So I actually bought those cheap mirrors, the bike didn't have any when I bought them and it was my first bike. For $35 I was able to see behind me and when I broke a set (dumped it at low speed twice) it was a very cheap fix again. I would have killed myself if I had the namebtend ones and I just destroyed a set because of learning. I might get the actual set now but I have no regrets with the mirrors at all, 8/10

    • @flip_moto
      @flip_moto 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

yeah exactly - being snobby about mirrors is totally douchey mindset. if you lane split, do track days, or beginner, mirrors are gonna get hit, dinged, stipped, broken, etc... who gives a flying fuuuuck what brand they are. Granted some bar set-ups + cheapos just don't work, but 80-90% of the time a $35 mirror is the best option.

Or how about those helmet lights? You can get the exact same ones in the video on Amazon for 30ish dollars, sometimes around 26. I've seen them on Ebay for 16 dollars and free shipping, where as the name brand ones are 180 dollars WITHOUT FREE SHIPPING.... Do the name brand ones have better fit and finish? Of course... But You can take those cheap ones, apply a thin layer of clear-coat over the whole helmet (masking off the wires and the section where they connect to the actual light up part) to keep them from breaking down due to dings and UV damage. that's like maybe an hour or two of your time to disassemble the helmet, run your wires, get everything cleaned and applied, then clear coating for what.. less than a TENTH of the price? Their not going to be as bright, but during night time you will see them just the same and they will last just as long, granted if you don't abuse the hell out of your helmet and the exposed wiring. Hell if you wanted to be super fancy you could even drill small holes in the back of the helmet to run the wires in where the Styrofoam is so it looks better..

When I was a newer rider, I had the cheapo mirrors in this video to replace the OEM bunny rabbit style. When I dropped the bike (more than once, sadly 😅), I never cried over damaging the mirrors. Eventually, I purchased slightly pricier mirrors (Fenrir) that look and fit much better but are still half the price of CRGs and won't cry if they get damaged. Honestly, I prefer their look to any other bar end mirror based on their geometry matching my Ducati's frame. Also, funny enough, I needed to use the insert set from the cheapos to make the nicer mirrors work for my handlebars. Just food for thought - sometimes really pricy mirrors don't make sense.

I did get one knock-off part from Amazon ever, it was a cheap clip-on windscreen extension. I got it because I wanted to see if one would work for me for what I wanted before committing $150+ on one from Puig or MRX (or whatever that German company is) and for as cheap as it is, it's actually held up so far for like two years.
One of the screws has some rust in the head, but the clamps are relatively solid. You won't notice unless you look for it, but it's a little crooked because the adjustment hardware is cheap and plastic and they didn't mirror the teeth so one side is always like half a tooth off from the other. But, it has been working. It doesn't rattle or vibrate and hasn't broken yet (I thought for sure that the first time I got on highway speeds, that the wind would just snap those plastic adjuster things, but it didn't).
Lots of reviews mentioned it broke easy and all this stuff, reviews were kind of mixed. It's a dice roll for sure when you buy knock-off parts and it's usually not worth it.

I would never knock someone for getting something at the price they can afford. Some people can only afford parts from Amazon at the time or ever. If they like it, they like it. Not everyone has TH-cam money or sponsor deals. Not a cool video.

Amazon does sell cheap versions of stuff. But they have good parts as well. I got my Freed Conn modular full-face helmet with 3 closeable air vents, the front one having a lil HEPA filter in it from them. With flip down sun shield and Bluetooth. And the padded sissy bar/luggage rack made from 1/8" & 5/16" plate steel. Got it bolted on my v Star 250 and it's rock solid! But the Dual Track Moto Horns I got from Moto Horns came with mounting bolt that was too short. So, I had to improvise to get them mounted on the front frame rail uprights in the stock location. So even good stuff can come with all-too-generic mounting parts.

