequel. Cuz they are fun af. Xbox support is effing atrocious tho. Losing my legendary status profiles was a severe insult for the years i spent building them. Bastards.
The rings and necklaces were pointless. The amount of legendarys was terrible. And what killed it for me the most was one skill tree, ONE SKILL TREE?!?!? I don't care if I can dual class, I want 3 different and unique skill trees
The game itself is alright especially for a game that was put out in 2020. The problem with it is definately a lack of actual post-endgame content, and the balancing for loot drops vs Chaos difficulty. -The Chaos system started off capping out at 20, then boosted to 40 or 50, and only put to 100 due to community demand, which was a poor decision in my opinion. -The DLCs were a neat idea and all but it/they (since the DLCs were more like 4 chapter releases for something like BATIM or Garten of BanBan I think it's fair to call them all ONE DLC) was really just 4 different maps of "complete this BS task list then kill the boss". -Also the lack of good humor due to them wanting a PG-13/T rating for the game didn't help either.
Great points. I think the jump to chaos 100 was the final straw for must of the community. Like they were digging into bad decisions. Thanks for watching have a good one.
My biggest problem with the game is the action skills/classes a couple of them feel samey like the claw hammer and the frost hammer and idk it just doesn’t feel like the different classes really represent different roles to me and the fact that everyone uses spells as grenades is stupid. Why not still have some grenade like options for non magic classes? Oh wait every class is like a caster in this even the big hammer classes… it’s just a big mess of a game. If they could have brought will arnet and this quality of story over to BL3 with those vault hunters this would be the end all be all borderlands game to me but instead it’s another fumble, which is sad to me, because this one is actually not painful to listen to
A couple other things... 1. Screen noise. So many swirling colors, and explosions. So much damage that you had no idea where it was coming from. The game just felt like a psychedelic fever dream at times that I had no control over. 2. Removing Maliwan weapons and not introducing a new manufacturer felt limiting. I imagine they thought the rings and melee weapons would suffice, but not for me.
Gearbox made BL3 Nerferlands. Gearbox went on the right direction with Wonderlands but can't go forward doing the one step forward and two steps method though.
I can't tell you how many weekends I lost grinding Chaos Levels. I'm still only like 62 and just want to get to 75 but after doing two in a row each time I get sick of it. The rest is gonna be a slog and by then I might just have everything I wanted anyway
Tina's feels like Skull and Bones tbh, a much loved feature/idea turned into a standalone game. Both have failed (even if Ubi keeps rebooting S&B) because there's not enough there for a full game, it's similar to how MMOs waste your time with chores and completionist activities/achievements tied to player power so you don't realise outside of a couple of limited activities there's nothing to do at endgame.
I agree with most of the points in this video. Personally I loved the overworld and enjoying completing it in each play through, as well as the story which I had no issues running through again. Although a lot of overworld shrines are basically chaos chambers which gets repetitive in you 4th play through. The UI especially in the bank is broken. I don’t like how in EVERY play through you have to collect all poems marbles etc to get bonuses, you should just do it once like with the dice then it applies to all characters u have. The dice are cool but I don’t like how there’s no map icons for them and it’s hard to know what u do and don’t have plus in play throughs without dice u literally are lucky to find one legendary in the whole story. I don’t like how you often have to grind extra levels after playthroughs to get max level to access your gear and tackle chaos chambers. The chambers are great I loved them and I like how the dlc adds on to them. However most of the time you are either grinding chaos levels or the features runs which have no access to the plc rooms or bosses so you hardly see them. Chaos levels are a grind you should only have to do on one character and it takes SO long. Losing a chaos run is so rage inducing especially the dlc bosses who have mechanics that you HAVE to learn to not instantly die but there’s no easy way to grind the dlc bosses and get used to them. The dlc in general while it got better with each mirror was a joke. The first dlc was laughably bad and an embarassment for the franchise. Chambers being the only post game content really grows old. The bunnies are cool however things like class mods are almost impossible to grind for with so many class combinations, also even at chaos 50 it drops so much non chaotic useless loot that it often doesn’t feel worth the grind. I like how the attention was taken away from boss farming because load times for newer games are so bad sometimes and it becomes such a chore however I’d rather that sometimes than mindlessly sinking hundreds of thousands of crystals into the same bunny to get nothing I want. In all I love wonderlands and it gave me much enjoyment for a few months, lessons were learned in this game that I know will improve what we eventually get in BL4. Wonderlands has a place in my heart and I think the community just had way too high hopes for essentially a spin off game which I personally didn’t. I love the base game, I despise the plc.
