    What can be used to clean the floor? Will chemicals damage the coating? I’m thinking of putting this in a barn office with heavy horse manure flow so I’d have to clean often.

    Tolle Beschreibung, Danke.

    Nice video....is this resin brittle..reason I ask is I was thinking this may be able to be cast in tubes then used for pen turning blanks after adding some colour...what’s your thoughts...thanks

      Thank you for your feedback!
      Epoxy Resin when applied as a coating onto existing surfaces, such as concrete, screeds etc, becomes very strong and hard-wearing, perfect for a variety of flooring applications; but Epoxy Resin in thin sections on its own can be fairly brittle and easy to break; because of this potential brittleness, it wouldn't be advisable to use Epoxy Resin for making anything that is quite thin, such as a pen.
      Our Epoxy Resin is used primarily on flooring applications and isn't designed to be used in any form of casting, thin or thick section.
      Kind regards,

    Really well explained thanks. One question though, are these floors slippery ?

    • @FutureFloorsAndDesign
      @FutureFloorsAndDesign  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello,
      Thank you for the feedback!
      Epoxy floors are no more slippery than other smooth surfaces that you'd find inside your home, such as porcelain tiles for example; the only time you'll find a smooth Epoxy surface particularly slippery is if it became wet, although this would also make most other surfaces slippery also.
      Hope this helps!

    Great video!! Question: can I lay the pennies on bathroom floor tiles? And after people walking on the floor over and over does the resin scratch or dent in anyway? Basically I’m asking does it age well over time? Thanks

    • @FutureFloorsAndDesign
      @FutureFloorsAndDesign  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, we're glad you liked it! Ideally, you'd want to begin laying a penny floor on a level, flat surface, such as screed, wood etc. as this will provide the best possible surface to bond onto. If your tiles are quite profiled (riven tiles), you can prime the tiles with a thick coat of Epoxy Resin (scratch/scrape coat) to help level the tiles before applying the pennies; on our supplied datasheet for our Epoxy Resin it states what an Epoxy Scrape Coat is comprised of. Over time, as with any gloss finish that has traffic, it will begin to go more of a matt/silk finish; however, a very useful quality of Epoxy Resin is that after a little bit of prep, it can be sealed again to restore it back to its original look. To do this, all you need to do is lightly sand the Epoxy to create a mechanical key, followed by a vacuum to remove the dust from sanding, then you simply seal the surface again with a fresh coat of Epoxy Resin to make it as good as new. With foot-traffic, you'll only get to a certain level of matt/silk finish on the Epoxy, then it won't go any further than that, so it's unlikely that you'll want to seal it again. Kind regards,

    I have seen a few videos where people are sticking the coins onto some plastic and making tiles then laying them down, what kind of plastic would you use? Thank you great video!

    • @FutureFloorsAndDesign
      @FutureFloorsAndDesign  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Adam, unless the penny application is for a vertical surface, sticking the pennies onto plastic, tile mesh etc to create placable tiles doesn't really have any significant benefit compared to sticking the pennies directly onto the floor freehand. The main reason you'd do this is to create a specific pattern using a template, but most penny designs are fairly simple to create, even if they look complex when the floor is complete, so this shouldn't be necessary. As we don't use this particular method, we can't recommend any products to help unfortunately, however we're pretty sure you will be able to achieve a nice penny floor design freehand 👍 Hope this helps!

    If you notice bubbles before the epoxy dries can you spray it with alcohol

    • @FutureFloorsAndDesign
      @FutureFloorsAndDesign  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello,We wouldn't recommend spraying anything into the surface of the resin, as doing this can easily effect the overall appearance of the resin, as well as possibly weakening the epoxy on the surface and effecting the curing time.Kind regards,

    Is this the same if doing a counter top,or table.Can you use beer bottle tops.Thanks

    • @FutureFloorsAndDesign
      @FutureFloorsAndDesign  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello David, yes you can indeed use this application on a countertop, bar top, table etc. You can also use bottle caps instead of pennies, however as bottle caps are lightweight, you will need to make sure that the bottle caps are well stuck, with the underside of the caps filled up as much as possible to remove any trapped air before sealing them with epoxy. This will prevent your bottle caps from lifting up and will also prevent trapped air from under the bottle caps coming out as bubbles in your sealer. It might be worth trying to fill up the underside of the bottle caps prior to sticking them to your surface; this should give them some weight and will help remove the void before your start. The epoxy sealer will likely require more than 3 sealer coats to cover the bottle caps as they are taller than pennies, but the process for sealing will be the same as in this video. The best thing we can advise you to do is to attempt a small test patch first to see if you can achieve your desired finish.Hope this helps, and good luck with your project!

    I want to do a penny floor in my kitchen too. Only problem is, laws where I live require floors to be built at a tiny angle. Meaning that a certain very mild tilt exists, though barely even noticable to the eye. Could this be a problem, would it cause the epoxy to "flow" before setting? Thanks.

    Is the Epoxy slippery on a floor - especially if used in a kitchen or bathroom?

    • @FutureFloorsAndDesign
      @FutureFloorsAndDesign  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello,
      Epoxy floors are no more slippery than porcelain tiles that are also used in areas such as kitchens and bathrooms; similarly to those tiles, you'll only really find Epoxy floors particularly slippery if they are wet, which would make most other surfaces slippery also.
      Hope this answers your question!

    How many litres is a 5kg pack and whats the working time at room temp?

    • @FutureFloorsAndDesign
      @FutureFloorsAndDesign  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our FFD Epoxy Resin DPM units are weighed in kg's rather than litres; coverage is 1.1Kg's per square meter per millimetre (depending on porosity). At room temperature you would expect the pot life to be around 30 minutes (this is if you leave it in the pot once mixed), however if the resin is poured out over your surface immediately after mixing, you will have more working time with the material. Hope this helps!

    Don't you need to sand between the coats of epoxy?

    • @FutureFloorsAndDesign
      @FutureFloorsAndDesign  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Lori,
      If the Epoxy surface you would like to coat is less than 48 hours old, a new coat of Epoxy Resin will chemically bond onto the previous one and will not require a mechanical key; if the Epoxy surface is more than 48 hours old, it is recommended that it is lightly sanded to create a mechanical key for the next coat to bond onto, followed by a thorough vacuum to remove any dust.
      A new coat of Epoxy Resin will hide any scratches caused by the light sanding, providing that the scratches are clean, not too deep and haven't penetrated through the coating into the background.
      The inter-coat adhesion between the coats is strongest when the material is between 24-48 hours old, which is why you can coat directly onto the surface if it is within this time-period.
      Kind regards,

    Step 1. Make sure that the coins you decide to use, are NOT CURRENT coins that are STILL in circulation. Otherwise, you could be up on a charge of: Defacing current coin of the realm! That carries a big fine and sometimes also a long prison sentence! But using coins that are NOT legal tender any more, and OUT of circulation... that's fine. I just thought I'd mention it, to save anyone getting into any trouble, 'cos it's illegal! ; > )

    • @FutureFloorsAndDesign
      @FutureFloorsAndDesign  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A simple search on the internet will quickly debunk this myth; it’s only illegal to melt down or destroy coins in the UK, making a floor using them is perfectly legal as they aren’t being destroyed in any way. Even in the unlikely event that penny floors were to become illegal, the police tend to be more preoccupied with serious criminals instead of searching people’s homes for penny floors.

      While giving lessons, YOU can start with typing lessons as well as spelling practice. Start with learning the correct spacing when typing. Then, practice spelling "miss spelling" correctly. (It's misspelling, one word, one less "s").
