Despite what you say, the companion volumes ARE oversized hardcovers. they are on my shelf next to my Daredevil omnibuses and they are the same height and width

These deluxe editions ARE in fact oversized and are the same sizes as my other DC Omnibuses. However, I do agree with the fact they should have a done an Omni.

Thanks for the overview. Really helped me make a decision on these Companion books. I'll wait to see if DC will ever smarten up and make a proper reading order/Omnibus of these.

You covered the pertinent bits I was looking for. Much appreciated! Mindboggling that they went to the trouble of a timeline yet failed to order the issues accordingly. Now time to fan edit my digital copies into a proper omnibus.
You prefered the Absolute edition for the main series, have you seen the mountain of extras in the 35th anniversary edition?

No haven't seen that. Worth a pick-up? Glad the video helped you. Good luck with the edit. That would be great to see!

I don't think the order is wrong, most of the stories are unrelated to each other, so by following the timeline you would be reading an issue of the legion, then other from new teen titans, then one from swamp thing and so on. It makes more sense (to me) to read the 3 legion issues all together, then the 2 new teen titan issues all together, then the 1 swamp thing issue and so on.
By the way, I check every issue from the boxset and this companions hc and they are the exact same, they are just on another reading order (not the time line). The box set does have all the multiple earths issues (not included on the companions), those are being collected on tpb and the JLA omnibuses.
also are the companions sewn binding like the absolute or are they glue binding???
    Cheers!

I have vol 1 of this but put of buying the other two as we need an omnibus really can’t believe we have not got one yet 😊😊

I wouldn't complain if they just collected the JSA Shanghaied into Space in a small trade.

Sorry for being newbie. What is the difference between Crisis On Infinite Earths and CIOE Companion ?

No problem at all. Crisis On Infinite Earth's was a DC comics limited series. If I remember it correctly, it was printed in 1985 and was 12 issues long. It was a big event at the time and I remember collecting all the issues. The COIE Companion collection is a three volume set of hardcover books that collect many of the issues that tied in to the 12 issue series. It's not required reading in order to enjoy the original 12 issue series, but it is nice to see what was going on in other DC titles at the time and flesh out the story a little bit. Hope this helps!

these companions are nice but the order is maddening

hi, wanted to know that the companion volumes are to be read before or after Crisis on infinite earths?

    • @omegablu6881
      @omegablu6881  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Personal choice really. A lot of it takes place during the Crisis, so neither before or after. They’re companion issues, tie-ins, though some quite loosely. For me, it was more of an interesting read after I read the Crisis issues.

I've never seen anyone complain about the editors bothering to put an index in there in the form of a timeline. I can personally easily use an index without it being "confusing" (on the contrary) and appreciate that to easily navigate between the books, just like at college or university. I prefer separate bindings, as they keep better over time than in one large binding.
I see in amazon reviews that there is someone else, also in the US, but only the one who also seems upset at the comics being arranged in a "thematic" order, by relevant different editions and issues, which are in order, I notice that the Batmans and Detective Comics you showed were staggered between to keep chronological order, just that all the Batman stories are together in one part of the book. They put in the index specifically to make that easier if you waned to read them in chronological order.
However, you can't expect the world to dumb itself down to your standards, that's not how it works. The rest of us have spent time on ourselves, though only usually as children and teenagers to not find things like that such a problem, hence why presenting those in that way was deliberately chosen. But you don't say deliberately, I bet you say "purposely".
