    Hey guys, I'm thoroughly convinced that no amount of tweaking will get the resources to flow into the Transfer Container evenly and, more importantly, _consistently even._ But I could be wrong.
    It only costs 152 credits to build a transfer container. You can buy the necessary Tungsten at the Mining League in Neon Core and you can buy the Lubricant at Jemison Mercantile in New Atlantis. And you can get the iron for free from your outpost.
    Just saying...
    Have at it. 😎
    Also before you call me a noob for not thinking of a workaround, skip to 19:10

      So now you have to waste 3 outposts, create 1 for every resource, and land on each planet 4 times. Aside from being a pain, I have never stayed on the ship when I land. It always puts me at the center like you mentioned at the end. Why have an easy transfer if you cannot stay on the ship.

    One workaround to the limited transfer container capacity is to run a link from your extractor to storage container, ideally several daisy-chained together, with the last one linked to your transfer container. Then once you empty the transfer container, it's almost immediately refilled from the storage containers.

    • @Shiftry87
      @Shiftry87 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it does but refilling was never the problem. The problem was that if u link more then 1 resource to it odds are that 1 resource will fill up 90% of the storage as he showed which means if u need the other resource its effectivly useless.

    Connect the transfer container to the last solid storage container in the chain from each extractor and you can pull all of the materials THROUGH the transfer container. The issue is that it seems like some resources extract at different rates. However it works fine for me. I take one resource at a time and they continue to extract through the transfer container.

  • @Andy_from_de
    @Andy_from_de 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    There is one scenario where the transfer container is moderately useful, and that is using it as an input node to all different storage types in your main base. When you arrive there with your ship with all kinds of ressources in the hold, just dump from your cargo hold into the transfer container, and it sorts everything into their respective storage. Of course you still have to deal with the 200 limit, but at least you can offload from the comfort of your ship

  • @ardentdfender4116
    @ardentdfender4116 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    The simple thing I do at all my Outposts regardless of how much variation of extraction is going on apart from its Mass Storage is to simply put individual smaller storage units right next to the Ship Landing Pad. An individual storage unit for each resource. You feed it from the bigger storage units and so that if you take anything out it automatically refills. That way you don’t have to run around your base to get the resource from bigger storage units. It’s all right there stacked up in smaller individual container stack at the launch pad. From there I can manually transfer it to ship cargo. Yes, the Transfer Container in its current form is mostly useless, unless you’re just extracting or sending just one resource to it.

    i use the transfer container completly the other way around. Not for getting things out but to put resources in. I link the output line from the transfert container to all kind of storage containers. This gives me a single point to dump my inventory into and all I put in gets autosorted into the storage containers.

  • @daniwanicki
    @daniwanicki 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    The only useful way I can use the transfer container for is quickly dumping loot after missions, you can use it to auto sort items into their respective container (gas, solid, liquid, manufactured component).
    For it to work you have to create the chain starting from the transfer container to each storage type, this makes sure your loot is being output to storage, not storage (like iron, nickel, etc.) being output to transfer container.
    With this setup, put items you want to save for crafting into the transfer container and it will auto sort the items into the proper linked storage, and all of it is accessible for crafting on the outpost. This saves me time from having to manually put items into the right storage. And whenever I want to upgrade weapons, armor, or research, it's all right there.

    I use transfer containers to drop off resources when I come back to my base. They are mostly useless for pulling resources because of the reasons you pointed out.
    Also, you can build your solid storage containers for all your extractors at a common location so you don't have to run around to get the individual resources you are wanting. I keep four rows of containers near the base of my landing pad so I can run to one spot to pull resources. Alternatively, you can try building up to put your transfer container within reach of the top of your pad and then when you want a specific resource, link from the solid (or other type) of container to the transfer container then break the link when done so you just relink containers when you next need resources.

    You don't need to grab the resources at all in order to craft. Every single storage container in your outpost (not crates, containers) are linked to any workbenches there. Container access is not necessary to the process ... you can just run into your hab and get right to crafting. In your use case, the transfer container is a non-problem because it isn't necessary.
    The real problem you're having is the different rates of production of the different extractors. Of course a container will fill up faster with the resources that are produced faster! To even that out, try putting down a couple more aluminum extractors and one or two more for cobalt.
    I suspect Bethesda meant transfer containers to be the deposit point for the end of a manufacturing chain; they were figuring folks would let auto-crafting do its thing, and swing by to pick up a load of the output from the transfer container. I do agree they're pretty bad at anticipating all the different ways players will think of to use stuff.
    Personally I've just been using the thing as a larger general container, because manufactured components fill up those teeny "warehouses" waaaay too fast.

