Very technical and you broke it down in a simple way, really knocked it out of the park. Also I liked seeing it all come together and how you mimicked that factory finish perfectly! Keep up the good work!
Hi Brian, just had to say that was the best explanation of blending I have ever see. I have been a painter for a long time, opened my first shop almost 50 years ago. Unfortunately back then we did not have all the fabulous chemicals you have available today, they would have been such a blessing for the thousands of blend jobs I did for Braman in Miami. It was a lot of NC Lacquer and very slow thinners, so perfect jobs were difficult with our frequent weather changes I still love to do bodywork and paint but I don't have a professional booth nowadays, since retiring and selling the last business decades ago. I noticed you have an Acura shirt and work at the Pembrook Pines Dealership, I'm in Palm Beach now but lived in PP about a mile from your shop. I would love to shake your hand someday, no problem if you put on gloves and wear that HD Mask and a Trevek suit. (;-) Keep safe, Gary
Hi. That’s awesome. You can send me a message on Instagram and if you’re around you can always stop by. Thank you for your hard work in this business when products were far less advanced.

Thanks Brian, I've been painting cars on the side off and on for over 40 years. I only do my own vehicles now and there is always new products/processes in place when I start a new job. Thanks for the refresher course.
Thankyou for these life changing videos. It was an icing on the cake noticing we have the same guns I’ve been a painter since July not by choice but our painter left I was his helper. Started working at a body shop 3 years ago sweeping.
I stumbled on to your channel today. I have been in paint for 40 years or so. I found the way you explain each step very interesting. Just because someone is very intelligent or talented doesn't mean they can teach others what they know. It takes a special person to be able to teach/transfer your knowledge to your students. Looks like you have that ability! 👨🎨👍
Thank you for your time in producing this guide. I’ve been trying to do this for years, just painted a fender ( bumper, where I come from!) following your advice I got perfect finish... Wahooo.

Thanks for showing! I am an ammateur at car painting but I think it is really fun! I am working on my volvo 740 that has a long deep scratch on the right side so I've sanded it all down, fixed small rust spots and filled it in. Will paint it in spring when the temperature gets hotter and this was well needed to know how to properly do it👍
Hey Brian, just want to say thank you for your simple and straight forward instruction and concept based explanations. IMHO silver metallic is the most difficult to blend. And you just NAILED IT on that Acura. Nicely, nicely done!
One the best teachers out there. Very professional. Great work. Great sayings. “It’s just paint” and “The learning doesn’t stop after the video is done”

Great job on that blend. You chose silver (a challenging color) so it would show any defects. Can you make a video about how to blend even smaller damage on a large panel? Like a golf ball sized or tennis ball sized smart repair on the middle of a hood? Thanks for taking the time to produce and edit these videos.
Excellent video. I've been a painter for over 30 years and enjoy learning new tricks/techniques from people like you. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Brian, I am a novice diver and I have painted some of my own projects so I'm always watching out for the next tips. I have never seen anything more simply explained. I just stumbled onto your channel and it was a good accident. It doesn't matter how many times you say " I'm getting it " you prove there is always more to learn. I like your energy and enthusiasm. Keep the great work going. New sub!
I have stumbled upon your channel at the right time. I’m just getting into painting again after about 30 years away from it and your channel and how-to’s are a Godsend. I’m getting fairly consistent results now but still struggle when things get wonky. I will be needing the blending techniques shown in this video pretty often in my flip projects. One thing I would love you to cover is paint matching for the DIY’er. I’ve been getting base just using the manufacturer paint code and they’ve been ok (blendable) until my last project. Apparently GM changed the formulation so much that I can’t really even blend it. Consequently I’m having to do a sand and paint on the whole car. Is there a way for a consumer to get an exact match without taking the car to a body shop for paint?
I’m glad you’re getting back into painting! For the diy you’re at the mercy of the paint shop. Some matches are good but most aren’t. I suggest you find a good jobber that will go the extra mile and show you the chips to help you match the color. It’s best to bring a part of the car in. Fuel door is ideal.
@@PaintSociety Thanks, Brian. I'll give that a try next time. Hopefully with the blending techniques you are showing it will keep the painting to an absolute minimum.
watched a lot of your videos and learned from them,i want to thank you because im about to start my dream job next week working at custom bike and rod shop, that is what i have always wanted to do and i am very excited ,hopefully i can learn more from my new employer he is a master builder, anyway thanks and keep the videos coming
I was an apprentice in vehicle painting for 5 years ...now it seems 2 years watching makes you fully skilled, colour matching seemed impossible to most, went to 1 week courses at General motors and ICI to learn all this , i was paid very little for my skill , now , wow , i was born too soon .
