I love how you have Jean learning how to control and use her powers as a student in the first couple issues of silver age x-men then when you get to bronze age stuff she is the phoenix, a bonafide badass, shredding through everything. Now that's some top notch character develooment right there lol. Beautiful boxset btw where Kirby's, Adams', Cockrum's, and Bryne's amazing art are all displayed magnificently 🔥🔥🔥

Amazing set! So glad I preordered this after watching your “What’s in the set..” video a few months back. David Gabriel- If you read this please know that samples sent to NMC are money well spent! This is easily my favorite comic book channel. If its an X-Men related book and Omar says its worth buying, I am pretty much gonna buy it. :)

Dude, l saw this video and passed on it because l figured, oh here is another video of people just going over X-Men. Once l sat down and started watching l heard something that I've missed for years...Excitement! I was sitting with baited breath as you opened up each book. I felt the happiness, the appreciation, and the love of a comic that l have been obsessed with since l was 6 years old. While others where losing there minds to Batman and so in I was captivated by the artwork and writing of the X-Men. Thank you so much for taking the time to bring that feelings of my childhood. Keep up the good work!

Nice Box Set. I'll need to save pennies and make shelf space. I wrote an aritcle on the X-MEN reprint issues that was published in BACK ISSUE #86 in 2016. It was fun researching that.

I’m just happy that I now have all the box sets, I think. I have the Secret Wars, Infinity Gauntlet, Civil War, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Avengers, 75th Anniversary, and soon the X-Men box set! Can’t wait to see what Marvel or DC come out with next.
These box sets are always intriguing, but I really am a noob when it comes to X-Men. Still I'm more into larger format art in omniboo especially at the price point, but that would probably make the set be even more pricey. Great video and the set does look tempting.
Also a personal note about the greatness of Neal Adams. A year ago at a comic expo here in Edmonton Alberta Canada, I was fortunate enough to be involved and be an assistant to Neal Adams. It was the opportunity of a lifetime I was blessed. For 3 days I got to pick his brain and ask him every question I ever had he was super nice. In the end he gave me 6 signed art prints and he signed my Green Lantern/Green Arrow Absolute edition and me being a ultimate Green Arrow fan it was a dream come true. He made Green Arrow look the way he did. It was a memory I won’t forget!
Oh man...to sit with a legend like that for three days. Damn... that is so awesome.
I did not know those books were hardcover, so that's cool. Though, I prefer the oversized format of the Omnis, so I'll just wait for a reprint of the two old X-Men Omnis.

Awesome video. I appreciate the effort you did in going over each individual book. I will definitely buy it even though I have read each story presented many times. I enjoyed the silver age material the most but you can’t go wrong with Bronze Age X-Men.

The essentials in b&w are good, I wouldn't mind at all a black and white collection in good paper and hardback. i prefer that than recolouring.
I like it as it originally came out.
I would REALLY love to see them do something like this for Captain America. Like they would collect all his Golden and Silver Age runs and hopefully in time Ed Brubaker’s epic Winter Soldier run. That way I can stop searching for affordable complete trades.

Damn, I pre-ordered the book once it came up on Amazon back in last year and I'm still unsure whether I should choose this boxset or the upcoming (reprinted) omnis (expect the Silver Age stuff). I heard this has almost sold out completely (due to pre-orders) which is really nice and maybe we'll get a second one coming years later, which would be FANTASTIC!

I have neither the "Original" omnis or the Epics. Would be nice to upgrade from and retire my Classic X-Men Essentials, finally.
About the evolution of the "new" X-MEN, Len Wein and Dave Cockrum certainly were the two that brought the new team to life, but it started with Roy Thomas, who was already planning on reviving the team, with the thought of making an international lineup, in part to make the book sell better internationally. Thomas also stated in interviews that the international makeup of the Blackhawks influenced his decision on the new X-MEN characters.

"Giant-Size X-MEN" #1 was not considered the first annual. The "Giant-Size" line of Marvel comics was a separate line from the annuals. The first X-MEN annual is "X-MEN King-Size Special " #1, which was reprints, as well as "King-Size Special" #2. For a period of time in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Marvel retitled annuals as "King-Size Special," but eventually reverted back to "Annual." The first all-new story "X-MEN Annual" is #3, which the new team.
I hope they do 3 X-Men box sets, 3 spiderman box sets, 1 thor box set, and 1 Fantastic Four box set. I don't know where I'll put them, but I need them.

The paper is a little thicker than the omnibus of late. A little. Reminds me of the Masterwork paper some.
This is a decent X-men box set. May be presumptuous of me, but I would prefer Marvel to start selling Epic Collection Box sets. Like volumes 1-10 type of box sets! I'd gladly toss out the money for that. Nice overview Omar.