I don't see the point in spending the money on namebrand parts for items that are primarily cosmetic, like mirrors. If you can see out of them, look good to you, and don't fall off the bike, then absolutely go for it.
Hell, I'm sure you can find some decent slip-ons too. I'd imagine you might want to repack them, but that's still a steal even after the cost of some fiberglass packing and pop rivets.
Now, I would not try things like a master cylinder, bearings, or other mechanically important parts. Levers kinda fall into that category, but they're a simple mechanism and you can do your own durability test off the bike if you want to play it safe. Even if you do some destructive testing, you can buy a few more sets before hitting the price point of namebrands.

  • @lucasszymanski114

Got a 38 dollar Chinese exhaust off amazon for my suzuki gladius. It is supposed to look like an akrapovic and even comes with an akrapovic sticker that you can put on the exhaust. Honestly doesn't sound half bad and happy with the purchase.

by the exhaust there was not really a problem the only problem was they both don't really know how to install it since you can remove the silver adaptor its for smaller pipes so it can fit these ataptors even comes with SC project pipes

On my cx500 build, there are things I won't buy again on the cheap, clutch handles and master cylinder. Such cheap aluminum, the bolts strip super easy when just attaching them to the handle bar. I modified my master cylinder and I fit some nuts and longer bolts through, but couldn't do that on the clutch handle, so I'll need a higher quality one. I'll probably try to restore the original master cylinder, since I still have it. But other things I have gotten have been fine, such as rubber parts, carb gaskets and such.

That muffler actually has great reviews. I bought 2 to replace some rusted scraped up factory units, for a beater 81 Honda Silverwing and the deep mellow tone sounds great. Shockingly great product for the money. Would I replace the sick units on my Ducati? Fuck no!!! Guys who put on their sv650 and a Harley were really happy too. Great especially for the money. Cast "crapalloy 2000" for the endcaps. Not plastic Spite... LOL Better buy a yaught next to test them there too, lol. As for that new control set, yes, not sure Id trust my life to that master cylinder. Actually put on an old 86 Yammie Seca 650 a few years back at twice the cost. Mediocre brakes factory. Stayed mediocre. Worked fine, and so an ok choice if youre on a tight budget, but not recommended.. FACT... Factory JDM parts don't look as cool. but are far superior. And if you pull your Brembo units off your Ducati to put on that unit, the motorcycle GODS WILL WANT TO PUNISH YOU!!! Expect a well deserved horrible death...... Make good choices, and stay alive Yam Fam!!! Hey also not discussed here, but there a great tire prices. Can be older stock. Check the DATE CODE on arrival. Reject if they're older, even tho they look "new". Rubber side down and stay safe out there everyone!!

Here’s devils advocate, those mirror bar ends, they don’t work for everyone, it’s just as Whitney said, ‘try before you buy’,
Why spent high dollars for quality mirrors IF those mirrors don’t work for you.
Many of those cheep parts are they types of things you buy just to see if they will suit you and how you ride.

Hello, y’all rock! So I bought my first sports (touring) bike in Dec. it is a 2009 ninja 650. I believe you called it the best mediocre bike. LOL. I have wanted a zx6r since I got into bikes. Guys I’m 44 and don’t know if I will have time to save up for and buy one. Would you literally make my dream come true? I’ve spent about 3K on my 650 and just not what I really wanted. Don’t get me wrong I’m very grateful that I have this bike, however ever time I watch any video or clip or any rider, I just desire the zx6r. So yeah I’d be forever grateful and uber content. Thank you for all you do . Hope by some chance you read this and decide to bless me.

Not sure why they hate on cheap mirrors so much plus Amazon has decent stuff as long as u don’t buy the first thing u see. they are a cheap alternative to the expensive option I doubt they are trying replace the og ones, if they function 65% as good at under half the price then that’s a win for all of us who don’t need top level mirrors, besides don’t most of us just shoulder check a lot of the times anyway??

Gonna be honest. Chinesium clutch levers are perfectly fine, cheap way to replace unadjustable factory shit. Brake levers? Don't touch that. Forget about it. 50/50 chance of it being drilled just bad enough to apply a little bit of braking pressure all the time and then locking up your brakes.