I was a huge Borderlands fan back and pre-ordered every BL game up until Wonderlands. I only recently purchased it once it got discounted enough and am currently playing it on PS5 and am at a level around 18. No Legendaries yet which is a bit annoying, but there may have been too many Legendaries in the past. I actually like this game and feel it's pretty well polished. Yes, the characters as well as classes feel more forgettable, but hey... Adam Sandberg! I will say that I almost never die compared to the others. Overall, I think it's fun, although not as addicting as previous ones.
im really glad you like it. i noticed that in this game the purples are actually very, very strong. also, any of the Dahl SMGs with the Cryo barrel are super OP (they shoot 6 pellets at a time).
So my biggest issue as a dedicated hardcore fan of the Borderlands series was the hotfixes. Not because they were delayed or didn't deal with bugs I was experiencing (though yeah some abilities and weapons weren't usable for a long time because they simply did not work). My issue was that you would spend all week farming certain equipment loadouts for a build and once you had it exactly perfect they would nerf every single weapon, class mod, skill, etc. that made that build viable. Just week after week they were nerfing anything and everything that was even kind of powerful. And this was in the two months after launch. It just felt like they were playing whackamole with my fun in the game. Why are you so scared of something being overpowered or broken in a single player game? Any time I started to enjoy a build they made it completely useless. It really felt like the developers were at odds with the players rather than buggy exploits that were problematic for the game. If your game is so buggy that you need to spend months hotfixing it so that it feels like characters swinging whiffle ball bats at ogres like you intended, then why did I pay full price to be a QA tester? I want some backpay from Gearbox.
great points here. i was never a theory crafter or massive farmer so it never hit me as hard as some of my friends. i was also not happy with the weapon selection. the meta was set within a month or so and it was only a handful of pistols and SMGs basically. fingers crossed for BL4 tho
The video remarks that the overworld map felt like it belonged in a different game, but Tina's Wonderlands is that different game. It's not a mainline Borderlands, but rather a spin off that uses more RPG tropes, one of which was having an overworld map. I wonder how many of peoples' issues with the world map are actually more to do with things like dice hunting or side quests that had too much running back and forth and the world map just gets dunked on for being the place that a chunk of this kind of "content" happened? Personally I liked the world map overall, but sometimes I resented having to run back and forth across it for fetch/kill quests or having to travel to a overly remote location to grab a die that was behind a metroidvania style door that I just learned how to open.
Great point. I think I might have mentioned I never played DnD but can't remember now, so there's probably a lot that was lost on me. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it
Im pretty sure the reason they didn't add another rarity is due to a weird codding mess with weapon manufacturers from borderlands 3 Which is why they added rings and melee but removed two weapon manufacturers of maliwan and atlas It had something to do working on old gens consoles
Honestly, the character creator was my biggest letdown. If they could just have nailed it and given a lot of non-human and anthro options, I could have had fun with the game in spite of its flaws. Saddly, your character's face, no matter how much you warp it, is confined to being a variation of the human face. No matter how weird or ugly you make it, it's always gonna look like a deformed human. No anthro options whatsoever.
If anyone is desperate for Bunkers and Badasses, or Tiny Tina...then Assault on Dragons Keep is still fucking epic. They eveb released a stand alone version of that DLC called Tiny Tinas Wonderlands One Shot Adventure. Its literally just the Assault on Dragon Keep DLC but as a totally seperate experinece not connected to Borderlands 2. It has a few new heads and new missions that arent in Borderlands 2 as well. Basically its a better version of Wonderlands while still being the OG Tiny Tina story.
For the PC players out there, the fanmade REDUX Mod is out for this game. It makes some awesome changes to the experience and probably is the best update this game ever had.
