As far as I’m concerned this story is one of, if not DC’s greatest crossover. This series came out when I was in high school and I remember being so excited when each issue came out. I was always a big fan of the Earth 1 and Earth 2 crossovers, so this was definitely in my wheelhouse. I’ve got everything Crisis related....softcover, hardcover, floppies, novel, toys, absolute.....so you know I had to order this!! Thanks for the review. You’ve got me even more excited for my shipment from In Stock Trades.
It's just lots and lots of heroes and villains doing pretty much the same thing for a year. The story could have easily been told in six issues. Most of the crossover books had stories that were D+ at best.
Awesome and in depth overview! This would have been a no brainer if they went for the oversized hardcover route but they had to follow Marvel with their dimensions on massive box sets.
The wraparound art is actually new art work from Nicola Scott and Jerry Ordway. The panel on the back is the only George Perez art from the original issue #1 of the maxi-series. I started collecting as a teen in the mid 90s, loved all things DC, and had to find this series and see what Earth 2 and the multiverse was all about. This series hooked me on DC for life. The box set is pricey but well worth it IMO. I had to have it as I have every edition DC has ever released. It's awesome and I'm glad I could add it to the Avengers, Infinity Gauntlet, and Secret Wars boxed sets I already have. I hope DC does more box sets like Marvel as these are great showpieces and an awesome way to have amazing runs in one beautiful package. Thanks for the review GemMint; your channel is what really got me into the hardcovers, Deluxes, Absolutes, Omnibuses, and boxed sets.
Nice review. I still have the 5'+ wide Ross/Perez poster, just don't have the real estate to put the thing up, ha. Years ago at a convention in Chicago they had some of Ross' original paintings on display in a room off of the convention floor and seeing that Crisis painting up close and in person was really something.
@@Puddin_Tame Thanks! I suppose that's all I'll need. I can get the pre-Crisis stuff in the JLA omnibuses, which will probably be cheaper in the long run. This set is tempting though, since it's on Instocktrades for $250.
Love the presentation and the collection, but wasn't a big fan of the story itself, though I do agree it was and is an important part of DC comics history. Thanks for the overview!
I got the Deluxe Edition - I enjoyed it but, it was really wordy. Don't know if I could do all the tie-ins. Great video, it was great seeing all the tie-in.
Once again Gem delivers a great video! But man I’m really considering buying this but at the same time I feel like I should get a few omnis for a similar price instead...
I think it's a good story and artwork, but when I read the Crisis for the first time it was confusing, because I didn't know anything about the DC universe at all. But when I dug deeper, and re-read it a second and third time, it was entertaining. This box looks great, it has it's benefits, I think I just don't care about the prequel stuff. It's a shame that this comes out the same time as the three OHC Companions, because it's a huge double dip. Enjoyed the video, stay minty fresh as well!
Great video. Thanks for the thorough overview and review. Agree that it’s a bit of bummer there’s no OHC’s, but the overall content is very impressive. I was also thinking “Flash of Two Worlds” would be appropriate since that’s where the multiverse was originally introduced. Crisis is the gold standard for events and was fantastic. It’s aged a bit, but what in entertainment hasn’t over the last 35 years.
Great overview Gem! Don’t think I’ll be buying this though, think I’ll stick to my deluxe edition that I got George Pérez to sign and then buy the 3 oversized companion books
Fuck. Three arcade cabinets just appeared at the house sometime over the course of the last month or two. No big deal. LOL TH-cam must be very good to your family! GAH BLESS
The Crisis On Infinite Earths Companion volumes (1-3) are oversized deluxe hardcovers at about $40/each. Wouldn't that be a better buy w/ the Crisis Deluxe HC? Even at $300 for this box set on IST, it's way too expensive. What do you think?
i havent looked at how much more content is provided here...but yea DC does stuff like this all the time. Best to research like you did and determine whats the best route to go. The box is cool as hell though
I wanted to see what boxed sets were going to be like, so interesting video, but yeah, $500 is a bit much for me. Think omnibuses are as expensive as I want to go.
Hey man, great video.Got couple of questions. Though. Which issues do "Crisis on multiple earths" collect? And if I read all those, (and all the COIE issues) will I understand everything? Thanks in advance
Thanks for the review i really feel like this series is underwhelming kinda like how marvel is now a EVENT just so they can change things to sell more books nothing really jumped out at me at all ,dont know if u plan on reading all of jt but let us know
Man great detailed review. That's a cool collection. Love the old school style of art. It's amazing how the art works evolved. You're a walking comic wikipedia lol.
Does anyone know if there are any plans to release any of the individual books separately? I'm only interested in The All Star Squadron and Infinity issues. Plus I had most of mine professionally bound, so I just want it for the nice white paper reprinting.
The tbh the only things that interested me outta the whole box set was some of the prequel matieral which I thought was pretty nice, the main storyline, one of the post books, and the behind the scenes book. In short, imma pass on it lmao. But the boxset does look nice tho 👀👀.
4:25 still the injustice league up to the 100 issue. it’s not injustice league it’s justice league of America or justice league, injustice is way new than the crisis on multiverses earths
He said "Still IN Justice League". He wasn't referring to the injustice series. It was pretty clear to me . He definitely knows that the injustice series didn't appear at that time ... come on
Thanks so much for reviewing this! If you don’t mind me asking, where did you purchase this set? I want to get it myself, but I want to be sure whoever I buy it from will pack it extremely well so that it doesn’t arrive damaged.
From your experience, how long does it take for a product like this to go out of print ? I would buy this instantly right now if I could but I can't . So I'm wondering if I'll still find this later in 6-12 months.
well so far only Marvel has been producing these...Civil War and Secret Wars sold out and started selling for retail...When the Infinity Gauntlet set sold out, they made a reprint. So my guess is...if the set is super popular, itll get a reprint and will stay discounted...if it doesnt sell that well...and eventually goes out of print, it could become more expensive
Outside a pretty looking box, there's really not much to offer unless you are a long time hardcore DC reader. It's a pass for me, but it's a good review of it from you, bro.
I already have a COIE as a hardcover, Tpb and the old single issues, this is nice for the diehard collector but to me it's not essential to read every single book to understand the main Crisis story, you can practically read summaries of the rest online.
Since DC is copying Marvel, shouldn’t they include a cloth poster or some other bonus item for such sets? Also, which mapping is better, the Crisis Crossover OHCs or the character-centric books in that boxed set?
Hey, I'm not gonna lie--I'm a Marvel guy but the best part about DC for me was all the multiple earths. I loved that stuff. But hey, the cats at DC were probably saying: "Yeah, you love our stuff but all the books you're dropping money on are Marvel. Beat, it kid."
The main story is really slow in the first half, then really picks up in the 2nd. The other stuff isn’t essential reading, and the silver age stuff is soooooo wordy

I am working on a set like this with custom bound volume of KnightSaga.

Thank you for buying it bro now I can decide to buy it too
I might have to pick this up along with the Infinity Gauntlet one. Especially since I haven't read Crisis yet. Gem coming in clutch like always
Great edition! I didn’t know of its existence! It is awesome and a way to own the knowledge of the entire Crisis concept’s origin. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the overview! I'm sticking with my Absolute and the 3 oversize companion volumes.
Do the 3 companions collect all of the stuff included in these extra volumes?

Epic and will be out of print soon, FOMO
Box artwork is by Nicola Scott not George Perez. George retired so they asked Nicola to homage his work. Great review through. Thanks.