I just did this process. Way better than my approach I've done before. I'm not gonna lie, I was worried wvery step of the way but for silver I will never use another system. Ty
Great content !! Love watching these .. I'm learning alot I'm starting to get into professional paint work and just need to learn as much as possible..
Another excellent instructional video. Thanks to you I got up the nerve to try a base coat clear coat repaint on a badly pealing hood on a silver 2006 Jeep Liberty and it came out amazing even though it was painted under a fold up awning in the driveway. I'm going to try some blending of the fender flairs and window sills on it now thanks to your very good how to on the subject. Thanks Brian. PS i have never painted car body parts before this. only sprayed small parts and things around the house. So proof that your passed on knowledge works for the beginner.
I have a Benz shop (BenzCareAuto), not a painter at all, in fact high end auto computer electronics mostly, but you helped me tremendously with the small things I have to do. Thanks so much!
Dude! That is dope. The reducer was something i never heard of and the way the cloth fell off the fender was flawless! No grit or grime. Slow is fast. Awesome!
i have a personal project coming up that's going to involve blending a repair area. I had already purchased some clear base, spot blender, and my metalic base. Primer is done, and I was trying to solidify my strategy on how to make this look as good as I can. My thinking was on the right track, but your video made me realize there might be more steps to completion than I thought! Oh, and another thing I picked up was you were using a finer grade of sandpaper than I thought I could use and get good adhesion. 👍👍👍👍
I commented on one of your other videos just the other day. You are a patient outstanding teacher. You have a great way of talking to people and just making people I think feel at ease. I spray the same Sikkens paint system. I just sprayed a 2021 Tahoe today basically the same exact repair with the same blend room that you just showed. I used the same techniques except I didn't have to mix the base with the clear base. It was 384 a and there's only two variations. Standard and darker and I went with the darker and I still had to turn my gun down to 17 lb to get it to not pop in the sunlight. I enjoy your videos and I really appreciate you taking the time like you do to educate people. I wish I would have had your videos when I was first starting! Job well done sir always.
Ive watched a couple of your videos, and i can't believe how detailed you explained all of the painting steps. You did an excellent job. Im a newbie to this, so i have absolutely no experience. I just brought me an atom x16 mini-spray gun and plan on learning how to repair paint jobs, beginning on my own car, which has a silver metallic coat. But the biggest challenge for me will be is working without a garage and in an area outside where there are lots of trees, so I expect to pick up dust debris throughout the process.
I gotta say, you are the most helpful body work guy I've seen. I'm currently fixing the rusted out spots in my fenders and rocker panels. This is my VERY FIRST TIME ever trying body work. I like this video because I don't have the time or weather to do an entire panel. I'm only at the stage of prepping the surface and feathering the paint edge. I can only pray I get half the results you do. I'll try to send pics of the finished product hopefully for some tips on how to fix it, lol.
Great video. Thanks for posting. Just sprayed my jeep hood in my garage. The clear was peeling away. Amazing, not even a fly came by to visit and the overspray was next to nothing with the HVLP gun. Turned out great. The effort wasn't really any more than doing a good wax job and buff.
#1: You can paint my tractor or truck any day rattle can or pro. J/S I don't say that lightly. #2: I don't want to waste money on products that I don't need (Typical foobar I fall into) I have so many different painting projects on our farm and will love them but scared to actually do them. My fav thing to do is wet sanding. #3: your show ROCKS! I can't get enough of it! More please!!! ❤
I found some good tips here. I do cabinet and furniture finishes but videos like this help me. I look at everything you do and use what suits my business. Thanks
So much great info in this video. Blending solvent, blending clear, using spray out panels, sanding out the sealer, blending additive. I'm totally wowed by the concept of using slow reducer regardless of temperature. I love this this video. It is like advanced training for painters. I didn't even learn this in the Collision Repair program. You are the best.
Good afternoon Bryan, excellent results. I would not cut yourself short, that is definitely expertise and experience. You did not learn this procedure last night. Thank you for sharing your tips and techniques. Have a good one. Take care.
Thanks! I guess what I’m trying to say is I learned it on my own and with no special training to do so. I try to stay humble and I would love for everyone to get out there and try.
Some of the best videos I have seen period! Been building my own custom cars, trucks and motorcycles for over 30 years (I do it all from mechanics to body and so on) and paint has always been my nemesis, these videos have made things more clear than anything I have been taught or shown before, the techniques make sense the way you explain them, TY a ton brother!