Borderlands keeps trying to overcomplicate the loot. Part of what made bl2 so fun in the end game is because for most classes you really just needed a good prefix sure you could try for a perfectly parted weapon but that's never really required
This game was the best borderlands I ever played who ever was hating was just plain missing out point shoot level up and loot with out that bullshit over drawn traveling that came with the first 4 games plus better mele and projectile options ? YOU MISSED OUT !!!
Also absolutely nothing from Wonderlands shows up in the Bunkers & Badasses tabletop RPG. I bought it and while I was reading through it I was immediately disappointed, especially since no addons or expansion books ever were made. Feels like everything promoting this game was half-assed
An added disappointment is how the dice were handled a couple weeks after launch. Instead of collecting the die for each character, it was changed to be account wide so that you'd only have to find each die once. This is a great idea except when you play coop. It forces the other player to match the die you've picked up. Since I completed the dice, now others who have joined my game have their dice complete. It's really disappointing for those people when an entire loot mechanic is taken away for good simply cause they wanted to play Coop. A solution should be to add a toggle for the die to turn them off or on for each character once they have all been collected.
couldn't agree more on the dice, let me choose. I can see how it can be tedious to collect them on each character if what you are after is the end game gear. but tying it to account rather than character, for me, removes the joy of seeing what drops in the rain of gear as I collect each one. I was rather disappointed when I started my second character to find that the dice I found on the first where not there. And as for the DLC.... had I known that they were essentially add-ons for the chaos chamber, or that said chamber was all of the end game content. I never would have paid for the year one pass.
Liked. This video is well written and well organized. Your footage is relevant and your points are well made. If I may offer some constructive criticism: I suggest putting more attention to your voiceover, particularly cadence and enunciation. Right now, it’s hampering a strong message. I share that opinion with the best of intentions. Thank you for the high-effort content.
Thank you very much for the kind words and I agree, the voice over part is still tough for me. Hard trying to find my voice and cadence. Since I made this I've adjusted my eq and started standing while recording which helps a bit. Glad you still enjoyed the video and appreciate you taking time to leave the constructive feedback.
The PLC you're describing for it sounds almost exactly like the DLC fluster cluck no new NPCs just ghost of old ones no new mechanics are futures running through portals to get two small enclosed linear areas and we love facing similar to the vaultahalla where the whole point of running the DLC was just to loot that room loaded with chest or with abysmal drop rates that was the a cash grab that probably only sold as well as it did cuz people were stuck at home during a pandemic that felt like a predatory cash grab at this time people are communicating less see each other less so the news about it being garbage wouldn't spread untill people already bought
Idk what people are mad about cause risk of rain 2 players probably only see what happened to that game but now to the 1 franchise gearbox “cares about”
So. I appreciate your dissection of this. I've got a question for y'all. Do you think this would've been better wrapped into BL3 as a 'separate instance' dlc, like in RDR1 undead nightmare or fallout 3 new Vegas as a massive reskin and overhaul? Or are you glad it made it into it's own game to much more clearly delineate what worked and what didn't?
Feels like that's what they designed it to be, but got greedy and decided to charge full price. The campaign was good but felt short, 4 zones had the B3 DLC quest icons in them and the mirrors feel like the free events from Borderlands 3. I don't mind it being it's own game but it definitely needed more content and be a bit longer to justify selling it at full price.
Wonderlands was honestly my 2nd favorite borderlands (behind borderlands 2). End game has never been my main focus in these games, as I more like running through the story and trying the different classes and wonderlands made that so much more varied and easier to do with the double class system. Gorgeous visuals, great story, fun one liners, and amazing gunplay. Yeah, the endgame definitely sucked and the constant nerfs were silly but the game was great.
Seems like Gbox purposefully puts out lackluster dlc to keep their games from outlasting whatever their new game is, examples: BLTPS DLC, BL3 Season 2, Wonderlands DLC
Good work on the review. Very fair on all points you raised. I played this game and whilst it was exciting at first, it didn't hold a candle to 2, which is what a lot of people wanted. Hopefully 4 will come out and be one that lasts for a long, long time.