    Also, when you link a bunch of containers of the same type, it should effectively merge those containers into one big storage. I cant tell you how annoying it is to go to the first container in a link of 10, dump resources into it and get the “container is full” that you have to click E to get out of , wait for it to slowly move it or be buggy and not move it for some reason for several minutes, and then open teh container again, dump everything you can in, and then have to E to accept the message that it’s full. Wait a few moments, reopen the container and dump another batch in. Just silly.

    8:24 You connected the extractors to the transfer container! The transfer container only has a small storage capacity of course it's not going to fill up any more than that! You're supposed to connect the extractors to the storage THEN connect the storage to to the transfer container like so: extractor > storage > storage > transfer container. You can then loot the transfer container like any other container, which then REFILLS, drawing from the connected storage, which you can then loot again.

    Yeah, I really thought that the whole point of it in the first place was to act like a "window" so that you could see all of the inventory of everything connected to it at once, instead of having to run around to each individual storage to manage them. I've even tried using console commands to bump up the container limit to really high (like 3000), and it still didn't really make it useful. I'm really not sure what they thought the transfer container was going to be used for, and because you can only have 1 per base, it really is limited in use outside of a single resource. I wound up just putting all of the containers in one spot stacked up right next to the landing pad to keep from running all over the place, but it's still not really ideal.

I use it in bases where I am setting up storage units for items that I have gathered along my travels and hook up storage containers such as the warehouse to store things I have collected. You can access the ships storage from the container and if you set it up to feed into the storage units you can pull things off the ship and they are auto sorted into the correct containers. Anything that doesn't go in a storage unit is left in the transfer container. Just wanted to make sure you knew that the transfer container can also be used in the opposite direction, something you didn't cover in your video. Thanks and keep making wonderful vids.

    Having played Fallout 4 for years, I cannot understand why Bethesda chose to handle resource storage this way. It's really overly complex. I have settled on using transfer contains only for food resources, so that I can craft food items while landed on my ship or a stove at the base. If storage weren't so limited on ships, then your ship could be an effective mobile base. But you either have to max out Payloads or Ship Design or both to get enough storage to practically do so, and then your ship is not good for combat. My base is wholly for storage and crafting, and my ship is for travel and combat. And my character can effectively transfer resources around better than the transfer container. Way too much effort is spent on maintaining resources in this game.

After messing with the transfer container, multiple times multiple ways just like in this video, I decided it was easier and quicker just to stand in front of one vertical row at a time and jump while manually emptying them. This is so much faster and easier than a transfer container lol. Another note: if you use larger storage containers, make sure you link a basic one between your mass storage and the transfer container, the smaller capacity of the basic storage will not overload the storage container and allow you to MASS transfer everything in your base onto your character in seconds. I hope this is clear.

    Half the time you land on an outpost, you get auto booted out of the cockpit and end up beside the beacon. Might as well put one each of your storage containers surrounding the beacon and just link the rest to them. Then at least it is just a matter of taking what you want out of each one. Another big pain is sorting your giant collection of resources of all types into identifiable storage containers. So far I just make a line of storage containers, do not link it to any thing else and dump all my rare and exotics into that, but a time waster for sure.

    Bottom line is if you can have unlimited storage in various containers within the lodge including your personal room and downstairs then why cant you also have unlimited storage in your outpost where you need it most? It's silly really. With a skill upgrade you can have multiple transfer cargo containers which helps but they are all still limited to 200 each. It's dumb.

    No they don't work as required. Bottom line is exactly what you said: Bethesda changing them into a conduit rather than a container is the way to go 100%
    I do use a transfer container but slightly differently. Obviously the below is highly situational and might be of no use to you whatsoever Slack (indeed you might know it already) but it might help someone.
    I needed lots of different additional resources to do research, craft weapon and spacesuit mods etc. So at my base I built a bunch of liquid, gas, solid and warehouse containers to store it all in. But running and dropping off each resource that I had picked up from my ships cargo was a pain. But I then set up a transfer container that linked to all those storage containers. That way I could land with my ship full of resources and funnel the cargo direct into the transfer container which then moved it into the relevant container type automatically without me having to plonk it in manually. It isn't ideal because of the stupid 200kg mass limit means it is a stop start process. But the auto sorting of multiple resources into the correct containers saved me a lot of time.
    So instead of trying to use them to transfer resources *to* my ship I use them to transfer resources *from* my ship. Just a way to get some unintended use out of the stupid things. Once the newly stored stuff is squared away on base the benches will auto use it - as you already pointed out with the industrial workbench.
    Obviously anyone not doing research, crafting mods at their base won't need a reserve of resources. If you do all that kind of researching or crafting stuff on your ship then the ships own cargo hold is doing that job already. But someone storing a lot of different resources for outpost building might find it useful.

