I'm not going to lie. I want to see a Captain N the game master reboot. Done with better story telling and narrative with characters more true to their video game counterparts.
same here i first saw this cartoon in 1990 i was 6 it was my first cartoon that i saw on nbc a firend in my neighborhood had the first season on vhs tapes i was 7 at the time too bad syfy didn't do gravedale high

There almost was a Double Dragon cartoon series that was meant to be part of the Super Mario Bros. Power Hour but it got scrapped. So, I doubt it would have been too violent.
The biggest thing this show got wrong was that they used the Link from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show's Zelda series, but didn't have him say "Excuuuuuuse me, Princess" even once.
Nice costume! You know, if you think about it, Captain N did the whole Video Game crossover thing LONG before Super Smash Bros. or even Marvel Vs. Capcom!
As a child one thing that irked me was how detailed and fluid cartoon intro sequences were, compared to the actual animation. Smh I felt so deceived by those japanese, & korean studios.
I have to say ..I was sucked into wanting more Nintendo games that was on the show ..Also it did made being a Kid gamer much more awesome ..Great Video
I rewatched quest for power episode and noticed something, it was the Ganon episode, I would comment on it but can't since it's disabled but I wonder if they were planning on replacing Motherbrain with Ganon as the villain and she would be the henchman cause of how the ending went but then the next episode it's motherbrain as the main villain. It's hilarious now cause Ganon is the big bad.
"Everything you didn't know"? More like "Everything we want to talk about if you're new to this show". I expected some fun trivia about Captain N, not this. -Like how Kevin keen's zapper was reverse colored. -Or that megaman was tinted green because when one of the designers played the game, his TV screen was tinted wrong. -Or how the Bayou Billy episode has an uncompleted TV version, and a more complete home video version. -Or how they drew game footage for Bayou Billy, because they couldn't get the license to show footage from it. Heck when you were discussing the voice actors you left out the most important one, KEVIN KEEN'S VOICE ACTOR MATT HILL. Today most know him for the voice of Ed from Ed Edd n Eddy. And lastly, How can you complain that characters who "never talked" in NES games had voices in the cartoons? It's NES, it was rare to hear sounds that resembled voices in the games. Not only that but 90% of playable game characters did not have dialogue. How much research did the writer put into this episode? -------------- I'm a big fan of Captain N, and honestly this video just makes the series look like one big commercial. Perhaps the use of Nintendo products can be seen as marketing, but how else are you going to make a show about a kid going into Nintendo games? I think the best episode is episode 3 The Most Dangerous Game Master. Kevin has to confront an old bully from his past who is basically now in Video Land, Mike Vincent. One might think he would be better than Mike Vincent in VideoLand, but Kevin ends up losing in a race with him to beat CastleVania. He ends up dangling out a window, where he pleads to Mike to help him, and Kevin reveals that him and Mike used to be really good friends before Mike became a bully. Kevin asks Mike if he would really let him fall, and the next scene shows Mike saved Kevin and brought him back to rescue his friends. The final scene Mike ends up saving Kevin from a laser blast, killing himself in the process. Mike then exclaims that there is hope for Kevin and the real Mike to become friends once again,, and not to worry because he was just an android. This episode showed some good character from Kevin, not to mention a Kickin' Castlevania montage.
For some reason I always thought that Princess Lana was based off Tiffany Amber Theissen(Kelly Kapowski), but I don't know which series came out first.
I remember watching the show and not wanting to miss it every Saturday morning because this was the first cartoon that really showcase popular Nintendo characters / heroes.... I actually still like this show I found the DVD box at a little over 10 years ago on eBay for about 40 bucks but now I think it's even higher than that now.
Nice video! As a fan of Captain N, I had no idea about the Buddy Boy stuff. That's very interesting! However, you left out a couple of details... Alessandro Juliani (the voice of Pit/Kid Icarus) did the English dub voice of L, in Death Note! Also, Ian James Corlett (the voice of Dr. Wily) was the first voice of Goku, in the Funimation dub of Dragon Ball Z.
I recognize Garry Chalk doing the voice of Donkey Kong in Captain N. Ironically he went on to play Optimus Primal in MainFrame Animation's 1996 Beast Wars. Ian James Corlett, and Venus Terzo, both worked with Garry on Beast Wars.
A classic & wild series. So awesome various talents were a part of this My favorite crossover was with Legend of Zelda. A two part episode. Sadly it was the series finale. But it did connect the world's, and the villains were incredible to see in this series.
My take on it all is that i want a Captain N game now with as big a world as Zelda BOTW but in N's world, but instead of dungeons he visits all these games from the show but in the their video game form from today.
This video explains why cartoons are so different nowadays: By law video game companies are forbidden to use cartoons to get in your head to sell toys. I miss the 90's!
It’s too bad that Warner Bros. can create a live action movie for Captain N and Freakazoid dexter Douglas, but instead we got ready player one which doesn’t stick with the source material !
If you want to see more of the live action actor who played Kevin he is also in The New Lassie (Season 2 Eps.11) you can watch it on youtube he plays Jamie Hoff.
What's sad is there is no mention of the Captain N: Game Master comic book that was published in 1991 and only ran 5 issues. That was something about Captain N they didn't even know about...
I'm 34, i was just old enough to catch it around the end, it would come on real early in the morning, some time after Video Power (look into it, heck i use it's logo for my avatar). Simon is the worst of the characters.
I had more fun watching her explain the show than I did watching the show when it 1st aired, but I did tune in at the time and even followed the comic book mentioned for a while
I watched every single one of these video-game cartoons quite religiously, when I was a lad. I had noted the major differences from their in-game counterparts (including Samus's questionable absence)... But honestly, I was just glad to see my favorite sprites animated on the telly.
I LOVED this show as a kid, watched it every morning on NBC -- even played Bayou Billy because of the show...which was unfortunate. Upon rewatch, I can't bring myself to hate it, it's like a Drawn Together version of Nintendo characters, and it was a blast for the time, you just had to be there.
Even as a kid I knew Megaman looked weird, but I still loved this show, if only for the awesome 8-bit sound effects, and the childhood dream that I TOO, might be sucked into videogame land ^_^
One of the episodes featured Simon going into a world where a group of robbers are stopped by a ninja. I'm guessing that was supposed to be the Ninja Gaiden world?
This show had a great premise, but they poorly executed it. This idea does deserve a reboot. Combine this with Super Smash Bros. and you've got a winner.
I was obsessed with Captain N and my NES as a little boy. Finding a smart and funny girl talking about that makes my soul and inner child smile. I gonna check this channel, maybe its always this good...
When I bought _Captain N: The Game Master_ on DVD (and by extension, its 3rd season on _Super Mario World),_ I recognized Lana as Venus Terzo who I know more as *girl-type Ranma Saotome* So when I listen to one character, I cannot unhear the other
Oh wow you forgot that in one of the tv show it talks about a tips into the game itself. like Zelda II The Adventure of Link. Horsehead that you need to attack the head...and lets not forget in the same show talking about a path in the Graveyard to get somewhere quick.
Wow did you guys really cut the cord off of a zapper for this? You know you can just use a Phillips screwdriver and easily and TEMPORARILY remove the internals, right?

