The only thing misleading in this video is it says that when the orange light is blinking it is finished: what it should say is finish the entire reservoir of descaler/water solution until the machine stops. Then remove the reservoir, rinse, fill will clean water, and place the reservoir back on the coffee machine. Press the orange steam light to rinse. Do this until the reservoir is empty and the orange light goes off. The key is ensuring the reservoir is empty at the end of each stage.

It really is not a good demonstration tbf..one om wonders how you even mess that up.
Also it takes less than 10 seconds to put the machine in program mode and the orange light ALWAYS blinks on my Dedica (it is not static) when it's time to descale.
I've never seen it just burning static

Also take in mind that it also works when you put more than one liter.. the goal is to wait until it stops pumping, that means the stage is completed

    This video has 2 issues:
    1. In the manual it explicitly instructs to remove the filter holder during descaling.
    2. According to the manual the orange light blinking means the operation is in progress, not that it has finished.

Worked fine for me many times - just running another one now I come back to this video before I run a descale because I've usually forgot the button presses by the times it's due for a clean again. I run white vinegar through, never had any issues machines 2 years in making 5 coffees a day. Still performs like the day I unboxed it

I also had the orange light flashing problem. So I rang Delonghi and they talked me through the process which I had done wrong after following this video! So, after filling up the tank, hold down the orange flashing light until all three lights flash simultaneously - about 10 seconds. (Put a jug under the steam arm/coffee outlet.) Then immediately turn on the steam knob and LEAVE IT to finish the descaling cycle. They say to turn it off for a few seconds a few times to allow water to go through the boiler to descale. Once you turn it back on again it will carry on descaling through the steam arm. I didnt put any fresh descaling solution again - I will do soonish but I probably wasted it first time round. The idea is to get rid of the pesky flashing orange light which will happen if you leave it to complete the cycle. Then fill up and repeat. It comes out faster this time. Good luck it worked for me. PS - dont use the coffee filter, its not necessary.

They have a bug, the button start blinking but descaling process didn't finish yet, wait until water will stop going and then just change the water tank to fresh one, and the process will run again automatically, then change one more and then just press on steam button. This way works for me. Good luck :D

I followed the instructions on the manual of my EC685 and I had no problem with the descaling process. It took around 25 MINUTES to finish the process. I really don't know why people can't do this process right.
    Steps:
    0. Remove the filter holder, yes REMOVE IT.
    1. Fill the tank with the descaler solution, obtained by diluting the descaler (100ml) with water (1L). Make sure the water tank is fill up to the MAX level, no more.
    2. Press the ON/OFF button. (to turn ON the machine)
    3. Position a recipient under the hot water spout and boiler outlet. (1L or more)
    4. Wait for the lights (1 & 2 cups) to come on steadily, indicating that the appliance is ready for use.
    5. Press and hold the steam button for 10 seconds until the three buttons flash in sequence.
    6. Turn the steam dial to the "steam/hot water" position.
    7. Press the steam button to start descaling.
    8. The descale programme starts and the descaler liquid comes out of the water spout. During descaling, to clean the boiler outlet, close the steam dial from time to time to deliver small quantities of descaler from the boiler outlet.
    9. The appliance stops operation and the orange light continues to flash, indicating that descaling IS STILL UNDERWAY.
    10. The appliance is now ready for rinsing through with CLEAN WATER. Extract the water tank, empty, rinse under running water, fill with fresh water up to the MAX level and put back in the appliance.
    11. Empty the container used to collect the descaler solution and replace it empty under the hot water spout.
    12. Make sure the steam dial is in "steam/hot water" position, then press the steam button to start rinsing. Again, during rinsing, to clean the boiler outlet, close the steam dial from time to time to deliver small quantities of water from the boiler outlet.
    13. When the water tank is empty, THE ORANGE LIGHT GOES OUT AND DESCALING IS COMPLETE.
    14. Make sure the steam dial is in the closed position (O symbol).
    THE END!
    Good luck!

Ok, well I am one of those dumbasses obviously
The problem i am having is that the instructions are not matching what actually happens
For example, my instructions, like yours says that the descaling is STILL UNDERWAY, and then the very next instruction says it is ready for rinsing...which is it? Is it still descaling or is it ready for rinsing?
PLUS, mine does not descale (pulsing water coming out the spout) until the tank empties, it stops when the tank is still 3/4 full...and yet, my instruction #8 says the opposite - it says it will continue to rinse and pause UNTIL THE TANK IS EMPTY
what's more, if instruction #8 is telling me it will continue to descale until the tank is empty, then why is it telling me in instruction #10 to empty the tank?????
So please excuse my obvious confusion when the instructions contradict what is actually happening.