    The entire out post system is buggy as hell imo.
    I’ve had similar issues with cargo links and interlinks. If it’s more than one resource things go pear shaped.
    To make things worse, some times things break for no reason and you have to break all the links and start from scratch which is pretty annoying when you have out posts spanning several systems.

    I must admit, as much as I've been loving Starfield, I am getting tired of the bugs, glitches and oversights (like this). I know there's a patch in Beta on PC at the moment but it'll be 3-4 weeks before I see it on console and (from what I've seen) it certainly doesn't address issues like Slack is highlighting here. The transfer container is even more useless given that, if you build all of the workbenches at your outpost and your ship is within 250m, you can access any resources in your ship's cargo hold at the workbench and build whatever you like but, you can't use any workbench on your ship to access your outpost resources without a transfer container (and even then, only the stuff that's actually in the transfer) Add to that, Slack's recurrent issue with the workbench being blocked and unaccusable. In my case, I have a steam vent in the middle of one of my habs and no amount of moving, tweaking or deleting and rebuilding makes t go away. In fact, I have something wrong with my habs in nearly all of my outposts. To be fair, Starfield is probably the least buggy BGS game I've played at release and I've been thoroughly enjoying my multiple playthroughs but I'm getting tired of waiting for some patches to fix some of the issues that do exist.
    At least Slack hasn't got any bugs in him 😜 Great work as always Major.

    I came to the exact same conclusion, it should be a conduit as you put it. I tried looking for mods that do that and the only thing I found at this time is a mod that links all outposts and ship crafting stations. This is a bit reminiscent of how fallout 4 settlement links work, but since the cargo links are not designed to work like that, this mod makes things just a bit too convenient if we take in consideration the "official" game mechanics.

    Agreed they are broken. I used them the other way round, with links FROM the TC to general containers of different types (solid resources, manufactured, liquids, gases). Then, after a mission, just dump all into the TC and it moves them to the right containers. This mostly works, but some things, e.g. Quark Degenerative Tissues block the TC. Sigh !

    I've been implementing cargo-links and transfer containers only with the assumption they will get fixed or improved. Bethesda seems to have relied on a few outdated design choices that IMO were bad then and are still bad now (re: inventory UI design, base and ship building design and QA issues). Let's hope they are serious about supporting the modding community and thank the stars they put in the extra time getting rid of bugs because it's buggy enough anyway.

  • @Khalifrio
    @Khalifrio 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    They really miffed the Transfer Container. All they had to do was take the old Fallout 4 workbench and change the graphic and call it Outpost Warehouse Interface or something. Then just limit it to resources and not accept weapons and such. You walk up to the thing and interact with it and it lists everything you have stored on your outpost.
    I have tried everything as well. It just sucks trying to find a single item in a huge warehouse setup. I have come to the conclusion you need to build containers for each single resource item so you can find what your looking for by going to the specific container stack for that item. To make this easier I make a stack of the largest containers then place a small container for input and another small container for output. Link the stack so the resources move to the top. Then link the top most container to the small output container on the ground.

    Moving the last container was my work around too. Resource management in general needs some attention. As do some known bugs like your ship suddenly being inaccessible or flying away on it's own.
    I followed your tutorial and added in some outpost links to bring in some other resources. Right next to my landing pad I have full containers of about 10 things. It's kinda ugly but Lin is the one who lives there.

    The only thing I noticed, when transferring items from the container to the ship, new resources would immediately appear in the transfer container. My guess is, Bethesda didn't expect anyone to use it with more than 1 type of resource. So, as fast as new resources were coming into it as you transferred to the ship, it probably would be ok if you only had 1 type of resource. I also moved all of my solid storage containers over to the launch pad and stacked vertically with the bottom being the last in the chain, so you could just walk up and grab them easily. I also centralized all of my power since I really don't need to know where the extractors are now.

