It's interesting to see people getting their knickers in a twist over this.
Too many of these religious items have been lost with places of worship closing.
I live in the UK, I'm not religious, though I have my beliefs.
I see these objects as beautiful art works and items of outstanding craftsmanship and I enjoy looking at them.
I started a small collection and went to view some pieces this evening which I'm hoping to aquire and display in my house.
Surely it is better to see these labour's of love rescued than to lose them.

Exactly my thoughts. Thank you for being appreciative of these beautiful objects of skill and imagination, as well as Faith.
I am a practising Catholic and I wish there was a similar set-up like this near me in the UK, but with the increase in traditional priestly orders being asked to take care of churches that were once parishes, they are eager to acquire these statues, communion rails etc. to refurbish the church buildings in question! I've seen it for myself and it is truly heartening.
Yes, they are works of art but they are aids to prayer and are emphatically NOT idols. I would like to ask those who are getting their knickers in a knot about such items as these (including icons) if they carry photos of their family in their wallets or have them in frames on the wall. Obviously, they love and cherish the people beyond the images, not the images themselves. It's the same with these statues, icons etc. I don't see these people pick on the Orthodox Churches with their icons but Catholics are easy meat. Perhaps they will shut up when they see the holy images and symbols that are down in the Catecombs, painted by people of the Early Church who were persecuted and martyred for their Faith. Rant over. Peace and All Good.

Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols. So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there. Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also conversed with him. And some said, "What does this babbler wish to say?" Others said, "He seems to be a preacher of foreign divinities"-because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection. And they took him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, "May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? For you bring some strange things to our ears. We wish to know therefore what these things mean." Now all the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there would spend their time in nothing except telling or hearing something new. So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: "Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: 'To the unknown god.' What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for "'In him we live and move and have our being'; as even some of your own poets have said, "'For we are indeed his offspring.' Being then God's offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man. The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead."

Acts 17 refers to pagan idols that were literally worshipped as gods (offered sacrifice), not statues of Saints. Secondly, when it says, "God dwelleth not in temples", it means He who is infinite cannot be confined to space; nor stand in need of what human hands can furnish. Temples are not for God, but for man. It is the latter who derives assistance from them. God’s ultimate dwelling place is in heaven. And on earth, given his omnipresence, he is not limited to human places of worship. That is St. Paul’s meaning.
On Paul’s second missionary journey, he traveled to Athens, where the pagans worshipped multiple gods. It was clear that the “human hands” Paul spoke of were the hands of the pagans worshipping false gods in these structures.
His belief in the Real Presence and the priesthood are evident elsewhere in his writings. For example, Paul could only have in mind the Real Presence when he asked, “The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?” (1 Cor 10:16).
Also consider, “Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself . . . For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself” (1 Cor 11:27-29).
Paul and Barnabas] returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God. And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they believed. (Acts 14:21-23)
Elders here is translated from the Greek word presbyterous, from which we get the English word “presbyter,” the official name of the office of a Catholic priest.
Paul expected Titus (and others) to do likewise: “This is why I left you in Crete, that you might amend what was defective, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you” (Ti 1:5). www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/was-paul-anti-catholic

    Commandments from God (Exodus 20:3-6)
3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