This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.

I rang delonghi this morning here is the process the described
Turn onAdd descaler to a full tank of waterHold the steam button until they buttons flash in sequenceThen turn on steam dialPress the steam buttonKeep through the steam arm....Do Not turn the dial on and off throughout. The orange light will blink throughout this us normal. The 1st process ends when you run out of water. Then turn the steam dial off Replace the water tank with fresh waterTurn the steam dial back on to flush out the machine. This should then be complete

I tried your method and it worked perfectly, which is significant because you don't have to spend the entire time standing by the machine to keep turning the valve on and off, just check it periodically until the water runs out, roughly 15-20 minutes. I would add a couple of additional points. You know you're doing it RIGHT when the water shoots out in steady streams at one second intervals and the orange steam continues to blink throughout the process. Second, when the water tank emptied, the machine stopped, so I closed the steam knob, but the orange light continued to blink, which troubled me because I thought it would stop blinking and return to normal at that point. I then refilled the tank with fresh water and opened the knob again. This time the water came out at twice the speed and the tank emptied quickly. After all water ran through, the steam light went out and the machine went back to normal. Finally! I don't blame people for having trouble with this process, especially because the company is giving out false information, and because if you do something out of sequence or miss a step, you can easily be screwed (sorry, no other way to put it).

Its really easy. Follow the directions on this video until 1:25. Make sure the reservoir is at the max fill line when you start, let it cycle until its empty it will automatically stop and the orange button flashes. Rinse the reservoir, refill it replace. Hit the orange button, cycle through both steam dial settings a few times while it runs. It will automatically stop, rinse refill replace reservoir start it again with the orange button, cycle the steam dial. it will stop on its own and the two buttons on the left will flash white, your done.
This takes 20-30 minutes and you cant rush it. Once you complete it one time it will make sense be easier the next, these machines are designed to work well without a lot of user interaction, let it do what its programmed to and it will work fine.

I have the same issue with the orange light still blinking on after I descaled. I wasted 2 x 100ml of descaling fluid following this video and the manual instructions but to no avail it still didn't work. the manual and this video is not a very detailed step on how to descale the machine. on the 3rd attempt, I manage to put OFF the orange light and descaled my machine. what the manual and this video failed to emphasize is that after descaling, you need discharge the water in the tank by lowering the steam lever never pressing the steam button and let the water in the tank empty. I contacted via email Delonghi Spain, they told me to bring it in the Servicio Assitencia Tecnico (SAT) to check after my two attempts. This SAT people charges euro 28+ for descaling alone. But seriously, Delonghi you really need to improve this video and the instruction manual on how to descale so people can really follow this descaling process. Otherwise, I can only think that this is a conspiracy between SAT and Delonghi to make SAT profit from this.

Thanks so much Reymund. About a year ago I tried the steps in the video and ran descaler at least twice. I called the company at least 5 times and talked to various people and I couldn't get the orange light shut off. I then sent back the machine and they replaced one of the boards in the machine. They sent it back and the first time I tried to descale, the orange light wouldn't shut off. I've just assumed it was broken until I read your comments today. I tried it and in 3 seconds it was fixed.

Just a newbie question. Is the buildup inside inevitable even though you use bottled water?

    • @pvandck
      @pvandck 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Even more so. Never use bottled/mineral water in a coffee machine if you can avoid it. It's the mineral deposits that require the machine to be descaled. Just use ordinary tap water. The machine requires descaling according to how hard or soft the water is. Mineral water is hard water, requiring the machine to be descaled often.

Not sure if anyone has this issue:
After descaling, the instructions in my booklet tell me to rinse through with a full tank of water as in the video BUT THEN REPEAT THE RINSE CYCLE AGAIN. But after the first rinse the machine is finished with descaling and goes back into normal mode and won't allow me to rinse for the second time. Obviously I can rinse by just pouring hot water through the head and steam wand but this runs the risk of overheating the boiler....perhaps my instructions were out of date when I purchased the machine say 3 years ago and that the descaling cycle only requires one rinse now?

      1. Fill tank with descaling solution and water.
      2. Hold steam button for 10 seconds until lights flash.
      3. Turn steam knob to on.
      4. Press steam button.
      5. Let it run until tank is empty.
      6. Rinse out tank and fill with fresh water
      7. Press steam button
      8. When it is empty, light goes off
No need for a second scaling solution, just run through the process, it's pretty straight forward, just not explained well!

