I definitely wasn't expecting YOU to show up here, Malleo. Also, when you're done with the 100% Paper Mario TTYD TAS (and possibly needing a break) will you make a Glitchless TAS on TTYD or an All Bosses TAS for Paper Mario 64? No rush.
It cannot be overstated how monumental of an achievement this is. This is quite possibly the most impressive and entertaining TAS ever made. Each programming quirk in this game is exploited by orders of magnitude far beyond what any sane person would regard as possible, sequencing together a breakneck montage of obscenely tight routing and movement that never ceases to astound with each viewing. This satisfies one of those elements of my inner child closest to the core - witnessing one of my favorite games ever, one that I hyperobsessed over as a kid, be completed virtually as optimally as possible. Thank you, zelpikukirby, for creating what will forever be one of my favorite experiences. You are one of my favorite people.

This is a historic moment in video game history. Commented this on WIP 10, but I need to say it again: Thank you for the effort you put into this incredible TAS. This will go down as the best tool assisted speedrun ever made, mark my words.
@vHermanYT Tool assisted speedruns (TAS for short) are different than regular speedruns in that they get to use whatever external tools (i.e. save states, slowing down the game to a crawl, or even as much as frame-by-frame input) to make the most perfect theoretical run possible, usually for the purposes of entertainment or just showing off what is the absolute maximum the game can be taken to.
Was wondering at 22:40 why I heard a blue coin noise before watching the heavens plop one down in Mario's lap lol, didn't even notice the shot upwards. This TAS is full of moments like that and it's amazing to see just how optimized it is for its sheer length. Fantastic tas! Been waiting a long time for this one.

I've been watching sms runs for years now and I have no idea what is happening in so much of this. So many years of optimization and research for new tricks this is beyond incredible. Also a lot of extra style and swag too. You're amazing zelpikukirby
I just encountered this today. I watch TAS's more regularly than most so I was just in the camp of "ok, this is a solid TAS, not bad" until the point in Gelato Beach when you used a single spray to send one coconut into the blender for a blue coin and the other to setup for a perfect Shine 8 skip. That's when I knew this would be something special. This is imo, just flat out the best TAS ever made. I am BEYOND flabbergasted that this was done by a single author, in any amount of time. I do not have the proper words to express how in awe I am of the creativity at play throughout.
100% this comment. I've been obsessively watching all kinds of TASes since 2009, including SM64 0xA ILs that used to get maybe 20 views per video, Sonic 3 All Rings WIPs, Super Monkey Ball Score WRs, etc. Of years and years of content that I've watched, Zelpikukirby is still perhaps the greatest author I've ever come across. Zel has the mechanical wizardry of a pannenkoek2012 mixed with the routing and execution of goddamn Scattershot. Frankly unbelievable set of skills.
to think over twenty years ago enjoying long playthroughs as a child to now being a grown adult seeing it absolutely DEMOLISHED in the most optimal manner. I love it.

It's been two months since this came out and I've watched this in full at least once a week. Every time I watch it, I discover aspects of the run I hadn't thought of yet and see how the routing and movement handles everything so seamlessly. Like one viewing I kept in mind water management, and it is SO OPTIMIZED but you would NEVER be able to tell because zelpikukirby never ever skips a beat. This last one, I noticed just how many times collectible text boxes are stacked on top of each other, like in Gelato Beach 5 and Sirena Beach 100-Coin. The game awareness and creativity required to think of all these little time saves is superhuman!!
finally finished the vid, great job man! would be dope if you did something akin to a Q&A, I am curious what the hardest part of the TAS was, what your favorite shine was, etc. could be a great way to interact with your audience as well.
My favourite childhood game has now had one of the best TAS, if not THE best TAS runs ever created for it, and it's far beyond what I ever could have imagined. Thank you zelpikukirby!
58:28 Mario stands on nothing in Sirena 4 1:41:18 - 1:42:36 Mario warps through space and time several times in Pianta 8 and Secret. If anyone who understands SMS TASes could explain these moments to me that would be appreciated, because I'm very confused.
The first one can actually even be done RTA, all you have to do is spin the camera around at the beginning so its looking backwards. As to why it works, no clue. The second one is beyond me entirely. Never even seen it before. My only guess is that it has something to do with warping to the dandelions, which I think may be a thing but idk for sure.
@@formerlyknownasmousecopp4367 If my memory serves me right (though it has failed me more than I would like to admit), I'm pretty sure the Sirena 4 one has to do something with the fact that the two blocks at the beginning hid the third block over that gap from camera, and turning the camera angle immediately will keep it away from the camera's periphery, which fails to load the block's position/path correctly, so when you first jump onto it's path, I guess the game is recognising that it's supposed to be in that position even though graphically it is not?? (Maybe I'm using horrible terminology). As the the ones in Pianta, I believe in one of the previous WIP, it was mentioned that when the dandelions disappear, they don't technically just disappear for good, but respawn back to a pre-determined spawn point. Thus, when Mario grabs a hold of one right before it disappears, he spawns to that position as well.
Coming from many years of analyzing speedruns of all sorts, the pianta ones look like zips out of Sonic 2. For example, the first one looks like he clipped into something, and as with mario games such as mario 1, when you clip into objects, nintendo made it to where if you're in an object, you get pushed out. Maybe this is something like a mario 3 where you just clip into the object and suddenly youre pushed in. I am really curious to know how close I am. What I am assuming is happening, is since this is 3d instead of 2d, the y-axis is always known to be like super buggy and it just doesn't know where to put mario, so it has some kind of default position to send him or shoots him up until he's no longer lodged into things. Looks like multiple frame perfect shenanigans. The second one looks like warping shenanigans. Remember, sms warps the camera around a lot and there may be some kind of exploit to where if you do it fast enough, the game won't know where mario is and instead of warping the camera to mario, it warps mario to the camera. These are guesses. I have no idea, but I am curious to see how it goes. Linkus just released a video on it though. Check his out and he breaks it down.
@@DevilWearsAdidas Kinkus had no idea what was going on but his chat called them "tree warps" and said that the fluff is used in both levels (since TAS grabs Pianta Secret in 8) My guess after watching it in slow motion is that the fluff grabbox extends downward vertically and Mario is able to grab them from far below with frame-perfect timing (similar to how other speedruns abuse downward hitboxes and loading zones).
@@musicmashups Yea, it could also be from speed mashing hover nozzle or something. He did something like that in the run iirc. I'm sure someone will explain it sooner or later.

Just leaving my comment on this piece of speed running history 💯