Awesome info! Thanks and we want more. I recently painted a 68 F100 all over. It’s been a while since I’ve painted. Burned through the clear and he’d to repaint. I didn’t use sealer and had a wrinkle around the blend. Had to wet sand and re shoot. It played down nice. Wish I’d seen this video before… It’s just paint.
i don't even know how I got to car painting while this was on in the background, but I caught the last min and a half or so, and ya got a thumbs up from me to help ya out, If you hear it calling, go for it brother. As we become the elders of our tribes, its a natural progression to teach, and if you get there sooner, you and quite a few others will benefit. Maybe you needed to hear that, or maybe I needed to say it and thats how I went from Terrence McKenna and fractals to some deep end of the pool clear coats. Paint on Brother!!
@@PaintSociety You seem to be well on your way. Best wishes for your continued success. I'm not a car painter myself, but I dig your enthusiasm!! I did however see some really neat new car paints since I stumbled upon this. You should definitely do some videos on the ones that "flip" or "chameleon". I know folks into hot rods and RC cars, which are huge business nowadays would really like those. Give it a go, who knows what fortunes you will find along the way. Call it a hunch, but some cool RC paint jobs in those cool paints might turn into something really cool for you. Here's to hope anyhow. Much love ✌️
I wish you lived in my area. You take your time and you care about the quality of your work. I would pay twice the price to have someone like you repair my vehicle. Good job, sir.
Subscribed - I am a DIY car enthusiast with basic painting skills. I have only done full vehicle paint jobs - 2010 Honda van, 1992 Chevy S-10 Resto-mod, 1979 International Scout ii.... But I am now presented with a new challenge. A repair to the rear fender. I am worried about the color blend. Your video has given me some confidence and I will be knocking this out next month. Until then, I will be practicing on some test panels. Thanks again!
Thank you, RR 2019 mustang with a keyed rear quarter panel, I had tried 2 times before I got your help, I am using rattle cans with ground and mid coat. Adding the blend agent work perfect. Thanks again Bob Ward
Thank you! I have learned a lot. My mistake in blending metallic was I did not use a clear base coat. SO I ended up with the bad blend edge. I will sand it down again and make use of the clear base coat. I will post my progress on my channel. Currently working on my Audi S4 rebuild. You will love it you see my home made paint booth... hehe .. Thanks again for your content! Keep it up :)
I'd never heard of clear base until I stumbled onto this video. I've just been and bought some today and looking forward to trying it on my next silver job. Thanks a lot my friend 👍🏼
Yo that blend technique was incredible i just used it and i am so excited my blend never look so good on BMW silver and it worked perfectly and i used Bulldog for my clear base. Thank you for sharing the knowledge. I so grateful.
I would like too take a minute to thank you for your videos they have taken my painting to a complex level. And that’s a good thing. I have been away from painting for many years and the old school way I did my painting was so much more basic. I always shot oil base after shooting my color when I needed to blend yep you know where this is going I would mix paint with hot thinner to blend. I really like the way your doing this but your loosing me on base coat clear coat and all the other coats. Please show an older man why the industry has decided to go this direction. My painting experience was pretty simple sand, fill, primer, sand and shoot the color. I’m not wanting to piss you off I’m just old school trying to figure out you hot shots that are now kicking my butt with the new way of making customers happy at the end of the day you can be the best but if you’re customers think you stink then you can’t teach dummies like me why you need 4 different paint guns to do what I used to do with one. Much Respect thank you for doing what you very good at. RR
Awsome Brayn I'm from costa rica your videos been helping me a lot . Work in a little nice garage and I been practicing your tips very sucrfully . Just want to say thanks .
Im a custom sign painter, airbrush artist, pinstriper and of late ive been asked to custom paint bikes and completes on hotrods etc. Really enjoying your tutorials. Like to see you do some work with flakes and candies if thats your gig. Cheers
Thanks for your time! If it wasn't for guys like yourself, I would not be able to do what I do with my Ghetto Hooptie! It's so satisfying to see the end results... it's far from perfect but I like it and in the end that's all that matters...
Thanks again Brian! 925 painter east Bay Area California loves the information and I am trying to apply for my first automotive entry level paint job. This is so hard to fined entry level positions open in this industry.
Thank you for the very helpful tips. I have painted cars , however , I watched your video with a novice attitude as things and materials etc. have changed a lot.
I loved this video and appreciate your humble presentation. I gotta tell you that there were a lot of terms there that are just over my head. I will continue to watch and learn little by little. Primer, sealer, reducer are some things kinda getting confused on their purpose.
