I have been done with GM since 2005. I had a 2003 S10 pick up. After a couple of years the security system would just randomly come on and leave me stranded. Local dealership wasnt much help. They reflashed the computer and that helped for a few months. After I got stuck at a gas pump for 30 minutes because it would not start was the last straw. I got on line and found out this was a common issue and there were thousands of complaints about it. So basically GM knew about it and chose not to do anything about it. I joined the law suite on it but nothing materialized. I then vowed to never own another GM vehicle again. I have a Toyota and a Nissan parked in my driveway now and they have been great.

I had a 99 S-10 used but still under warranty. It would occasionally balk when started. My guess was they used the same junk crank angle sensors as the full size trucks. A dealer replaced the starter instead. It was super clean so I think they really did. It did not fix the problem of course.
The pinion seal was leaking and a different dealer close to me changed it. Good thing I checked the level at the house. It was dead even with the seal, they never topped it up.
It was a pretty good truck. When a fluid change with the expensive GM fluid and a little Lucas didn’t help the hiss in all gears from the transmission I had no sorrow trading it off.

    • @peytonmars806
      @peytonmars806 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

There's a huge difference between planned obsolescence and outright poor design. Planned obsolescence would be designing a vehicle to last only around 3-5 years and 80,000-100,000 miles. Poor design is building something that can't even last as long as the factory warranty without numerous major issues.
We're now in a time where the average vehicle price in this country is $40,000. Preowned car prices are getting higher and higher, as people are unable to afford new at these prices, and with newer vehicles not lasting as long, there are fewer preowned vehicles on the road to get traded in. Now we have 72, 78, and 84-month financing so people can get the payment down to a manageable level-only to end up with a poorly running or non-running vehicle with a year or two left on their note. Eventually we'll start seeing ten year car notes, and most of them getting rolled over when the vehicles wear out and people are stuck buying another one while still on the hook for a third of the financed amount.
This is not just a GM problem, it's spreading to all manufacturers. Design poor quality vehicles, inflate the prices to make the shareholders happy, and inflate them even more to prop up the dealers with warranty and recall work since the dealer margin is usually only enough to pay salesperson's commission. Price everything so high that the finance company (conveniently owned by the manufacturer) makes enough to both get a healthy profit and still pay kickbacks to the dealers and finance managers.
The automotive industry is headed for a collapse.

The current mentality is that you LEASE an expensive new vehicles. If it's a POS like a friend's Mercedes turned out to be, you dump it back on the car company as soon as the lease expires. After 3 years, the repair bills are often as much as a lease.

    • @peytonmars806
      @peytonmars806 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Duke_of_Prunes Unfortunately, you are correct. BMW and Mercedes cars available in the USA are essentially all lease cars. Also unfortunately, no lease on any vehicle, of any class, from any manufacturer would be suitable for myself or my wife, as we both drive way too many miles for a lease to be an economical solution.
I averaged just over 20,000 miles a year with my 2002 Accord, and I drove my 2017 Fusion Hybrid over 26,000 miles in 2019 (fortunately fewer in 2020 and 2021 looks better).
If we tried to lease, we'd be paying out the nose for excessive mileage.

@@robj2704 It really depends on the dealers. Not every one is that way. True they can scam everyone walks in the door. But after a certain time the low reputation will certainly drag the scams down.
When it comes to warranty repairs, dealer actually doesn't mind it at all, as it's being paid by the mfr., and oftentimes no questions asked unless it's a brand new model year or super uncommon failure. If the dealer is having that much trouble fixing his 20' chevy. More than likely it's an uncommon and complex issue with little to no help from the mfr.
Like Steve stated, another GM dealer helped him out, bought the 20' back and put him in a brand new truck. I am certain that he didn't get scammed after walking into the door. Considering I have had fewer GM rentals than Ford, Dodge, Hyundai, Jeep, Mercury, and Nissan. Now for personal vehicles, I stopped buying GMs after 2002 because every single GM I've had built since the early 80s have been inferior in quality to the other vehicles I have owned. By the way, in the 70s I was a devote GM fan.

