I can vouch for the Scorpio alarm. Bought one in 2006, they don't seem to have changed much apart from the fob. It's an excellent system. I would recommend buying the appropriate plugs for your bike so the installation is plug and play, no cutting your harness.

Would love it if you could make a video on aftermarket headlight solutions. Like difference between HID, Halogen & Led bulbs. Headlight units like the daymaker etc Basically a video which covers motorcycle lighting.
Projector retrofit would be nice! I put LEDs in my bike, replacing the H7's, and the beam isn't where it should be. Also LEDs "got back!" (Sir Mixalot style) and as a result my dust boots had to be sacrificed. Help!

So what qualifies a rider? I myself go to work with my bike for 35km a day, 5 days a week with twice a month of riding with friends and co-workers (80-100km) and I do think it's unsafe to have that warmer on my throttle. Just my opinion.
I'm new to riding, and have been watching F9 for tips since getting M2 certified (Ontario). Every time I watch, I can't help but find myself thinking: Ryan should run adventure bike tours. Multi-day getaways to really get away from it all.

Truth be told that’s because Ari and Zack work for revzilla now. They’ve always done their videos in a similar way and they pre-date Ryan by a decade or more.The trio IMO would make the best presenting team there is. Just like Clarkson, Hammond and May.
*Brezhnev's* eyebrows, comrades. Here's a mod that'll save you money and make your EFI bike run on cheap pump swill, get better fuel economy, possibly perform better and definitely start easier. For all those new Harley fellas who have to pay a certified tech to try to remap your fuel injection or find a place just south of your swingarm to relocate your intake air temp sensor so your big, bad, loud pipes and cold air intake don't lean everything out so it runs like kaka- cut (yes, dammit! Cut the wire) coming from your air intake temperature sensor inside your bike's airbox or intake tract and install a 560 ohm 1/2 watt resistor (green, blue, brown) across the cut you just made. It doesn't care which way it goes. Now wire any kind of SPST (on/off) switch *across* that resistor. To your bike's EFI computer, high resistance at that sensor equals cold temps and wider injector pulse widths/richer mixture. Low resistance at the sensor equals hot temperatures/narrower injector pulses/leaner mixture. 560 ohms is a good starting point and the first resistor value I tried and stuck with in my '01 Kaw 1500 Vulcan. It made the EFI think it was 40 degrees colder out than it actually was. It enabled me to use 87 octane fuel (cheaper and more volatile than high octane, so it made starting easier.) The throttle responded crisper and my fuel economy improved. Octane measures gasoline's *resistance* to ignition (to cut down spark knock/detonation). That way the manufacturer can make your engine run as lean as possible to comply with EPA regs. The downside is you have to use high octane fuel to avoid knocking and overheating. This mod cures that by sliding your fuel map colder and richer. The switch across the resistor (that you can hide almost anywhere) just shorts it out so it's back to stock configuration again. You're welcome.
Gerhard Symons for me it was a helmet mounted Bluetooth and a usb socket on the bike for my phone charger. Gone is the fear of getting lost without any phone battery, plus music whilst I ride :)
bought the sena 30K because i thought i would need it 1 year ago.... listened 5 times to way too quiet and shitty audio quality music and thats it. never met anyone who had a comms system so i never used it for communicating... also i never tried the navigation feature because its annoying to me when in car. i have a phone mount for navigation. also i cant listen to music when going over 3000rpm because the sena constantly thinks im talking and talks back to me that something is not working. i recently found a use for the sena when i bought the audio back pack for my gopro... still sometimes there is no audio on the recorded footage when i am going over 3000rpm. also there are a lot of hard to fix problems on sena devices so dont ever buy sena!! buy cardo for example but heated grips are awsome
@@bikewolf7455 I can't speak to the Sena, but I'm pretty happy with my Cardo Packtalk. I always ride with earplugs (KTM 500EXC Supermoto) and I can hear it at pretty much all speeds/RPMs, though I do have it maxed out. I'd say helmet choice matters somewhat, because the speaker location in my Bell MX-9 is way better than in my Fox Racing V1. The mic only really pics up the bike at wide open throttle. Setting up a group can feel randomly hit or miss at times, but once linked, it works really well.
You can learn 99% of everything you’ll ever need to know ,should know, want to know ,don’t want to know or don’t need to know and so much more all by watching his videos one after another and they’re all extremely entertaining with a great flow.

