  • NZXT's Hue 2 RGB controller is finally here but is it an improvement over the original or does it just add another competitor to an already cluttered market?

      Krombopulos Michael look at my other comments, do what I did, and you should enjoy it too. I found the hue 2 ambient for $60 on amazon and used command strips under the ends of each strip, they work perfectly and haven’t even sagged since I did that. I can confirm that the cold tones that the lights make blow out the warm tones. But they should be able to fix most of the problems with that product through software updates.

    • @jaturnley
      @jaturnley 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The digital stuff from Phanteks daisy chains, which helps a lot - you can chain up to 9 devices across 3 channels that can power up to 4 devices each, so it cuts cabling down considerably. Their controller can work on its own via an included wired remote, or via an addressable header on a mobo. The other nice thing is they don't sell RGB fans, they sell Halos shrouds that mount on top of other fans and shine lights down on the blades instead, so you aren't stuck using a not-so-great fan to do the color scheme you want. They look best on white fans (like the ones Phanteks sells), but they still look great on grey ones like EK Vardar or Noctua Redux ones.

    • @hunterware8143
      @hunterware8143 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on how you do it! I'm a stickler for cleanliness, so instead of going with strips or something like that, I have 3 enermax TB fans and then an NZXT Kraken x52. The lighting from just those 4 pieces is MORE than enough to light my entire case, and without a ton of cables all over the place. Personally I think strips are really unnecessary with how bright some of the LED fans are these days.

    • @Joey22688

      They been needing to fix it for years now, sadly complaining about it just leads to a bunch of fanboys defending it in their discord or sub reddit and such, I remember when the cam login was broken for over a month before they even bothered fixing it.

    • @GonePh1shing
      @GonePh1shing 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, the CAM software is an absolute nightmare. It doesn't work with my fans (Noctua Industrial) because they coded the PWM functionality really weird - they're aware of the situation but refuse to fix it. The 'smart' features built in with the new H line of cases is a gimmick at best, and there's just so many missing features with their RGB implementation it's not worth buying at all.
      That's not to mention that the whole thing is a security and privacy nightmare. NZXT has been caught multiple times farming crazy amounts of data from users machines, and they still won't let you use it offline without completely making the whole system basically useless.

      The new Hue Sync app for PC is pretty awesome. It does an awesome job in my room with ambient lighting when I am in a game - I have two BR30s overhead and a strip mounted behind the 55" OLED I use as a monitor, and it REALLY helps with ambiance, especially in games like FO4 and Skyrim where you are going in and out of areas a lot. I am thinking of getting a bloom light for the floor under my desk next to add some underglow.

    Can i plug this rgb kit directly on motherboard rgb connector?

  • @BeerBellyDK
    @BeerBellyDK 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've had the Hue+ accessory for years, and I've been somewhat satisfied. I just used the rgb strips to get underglow on my case.
    Now, I've definitely found that their strips in general sticks like crap. I had to glue mine in place. I use an aluminum case, so the magnets doesn't do anything for me, and the adhesive on the strips is really really bad.
    I've also had all manner of issues with the software, so I can echo that as well. Though, all my experiences has been with the hue+.
    I do have a question though, can I get that monitor ambient kit alone, or do I have to have the hue 2 internal kit as well? Maybe I didn't pay enough attention, but that part wasn't clear to me. :)

    I like that the ambient controller can be plugged in directly into a usb port. I hope they will do the same in the future for the rgb controller. So you don't have to plug it in a usb 2.0 port into your mobo.

    I had a lot of issues with CAM software in the beginning after building my computer. It would have difficulty recognising either my Kraken or the LED strips on my HUE would go all weird. Sometimes, after otherwise working fine for a while, it would just no longer show up in CAM. It also crashed a bit too often. However, it’s actually been very stable for this past year or so. I can’t even remember when the last crash happened. So I’m finally at a point, where I’m happy with it both from a stability and usablity standpoint.

    The adhesive issue is a common thing for these strips. The solution I found is a two side 3M thick tape. Little pieces at at corners.

    I'm interested, but after all the annoying random issues with Cam when I had the first hue, I don't think I'd wanna try this yet. On top of that I've got Philips hue setup with the Razer software and I LOVE IT, the thing that interests me about this is the individually addressable lights as Philips hue controls the whole strip as a whole.

    I switched to Corsair's ecosystem after trying to get NZXT's cam to not be a pile of garbage for 2 years. I don't think I'll ever think about going back unless cam gets a major overhaul.

    I'm so jealous of that case I was going back and forth with the 0-11 dynamic and evolv x galaxy silver. Ultimately went with evolv x because I feel like to do the 0-11 justice I needed a 360 rad

    4:10 You can use the "NZXT Internal USB Expansion HUB" to fix that, that will split one header into 3 as it's a variant of a USB hub with 3 headers and 2 USB 2.0 ports. I bought one to go along with my Hue2 and Grid+ V3, now I can plug all the cables (and, presumably my front panel USB header too) into that and just have one tidy cable showing in the case.
    EDIT: OK, You just said that right after....lol....serves me right for commenting at a timestamp and not continuing to watch :P

    Have y'all actually tested using multiple NZXT accessories plugged into their USB hub, since you're recommending people buy it?? I tried to power a Kraken x41 and Grid+ v2 via their hub, but neither were recognized by CAM software so they were stuck at their default settings. I was better off with a cheaper USB 2.0 to 3.0 header conversion cable. I'm willing to bet newer products will have the same issue because the hub is pretty old.