No matter the brand name on new vehicles I've learned you're going to have issues. Pre 2006 no matter what brand you liked, it had at least one reliable model for you. Too much computer junk on newer ones has destroyed reliability and longevity. When my wife's 2016 Toyota Yaris had the front CV shaft go for the THIRD time at only 110K miles and kept having a random engine die at idle issue they couldn't fix, I got rid of it. ''Newest'' vehicle I own is now 31 years old. At least when they break, I can still fix them myself and part's aren't expensive.

Your issues seem to be an issue across the board. So very sad to see the lack of manufacturer support. In most cases the dealer wants to make it right but the manufactures tie their hands. I was a lifetime Chevrolet customer until GM decided to not honor their warranty and stand behind my 2015 Silverado LTZ crew cab. As a result, GM has lost my business forever and over what? Arrogance and ego! I now drive a 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn and so far, it has been an exceptional vehicle. In my opinion, the Ram is miles ahead of anything else out there. Time will tell if this holds true (25,000 miles on it to date). Congratulations on the Rock 2. I truly hope it works out for you and congratulations to your dealership for his commitment to customer service and satisfaction. GM needs to climb down out of their ivory tower in Detroit and re-evaluate who they are as a company and what kind of products they are conning people into buying. You can only live off of your reputation for a short while until the idiot customers catch on!

My last good GM truck was a 2002, and that one rusted away from the bottom up. By 2005 there wasn't much left of the lower body panels. Three after that all had worse issues.
I now drive a Ford. I'm not sure I could ever buy another GM truck again.
If i could by a brand new 2002, I'd do it in a heartbeat even with the rust issues, but I wouldn't give 2¢ for a newer one.
The guy who bought my 2002 is still driving it, although there's not much left of the body but the 4.8L and 4L60E is still going strong at over 300,000 miles. (It had 265k when I sold it in 2008).

You are lucky to have made it 32,000 miles. I had a 2010 chev 1500 with 5.3, 6 spd auto. I had it 15,000 miles & had 45 computer print out service sheets of problems with the truck. 5 motors, 4 trans, 2 complete wiring harnesses, 4 sets of brakes, 2 sets of air conditioning systems, new rads, 5 rear ends, 2 complete front end, 2 frame replacements. After the last engine replacement, got a call to come pick it up it is fixed. As I was coming in the dealership, I noticed a tow truck with a truck on the back of it. Came in the manager's officer & was told the tech who put the motor in forgot to check if it had oil in the engine. It died on the test drive. That was the final straw. Everybody heard me in the whole dealership. I sued GM Canada & they finally cut me a check for the truck, & lawyers fees. I know exactly what you were going through. Take care & God Bless.

Sorry for your troubles. I bought a 2019 Roush Nitemare that was sitting on the showroom floor for about a year. Found out via you tube that buyers have a hard time getting loans on Roush products because lenders will not value the truck like a Shelby for a bunch of reasons. If the truck is built for example; on a XL vin production number, that is what the banks value it on regardless if it has a supercharger etc. etc. Long story short, I used a chunk of my retirement money to buy it and the AC clutch went out after 2800 mi. I'm now thinking of possibly getting an extended warranty before the window closes. Never again!!!!

Not falling apart and in the shop more time than you actually have it in your driveway and usage. Good video. I was employed by a Chevy dealership in my area for almost 20 years and I will tell you from experience any GM vehicle made after 2005-07 is absolute junk. The newer it is, the worse it is. I left Chevrolet because I got tired of getting chewed out by customers because the car or truck they just spent a small fortune on was breaking down in less than a year. Cars with only 20 or 30k miles needing new engines, brand new trucks with constant electrical issues. Rolling piles of garbage. Forgive me but YES you are a bit of a fool. You traded one turd for another. How much time and money did you lose with "rock 1"? And the aggravation with loaner cars and arguing with the manager and service dept.... If you're going to spend that kind of money, find a decent 90's Chevy (gas or diesel), and rebuild the motor and transmission. I wouldn't take a new Chevy if you gave it to me for free. Just my opinion.