A few additional tips about the Sawyer mini If I may. When using the Mini or any water filter for that matter, take special care to not let it freeze in cold temps as it will split the membrane inside sending it to paper weight status. I keep mine in an inside pocket next to my body. Also while it is one of my favorite pieces of gear for hiking, riding, or the apocalypse, beware that it only filters bacteria but not viruses. On the east side of the United States where I live viruses tend to not be an issue. Well, unless some a-hole with corona empties his bladder upstream as I'm filling mine. BONUS- It is designed to fit just about any screwcap bottle or bladder. (Minus Platypus's proprietary crap-I mean cap) And if you don't want to carry the bulky plunger to backflush it, the tip also fits perfectly in a flip top smartwater bottle cap. So keeping an extra cap tucked away is a really good idea for a few reasons. Happy Trails!
I used mine for filtering rain water in my cabin. I ended up buying a length of hose that I connected to the tap of a ten liter jug that I hang on a hook from the ceiling. Then I plug in the filter at the end and stick it into jugs for filtered water. I lived there using it regularly for two years. Sometimes when there was no rain for months I got water from random springs I passed. It made any water taste great.
Make sure you compare the weight of those dual-material sprockets before buying - Even though aluminum is lighter than steel, being a two-piece design means they need to use more material and I have heard some of them can actually be *heavier* than just a well-designed steel sprocket.
@@tacomas9602 I did 3,5k km with this sprocket, mainly off-road, with no issues, it still looks like new, deep notches clean themselves, which is invaluable in the mud. BTW, Moose is buying this from Polish producer, rebranding increasing cost by 110% ...goddamn capitalists ;)
@@adrianbroughton9752 This is true. For example, the stock steel sprocket of a 2004 Kawasaki ZX-10R is lighter than its SuperSprox equivalent (both 39 teeth). One drawback of the aluminum "core" sprockets with the steel teeth "ring" is the sprocket is light where it matters least and is heavy where it matters most, so a static weight savings of even as much as 1 pound doesn't really mean much if that savings is towards the center. You wont even notice any performance difference from just that. Supersprox for me is more for looks, not for performance.
I replaced the 50-tooth steel rear sprocket on my little Yamaha TW200 with a 40-tooth (probably should have only gone down to 42-43 toothed sprocket), in order to spread out the gears for street riding. Aluminum, drilled-out and titanium coated, made by Sprocket Specialists. The newer sprocket weighs virtually nothing in the hand. The older steel one was like a five-pound boat anchor. Before: Topped out at 65 MPH with lots of vibration. After: Tops out at 80 MPH, with NO vibration, along with an ungodly increase in fuel mileage. And still operates noticeably well in the lower gears.

When I was in Korea, every local who rode a scooter had those oven mittens for protectors. At first I thought them exotic, but I soon realized the genius ingenuity behind them. Wouldn’t mind a pair myself
FortNine - something I learned from the phone installation industry. When cutting your Tie-Wraps use the smooth flat end of the wire dykes down towards the lil lock and the curved end up toward the piece you are removing. Give a tug and cut. This will let the Tie go slightly back into the hole, and not leave a short jaggy piece popping up for you to cut your hands on.
For those looking at the heated seat @5:40 just be careful there is slip up and it's not a fuse box that that was shown, it's a 5-pin automotive relay. This being said I went and looked at the product online and the description said nothing about being fused. Everyone makes a mistake but just be sure you don't and install and inline fuse with it. Ride on brother
I had Shorai and it gave me a peace of mind during the winter when I left the bike sitting in the garage. It started without a problem after several months.

I have this electric scooter thing that's pretty much a two wheel golf kart (i.imgur.com/I8FE28t.jpg) I use for errands around town, I got it because it uses huge tires (18x9.50-8) and I have to traverse dirt roads often. I'd like to put a Honda GX160 on it when the hub motor claps out but i'm having trouble finding a spot for correct chain placement and not having suspension at all concerns me & my nuts a lil'.
I find under-the-bars mirrors (very short mount, near where your thumbs can reach) work surprisingly well on SM/dirt bikes, and are much less likely to get taken out. I'd think they'd work on most ADV too, but not on anything with clip-ons or a lot of bodywork in that area.
In the US you are required to have mirrors above the handle bars. And the law is the most common reason people have mirrors on dirt bikes in the first place.