TY for watching and commenting. glad you liked it. im very optimistic BL4 will be a masterpiece due to all the experience gearbox has acquired over the last decade.
Tiny Tina is just a bit too problematic to be the main focus of a main AAA franchise. Her playing D&D? Ok. Her having an adult story arc? She's like 12, and nah, it's not a good look.
My biggest issue with Wonderlands is how the end-game falls into the worst kind of end-game a RPG can fall into, which only Borderlands 3 had (to a way lesser extent) in the franchise. I'm talking about the overly Min-Maxing style of building. Where you need the right completely 5 pieces of gear, with the right enchantment, which increase in price exponentially. I think back on The Pre Sequel and all you needed was to learn how your character plays, get the (admitedly few) good guns that fit their style and you'd do well. You didn't need to abuse a bunch of hidden mechanics because they were the only damages with absurd scaling. (Like Pixies, for instance.) The class mods had fixed stats and all of them clearly stated the ways a character is meant to be played. You were as reliant on your loot as you were on your knowledge of your character and ability to play it's roles. Also, this game adds melee weapons, but you can't hold them, there's enemied that are anti-melee, melee damage in general isn't very good unless you're holding a gun or using one specific skill that scales absurdly and a lot of times you're better off using melee weapons that deal other types of damage or a gun that shoots melee. That's not what melee is, gearbox. Thing is, Gearbox solved this issue back with Krieg. The build diversity for end game is super limited, at the end of the game. All builds are forced to flock into a few mechanics, otherwise they just don't deal damage. And grinding and farming for loot is especially bad in this game due to the rng min-maxing thing I mentioned. There's more issues but these two are what killed the game for me (as well as the honestly atrocious DLC which I only bothered with for the cosmetics until I realised how rare they are and how bad the wheel of fortune is in terms of drops)
Borderlands 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I still play it. The art style is awesome and it's nice having a FPS that is fun even single player but the main sell of the game is definitely the insane dialogue and phrases. Tina's Wonderlands is one of the cringiest pieces of shit I have ever played. I got about 5 hours in and had to stop it was too annoying.
I kinda felt like wonderlands should have just been a borderlands 3 dlc probably would have been treated better and more of the bugs and issues in bl3 that were left over probably would have been fixed or at lest hopefully addressed
or at least hav eit priced like a spinoff right. like i think at $40, there wouldnt have been so much backlash but at full price, that will get people salty.
I played Wonderlands a LOT, but I couldn't 100% achievement the game, just because they were really painful. I enjoyed the story telling, but the guns had no niche, there were obvious VERY GOOD guns.
My biggest pet peeve with the game was that in the endgame you had basically no map. It was just a blank canvas with red dots giving you very vague directions of enemies. Adding that onto the fact that it was either one-shot everything or get one shot just did not make it enjoyable in my opinion. I just think the devs wanted the game to be big so badly but jumped of off the sinking ship a month after launch. The fact that they to this day have not fixed Shift-Code Weapons (with them also being some random purple gun) delivering on the right level is the nail to the coffin
Time for gearbox to just remaster bl2 if they can put bl3 gameplay mechanics as well like sliding vaulting it be awsome. Bl2 will forever be my favorite game even if the borderlands series goes downhill
I put this game away when that game reset bug hit me. Up to that point I was already getting bored with the endgame and the disappointment of the "plc". That bug was the final nail in the coffin for me.
I got fed up with the end game grind, playing on the highest difficulty getting the same gear drops that I could be getting on the easiest level of difficulty. While dealing with multiple layers of rng was not fun. I didn't care for the anointments in Borderlands 3 rerolling was a pain when you kept getting the same anoints on re-rolls.
i bought it and honestly gave up within 2 months, it was just plain boring. it's sad that a game that is now 11 years old, has a higher player base still i bet.
I dropped this game when that stupid knight appeared right at the beginning. I thought that voice actor was annoying enough in bl3 but she went into hyperdrive annoying right there and i pretty much figured i would take the 40 dollar loss and call it a day.
