i live at the end of a road that handglides and paragliders take off and can see where they land from my back yard . i see you play as hard as you work.
That trick to force fluid into the trans is super badass! You always have the best tips and tricks. Plus the way you talk makes any job your doing seem so easy and calm!
I'm just sensitive to it cuz I am currently "reinventing myself" again. Cancer is leaving ME with "survivor's guilt" in the year of Covid. Your videos keep me grounded I guess. So Thanks. 👍
That manual trans calls for GL-4. The GL-5 shown in the video isn't so friendly to the synchros. I bought mine new in 03 and did the driver's side at 225K and the other side at 250K. I've been using Redline MT90 as it's GL-4 and the car shifts better with that than any other I've tried. I used Mobil 1 early on until I figured out that GL-5 isn't backward compatible with a MT that required GL4.
Previous models called for GL4 or Gl5, Toyota said 2009-2013 i believe just GL4 in the service manual after. GLF5-4 liquid actually out performs GL4 protecting the brass synchros. Mobil 1 75w90 Gl5 doesn’t even contain anything harmful for yellow metals apparently so you could have kept with that. Other Gl5s can be harmful.
@@michaelmaloney6112 A master Toyota tech disagrees in regards to GL5. My experience is that the MT90 shifts better. This tranny now has 257K miles on it with no loss in performance.
MT90 is too thick for these transmissions. don't shift too quick or the combo of rev hang and quick shifting will wear the syncros. the proper Redline fluid would be MT-LV or D6 ATF both of which match the factory fluid specs more closely. These transmissions are designed for low viscosity fluid.
@@liveoak7838 Ok, if Toyota felt that ATF was the best fluid for these manuals then why did they fill them with and call for GL4 75W-90? Are there no engineers at Toyota who know the proper spec for these transmissions?
@@randyduncan795 Toyota LV is straight 75W, not 75-90. Redline MT-LV is designed to be used in this C59 transmission. It is GL4 rated. Before Redline came out with MT-LV, Redline D6 ATF was the closest formulation they had to Toyota LV. It is also GL4 compliant and approved to be used in a manual. MT-90 is best suited for Toyota trucks. The C59 needs a thinner fluid for its syncromesh actuation. Toyota engineers recommend factory fluid only.
Putting grease on the transmission end of the CV axle doesn't risk contaminating transmission? That grease will never be found mixed in with the transmission fluid? Is this obvious knowledge to mechanics?
If you don't have a big socket, you can use the old seal on top of the new one to tap in. I messed this job up, by driving the new seal in a little too far. When I started to pull out of garage all the tranny fluid was on the floor. Redo was much quicker.
You prolly dont care but if you are bored like me atm you can watch pretty much all the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Have been streaming with my gf for the last couple of months xD
Hay i need some help i have a 2001 zx2 ford escort cv was bad in the passenger side so we changed that .. Not easy but not hard. Now I need to check the transmission fluid but since its a 5 speed its weird. Can you maybe tell me where i can do this easiest oh ... N I am still experiencing some clanking and loosness still under the skirt so to speak. I'm sure ill need to driver side axle next ... Thanks for the smart shares its great
Great question David. I'm pushing an air nozzle into a hole in a handle of a 1gal gear oil jug that has a half inch hole center of the cap and a half inch tubing in the bottom of it running up through the cap. The top air in the jug pushes the gear oil level down and out through the tube into the transmission.

Spanky sounds horse. Hope it's not the Corona! Jeez. Anyway, love the tips. I have extra CV axles for all out vehicles on standby. So much easier with a lift as we age. Stay safe, both of you! Love the scotty grut on steriods, brian. LOL
Not knowing how to get an axle out... ; "I got the axle out, but the big round end with all that grease in it, is still stuck in the transmission..." Good thing you're replacing it.... Right?
“Committing to the whack” is a real thing. Great to see Spanky again. Thanks for sharing.

Hey it's Brian and Spanky, yay!
The commitment to the whack is real, and I appreciate it.
It sure is important to keep dedicated to the cause.

IT was cool seeing Spanky in another of your videos.
I thought it was going to be the 12pt 30mm socket required to take the axle but off. Thanks for sharing Brian and Spanky.
You seem like a happy happy camper now a days.. ur videos are great again bro..
AMAZING what avoiding toxic people can do right?

Did the driver side CV axle on first generation sienna with a piece of rebar from passenger side and a 4lb hammer. On the ground.
I just did this on the passenger side axle of my 2004 Carolla

You Gotta get a little crazy harsh with it yet still keep yer head and finesse ...pure talent like Scotty P baby ! Know what I'm sayin'!!??
That was a fantastic video and guess what I have stuck on my Corolla in the garage, right now!? LOL
I kept going after prying it away, but I need to go for the notch and HIT it with CONVICTION.
Just remember that if that snap ring is worn replace it, nothing sucks like having all gears be neutral..........
LOL!
Did that once.... Quick turn and suddenly no more GO.

Great tip John. I approve.
Great video...do you have a video on how to ...timing belt on a 2000 sienna and seal...thank you have a blessed day and be blessed
There are several on TH-cam. I watched one for a first generation sienna about 4 years ago.
These cv axles can be a super pain in the arse lol nice work @briansMobile1
Nice paraglider footage. We don't have views like that here in Delaware. Stay safe Brian
Both of you guys are awesome I love your videos .
Beautiful scenery on the bfate
Oh darn, I just missed this live. Catching up while @ work. Nice hair btw👌🏾✌🏾 HAPPY SUNDAY

99 Toyota rav4 front cv axle replacement no problema in my case..did take longer on driverside. Not oem vot from rockauto
Came here hoping to see passenger side on AWD matrix/vibe. Good tips!

Please stay safe from coronavirus. Brian and spanky, you to are awesome.
Everybody needs a bosum 4 a pillow... great vid man. Maybe you can help spanky on the bug😉🌄
What did he line up with to go back in
I've got my finger tips on 2 sides of the seal to make sure it's going in straight.
Wish I would’ve got a 77 Toyota GT liftback, or 78 Supra. Nice tee shirt BTW.
Thxs. How do you get into paragliding?
Overfilling a transmission to much can actually cause hard shifting but that little amount nothing at all @briansmobile1
What I did was tie an old seat belt to a sledge hammer, and the other end to the inner drive shaft. Then swing outwards
Thanks, this is so helpful!!
Tryin, pryin, flyin, Brian. No cryin.
How many miles on the Corolla?
Has the gasket maker caused any problem with the seal when it hardens and stiffens @briansmobile1
Where do the grippy gloves come from ?
Every time I see you flying that thing.... I gotta get one😃
SPANKY.........
what was that you put in the gear oil bottle to get the oil to go in the trans? How did you do that? lmk.
The feed tube is at the bottom of the bottle. Add compressed air to the top to push the fluid down so it goes through the tube.

It seems that they one have the own way in how to remove the axel.
holy acid reflux, batman!
awesome job.
As a young mechanic, I'd like to know. Does the job get easier if I make faces and grunt a lot?
No but swearing gets the job done!
Good stuff mainerd
Wow spanky in a video?!?!!!
No
Yup . Overdue. 😅