You are a great teacher hope to see you at some community college one day. Your explanation is well understood than the gunman but he is ok to watch too
Wow... OK. Brian, you started with the DIY statement (and actually ended with it also), and then, I saw the guns you were spraying with ;-) Doesn't matter in this case, if anything the setup that no DIY guy would own was not something that the work depended on, though it was a bit of a distraction (the lit gun made what you were working on look different on camera making it look like you screwed it up till the gun was gone out of the shot). Spraying the clear base for both, tinting and especially sanding the sealer was brilliant. I recently did a similar repair on the bed of my truck (in the driveway ;-) couldn't get it in the garage), and this would have solved my 2 issues: 1- I gave up on blending upward, I ran out of room, sanding the sealer would have fixed that, and 2- I could never get rid of the sandy edge and kept getting "you need to use more reducer/blending agent..." I'm betting that having a wet edge to spray into would have fixed that. 2 questions: 1- should you scuff the rest of the panel before this kind of blend? 2- would you still recommend the super slow reducer to thin when doing this kind of thing outdoors or in a garage (the mobile bodywork world is all about super fast reducers dry things fast not to give trash and bugs time to get stuck)? What would I like to see? You know it's going to involve cheaper, more DIY friendly guns ;-) My biggest issues are textured finishes. Sometimes I just end up with heavy orange peel and can't get rid of it. Less often I end up with a dry finish/sandy texture and when I try to put more down to get rid of it it goes from dry to having a run. How do you deal with these problems, especially the orange peel, especially with cheaper guns (are cheaper guns the problem?)?
1) you always want the panel to be completely scuff. Outdoors you probably should get a medium reducer to help get that paint dryer. Sooner 2) it’s hard for me to say how those guns work because I have never sacrificed on tools. You might be getting that orange peel because you don’t have the fluid wide open with the pressure pumped up? What gun exactly are you using
Thanks i rarely watch youtube unless need too. Went school autobody and paint years ago. Got van want to do various paint ideas. Wstched few your videos. Helped a lot thanks

I've used the blending clear as well but never in between all coats of base. I like that. I like how you mixed a bit of base with the blending clear. Great job!
Wow, now that is a tremendous demonstration of painting skills. Makes me wonder if I could blend/paint the leading edge of the hood on my black 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. A few large flakes of paint have come off. This damage was hidden behind the plastic rock deflector.
Very technical and you broke it down in a simple way, really knocked it out of the park. Also I liked seeing it all come together and how you mimicked that factory finish perfectly! Keep up the good work!

I was an apprentice in vehicle painting for 5 years ...now it seems 2 years watching makes you fully skilled, colour matching seemed impossible to most, went to 1 week courses at General motors and ICI to learn all this , i was paid very little for my skill , now , wow , i was born too soon .
Really hope these videos can help!!
Thanks Brian. I’m no painter by any means, but with your instruction I feel confident in applying some color to touch up areas.
Thank you so much and I think with all of the instruction from the videos you will have the advantage
I just did this process. Way better than my approach I've done before. I'm not gonna lie, I was worried wvery step of the way but for silver I will never use another system. Ty
Amazing videos as always. So informative. Would love to see an in depth video on tinting if you get around to it
Thanks Jesse! The next problem color I have, I will pull out the camera !
I get a lot out of your videos, Not sure I'ver ever left a comment but you're a a great teacher and the videos are all enjoyable and well done.
Great content !! Love watching these .. I'm learning alot I'm starting to get into professional paint work and just need to learn as much as possible..
Stay tune to channel and to learn a bunch
Same I can lay it on good just need to set the gun right lol
Duide, you're the "Bob Ross" of auto painting. Brilliant job.
Why is Mark Ruffalo painting cars?
I see it
He's gotta be better at painting cars than he is as a comedian. He's about as funny as toothache .......
Great job man I’d like to here about the different air pressures
Will do a video !
When you refer to clear base, is that just regular top coat clear or is that a special type of clear used for blending, etc?
It’s called
Blending additive. It’s clear basecoat
Can you advice what product the blending additive is and how it’s mixed ? Went to my local paint supplier however he hadn’t heard of it
@@derekmoir8015 I saw this online: us.lesonal.com/en/products/additives/basecoat-sb-blending-additive
I have a Benz shop (BenzCareAuto), not a painter at all, in fact high end auto computer electronics mostly, but you helped me tremendously with the small things I have to do. Thanks so much!
I would Like to know what is “clear base”. Thank you!
U.S. Chemical & Plastics 1K SPOT Blender (USC-3680093)
Just ordered a can. it is a base coat with no color .
It's to blend clear so you don't see a line
Spot blender is different and never used on a base coat. Clear base is an actual base paint
@@seanw9412 clear base, does it come in an aerosol can?
I'm astonished by your abilities! You sir truly are a master. I wish there were car painters as good as you in my area...