Wonderlands did one thing unforgivable though: the normal guns were mostly not great and the legendries mostly sucked with only a couple notable exceptions. Blue and purple uniques were always good in the franchise and wonderlands was mostly no exception but the legendries always slapped before and were worth grinding for but in wonderlands? Nope, most of them were terrible. Combine that with a severe lack of endgame and you get a borderlands title you play through once or twice then never again (oh and the water enables friendly fire/ self-damages you when you slide).
I'm starting to see a pattern in this game franchise. They release a great game, then they overhype a spin off only to realease it in a mediocre state and give it way less attention than they gave to the numbered game (BL1, 2 and 3). It happened with Pre-sequel, Wonderlands and now with New Tales.
@@AdamSmasherReal gameplay is fire in general, they got that right. The story is trash, and its sheer length is enough to kill the replayability, but it's not a bad game.
I haven’t bought any new Borderlands content since the Pre-Sequel. BL3 and TTW look good, and BL3 plays good, but I weight the story a bit more than the end game and that’s where the newer games fail.
me and a friend started this game recently and after playing bl3 for 2 weeks straight to complete it we gave up on TTW after just a few hours which says alot
Wonderland is the most disappointing you cant be remotely serious. 3 was an assassination of the franchise destroyi g 10 years of legacy with easily the worst writing outta any of the games. You expected too much if you expected a spinoff game to function at the same level as thw mainline games. It achieved what it needed to achieve was it the best no was it the worst not even close. But I can say i actually enjoyed the game which I can't say about 3. I tried but 3 was the biggest heap of garbage and slap to the face I had received in a very long time.
i agree my expectations were too high as stated in the video. i loved 3 and hated WL so we obviously are looking for different things in the same franchise. thanks for watching, hope BL4 is better for everyone.
Bl3 is not amazing. Horrible story, terrible character direction, piss poor weapon/item balance and severe lack of a proper good end game. In order for a bl4 to be amazing they need to go back ro Bl1-2 era with maybe a couple of the random game mechanics from other titles. Hell prolly just straight retcon bl3 and the other titles lmao
That's great. Yeah I just picked it up for steam recently and have about 250 hours now. It's turned into a great experience for me overall, I'm glad you're enjoying it too
totally fair point. what do you think about it in regards to people that paid full price? it burns a little more lol. think of how far cry new dawn was a huge DLC but was priced accordingly. just a thought. thanks for watching
@@AncientPangolinGaming yeah I agree that the content it came with ( after DLC) should have all been main game release with more detailed dlc at a later date , I'm just a loyal fan to the Borderlands franchise so I'll happy take what I get but I fully understand why people felt let down
The issue with that is it was made to have more replay. Like b3. The movement and the story being shorter with the way it played really reduced the speed of completion. B2 took longer and just felt better. The DLC for it was awesome. Presequal was hated by a lot but it was a good example of a good longer lasting game with replayability and I feel closely resembles B2 for the length and replayability. B3 was great but the overwhelming amount of "rare" loot was just insane and felt unrewarding. The speed of flying through the game was insane. It felt like it was missing the greatness. The story also wasn't the best.
it still doesnt run on my xbox series s properly, it is horribly optimized and the graphics look worse than Borderlands 2 What a complete failure of a game

@@lurch789 really? it had way too much content (even as bare as it was) to be considered for a DLC, that might be a bit drastic. if you hated the game thats fair but if it were a DLC priced as a DLC i dont think many people would have complained as much. thats just my opinion though.
wonderlands is an excellent game, just like the pre-sequel, with its main flaw of no real end-game content and very few dedicated loot farms. this just makes it enjoyable for 1 or 2 playthroughs and that's it. very different than bl2 and bl3. i was disappointed myself with the end-game but hopefully they create proper DLCs in the future, or just have bl4 come to sooner than expected.
thats actually a pretty good point. im hoping it just fast tracks BL4. thanks for watching
Nope. Wonderlands didn't even have a real world/map. Everything was arena based so they didn't have to do actual environments.
Bl4 sooner than expected ? Pls think about it. Its better when it comes later and we have a better game then.
We need a remastered Original Borderlands with all the updates to abilities and gun play. The Original vault hunters deserve their day in the sun again.
