    This week we installed a vinyl chip epoxy and polyaspartic coating in an office building.
    The first thing we had to do was to install the epoxy cove base. We mixed up epoxy resin with sand to create an epoxy mortar and then we applied it to the wall using a cove trowel. Once the cove base set up, we proceeded with our standard vinyl chip epoxy garage floor system.
    This customer wanted a floor that would match the color of their logo, so we used one our of standard paint chip colors, but we added red to it.
    After we completed phase one of the project, we decided we wanted to try using a pre-cast cove base. So we ordered the cove base and applied the vinyl chip epoxy system to it in our shop. Then we took the cove base and installed it on the walls in the office building. Once all of the base was glued to the walls, we moved forward with our polyaspartic and epoxy paint chip coating.

    Awesome video Tim. I love that you showed both methodologies. I’m doing my first project with an integral baseboard next week and we’ve been debating the merits of both, plus whether to preflake the easycove. This was really helpful to see everything play out. Thanks for all you do.

    Hey didn’t know you could apply epoxy flake over plywood. Interesting. I look forward to seeing the video where you talk about prepping epoxy flake for wood substrates 👌🏼

    • @TimDCVA
      @TimDCVA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cool. We’ve only done that a handful of times. It’s pretty expensive because you usually have to add a layer of plywood and then flood the floor with flexible epoxy.

    • @TimDCVA
      @TimDCVA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No they don’t. There isn’t much movement at the seams because the plywood has been doubled and the seams have been overlapped.

    You feel the prefab cove base is worth the extra expense? It's pretty expensive but does make it easier

    • @TimDCVA
      @TimDCVA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Prefab has its place. It is expensive, but you just have to weigh that against time savings.
      Prefab saves you a trip to the job site because you can install the cove and coat the floor in the same day.
      If you have multiple projects near each other then it makes sense to install cove mortar instead of prefab....because you can just go work on the other job when you are done.
      But if you are driving 1-2 hours each way to a job, then prefab is worth every penny because of all of the time/labor savings.

  • @NicSteinhaus
    @NicSteinhaus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am putting this same type floor down in our office next week but had a question about the polyaspartic top coat. Can the clear top coat be regular rust-oleum epoxy from Home Depot or does it need to be polyaspartic? This will be a very high traffic area. I have not found a local place to buy polyaspartic.
    So if it needs to be polyaspartic, where would you recommend I get it from?
    Thanks a million for the super helpful video.

    • @TimDCVA
      @TimDCVA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't use the epoxy from HD or Lowes. Those products are water-based epoxy, and they just don't hold up as well (or look as good) as a high solids epoxy or polyaspartic.
      DM me on Instagram or Twitter (@TimDCVA) and I can try to help you find something you can use locally.
      Thanks for watching! Glad the video helped. 👍🏻

    Is it possible to use thermoplastic rubber wall cove base? It's much cheaper and comes in a 120ft roll. I believe it's rubber/vinyl. I'm just not sure if epoxy would bond to the material.

      I don’t think the brand matters as much as the service. You need to be able to get it repaired without shipping it.
      I have a lavina 21-x on our van for residential garages. It’s a 110v machine that’s great for prep. I think it’s one of the cheapest grinders that they make. It’s not heavy enough to remove coatings though.
