  • Episode 51: Lower Creatinine Naturally: Improve your Kidney Health and avoid kidney failure. There are many ways to help lower creatinine fast with kidney disease and I share how to lower creatinine levels naturally without supplements, herbs or medications. The most impactful is eating a lower creatinine diet with more fiber that your renal dietitian helps you with. When you lower creatinine your kidney function (GFR) will increase and your BUN will decrease. If your levels are high, then you need to take action so that you can avoid kidney failure and dialysis and nothing beats doing it the natural way with diet and lifestyle!

      Dadvice TV - Kidney Health Coach You gave me hope and made me start looking. It all got worse when I developed (probably) viral cardiomyopathy a couple of years ago. I have a crt-d, a fancy sort of pacemaker and that’s repaired my heart. I’m implementing one thing at a time. First plant based, now onto double checking all those little things. A lot of the plant based whole food doctors are starting to talk about kidney disease impacts. So it’s working.

      +Roseanne Byrne Glad to hear things are working - it amazing how powerful our diet is at keeping us healthy. My doctor recently told me that I have added at least 10+ years to my kidney health already! I plan to continue improving and adding more years. Keep up your diet and let’s beat CKD together!

      Glad to hear that Roseanne! Implementing change one step at a time also helps to determine what works and what may not since we are all a little different. I see a change starting to happen more with doctors talking more about the power of diet and what we choose to eat/drink. It is also getting much easier to avoid animal protein with companies like Beyond Meat. Of all the meat alternatives, I personally prefer theirs for burgers and the like - much more kidney friendly than what is offered by the makers of the Impossible Burger. Would love to see them reduce sodium in their product, and hopefully that will come soon.

      There are a few tips worth trying
      drink lots of water.
      eat watermelon - this helps reduce kidney disease .
      try taking vitamin A and drink organge juice - these can reduce kidney disease .
      cut down on meat, cucumber, radish and alcohol.
      (I learned these and why they work on Jaylands kidney kit site )

      If its a clinic with a nurse practitioner working from a general blood urine screen, you get what you pay for. Thats criminal they didn't tell you anything beyond numbers. I'm sorry to read that. They don't say a word until you're a step away from dialysis...then they might. They aren't trained in nutrition and careful not to step into nephrology territory . So how do you know when you need to see a specialist to understand whats really happening? You don't. Learn all you can and find a doctor who respects your condition with compassion.

    My doctor is useless. They did not share my eGFR numbers with me for years. I only found out my eGFR was 58 when I went to emergency for another unrelated reason. I was shown my previous eGFR numbers for over a decade showing me they were in the low 70s. I am heeding all of the Dadvice given here so I will stay where I am at. I never had a clue the amount of sodium I was ingesting all these years and I though I was eating healthy. Sodium is sneaky and difficult to avoid. I am drinking the correct amount of water - 1/2 my body weight in ounces. I am avoiding animal protein. I hope I will never progress further with kidney disease.

    My doctors didn’t tell me anything. My kidneys weren’t great so I was doing your methods and was getting better but I got sick with COVID and it completely knocked my kidneys out. So I’m on dialysis now, been on it since September I got depressed and lost hope but I have a cousin who just recently celebrated a yr of being off dialysis she was on it for 2 yrs THAT GAVE ME HOPE AND BRIGHTENED MY SPIRITS and I’m back to watching your videos and gonna get back on track. I know everyone experience is different and just because something works for one doesn’t work for everyone but I’m willing to try. I still go to the restroom regularly, but yes like u said my doctors didn’t give me any info I still have not spoken to the renal dietician and I asked more than once, I just been googling things on my own. All they worry about is if you come to dialysis, it’s sad. I’ve done research and I’ve seen that ppl can actually get off of dialysis and do indeed reverse kidney function. Fingers crossed for me 🤞🏾

      I am walking, living, and smiling proof that there are other options when facing stage 5. While not everyone can delay or avoid dialysis, it benefits are so great that it is worth trying. I've been publishing videos since February of this year and looking back at them, it is amazing to see how slow, weak, anemic, and unhealthy looking I was and how I changed each week into what I am today. It's amazing and it is all owed to my great primary care physician who told me I didn't have to go with dialysis.