Dude! That is dope. The reducer was something i never heard of and the way the cloth fell off the fender was flawless! No grit or grime. Slow is fast. Awesome!
Hey Brian great stuff man very helpful plenty of info from you thanks man
i have a personal project coming up that's going to involve blending a repair area.
Thanks so much for your comment Lee!!
Been painting for 33 years. Great video. Easy to mess up blending if you don't know the tricks.
I will be 33 next month. Much respect!!!!
I painted two bumpers by learning from you and they both came out mad good .
Super job! I’m in the process of doing 2 blend jobs on my truck. Just going for it. Thanks for putting this out there!
Thanks
Yes we can all learn from other trades with similar techniques used.
It's one of the most satisfying things to watch. I hope some day I will get a nice gun and learn how to mix. Tired of messing around with rattle cans
Really liking your down to earth teaching style.
Great video. I learned a lot. I've done DIY spraying and never knew how people dealt with the gritty edge
i don't even know how I got to car painting while this was on in the background, but I caught the last min and a half or so, and ya got a thumbs up from me to help ya out, If you hear it calling, go for it brother.
Thanks for the comment. I want to inspire and teach everyone that has a passion for this trade as I do.
Fudge it's complicated! Good result, very useful information. No escaping a need for a great deal of practice.
I wish you lived in my area. You take your time and you care about the quality of your work. I would pay twice the price to have someone like you repair my vehicle. Good job, sir.
Means a lot to me!
Thanks so much Tom. Please let let me know how the blend goes!!
Awesome video. I plan on trying to paint a vehicle down the road and your presentation was very easy to follow. Great job! Thanks.
I'm so glad and blessed that I found someone like u ... slot of your technique made me confident
Dont over think it, just spray it!....well explained in detail 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
That is correct slower is faster been saying that for years glad I found some one that understands what we are talking about
Fewer guys actually understand this concept!
I'd never heard of clear base until I stumbled onto this video. I've just been and bought some today and looking forward to trying it on my next silver job. Thanks a lot my friend 👍🏼
Glad it is helping you out. Definitely need it for silver.
Thank you sir, i learn from your video tutorial more how to paint😊
Aspiring auto painter from phillipines❤
Thank you for the very helpful tips. I have painted cars , however , I watched your video with a novice attitude as things and materials etc. have changed a lot.
I appreciate you watching the videos and still being open to learning after painting cars of your own
I loved this video and appreciate your humble presentation.
I gotta tell you that there were a lot of terms there that are just over my head. I will continue to watch and learn little by little.
Primer, sealer, reducer are some things kinda getting confused on their purpose.
Thanks for that!
You are a great teacher hope to see you at some community college one day. Your explanation is well understood than the gunman but he is ok to watch too
Wow... OK.
Brian, you started with the DIY statement (and actually ended with it also), and then, I saw the guns you were spraying with ;-)
Doesn't matter in this case, if anything the setup that no DIY guy would own was not something that the work depended on, though it was a bit of a distraction (the lit gun made what you were working on look different on camera making it look like you screwed it up till the gun was gone out of the shot).
Sooner
2) it’s hard for me to say how those guns work because I have never sacrificed on tools. You might be getting that orange peel because you don’t have the fluid wide open with the pressure pumped up? What gun exactly are you using
Sweet job good teaching, and prewetting the panel to wet it for the blend, solves a lot of problems in the process Thanks.
Thank you so much for your detailed explanations. You are a natural teacher, and very knowledgeable
You got dope paint skills. You and AHC Garage is starting to be my favorite TH-cam channels.
My employer has told me dbc 500 is your best friend "
I now see the logic
Thanks to both of you fellas
Thanks i rarely watch youtube unless need too. Went school autobody and paint years ago. Got van want to do various paint ideas. Wstched few your videos. Helped a lot thanks
very nice ! You made my Night :) After watching some crazy painters --- Paint LOLOL Im glad you are education people. I was a painter for 40 years and Adult Auto Body instructor for 15 years > What a challenge with Paint sniffers LOLOL But I did have lots of fun ! Keep up the great work !
Thanks a ton,well done .
Love how you make it simple no wasting of filler words
I've used the blending clear as well but never in between all coats of base. I like that. I like how you mixed a bit of base with the blending clear. Great job!
That 1:1 will blow your mind hahah
No question about it you are good, you even have the ability to teach. Keep up the good work. Peace
Thanks!
Wow, now that is a tremendous demonstration of painting skills. Makes me wonder if I could blend/paint the leading edge of the hood on my black 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. A few large flakes of paint have come off. This damage was hidden behind the plastic rock deflector.
