The movie wasn't designed to be a cinematic or financial success. It was designed to be a symbolic Masonic success. All the secret messages go right over the ordinary guy's head.
The movie is a like a visual Mozart masterpiece...but I'm the only Salieri in the audience who can see it.

That line is taken from some "stars behaving badly" audio when William Shatner was doing voicework for a videogame. I thought it was an coincidence at first, but there's also a scene where they're debating the pronunciation of the word, "sabotage" that was also from the Shatner audio.

What people overlook the most is the fact that Casanova Frankenstein was his own demise.
He created a machine that warped reality and allowed fantasy to become real.
Once the machine starts, the team becomes they always dreamed of being. Mr. Furious finally becomes what he always wanted to be. And that ultimately defeats Casanova Frankenstein.

This was a refreshing movie at the time. It dared to poke fun at the genre, and was ahead of its time. Witty and very well written and edited, the timing was impeccable. Actor selection was spot on, and it just was a good time for a while at the movies. It was a humorous good escape, that didn’t require a lot of buy in. Still one of my favorite movies, and the fact that it didn’t ‘do well’ and has a cult status makes it even more so. Cheers!!
P.S. Greatest cameo was Blue Raja’s mom played by none other than Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman!!

Something a lot of people sadly seems to forget... not just with super heroes.
It really sometimes feel like people forget that being just fun and silly can be very good. Not everything needs to be dark and serious all the time.
Not sure how this quote was but something like "trying to avoid and kind of childishness is the most childish thing, someone can do".

I'm SO glad they shouted out
Blade (1998) that film is severely underrated for the fact it did MOST of the heavy lifting for The Matrix. Mystery Men is also another gem that did something similar. I really feel like Guardians of the Galaxy took some ques from this film even Deadpool has some of the same DNA as Mystery Men.

I remember Mystery Men being in the theater for a whole two weeks, I caught the trailer in front of M.I.B. and Knowing it was based on the Flaming Carrot and the Mystery Men was excited to see it. *Long time Comic geek and comic historian. so I made sure that when it was released on video I got the movie and loved it. I think it was ahead of it's time and has the same flavor that Guardians of The Galaxy and Thor Ragnorok had, and this was almost twenty years before those Movies. I blame Universal for poor Marketing of the movie. It's a lot like how if Dredd had been marketed correctly it wouldn't have been a box office flop. Everything about the movie works, the cast is excellent. And it's very well written. It remains one of my favorite movies.

I love the Mystery men movie. I am still waiting on a sequel... eh Netfix.
Each season has a rotating cast as like in the comics the cast dies and are replaced by others whose powers are questionable; picking up where movie ends and introducing the Flaming carrot at that point.