    I'd like to comment that I lowered my creatinine in one week from 1.37 to 1.23. I went to my Rheumatologist for gout and she measure my GFR and Creatininne. and it had risen. So I changed my diet that week. And a little over a week later I went to my Kidney Doctor and got tested. And everything had improved. I thought I was eating too much protein as I learned from your vids. So I ate less protein -fish and chicken was my mainstay. And went to a more vegetarian diet, ate more veggies and fruit, tofu, etc.. Adjusted my serving size of each meal. So I was able to improve. I asked my Kidney doctor if diet protein, etc effects my numbers, and she didn't think so! But I proved her wrong. Also, I was itching quite a lot and realized the cereal I ate was causing the itch. Because I tried it today for a snack and within an hour of eating it I started itching again. So I'm beginning to get a sense of my body and how it reacts to food. I am very pleased to be able to improve my GFR and Creatininne with diet. And hope to improve it further. Thanks for the info! I am 67 and my mother died of Kidney Disease at a ripe old age, so I know what can come down the road if I don't play it smart.

    I am here not for myself but for my dog. His kidneys were fine until he had a spleen removal op. He collapsed in the street a few days later and after being rushed to the clinic with blood work done on him, it turned out his creatine levels were 6.9 He had IV fluids for a few days but they practically told me he would be slowly going out like a candle. NONE OF THEM at the clinic AND NONE OF THE TWO VETS NEAR MY HOUSE offered any kind of treatment. I am giving him sub cute fluids three times a week and have changed his diet. His appetite has come back, in fact he now has a huge appetite ... his creatine has moved down 2 points and I am hoping it will continue to go down. This video has been the most helpful. I looked at some dog videos for kidney disease but was not satisfied with any of them.

    I was diagnosed at 26 GFR. It is now 44! Raised it by carefully watching my diet. That is, the KINDS of foods, but I’m overweight. Need to reduce AMOUNT of good foods. A kidney dietician at Mayo Clinic gave me a list of foods to AVOID: cola drinks (drink only water), dried or baked beans, nuts and seeds of all kinds, split peas, whole-grain cereal ( nearly all commercial breakfast food is whole grain). Eat only white bread, not whole grain. I was told to LIMIT milk/dairy, chocolate, cheese, yogurt, soybeans. Ice cream, red meat (I have gout and do not eat red meat, but only about 4 oz fish/poultry). Thank you for sharing your journey to good health, so encouraging. Thank you for advice about raising fiber.

      @GrannyNerd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      DOAU1 I guess the answer is: “Everything else, but no fast food.” I assiduously avoid salt/sodium. Drink only water and some coffee/tea. I eat a lot of frozen vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower, winter mix veggies, stir fry veggies, homemade vegetable soup using no-salt broth, fresh or frozen fruit for dessert. It sounds boring, - but a steady diet of fast food is also boring. It was easy to reset my “taster,” when I realized the damage the wrong foods can do. P.S.: Don’t eat veggies late in the evening. They are mostly water, so you will be up and down all night running to the bathroom. The nephrologist also said to avoid NSAIDs (aspirin, Aleve, ibuprofen, etc.), but to use acetaminophen (Tylenol) instead. I try to limit those, too - too much is bad for the liver..

      Thanks for sharing. I wish I could say I was shocked and that it is rare, but what you described is the norm. Which doesn't mean it is right. It is important for us Warriors to be proactive in our care and to push our doctors for the best treatment strategy. My first Nephrologist told me I had "Zero Chance" of improving....ZERO. That was back when my GFR was 13 and I was suffering every symptom in the book. Today, I have ZERO Symptoms, and my GFR has improved greatly - and I have a great life without dialysis.
      Managing blood sugar and blood pressure are important, along with finding the right diet/supplements. A dietitian can go a long way in helping with that - they are the real miracle workers when it comes to treating CKD.
      Keep learning - you can do this! I kicked kidney disease to the curb and others can too. Good luck and always feel free to reach out to me or other warriors here in our community to help. We have each others backs.

      Bonnie is right - most doctors are not up to date. After I was diagnosed I was told to buy a 2006 textbook used in medical school and look up the diet information for CKD. It was extremely small and the recommendation was awful - pretty much limit yourself to 1 can of soda per meal. Nothing about trying to get better, nothing about the right foods to eat, nothing about using your labs to adjust your diet, and nothing about animal protein. Most doctors up until 2007 where trained to be silent (since there is little that can be done) until Stage 4 where they prepare you for dialysis. I'm sure the Dialysis centers love this method - lots of new customers lining up for service. My amazing primary care physician (family doctor) said it best "Being a Doctor is a Practice ,which means you need to continue to educate yourself". There is too much reliance on pills from the drug companies (which offer incentives to docs who push their pills) and not enough sharing of modern information. But I believe that will change with the Internet and we are driving that. We can all help that revolution in medical care for Kidney Disease happen. We are the change and we are all AMAZING!

