This game is underrated for speed running. I like watching this just as much as the original SM64, maybe even more because the characters add a lot of versatility to the route
I speedrun. SM64 16 star but I grew up with SM64 DS and looking at both 100% runs (120 and 150) I can safely say SM64 DS can be optimised way more , but this run is really good Congratulations! 💜

@@johnelway76 Bugs part is fair for speedrunners. "Is original" is a shit reason. :P DS version is a richer experience. Edit: But it could use a control improvement.
See with less bugs you as a apeedrunner can't do as much as far as new strategies and runs. In OG SM64 the core strategies get rearranged so often that it's always interesting. Patching games is generally good but sort of puts its speedrunning on rails

There’s actually a shortcut in warios boss fight. If you use the sign next to you when you spawn, do a backflip on it and go to the land. It’s not used for speedruns, but if you are a player who struggles throughout the level, that’s a simple strat.
Sm64 Ds is one of my most played Mario games of my life. I got a 3ds on my 3rd birthday and got Mario 3d land and Mario 64 Ds with it, and when I first beaten sm64 ds, I was like “this game is my life!” And then I beaten the game so many times more than I can imagine with 150 stars and then I did a speedrun in 2016 and got a 3:42:xx (I forgot the seconds) and to this day I wonder if that was possibly close to a WR because I never knew anything about SM64DS speedrunning at that time
The 2 reasons we do this is because we can avoid having to fight bowser in dark world which saves lots of time. Also because we want to unlock mario as fast as possible and doing basement first is a faster way to unlock him since the stars are a bit faster

I don't get how you learned all these tricks. There are like few to no video's about speed running tricks in SM64DS smh The one I'm curious most about, is how you climb up such a steep slope at 1:17:27 without TA
I've been playing the game for a couple years and we have a speedrunning discord where we share strats For steep slopes you can roll your finger from A to B to slidekick and recover quickly
I don’t understand why you leave stars and return to do things later. Surely running around the castle to previous areas you already mostly cleared wastes precious minutes.

I haven’t played this game that’s all, I was simply looking to see what the differences were between this and the N64 games. They were patched in the Shindou version of the original game, and SM64 ds was built from scratch.
