Living St. Louis producer Anne-Marie Berger visits a shop in South St. Louis that is one of six in the country that restores works of religious art. Michele Bowman-Dumey repairs damaged religious statues and paintings-each takes two months to a year to restore.

Well according to my knowledge of painting statues flat paints are really great. acrylic not so much

Michele, I have watched your statuary repair and am impressed by your work. I do statuary repair. For the gold stenciling on Sacred Heart of Jesus, do you have any methods to repainting the stenciling? I've looked online to find nothing suitable. Through word-of-mouth I have gotten several statues from Priests, religious and referrals. I sand the old paint off antique plaster statues....do you use anything that might work quicker.

Don’t make statues of the father, the son or the Holy Spirit (in man form). They are not visible for us. Making a statue of them is making an image of something we have never seen.