The last lab results that I received my creatinine level was slightly higher than normal. I asked him what I can do to lower it and he said nothing. Everything else seems to be fine. It really disappoints me that my doctor does it give me more information on how to help myself get better. My health team consist of a lot of people - 2 Nephrologist, 5 dietitians, 1 Endocrinologist, 1 Urologist, and my Primary Care Physician. It is a challenge to keep information flowing between them all, but that has been a critical part of my treatment strategy and recovery.
      The good news is that as we share more of our experiences online - this is being brought out in public. I hope health care professionals will realize we have a serious issues. I have a tip that may help you with sodas - Try ZEVIA! It's a Soda approved by Nephrologist and Dialysis centers. They have tea and soda's. My wife switched over 100% to them. Go to Zevia's website and tell them you heard about them from Dadvice TV and that you'd like some coupons to try them. They usually send out a $2 off a 6-pack coupon as well as other coupons. It's a GREAT replacement for kidney damaging traditional sodas. And if you try them and like it - spread the word. But medicines they prescribe regularly and lay emphasis on taking them. They don’t even mention probable side effects of the drugs. Tests don’t show much improvement because I’m now realizing that diet and exercise is crucial to maintaining good health together with medicines.

When I told him that I m not interested in thinking about dialysis at stage 3b then he told me he is unsure if I m in stage 3b or Stage 4 . He claimed that GFR can be more if it is in another lab the results depends on the labs really. @Brenda - That is a great question. One of my doctors is helping write a script for a video about Uric Acid, but I can't remember what all he recommended to treat (and prevent) it. One thing I do remember - Lemons!!! Lemon juice has so many benefits - from preventing or breaking down kidney stones, to help treat or prevent uric acid from building up. It sounds counterproductive, but when your body digest lemon juice there is a chemical reaction that is beneficial to us. I add lemon juice to my water, my salads, my protein (when I eat meat), and even tuna. It doesn't take much - I make sure to drink 1oz of lemon juice throughout the day. That can be a shot, mixed in a big glass of water, or mixed into a water bottle. It doesn't matter how quickly it gets into your body, just that you get it. Good luck!

      Thank you for your support! I cringe looking back at my first videos - but it serves as a great example of me improving by sticking to my diet. Someone recommended I create a montage showing how much I've improved since earlier this year when I posted my first video and I'm going to do that some time soon. My energy level is through the roof - I feel amazingly great and am more active than I have been in about 20 years.

    Hi James, Great video with more education. :) After reading what Cayetano Rocha said below in a comment, I think a great video topic for you to do would be, "How to read & understand your blood test report and which numbers are the ones to really keep an eye on. " Many Doctors lack going through the report with the Kidney Patient unfortunately.

    I am one of those people with ckd who has to limit their fluids. My nephroligst told me to limit all fluids to 64 ounces a day, limit sodium to 1500 mg a day, and to lose weight with exercise like walking.

    Hi James..for us Filipinos, rice is life. Weeks ago I was making arroz caldo with tiny bit of salt on it then I saw in your videos that Fiber is sooo much important so now I switched to Cauliflower-rice. Hope that helps?

      @simplelife7888 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      less rice pls, one cup rice for the whole day is way enough for us as a ckd patient. choose veggies that more on fiber and protein, diet helps a lot. im following all dadvice and i feel great.

      My favorite source of Fiber before I went ultra-low carb was Apples. I enjoyed so many of them and they gave me lots of fiber. I also added (and still do) Benefiber Healthy Shape fiber powerder to my meals and drinks. The Healthy Shape version is a little difference and I add some to boost my fiber. Some people worry about Benefiber, but for me the benefits were far greater and it helped me get from Stage 5 to stage 3.

    used the formula to hydrate ... 88 ounces drove my creatinine from 2.7 to 1.2 YES! thanks coach ... I needed hydration important for me because I kept getting infections .. Lyme disease ... type A and B flu ... and a urine infection ... all needed different antibiotics .... which antibiotics decrease the immune system ... my nurse practitioner is saving my iife ... we collaborate ...

    I was only told to go on a plant based diet. I was told to avoid drinking a lot of water which doesn't make sense. I was only told to avoid processed foods and sodium. Unfortunately, I didn't have a great conversation with this doc and demanded to get a different doctor at their office. I am scheduled to do blood work this week and speak to the new doctor on Monday 8/10. I need actual help how to reduce my creatine level from 1.9 to a lower number.
