I'm not going to lie. I want to see a Captain N the game master reboot. Done with better story telling and narrative with characters more true to their video game counterparts.

same here i first saw this cartoon in 1990 i was 6 it was my first cartoon that i saw on nbc a firend in my neighborhood had the first season on vhs tapes i was 7 at the time too bad syfy didn't do gravedale high

I remember when MK 1st came out it was on the news for like a week because of how graphic it was... But at the same time NYPD Blue and Law n Order were the #1 shows @ that time and they were filled with harsh language and violence..... Go figure
There almost was a Double Dragon cartoon series that was meant to be part of the Super Mario Bros. Power Hour but it got scrapped. So, I doubt it would have been too violent.

I expected some fun trivia about Captain N, not this.
-Like how Kevin keen's zapper was reverse colored.
-Or that megaman was tinted green because when one of the designers played the game, his TV screen was tinted wrong.
-Or how the Bayou Billy episode has an uncompleted TV version, and a more complete home video version.
-Or how they drew game footage for Bayou Billy, because they couldn't get the license to show footage from it.
Heck when you were discussing the voice actors you left out the most important one, KEVIN KEEN'S VOICE ACTOR MATT HILL.
Today most know him for the voice of Ed from Ed Edd n Eddy.
And lastly,
How can you complain that characters who "never talked" in NES games had voices in the cartoons? It's NES, it was rare to hear sounds that resembled voices in the games. Not only that but 90% of playable game characters did not have dialogue.
How much research did the writer put into this episode?

I'm a big fan of Captain N, and honestly this video just makes the series look like one big commercial. Perhaps the use of Nintendo products can be seen as marketing, but how else are you going to make a show about a kid going into Nintendo games?
I think the best episode is episode 3 The Most Dangerous Game Master. Kevin has to confront an old bully from his past who is basically now in Video Land, Mike Vincent. One might think he would be better than Mike Vincent in VideoLand, but Kevin ends up losing in a race with him to beat CastleVania.
He ends up dangling out a window, where he pleads to Mike to help him, and Kevin reveals that him and Mike used to be really good friends before Mike became a bully. Kevin asks Mike if he would really let him fall, and the next scene shows Mike saved Kevin and brought him back to rescue his friends. The final scene Mike ends up saving Kevin from a laser blast, killing himself in the process. Mike then exclaims that there is hope for Kevin and the real Mike to become friends once again,, and not to worry because he was just an android.
This episode showed some good character from Kevin, not to mention a Kickin' Castlevania montage.
I loved this show and the Super Mario Bros Show! I think you gave more insight than this video did! You should make a video about it!

Nice costume! You know, if you think about it, Captain N did the whole Video Game crossover thing LONG before Super Smash Bros. or even Marvel Vs. Capcom!
The biggest thing this show got wrong was that they used the Link from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show's Zelda series, but didn't have him say "Excuuuuuuse me, Princess" even once.

I chose Simon as my favourite N Team member too, because he's ridiculous and just a klutz which is somehow entertaining for me.
As a child one thing that irked me was how detailed and fluid cartoon intro sequences were, compared to the actual animation. Smh I felt so deceived by those japanese, & korean studios.
With all the reboots nowadays I wouldn't mind seeing a reboot of this! Maybe with the characters being more like their game counterparts.
And since nintendo has more characters to use.
You completely ignore Saturday Supercade, a game-themed programming block from the early 80s. Captain N and SMB Super Show were far from the first.

The worst adaption was Megaman, follow closely by Alucard.
The best character was Mother Brain.
Yeah they turned Alucard into Corey Feldman, and Megaman into Mickey from Rocky
I rewatched quest for power episode and noticed something, it was the Ganon episode, I would comment on it but can't since it's disabled but I wonder if they were planning on replacing Motherbrain with Ganon as the villain and she would be the henchman cause of how the ending went but then the next episode it's motherbrain as the main villain.
It's hilarious now cause Ganon is the big bad.

Burger Time never had an animated series, and the closest we got was the Captain N characters in costumes.

My favorite crossover was with Legend of Zelda. A two part episode. Sadly it was the series finale. But it did connect the world's, and the villains were incredible to see in this series.