That would be sick. I played through Bl1 once but the gunplay and everything felt heavy. I would love to see it updated with the new feel of Bl3
I disagree, the original was great in its own way and should stay untouched each Borderlands game has their own strengths and weakness’s and by keeping them the way they are it allows us to go back and forth on the games
If borderlands 1 were to be remade, they would nerf the gun system, [You can have any part from any gun]
You might get A missile launching automatic shotgun or you might get a 6 Round LMG with bouncing bullets.
DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TIMES ME AND MY FRIEND HAVE SAID THIS!!!!
original borderlands did get a remaster when bl3 came out
So TBF...i have recently gone back to this game. MOST of everything i stated is still here but for some reason i am getting into the game. expect an update to this at some point, i may have been a bit too harsh on the game and really had gearbox's response/actions during its lifetime is what bothered me the most. very interesting place to be in. stay tuned
Script for new video is done. We record tomorrow
Yeah I agree with you on that. You were a bit too harsh, I think like 50-60% of bad you said actually doesn't matter (IMO).
The twins ruined 3 for me. Coming off of Jack, it was a major downgrade in terms of villain design.
Agreed. They could've been somewhat redeemed with a few tweaks maybe but overall super disappointing.
@@zac.m1003 That's so damn true.
I haven't really liked a single Borderlands game since the first one but this game takes the fucking cake for Gearbox's ineptness.
it sounds like you dont like the games but at least you try them out. hopefully youll find something you like in BL4 if you try it out
There is 1 part of Wonderlands I really liked because of how it reflects on Dragon's Keep.
Never thought of it that way. Hmm
The point you made about your shield breaking at the end of each chaos chamber round was so on point. I never got used to that either
Haha glad it wasn't just me
On the PC side of it.
@@strafer3459 Never can tell with that guy.
"Felt like a cash grab."
Because it was.
But what do i know lol?
totally agree. the weak "DLC" and lack of dev support really turned me off from this game. thanks for watching hope 2023 is a great year for you.
Now that xbox has finally download my awesome profiles, its even more enjoyable.
agreed. i think its so much filler its blatent. like...why gearbox, why.....
I love ridiculously long borderlands stories and dlc's. The longer the better imo.
Hell no please no more fetch quests and random stuff blocking your path or create bigger more interesting bosses throughout like borderlands 3

This is ridiculous.*
*Blazing volley on blightcaller* - Very fun gun with one severe problem.
(Not including Bones-3-wood's excellent shanty)
*guns* - there are numerous archtypes of guns that simply do not do enough damage to work.
I am probably going to have to spend about 5-8 hours finding those dice, but the HUGE boost on completion may really help on farming to complete my build.*
yiisssss
This game just fumbled so much after the story and post launch man you hated you to see it
Agreed. My problems with the game is that you can't replay it with the same character and it is not made for same screen co-op.
I played through it with my wife but it was rough lol
Runs smoothly on co-op at 60 fps on series x
@@darkfantasy2163 I meant that it's extremely difficult to see item in your inventory on co-op due to having to share the screen
Definitely a good point
I was excited about this game for about 4 seconds then completely forgot about it. I cant believe this exists and i didnt even know
For BL4 I hope they learned from BL3 and this. maybe allowing us to make our vault hunter and be able to be mentored under previous vault hunters

@@John-Stark does that mean that everyone including handsome Jack, Roland, the villain from the first game(can't remember her name she was very forgettable), and the vault hunters from the pre-sequel we killed in Bl2 and the Flynt family members we killed in BL1 and 2

@@claiminghawk honestly hope Sledge will comeback as well
The lack of dedicated loot sources is also a big one that threw me off about this one. Bl3 had the same issue in the beginning but kiiiind of addressed it. But in wonderlands maybe like 30% of all drops can be farmed in dedicated sources, which you will never do because running chaos chambers is way more time efficient. Pair that with the loot goblets and sorting through like 100 drops every run and you have the tedious crapshoot that is farming up your gear.
people keep saying BL4 like thats a legit possibility but currently both wonderlands and new tales have flopped horribly and its currently all hands on deck for the movie. . .