I'm not going to lie. I want to see a Captain N the game master reboot. Done with better story telling and narrative with characters more true to their video game counterparts.
I'm shocked Netflix didn't think of this.
Word!
This needs to be done
You're getting Captain Laserhawk. It's inspired by this. And it's coming to Netflix.
Syfy should do best 80s cartoon series jem and the holograms 😊
Simon's head always reminded me of Egon from the Ghostbusters Cartoon!!
I was a huge Nintendo fan growing up and I loved this show. Thank you sci-fi for doing a video on this show!
same here i first saw this cartoon in 1990 i was 6 it was my first cartoon that i saw on nbc a firend in my neighborhood had the first season on vhs tapes i was 7 at the time too bad syfy didn't do gravedale high
I used to love this show back in the day
Same❤
Before Wreck-It Ralph
before smash ultimate
Captain N did video game crossovers
At least Link wasn't constantly saying, "well excuuuuuuuuse me princess!"
Hey at least the Zelda cartoon wasn't all yOu CaN mAkE mE dO tHe DuCk WaLk! COOL, huh?? Oh boy! Golly! HOW ABOUT A KISS???
Actually... They had a crossover episode with the zelda cartoon. So yes, link WAS saying that.
@@329link yep 🤣🤣
He matured since then thank Nayru for that!
@@329link 😯
Only mentioned Link as a cameo for the Captain N show, but there was a Legend of Zelda show as well with more of that character and his Catchphrase "excu~se me princess"
Link and Zelda appeared in four episodes in the second season with one being just a minor role, but he was much more tolerable here,
I'm kinda surprised Captain N isn't in Smash beyond Duck Hunt's moveset (yes he's the shooter)
Is he?
Captain N for Super Smash Bros
whenever they do a poll for new characters for SSB, I always write in Captain N. XD
@@sirdaveysockrocker me too
Or just a mii costume would be cool.
yeah put me in there.
legit the ONLY non video game character who belongs in Smash....well him and Nester....
This could be done, especially since Smash Bros. is big too. I saw a video someone made of this idea too.
"Captain N: Their World's Champion"
WE need a new version of this
>didn't know who Samus was
>includes the final boss from the same game in the show
????
"I thought his name was Metroid."
samus being a female was a major twist back then. you had to beat the game in under and hour and a half to find out
Mother brain was final boss.samus is a bounty hunter
He was probably told to use the character and had no clue what Mother brain was from.
@@godmagnus lmao!
Captain N a better isekai then Sword Art Online
Ligtning Dog hahahahahahahhaha
Imagine if Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad made a cross over with Captain N: that would have been awesome.
Would be more awesome if Samus made an appearance as Mother Brain is the main antogonist
@@sinfulkivisian20 I also agree. I guess the creators just didn't know about Samus.
@Ronald Nygma did not know they had a comic series. Interesting🤔🤔👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
@Ronald Nygma Who, Samus? I know she did. And Lana was CRAZY jealous about it.
I'm pretty sure that at one point Princess Lana was supposed to be Palutena.
That would explain why kid icarus was with them all the tims
Instead of Simon Belmont.. They should have added Jimmy and Billy Lee from Double Dragon...
Or the brothers from River City Ransom or Bad Dudes
@arbereshe perhaps.... But also back in the 80's and 90's most things were pretty sheltered...

