- So today I got a hold of the newly reprinted manga box sets for both Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z! Here's just a quick unboxing and first look of these.

Just recently got into anime in general, I used to love dbz when I was a kid and I want to know what happens in the story now that I’m grown. This is perfect 👌
Amazon always finds a way to keep things that I do'nt need in good condition, in good condition, but when I order anything mildly fragile it looks like an angry gorilla packed it.
Iv thankfully always gotten my amazon manga in mint condition

I don't know why but I think having a combo of older and new volumes showing the different logos looks so cool and I hope to get some older volumes from used books stores, I think it just makes it cooler that they don't all look the same but maybe just me.
The older ones used to come with a spine sleeve at the bottom that showed the spine art from the volumes I wish they still had that

It's weird how they separated the manga in DB and DBZ when the original doesn't have that division
If you don't know - when the anime was airing in Japan, there was a change in director (and I think producer) that led to the anime having the Dragon Ball and Z split, as it was essentially a new series starting where the other left off. The manga didn't have that split naturally. But when Dragon Ball Z, the anime, was sold to America, it wasn't sold with the first Dragon Ball series included, hence it was introduced to most markets as Dragon Ball Z in the rest of the world. Translating and releasing the manga in those markets then borrowed the Z name to capitalize on the brand name recognition.
@AidedCreator21 it was common sense marketing at the time, but the franchise has long since outgrown the need for the rebrand. At least the 3in1 Dragon Ball release had the series collected all under 1 title. Shame about the censorship and the paper quality though.
@AidedCreator i prefer no Z aswell, mainly cause it's a pain to search for anything Dragon Ball pre-Z. if i just search "Dragon Ball" most of it is Z and Super.

I just bought the dbz box set since the price seemed to be pretty low. $125
Volume 1 of DBZ is shorter because in Japan it was part of the same volume as the last volume of Dragonball. They didnt split up the series in the manga in Japan.

There's actually a reason for that! As you've probably heard before, the whole 42-volume series is just called "Dragon Ball" in Japan. Only the anime was split into DB and DBZ. When Viz decided to split the manga the same way, the volumes didn't actually line up. Volume 17 of Dragon Ball, what we have as DBZ Volume 1, actually included the last two chapters of the 23rd Budokai, wrapping up the fight against Piccolo Jr. In order to keep the manga split more faithful to the anime, those two chapters were moved to Volume 16 so DBZ Vol 1 could start with Raditz.
I feel like there’s like a 80% chance one or more volumes will be messed up with misaligned covers or multiple clone volumes.
Also the box on my one piece box set was busted up the same way.
Only problem i got with mine was i got the dbz booklet in the dragonball box

the box sets are great, but it’s also good to get the sets of 3 on amazon. for example, on amazon, there’s a box set for part 1 of naruto (first 27 volumes) for about 130 bucks. but if you get the sets of 3, they cost about 12 dollars each, and 12 x 9 is about 108, which leads it to be less than the box set. this is probably only for naruto though. either way, getting box sets/sets of 3 is way better than individually buying volumes.

but sometimes it ain’t aesthetically pleasing. like the one piece manga spines don’t contain the same art the singles do. like the 3-1s only have luffy spines whereas the singles have different characters. guess it just depends if you have the extra cash to spend or not lol
kantoemlv i wrote this comment before actually receiving the books, and i didn’t realize that it’d be all three books in one. i thought it would have been the three different books in a box or something. i completely agree with you though, the individual books just look better and have a better feel than three books in one
I buy a lot of manga at half price books. There you find both really old and new prints of books. I thought I was the only person bothered by the changing logos on the spine. My collection randomly changes from volume to volume what logos are on the side.
Ps. I might have to pull the trigger on these box sets now. I've wanted to own all of dbz for years and it's to hard to find the individual volumes I still need in the wild.

My dragon ball volume 10 came with four pages that was to big and they was also bent in like dog ears stuffed in the book… and it was sealed bran new, I guess the factory machine messed it up. Was very upsetting, but man they gave you two 12s… hope Viz gets their stuff together.
I have the Vizbig editions, but I really like how the box sets would look on my shelf 🤔
I thought of going for this but the paper they use tend to go yellowish in time so I went with Viz Big edition... they used good quality paper and include colored part of the manga...

Dragon Ball z Volume 1 has the Dragon Ball (not Z) chapters cut out, they were put in DB vol 16. To divide the series like the anime.
I bought the Viz 3in1's and I love them. The value was amazing. Some people don't like the paper quality but it doesn't bother me much as I'm careful with them. The other criticism is the spines creasing too much but I've reread them at least a dozen times and my spines still look good on the shelf. 10/10 would reccomend the 3 in 1s

Dragon Ball is one of the best Shonen Jump manga ever written and it's become a trend now days.

In brazil when you get all the mangas the image that forms behind them is Dragon ball written in the first til the last one. And also all the characters from the manga are there.

I bought the Italian version
the second time I had removed the volume from the box, a corner of the box was torn and I had to put some scotch tape on it and then the pages are too thin but maybe that's just a Panini feature. It's a collection piece to put on a shelf and keep it there to read Death Note buy the volumes. Maybe I'll buy another one but Japanese that I will keep sealed Italian not sure

@@jackaghion9824 Certain parts are always censored. There's a title page with everyone throwing middle fingers at Cell that are changed to awkward fists. Boo throws a middle finger after he absorbs Vegetto (or Vegerot lol). And of course Mr. Satan is renamed to Hercule. There's never been a 100% uncensored release of the manga in English.

I would’ve bought the box set of z but I thaught the 3in1’s spine art is much more aesthetically pleasing lol and there cheaper. But the original dragon ball box set I had to get it’s was just to good ; )

The first seven volumes of dragon ball form a picture of shenron/shenlong on the spines. The dragon is shown holding all seven dragon balls. Each othe the volumes has the dragon ball with the corresponding number of stars in it. Just a little fun fact for you.
I’m mostly getting the 3 in 1 mangas for the original dragon ball mostly out of convenience and an easier way to get all of them in a more compact way

Here in Australia, both box sets on Amazon are $200 each, but the 3in1 volume collections totals cheaper. So personally if i ever collect the manga I'll probably be getting the ladder option.