not to be the negative person in the room or anything but the likelihood of a Borderlands 4 is so small that we aren't gonna see it for at least 5 or so years at most and thats IF the movie does well to uphold numbers. . . .
wonderlands will always be a novelty at best and a waste of goodwill and potential at worst.
but I'm glad I didn't waste my money, just wish they didn't stop fixing BL3's issue for the sake of making more problems.
my issue with the PLC's were you got less content then a head hunter pack and it cost even more. the only one i felt worth getting was the 4th because of the new class it had, the rest wernt worth it, i could get a whole new full game on sale for around that price price of the 10 minute PLC. the saddest part is its a good game over all, just left out what made the other games great
Developers rushed this game and milked their fans goodwill. Borderlands 4 will be a slow burn.
You know the games shit when people start comparing it to BL3 and actually praising BL3
TT'sW is to the Borderlands franchise as Fallout 76 is to the Fallout franchise, innit?
My biggest problem with the game is the action skills/classes a couple of them feel samey like the claw hammer and the frost hammer and idk it just doesn’t feel like the different classes really represent different roles to me and the fact that everyone uses spells as grenades is stupid. Why not still have some grenade like options for non magic classes? Oh wait every class is like a caster in this even the big hammer classes… it’s just a big mess of a game. If they could have brought will arnet and this quality of story over to BL3 with those vault hunters this would be the end all be all borderlands game to me but instead it’s another fumble, which is sad to me, because this one is actually not painful to listen to
Yeah good points. Hopefully if there is a sequel they'll actually listen to fans a little bit
Yesssss
Gearbox made BL3 Nerferlands. Gearbox went on the right direction with Wonderlands but can't go forward doing the one step forward and two steps method though.
I can't tell you how many weekends I lost grinding Chaos Levels. I'm still only like 62 and just want to get to 75 but after doing two in a row each time I get sick of it. The rest is gonna be a slog and by then I might just have everything I wanted anyway
I promised myself no more Borderlands purchases until they give us mid and endgame dlc for pre-sequel. I'm still waiting...
yeah thatll never happen without mods. maybe try a game when theyre on game pass or dirt cheap?
As someone who’s been invested in this franchise for a decade, this game blows.
@@AncientPangolinGaming Good to know, thanks!
The good.... Overall story and gameplay
The bad... No TVHM or Gameplus mode
The ugly.... Chaos chamber as only endgame
Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it
Im pretty sure the reason they didn't add another rarity is due to a weird codding mess with weapon manufacturers from borderlands 3
Which is why they added rings and melee but removed two weapon manufacturers of maliwan and atlas
It had something to do working on old gens consoles
I hadn't heard that but coding is basically magic to me so I'll go with it
Hey man, thanks for a solid video for me to watch while I eat my pizza rolls
Pizza rolls shred! Thanks for watching
We will never get something as wild as kreigs dlc or claptrap voyage again 😢
Part of what made bl2 so fun in the end game is because for most classes you really just needed a good prefix sure you could try for a perfectly parted weapon but that's never really required
yessss. well said
This game was the best borderlands I ever played who ever was hating was just plain missing out point shoot level up and loot with out that bullshit over drawn traveling that came with the first 4 games plus better mele and projectile options ? YOU MISSED OUT !!!
Also absolutely nothing from Wonderlands shows up in the Bunkers & Badasses tabletop RPG. I bought it and while I was reading through it I was immediately disappointed, especially since no addons or expansion books ever were made. Feels like everything promoting this game was half-assed
I can see this
An added disappointment is how the dice were handled a couple weeks after launch.
I’m gonna say it again and I will die on this hill, Tiny Tina is cool, she didn’t deserve an entire game. Should’ve been a DLC for BL3
I had a good time playing it, I like that legendaries where rare again unlike BL3
Before endgame*** made me feel excitement when I saw that yellow. I stopped playing after the main campaign feeling good
Bl3 by a mile had the dopest soundtrack…that and doom games are my favorite soundtrack games of all time
It was so good
The PLC you're describing for it sounds almost exactly like the DLC fluster cluck no new NPCs just ghost of old ones no new mechanics are futures running through portals to get two small enclosed linear areas and we love facing similar to the vaultahalla where the whole point of running the DLC was just to loot that room loaded with chest or with abysmal drop rates that was the a cash grab that probably only sold as well as it did cuz people were stuck at home during a pandemic that felt like a predatory cash grab at this time people are communicating less see each other less so the news about it being garbage wouldn't spread untill people already bought
Yes definitely give it a 30$ price tag so no ones expectations would be so high or even 45$
Feels like that's what they designed it to be, but got greedy and decided to charge full price.