And the actor for Mother Brain was the same actor that played the plant in Little Shop of Horrors

you should do an episode about how the sci fi channel paved the way for japanimation (anime) to become mainstream in the US.
I swear they hinted at hints and tips for beating hard parts of the games warp zones and hidden objects and such. I loved this show as a kid.
I remember watching the show and not wanting to miss it every Saturday morning because this was the first cartoon that really showcase popular Nintendo characters / heroes.... I actually still like this show I found the DVD box at a little over 10 years ago on eBay for about 40 bucks but now I think it's even higher than that now.
Some of the final episodes in season three didnt even have fully colored backgrounds.. some scenes only have ink drawings lol

I'm 34, i was just old enough to catch it around the end, it would come on real early in the morning, some time after Video Power (look into it, heck i use it's logo for my avatar). Simon is the worst of the characters.
Nice video! As a fan of Captain N, I had no idea about the Buddy Boy stuff. That's very interesting! However, you left out a couple of details...
Alessandro Juliani (the voice of Pit/Kid Icarus) did the English dub voice of L, in Death Note! Also, Ian James Corlett (the voice of Dr. Wily) was the first voice of Goku, in the Funimation dub of Dragon Ball Z.
Thank you for remembering Kid Video. It was a weird show, but sad that it only was so short.
I recognize Garry Chalk doing the voice of Donkey Kong in Captain N.
Ironically he went on to play Optimus Primal in MainFrame Animation's 1996 Beast Wars.
Ian James Corlett, and Venus Terzo, both worked with Garry on Beast Wars.

My take on it all is that i want a Captain N game now with as big a world as Zelda BOTW but in N's world, but instead of dungeons he visits all these games from the show but in the their video game form from today.
Even as a kid I knew Megaman looked weird, but I still loved this show, if only for the awesome 8-bit sound effects, and the childhood dream that I TOO, might be sucked into videogame land ^_^
For some reason I always thought that Princess Lana was based off Tiffany Amber Theissen(Kelly Kapowski), but I don't know which series came out first.

I LOVED this show as a kid, watched it every morning on NBC -- even played Bayou Billy because of the show...which was unfortunate.
Upon rewatch, I can't bring myself to hate it, it's like a Drawn Together version of Nintendo characters, and it was a blast for the time, you just had to be there.

When I bought _Captain N: The Game Master_ on DVD (and by extension, its 3rd season on _Super Mario World),_ I recognized Lana as Venus Terzo who I know more as *girl-type Ranma Saotome* So when I listen to one character, I cannot unhear the other

Wow, this one was a blast from my past. I like movies/shows that reference video games. Captain N and Wreck it Ralph.
I watched every single one of these video-game cartoons quite religiously, when I was a lad.
I had noted the major differences from their in-game counterparts (including Samus's questionable absence)...
But honestly, I was just glad to see my favorite sprites animated on the telly.
I had more fun watching her explain the show than I did watching the show when it 1st aired, but I did tune in at the time and even followed the comic book mentioned for a while
So... it's the Nintendo Cinematic Universe? Yeah, something like that could never catch on...

I don't think they'll ever be labeled to do a adaptation of the Metroid franchise without Samus Aran ever again.
This show was my favorite. Not mentioned was that this show along with other NES t.v. shows were only on air long enough to help build the hype for the SNES system. Simon was used for Castlevania because it was already working on the trilogy and Double Dragon was just putting out their second game. Samus probably wasnt well known as a female because lets remember there wasnt any online source to help spread the word. I never owned a Metroid game and I had many video games at the time and you only found out she was female if you beat the game! I dont think it was until the 90s that i learned Samus was female. Which i remember thinking that was cool. But it just took a long time for word to get around then.

i have : master system collection, playstation 1, playstation 2, psp, ,xbox 360, snes and nintendo 64.
Also, I think DIC did the animation to another classic video game translated to Television In the form of Double Dragon. I freaking love this cartoon! It was way more involved than the standard side-scrolling button-mashing video game! Plus the Double Dragon Brothers has killer Superhero inspired costumes and cool looking vehicles! The Double Dragon Cartoon Series was the right amount of dumb to fun!

One of the episodes featured Simon going into a world where a group of robbers are stopped by a ninja. I'm guessing that was supposed to be the Ninja Gaiden world?

I’ve been a huge Megaman fan since the Original 6 fantastic Megaman games on the 8-bit Nintendo console. The one thing that really bothered me was how they portrayed Megaman on Captain N. His voice, look, and personality sucked and was nothing how I imagined Megaman would be in a cartoon series. I feel the same way about Simon and Belmont and Alucard. But I guess this was the early days of translating video game characters to another media. Overall I still enjoyed Captain N The Game Master. This was a fun retrospective on an old cartoon show that I’m sure a ton of us watched when we were children. As always I look forward to seeing the next one! Cheers!
The Orginal concept was about a paperboy delivering newspapers when one day his route went into the world of Nintendo where the Denizens ended up getting hooked on the news of our world

might not have been about a video game
but it was a bunch of kids being "sucked into" the game world and having to find their way out.
so it was kind of the same concept, except it wasn't a commercial for the products, given that d&d products is mostly just the rulebooks
d&d players also buy dice and miniatures, but those were mostly manufactured by third parties.
