Hey Brian I like the return to basics I think it would be helpful if you went over materials to use like wax and grease removers tapes masking materials just stuff to help on prep. I used plastic once and had paint flakes blowing off into my clear.
Man I know that feeling. On a quick note, it expanded my vocabulary.

Without a clear coat, I would imagine its a different procedure all together?

Great vid.Again! To be double sure about long term clear cost adhesion and also using fine as possible paper (1000) to avoid any chance of sandscratches, wondering what you think about using a fine coat of adhesion promoter before clear coat????

I would just stick with the 800
After the base coat I rattle can an acrylic lacquer clear coat on the side of a truck
4 coats. What is the minimum time to wet sand and polish? i really don't want to wait

Can we prep the base area with 320 grit followed by 400 and 600 grit respectively and prep the blend area with 800 grit?
Is there any difference using a 6 inch DA with interface over a 5 inch DA with interface as far as results and area covered?
I have a question, I started a body and paint shop earlier this year. I have already grown past the order paint and wait phase of the company and need a mixing rack. Any recommendations on paint to use and how to go about getting it? This channel has help me out a few times already. Keep up the great videos.
You’ll have to contact the paint jobber like finish master or kemperlee to get setup but it’s extremely expensive
The shop I work at uses spies Hecker. Really quality stuff
Brian what’s your thoughts on using 3m scuff it and a gray scotch brite on a blend panel? The tds claims it’s good for that.

Hi! Do you need to clean surface with solvent first also on the zones you are going to apply a filler, primer or sealer to, or only the ones that are going to directly receive base/clearcoat? Thanks!

Still amazes me how the clear coat looks after sanding a panel.
So you would apply the base color halfway the panel to blend then cover the rest with clear over the scuffed area? But wouldn't it look different?
That’s why it’s a blend ,it’s more of so.. an illusion ofc the colors are different but the illusion it creates, you won’t see it
Yes exactly like that it wouldn't look different if your base color closely matches with the old paint.check out is other videos on how to blend on panel
FYI, the Assilex system creates scratches that are one step coarser than the given grit. So, his 800 is the same as a 600.
Totally wrong Kent. It cuts at the speed of a p600 but leaves a 800 grit scratch.
You're right. I did miss type that. But, the point was the same in that it cuts faster than what's on the box.
Got a question, can i put clearcoat on a primer? As i want a primer gray color on my car
Buy gray color base coat thats easy problem...

You can get away with it but you'll need a clear coat for sure (UVprotection) 2-3 coats
Here in UK it would be madness to sand and paint half the whole car when you just need to paint one new panel.
I need some help right now. I’ve been having issues with black cars… I sand with 800 scuff with grey scuff and can still see scuff marks or haze under the clear coat after I lay it down. It’s killing me man. I use Mirka products. And wipe water cleaner then w&g with micro fiber.
On blend panels.. or??? Are u seeing those scuff marks everywhere on the job or in certain spots?

@@ricardorivera2836 hmmm. That’s kind of weird. A good high solids clear can cover 400 grit wet so idk why u still see scuff marks with 800. If you got Facebook join paint society group and ask that question on the group. I never seen or ran into a issue like that before

It’s a blend panel
You're right, the panel is totally fine.
The car is painted in a silver colour, all silvers are a especially tricky when it comes to colourmatch.
The trunk got a new part, which needed to be painted, for good colourmatch, Brian will paint both rear panels partially (blend).
Brian sanded the panel, without sanding through the clearcoat, so he can blend properly in areas adjacent to the trunk.
So the panel will be covered only partially in colour, but entirely in clearcoat.
Why not sand your edges by hand first so you do not need a second pass with your D/A?
So that you can see exactly how much more you have to sand
what causes tiger stripes
Spraying the base coat to heavily on the edges of the spray pattern and not going back over it with a drop coat to cover up the stripes
And or color coverage isssue with the base coat

you dont have to water sand?
While you can still water sand, it is simply not necessary, or even counter productive to do so.
Sanding by hand always leaves deeper scratchmarks than with a machine, and you have to get rid of the water/dust. While a lot of machines come with a suction tube, so getting rid of the dust isn't that big a deal.
There is a sanding paper use for blending panel... we called it superfine or ultrafine... this process dry sanding...

@@tabbyaslan114 Brian uses P800 sandpaper, for both (the machine & hand).
Also he uses a soft pad for both, which decreases the aggressiveness of the sandpaper.
Superfine & Ultrafine isn't a good indicator, to the coarseness of a sandpaper. Often it is comparable to P2000 to P4000, that is used in buffing or in blending clearcoat.
great vid. Also, if you dont want to sand through the clear scratch pad the edges, corners and bodylines with 1000 grit grey scratch pad. the scratch pad will scratch the clear not sand any mil thickness (burn though). Also, great protection of other panels and conv. top. this is very educational.