Now there is Chaos 100.
I know. That last update was a the kiss of death for this game. Thanks for watching.
Tiny Tina is just a bit too problematic to be the main focus of a main AAA franchise. Her playing D&D? Ok.
Her having an adult story arc? She's like 12, and nah, it's not a good look.
One thing I gotta say is this game is better played on mute. Every character is so goddamn annoying and they never shut up, ever.
(Like Pixies, for instance.)
The class mods had fixed stats and all of them clearly stated the ways a character is meant to be played.
4 words.
No True Vault Hunter.
I uninstalled after beating it. First time in 4 games, and over a decade. Wont buy the next one.
Yes great point I wish I had mentioned that. A game like this really needs the mini map and having RNG levels means no set maps. Really frustrating
I didn't care for the anointments in Borderlands 3 rerolling was a pain when you kept getting the same anoints on re-rolls.
i agree with most things other than BL3 being good, mechanics are fine but i hate the writing and most of the characters in that game to my core
Yeah the writing was trash for sure
i bought it and honestly gave up within 2 months, it was just plain boring. it's sad that a game that is now 11 years old, has a higher player base still i bet.
My thing is the melee fells clunky and unresponsive I like the melee but I can't bring myself to use it
I feel that
I dropped this game when that stupid knight appeared right at the beginning.
The only thing I found off was the art style. I feel like they took away that comic book/cell shaded style too much.
I kinda agree with you now that you bring that up. Yeah good call
@@AncientPangolinGaming Yeah. The image at around 1:03 really shows a lack of depth in the art compared to other BL games.
Weird he didn't mention the secret bosses and the tiny Tina mega boss fight
He did mention the secret bosses
Enjoyed the game but end game content was garbage so I quit.
The advertising commercials made it look extremely annoying and I had 0 desire to play.
Bl3 sucks though
@@AdamSmasherReal gameplay is fire in general, they got that right. The story is trash, and its sheer length is enough to kill the replayability, but it's not a bad game.
Y’all overhype things lol then get mad when it’s not up to how much you hyped it up
I haven’t bought any new Borderlands content since the Pre-Sequel. BL3 and TTW look good, and BL3 plays good, but I weight the story a bit more than the end game and that’s where the newer games fail.
Hmmm, today, we're gonna release a prequel!
Also, it's in-universe fiction!
On top of the end game allegedly sucking.
me and a friend started this game recently and after playing bl3 for 2 weeks straight to complete it
we gave up on TTW after just a few hours
which says alot
I can totally empathise lol
honestly really disliked this game. I just couldnt enjoy it. I hated the story, and the classes.
I saw a wonderlands treasure trove box at GameStop for literally *90% off* bro it was so damn cheap
I'm really looking forward to the day when wonderlands is free on Epic.
I will not pay for it though.
Not after the BL3 DLCs.
Got it for £14.99 so far what a great game, I like the Overworld
That's great. Yeah I just picked it up for steam recently and have about 250 hours now. It's turned into a great experience for me overall, I'm glad you're enjoying it too
I don't think i failed i think it's just a shorter game less Replay compared to the others
totally fair point. what do you think about it in regards to people that paid full price? it burns a little more lol. think of how far cry new dawn was a huge DLC but was priced accordingly. just a thought. thanks for watching
Spot on, I stopped playing after the plcs didnt improve, we should not tolerate that from any game.
Solid video, great job on this
TY for the kinda words, sorry i missed this comment. appreciate you watching
it still doesnt run on my xbox series s properly, it is horribly optimized and the graphics look worse than Borderlands 2
What a complete failure of a game
Game is amazing
Seriously one of the best games ever
Dlc was poop
My only problem. With it is sorting loot
You should play other games