Glad I stumbled upon this video. Thank you for posting it. Unless I'm mistaken Amazon is listing this for 345 down from 500 at the time of this post, and it's coming out March 17th. I'm overseas, and I might just have to ship this to a friend for pickup later. I'm pretty much restricted to digital comics now, but this collection looks really, really, definitive for the X-Men when it was at the top of it's popularity. It's also the perfect gift to get someone that wants to get into the comics. As long as they're willing to make it past those first 60 or so issues. They're rough :D

Actually the cover for Fate of the Phoenix is from #135 not #136; also when I saw a book called the Lost Years I mistakenly thought it would be the Hidden Years by John Byrne. Wish they had collected that as well. Also don't forget Giant Size #1 was the first Annual; #2 was a reprint of the Neal Adams Sentinels storyline; #3 was Akron with Frank Miller cover and George Perez interiors, #4 as you said was Nightcrawler's Inferno with John Romita Jr artwork

Thanks for the preview. I saw an earlier video that showed the box art, and noticed that poor Thunderbird had a missing foot. It appears nobody in production caught that, as he is still missing his foot on your box. The Beast is also wearing gloves on that picture by Jack Kirby of the team charging on the box. That picture is kind of a well-known Marvel No-Prize kind of flub, so maybe it was left like that intentionally? Very cool collection, no matter what.
I never really noticed that about the Thunderbird missing foot.

Interesting. I bought the Infinity Gauntlet boxset and ended up liking it better than the omnis. Even though they are smaller (vertically) than omnis, I prefer less pages, no dust jackets, more complete overall sets, but more tighter actual stories in each individual book. I could see the potential for all kinds of box sets. Annihilation, Wolverine, more X-Men ones, even the latest Hickman stuff once it is finished. Do you think these box sets will become more common? I am wavering on this one but, if I am honest, I will probably splash out for it.
I'm sure they will keep moving forward with more and more box sets.
@@NearMintCondition I guess what I am really asking is, do you think they might, at least at some level, be a replacement for omnis? For example, people like myself, who are collecting the Claremont X-Men run might end up going for boxsets (assuming they do them all) rather than an omni collection of them. I could honestly see it being a nicer reading experience with the smaller books. At the same time, at this point, I am very invested in my X-Men omni collection.

No you cannot.
Oh my...I own the first two Uncanny omnis, and it's classic stuff. Read the first one last year, about to finish the 2nd one now. And they're reprinting 3 and printing 4 this year, so the omnis seem like a no brainer. But this is so gorgeous, and includes the earliest stuff (which I admit I wasn't huge the silver age stuff I read, but it appeals to the completionist side of me lol). I did buy the Roy Thomas/Neal Adams Gallery Edition book, so I'll likely just stick to the omnis.

I did pre-order this and then changed my mind and cancelled it because I decided I would rather get the soon-to-be reprinted Uncanny X-Men omnibus vol 1, which is the point at which X-men was greatest.
I prefer the bigger page size of omnibus as well and already have the Marvel Famous Firsts: 75th Anniversary Masterworks Slipcase Set, which has the first dozen or so issues of X-men so getting this new set would be a real double dip.
Thanks for this justifiably in-depth look at the box set which lets me see what it looks like without actually having one myself. I can't wait for my uncanny x-men omnibus to arrive now!

This is a really hard choice because I don't know if I want to buy the box set, especially due to the price since the omnibus reprints are coming out this year but if there was a second box set collecting the rest of Claremont run, I would definitely get this box set. Omar, do you think there's any chance of vol 2 box set?

If you aren't a fan of the Silver Age, yeah uncanny will do you. As this contains the two Silver Age omni material.

This is absolutely gorgeous, but I have a question... I get the extra empty space at the top of the box to make it easier to remove the books, but where is there so much wasted space to the left and the right of the books? Is it just to make the box more sturdy?

This looks fantastic and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Omar realistically do you think we will end up getting a second boxset? It seems like the only core X-men Omni’s that aren’t being reprinted are the two Lee/Kirby’s whose material is collected in this set.
I think if the sales of this box set are great... anything is possible.
Herb Trimpe is actually pronounced like "Trimpy." I found that out years ago reading "Stan's Soapbox," where Stan Lee pointed out that it rhymes with "Shrimpy." Heh.
Oh, and I am somewhat bummed that the "Bizzare Adventures" issue was not included. The collection seems to have everything else with the X-MEN that was published during those years, so it's weird that one got overlooked. Oh well, this still is an awesome collection!

An absolutely gorgeous collection which I'm not gonna get for myself but still - beautiful. Also for future videos could you use a Word Document screenshot or something like that for the contents in the corner instead? Not throwing shade at your hand writing but it would be much easier to see when on mobile or Switch.
