Every time I see Billy Corgan, I am amazed and impressed how much the guy is together, smart and articulated. Very smart guy that also happened to make, with his band, some of the most defining and ground breaking music of my generation (gen x). Amazing human, we need more in music and in positions of power too.

I remember recording a couple of gigs with the video function on my tiny Sony digital camera at one point. Probably only ever re-watched it a few hours after the gig and then never again. From my own personal experience I have much better and vivid memories of the gigs I just experienced than those I recorded.

I saw them at Lollapalooza too during that year when they headlined and I was very disappointed because they played only 2 and a half songs because they were high, etc.. Fast forward 20 years I saw them at a small venue in SF where they destroyed, played all their hits, and even apologized for their 'Pre-Madonna Behavior'!!...LOL.

Great show. Nicole, I liked the observation and question regarding the timelessness of SP's music. So much nostalgia in these songs...good memories...the painful ones, too. Nights going down the road wiping tears off your face or days in the sun kicked back on a lawnchair with a cold beer. The Pumpkins are a part in all of our lives. I'm really happy to see Billy doing his thing. Ran into him in a arcade once. Remember those? I was playing pinball and he asked he could play next. I told him he could play right now. I remember going to see them back in the day in Seattle and the crowd just went off for Iha. Like chanted Iha after every song and Billy just got more and more pissed. It was awesome even Iha just ducked. Billy is a legend! Funny how he talks about fame and recognition.
Their sound, and quality of their songs was never the same after that breakup. 10 years of great songwriting & great recordings. You can't really ask for much more.

Dave's daughter Violet was a massive part of the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert and Dave introduced her with a lot of pride. He's also released covers with her. His kids were present in a documentary the Foo Fighters made about their Wasting Light album because it was recorded in a studio at Dave's home. Lots of funny moments where Dave had to switch from rock star mode to dad mode. If you dislike the man then that's completely fine, but your criticism of Dave here makes zero sense.

SP was more of a proper alt rock band with the new wave, pop, goth and metal influences. And Prince obviously down with the funk/r&b scene before he took his own direction with it, too.
Billy makes a good point about the 90's not having a second act. Everyone pretty much agreed that the 90's died when Kurt Cobain died. For me that never made sense. I liked every major and minor 90's band, except Nirvana. To me they were just fake. The death of Layne Staley hit me harder, even if it was no great surprise.

It was on Kroq at the age of 12 while visiting L.A. that I first heard the Smashing Pumpkins. It changed my life.

I saw the SP show in Nov which I enjoyed. But I think I might actually prefer to see Billy perform solo with an acoustic guitar as he does here.
