I’m so nervous because my last visit I was tall I was down to 18% function but I listen to your advice and I have been on a vegetarian diet for at less 3 weeks! Good luck on your labs - and try not to get too stressed. I'll let you know a secret - even though I am excited to get my labs, I'm always a little nervous also. Eating a vegetarian diet can have a big impact - a very positive impact. :-)

    march 25th, 2023 - Came upon your site James and I'm amazed with your work and presentations that I haved viewed. Without a doubt this is your calling and you do a superb job as well as being a real coach and kidney warrior. Got Dr. Ro's book and educating myself. Just connected with a dietitian ( something I neglected to do ) who works with my urologist. I'm at stage 3 going into 4. Came to an awakening of my situation and now engaged to get with it to reverse this condition. Thank you James, you are a super kidney coach and hero. Norman/Ontario/Canada

    I found this soooo informative! I have CKD but I don't know what stage. My primary care provider has sent s referral to a Nephrologist and I'm very anxious to find out. With the information you've provided I feel much better prepared to fight this disease, to slow it down. I just don't understand why doctors don't tell you this stuff! It's life saving. Thank you!

    Another fabulous video James. My last lab results showed very high levels of phosphorous. I've been a vegetarian since I was 9 years old and am now in my 50's and could not understand where this stuff had crept into my system from. When I realised from one of your videos where you briefly spoke of phospherous, especially in dairy, I considered what changes to my diet have I made since the last labs 6 weeks earlier. Low and behold, I was eating a lot of cottage cheese and oat crackers. I read the label of the crackers, sure enough there it was, the culprit. I haven't had any of them since and only have a tablespoon of cottage cheese twice a week. I'm hoping my lab results due next week will show my levels are within the normal range. I learn so much from you, thank God I found your channel.

    I have stage 3 kidney disease. Am rapidly heading for stage 4. I also going through my 3rd round of gout in my left foot. Omg! The pain is unbearable. They say gout is related to arthritis. I'm sure it is. However after googling the heck out of this subject I have come to the conclusion it is more affected by poor functioning kidneys. Could you or would you please address this issue in one of your videos. I'm just starting to implement some of your advice. I have found my number one enemy is SALT. Second is sugar and third is fat. For several days now I have purged my eating of all three of these things. My gout does not seem to be better YET. But my body is feeling better. I fully intend to keep applying your advice concerning these other things too. Thank you for the public service you are performing for us. You give us hope for out future health. May our creator, Jehovah, bless you for this. Thank you again.

      Glad it was helpful! It's funny, I used to NEVER be in front of a camera and did everything to avoid it. There may be 5-6 photos of me from the last 10 years and ALWAYS hiding behind people. My doctor was confident he could help me improve and encouraged me to keep a journal. He knew what kind of person I was and told me I'd get better and then want to write a book about it. I quickly decided to start recording what I had learned as if I was talking to myself from the future. I love doing it and love working with all of the others who collaborate with me, as well as meeting other kidney warriors from all around the world.

    Really enjoy your videos, I'm suffering from stage 5 ckd, and I've been asked prepare for dyalisis. I've been hesitant for a long time about going on dyalisis. And at this stage I do not want to use it, but I do want to improve my kidney function. I don't have some of the typical symptoms of CKD sufferers, my blood pressure is normally good, I don't have diabetes and I urinate normally, the symptoms I do have are fatigue and poor sleep. My creatinine levels are high and I could lose some weight to help improve my general health. But I will try my best to implement much of what you have, like drinking more water and cutting out sodas, and just improving my entire diet.

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Please do cut out sodas and eat only kidney friendly foods - future you is depending on the decisions you make today. When I finally got to where I was no longer fatigued and sleeping all night it was amazing - and I want that for you. At first it seemed really difficult, it looking back, I am so glad I stuck with the diet and gave my body the opportunity to get better. Along this journey I have found a whole new me - one that is so much healthier and happier. I too needed to lose weight (well, a lot), and that is now happening naturally as I continue to get better. Best of luck in your journey - you can do it and then share your story with others so that they too can be encouraged to try and avoid Dialysis.

    Hi James what kind of bread can my Husband eat ?
    Are Organic foods fresh of course ok to consume?

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Organic is always great - but you'll want to look for regular white bread with low sodium and no preservatives. The higher his GFR the less critical it is to stick with white bread and no preservatives. When I was stage 4 and 5 and ate bread (I'm now excluding carbs) I had it made fresh at a local bakery. They did not add preservatives and used very little salt. It cost me about the same for the fresh bread as a loaf at the super market. • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I did eat bread (before going extremely low carb) I had my bread baked by a local bakery. They made it lower sodium and preservative-free - tasted great. When it comes to store-bought bread, white bread typically has less phosphorus and potassium compared to bran and whole grains bread.

    Hey! What do you know about baking soda and, niacin healing the kidney at stage 5? ❤

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is no healing of the kidneys. But sodium bicarbonate is often prescribed when your bicarbonate level is 22 or lower (this will be on one of your labs). There is research hinting possible other benefits to sodium bicarbonate, but more research is needed. Best advice is to only take what your doctor recommends - but feel free to ask them.

    Serious question for me: How do you prevent kidney disease in animals, esp. cats and dogs?

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish I had the answer for that. It isn't talked about much, but kidney failure is a serious problem for our loved pets. It can also hit them much quicker than it hits us. A friend just recently lost her small dog to kidney failure about 2 months ago. The dog started showing symptoms (not eating, lethargic, dark colored urine). The vet did labs and discovered the kidneys were failing. Sadly things came to a sudden end just a few days later. I wish I had advice to help out pets (my family is a HUGE pet supporter).

      @@DADVICETV Thank you for your reply. I am so sorry about your friend and the loss of her dog. I have lost several pets, some due to kidney disease. It is always a heartbreak experience. I hope there will be answers in the future to help slow the disease process down and to recognize it earlier in the illness. I enjoy your videos. You are very down-to-earth and are reaching and changing lots of peoples' lives. So, thank you!

      I haven't heard of that, but I'd recommend joining the Plant-Powered Kidneys Facebook group (ran by renal dietitian Jen Hernandez) and asking in there. It's a very helpful and positive group and one of the few on Facebook I actively participate in.

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My dietitian told me that Brewed tea and coffee count as water and are ok. I was told to stay away from instant and to watch for potassium in some of the less common teas. Instant teas and coffees have phosphates. There is also researching showing that some caffeine can be helpful, just not excessive. I completely avoided caffeine until stage 3, then I will occasionally have 1 cup in the morning to give me more energy for the super long days where I will be up on my feet teaching or lecturing all day.

    • @CreativeDee

      @@DADVICETV , Thank you. I don't have instant coffee at all. I always grind the beans then use them in my coffee machine. Are teabags considered as brewed when they are left in the cup for a while ? I am Stage 3 currently. :)

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tea bags are considered "brewed" - it's the more powerder like teas you mix into water which can be loaded with additional chemicals.

      Portion size is what matters - working with a renal dietitian makes it much easier to learn how much you can eat based on your labs, health, activity level, and other factors. Eating more plant based is going to make things so much easier.