god Bless the Four Tops lead Singer Levi Stubbs as the voice of Mother Brain.

As a child one thing that irked me was how detailed and fluid cartoon intro sequences were, compared to the actual animation. Smh I felt so deceived by those japanese, & korean studios.
I may be too young to have seen Captain N because I didn't know what a cartoon was until 1995 but Jackie Jennings is beautiful.
She fine AF.....so beautiful
With all the reboots nowadays I wouldn't mind seeing a reboot of this! Maybe with the characters being more like their game counterparts.
And since nintendo has more characters to use.
You completely ignore Saturday Supercade, a game-themed programming block from the early 80s. Captain N and SMB Super Show were far from the first.
I came here to say this. SUPERCADE!!
I chose Simon as my favourite N Team member too, because he's ridiculous and just a klutz which is somehow entertaining for me.
Burger Time never had an animated series, and the closest we got was the Captain N characters in costumes.
I kind of wish she would've worn the Princess Lana costume instead
Just let it awaken something in you.
Some of the final episodes in season three didnt even have fully colored backgrounds.. some scenes only have ink drawings lol
Kristopher Hebert maybe it’s the GameBoy world LOL.
I have to say ..I was sucked into wanting more Nintendo games that was on the show ..Also it did made being a Kid gamer much more awesome ..Great Video
you should do an episode about how the sci fi channel paved the way for japanimation (anime) to become mainstream in the US.
your not even gonna bring up the fact Frank Welker did the voice for game boy...lame
Or that the one with Link was a crossover with the Legend of Zelda-cartoon. Same voice actors, but different designs.
And the actor for Mother Brain was the same actor that played the plant in Little Shop of Horrors
Oh I guess they said that
The worst adaption was Megaman, follow closely by Alucard.
The best character was Mother Brain.
Yeah they turned Alucard into Corey Feldman, and Megaman into Mickey from Rocky
I rewatched quest for power episode and noticed something, it was the Ganon episode, I would comment on it but can't since it's disabled but I wonder if they were planning on replacing Motherbrain with Ganon as the villain and she would be the henchman cause of how the ending went but then the next episode it's motherbrain as the main villain.

That's because it's the Link from the Legend of Zelda cartoon.
It was suppose to be a crossover between the two shows
I'm so glad she mentioned the Motown legend Levi Stubbs
I swear they hinted at hints and tips for beating hard parts of the games warp zones and hidden objects and such. I loved this show as a kid.

Worst job adapting...Simon.
Best job, I liked Link, actually. He had personality.
Mysticgamer Don’t forget ignoring Samus, since they apparently forgot her for the female lead 👎👎 But somehow decides on Mother Brain instead
Actually the idea of being portal to the video game world and being trapped came from the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon.
The D&D cartoon wasn't a in a video game world.
I LOVE Captain N. As you can see. They need to make a Captain N the Game Master VIDEO GAME.
Sadly, they *stripped all the Songs* from some of the episodes... 😢
Oh wow you forgot that in one of the tv show it talks about a tips into the game itself. like Zelda II The Adventure of Link. Horsehead that you need to attack the head...and lets not forget in the same show talking about a path in the Graveyard to get somewhere quick.

Interestingly I remember that in Mexico it was called Captain Nintendo, not Captain N. Maybe my child's memory is playing a trick on me.
They need to remake this series or at least a movie