Luckily a Sheriff drove up behind us and towed us off the bridge and I called a tow truck To take us home. This was the third time the new truck failed. I had a 96 with the 6.5 diesel. Best looking piece of sh#t I ever owned. Short version is it needed an injection pump under warranty. Chevrolet didn't want to. After multiple dealers and false accusations it cost me enough to buy it again in cash. And it was gone. Ford 7.3s replaced my diesel requirements, and I won't buy a new truck ever unless I become a millionaire. I have a 2013 Chevy (5.3 gas) over 200k, like you, only 1 set of pads on the front, even then only because a front bearing gave up at 150k. My version is I like Chevrolet for comfort on the road. Chevrolet warranties aren't worth the paper they put it on. If you get a good one and don't need warranty service you're good. If you need warranty service you a screwed duck. They will lie to your face and won't care. I've spent my money based on that. GM will never see me looking at new anything because of their dirty warranty deals. Best of luck with the new one. I really hope this one treats you well. As GM Tech I'm extremely disappointed with the 2020 Trucks. There is a reason I own a 2007 Classic.
Also gonna add don't think it's just Chev shittin the bed. So is Ford. Dodge has it's kinks but I haven't had enough in with problems to pick up what's going on.

Well it’s about time, Sir! Happy trails and many miles.... but I’d still lug around that extra battery for awhile.😁

YEp, fool me one ....... Service manager said they think the problem is licked on the 2020 now... I hope that means the 2021 are ok too...

I got rid of all my chevy's 15 years ago. The 3rd biggest pieces of trash I have ever owned. Only BMW and Mercedes were worse. My Lumina Z34 went through front brake pads every 2 months and chevy told me it was normal WTF??? Chevy told me the knocking from my Malibu and Lumina engines when I started the cars in the morning was normal UMMM OK but I should have known better because I use to work for GM and I know the trash they put out.

My 2001 Durmax dually had the bad bosch injectors and flooded the engine with diesel.... Dealer told me it was ok to drive after they changed the oil... Glad I had him write that on the ticket :) Chevy replaced the truck after they replaced the injectors and it had a knock....

I had the same experience in 2006. I had ENOUGH! Bought a f-350 diesal and I've been on the Ford wagon ever since. I will NEVER buy a Chevy AGAIN!! Three Ford's since and been happy with every one

We will see.... 1 bad one out of 17 is a record I can live with... I had the same exact problem with Ford back in the Eighties. Ford never stepped up and I have been buying a lot of Chevys ever since....

I had a '15 Chevy 1500 and a '16 GMC Denali that were great trucks. I almost bought a '20 GMC 2500 but in the end I found out a friend of mine was working temporally at a Ram dealership so I went with a 2500 Mega Cab instead because he hooked me up big time. Glad I did now, 4600 miles so far and no problems. Sorry to hear about your troubles, hopefully this one lasts for you.

Buying from a company that went bankrupt and was bailed out with your and my tax money!!! I had rather buy from a company that has been solvent and the leading truck manufacturer in the US for over 50 years!!!

This is why I'm scared of the new twin turbo and hybrid Toyota Tundra as a Toyota guy. It does not matter what car brand you own today. TODAY is the issue. All these damn cars are pushing too much eco crap and reducing quality and longevity.

I’ve had them all Dodge , Ford , Chevy , what I know is you can have a lemon in any of them , but I was most happy with a Dodge or Ford p/u ,but I would take the best deal with the options I want

I hope the new truck works out for you. I also hope that Rock 1 goes back to Chevrolet Engineering so the engineers get to tear it apart and see what ailed that beast! I’m sure you would hate to see Rock 1 get sold off the used vehicle lot to some unsuspecting customer…