    Since the tc is so small it makes it pretty much useless. I dont think Bethesda envisioned people trying to make profits from their outposts since you have to jump through so many hoops to make it work from small TCs to vendors not having enough creds to buy all your resources at once. You have to hang out for a few days just to sell all your cargo. I like the game but it definitely needs tweaks in the outpost mechanics of the game.

  • @DarkZed89
    @DarkZed89 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    As an output the TC is absolutly nonesense like its atm. It shouldnt fill up anyway and should just give us a full access to all ressources at the outpost connected to the TC.
    I have a outpost to on Bessel III... 4 ressources plus 3 T1 crafted mats its just useless by that 😂
    But a similar problem is with cargo links too. If you transport more than 1 ressource its wacky transport or not even transport both/more ress 😂

    I personally don't use transfer containers for resources. I use it as a drop off point for all my other stuff I collected, notes, weapons, food, contraband, ect which is connected to the metal storage "chest" that is inside my base and that chest is dasy chained to other metal storage chests. Much more useful, but I agree that it's not the best thought out idea.

    About half the time my ship doesn't land on the pad. Many times its not even in range of the transfer point. Even using a 38 meter ship. The ship building pad only works if you walk up on the pad a activate the upgrade ship and exit out to put ship on that pad. If small pads are limited to 40 meter ship there needs to be a large pad you can build that works. Plus I have more outposts than I am allowed to have small pads, so how can that work?

    'Useless' vs 'Sucks'... not really any difference. And either way, you are correct.
    We can build a freaking landing pad, but we can't be a stupid simple box in which to store sh!t.
    My problem is that due to ANOTHER bug, I can't modify my home ship. I can modify other ships just fine, but every attempt to modify my home ship results in the game crashing. So, it's easy enough to make the ship I want to edit 𝘯𝘰𝘵 my home ship and then make changes. But since my ships don't have the same cargo size, it screws up 𝘢𝘭𝘭 my cargo (there's also bug where misc items get duplicated - so annoying). When I build an outpost, I should be able to build a simple fucking container that works just like the ship cargo. It's mind-boggling that we can't do this. Yet, my character can carry 1200 kg. Yes, I know about the unlimited storage in the Lodge, but that's a long walk.
    So, I guess Bethesda figures that as we move forward in time, the human race forgets how to efficiently store crap.

    The only way it works as designed is to connect (storage, not extractors, full containers fill up the transfer container faster) then use manage mode to connect whatever resource you want to the container, then delete that connection and attach the next resource, not very practical, and as soon as you connect a storage, it will fill the transfer container so unless you need that many, you will have to either drop or somehow get rid of the excess before connecting to the next resource, so no, I don't use it much either for multiple resource bases, and yes, what is needed is a conduit, not a temporary storage.

    Thanks for pointing this out, and I agree. Bethesda should patch this to be essentially like a workbench: you can pull any resources into your ship that a workbench could pull.
    EDIT: Is it possible to mod the storage limit of the container to unlimited? It may not be the best solution, but if it was the final point for all storage containers, it then could fill up infinitely. It's not just a conduit (which would be the best solution) but I would think that would be the best solution if the storage capacity it editable.

    transfer containers are a waste of time. For Besel 3B, just build a 4 seperate large solid storage units - right next to the outpost beacon (where you will spawn) - link each storage stack at your extractors to a unique large storage unit by the outpost beacon. when you land you can collect the materials you need without havng to run around the perimiter. I agree, the transfer containers should just be a conduit

    My suggestion for your storage is to build them next to your landing pad. Stack the containers 2-3 high with a final one on top that'll be the transfer end container and have it popping just above the landing pad so you can loot them all from the edge without having to get off and run around. I tend to 7-9 tier 3 containers at most of my bases. With a couple outpost setups with the containers used as walls around the outpost creating a walled base.

I mean, I can manually extract stuff from it, but that defeats the purpose when I can't do it from the ship. Going back to the start of your video, why didn't you just set up all your storage containers in a central location and just have longer output links since that makes no difference? instead of running from area to area lol

    i've had similar experience with them, your idea of them being a conduit sounds much better. the container connect is glitchy as well and sometimes the chain bugs out; forgot to add, cargo links have a resource prioritization issue as well with multiple resources, it not a even distribution on shipments, worth a look later i suppose