  • @FerFer1958
    @FerFer1958 5 ปีที่แล้ว

it took me 2 fails attempts to get the orange light to stop showing up.
My impression is that the machine is counting a number of pumps (doing that noise) and it won't stop until it reaches the preset number.
So, you fill the descaler liquid with the water, call the menu, turn the dial to the steam/hot water position, and press the steam button.
After this, just keep filling water and pressing the orange light.
The machine will use the 1st batch with the descaler, then the next clean water (rinse your container before filling it in), and probably an additional 1/2 to 1 container more.
The orange light will eventually will shut down by itself.
I didn't do the 'turning of the dial every certain time' on my 3rd try. Maybe it will work even when doing this.
The think is to keep emptying the hot water and keep adding water to the container and pressing the orange button.

How about a 'clean' button. ;)

  • @prestonian1066
    @prestonian1066 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

OK there seems to be a LOT of confusion over something that should be very straight forward.
To simplify things: STARTING A CYCLE Hold steam button for around 10 secs until the lights go through a sequence, when they do,leave go of the steam button and turn the steam lever to on and press the steam button which will start the cleaning. After 10 seconds turn the steam lever off and leave everything alone to do its job.
The machine will stop once it either runs out of water or has a mind of its own.At this point remove the water tank, flush and then fill with clean water, replace and hit the steam button again and flushing will commence, turn steam lever on for 10 seconds or so to flush that part of the machine and then turn the steam lever back off and allow the cleaning cycle to come to an end when the water runs out if not sooner. This cycle is far quicker than the 20-30 mins of the cleaning cycle.
HERE IS THE IMPORTANT BIT: Stop a cycle whenever you like by simply lifting the water tank up,the machine will stop once it detects no water after a few seconds. To continue just re-fit the tank and press the steam button. At any point you can dictate which cycle you want simply by lifting the water tank and starting another cycle. If it's a slow cycle it's on "descale" if it's a fast cycle it's on "flush". If it doesn't appear to be on any cycle and you want it to be then just simply repeat the cycle initiation by holding down the steam button for 10 seconds, turning steam lever on and hitting the steam button again.
The most important thing is to make sure you flush the system with clean water at least one full tank worth of water.Especially if you use a proprietary descaler. I only ever use distilled white vinegar which is a fraction of the cost and safe. the worst that can happen if you don't flush properly is you get a taste of vinegar. I use 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water, roughly.
I have had my machine 5yrs and all of the above works for me. It may not be advisable to stop the machine by disengaging the water tank but so far mine hasn't blown up and the coffee tastes as good as it did 5yrs ago.Considering modern equipment is designed to fail in a relatively short period of time I think it's reasonable to assume i've done no harm but do it at your own risk.
Everyone's taste is different but I don't use the steam wand anymore. In fact for the last few years I have simply put a double shot of espresso into a mug of hot milk and stir.Better than Starbucks(and I use their coffee beans).

For some reason they didn't think about the descaling process when creating this machine. I put a container beneath the machine which was too big to balance so I had too wedge something underneath to balance it. Then the water squirts so fast it sprays everywhere. Given that the descaler solution says don't get it into your eyes this seems unintended. On top of that this video is a bit misleading when it says it's finished when the steam light starts blinking. I thought the descaling process would be simple and quick. Not requiring a towel to cover the machine to stop it spraying.

If your gonna use anything I've used Citric acid with no problems which is far cheaper than lactic. But it is very important to get the concentration right so follow the instructions that come with the Citric acid. Easiest way is to buy Citric acid that is designed for descaling rather then its raw form. Some say you can use white vinegar but I'm no expert but wouldn't recommend this....

Jamich is right btw, I had no issues with the descaling process. Also, it is actually a very good machine for the price, it isn't a top notch espresso machine, but for that price, it is great value. Yes it is pressurised, that is due to the fact that most people buying this machine don't know enough about coffee to use fresh beans, a decent grinder, and don't know how to tamp properly. You can always modify the filter to make it non pressurised if you need to anyway.

To everyone who says the orange light still stays on after descaling, here's what it says in the manual. It applies to the EC615 as well.
    • If the water tank has not been flled to the MAX level, at the
end of descaling, the appliance requests a further rinse to
guarantee that the descaler solution has been completely
eliminated from the machine's internal circuits.
So ALWAYS fill the reservoir to the MAX level for each cycle.

They have a bug, the button start blinking but descaling process didn't finish yet, wait until water will stop going and then just change the water tank to fresh one, and the process will run again automatically, then change one more and then just press on steam button. This way works for me. Good luck :D