Two budget alternative ideas: Ryde Angled Universal Motorcycle Mirrors are about £80 cheaper than doubletake . not as good at all, but they fold in quickly and with rubber washers solves any vibration problems and if somehow you do manage to break them its cheep as chips to get a new set. Heated seats can be made on a budget with a £15 reptile heat mat a switch and a bit of DIY electronic silks. Awesome video ! cant wait for the one on Lithium Power!
Because of this video I invested in some bar risers being 6’3 and it stand alone the best mod I’ve done to my bike, it helped with comfort,control,steering sensitivity and vibrations, and my riding position it’s changes everything I’m so happy with em
I used to use bar muffs back in the 90s, when I was dispatch riding, and they looked even more dorky than these here. It's amazing just how painful it can be when you fingers start to go numb and the vibrations kick in. I remember a 400 mile day where I had to travel to Manchester from Brum, in winter, and then back again thereafter along the same route, and I'd not got bar muffs, the pain was excruciating and I almost crashed due to lack of feeling in my hands. But crappy looking bar muffs for £40 saved my life thereafter

Rahbar Al Haq Well, each to their own... and your view is as valid as mine, but I’ve just put a digital dash on my Yamaha XT225, and its great to read speed and distance in MPH and miles rather than km. Many of the options on my unit have no relevance on the little XT, but i think its a great mod. Nice video too. Les in UK
analog speedos are easier to read, in all conditions. You are perfectly correct. And now for the science behind it: An analog tachometer has a specific position for speeds, an angle, that you get used to. You stop checking the number it points at and instead just check the angle it sits at and it's speed of movement, giving you a much quicker idea of how fast you're going and your delta V. The digital speedo requires you to interpret the number you're reading and it is next to impossible to judge the delta V by the change in numbers. Further worth mentioning: Sunlight and glare.
I did the Pivot Pegs on my DR-Z 400 and regret it. Hillclimbing? You're in the backseat and fighting to get your weight forward because your feet are rolled aft. Downhill is the same issue in reverse. The surface area to stand on is massive though and it's all day comfortable for riding the fire roads. Just wish I'd paid half as much for static pegs.
Good to see the Canadians doing so much on adventure bikes. My two brothers were born in Ontario, myself London, England and I spent eight years there as a child. We are all English now, though most Englanders guess incorrectly that I am an Aussie. Gonna get me some weight saving gear for my new KTM 350. Cheers old boy!

I tried that helmet mounted Bluetooth Comms system but I didn't have any one to talk to. Still nice to feel that you could if you found someone.

bought the sena 30K because i thought i would need it 1 year ago.... listened 5 times to way too quiet and shitty audio quality music and thats it. never met anyone who had a comms system so i never used it for communicating... also i never tried the navigation feature because its annoying to me when in car. i have a phone mount for navigation. also i cant listen to music when going over 3000rpm because the sena constantly thinks im talking and talks back to me that something is not working. i recently found a use for the sena when i bought the audio back pack for my gopro... still sometimes there is no audio on the recorded footage when i am going over 3000rpm. also there are a lot of hard to fix problems on sena devices so dont ever buy sena!! buy cardo for example

@@bikewolf7455 I can't speak to the Sena, but I'm pretty happy with my Cardo Packtalk. I always ride with earplugs (KTM 500EXC Supermoto) and I can hear it at pretty much all speeds/RPMs, though I do have it maxed out. I'd say helmet choice matters somewhat, because the speaker location in my Bell MX-9 is way better than in my Fox Racing V1. The mic only really pics up the bike at wide open throttle. Setting up a group can feel randomly hit or miss at times, but once linked, it works really well.

The Sawyer filters are the absolute tops in my book. Bought the $50 kit with the larger Zero Point One in it and been using it for years.

Supersprox have been making those sprockets for years, always put them on my bikes.
A few additional tips about the Sawyer mini If I may. When using the Mini or any water filter for that matter, take special care to not let it freeze in cold temps as it will split the membrane inside sending it to paper weight status. I keep mine in an inside pocket next to my body.
Also while it is one of my favorite pieces of gear for hiking, riding, or the apocalypse, beware that it only filters bacteria but not viruses. On the east side of the United States where I live viruses tend to not be an issue. Well, unless some a-hole with corona empties his bladder upstream as I'm filling mine.
BONUS- It is designed to fit just about any screwcap bottle or bladder. (Minus Platypus's proprietary crap-I mean cap) And if you don't want to carry the bulky plunger to backflush it, the tip also fits perfectly in a flip top smartwater bottle cap. So keeping an extra cap tucked away is a really good idea for a few reasons. Happy Trails!
I used mine for filtering rain water in my cabin. I ended up buying a length of hose that I connected to the tap of a ten liter jug that I hang on a hook from the ceiling. Then I plug in the filter at the end and stick it into jugs for filtered water.
I lived there using it regularly for two years. Sometimes when there was no rain for months I got water from random springs I passed. It made any water taste great.

Those sprockets are made by all big companies for years like Motomaster, Vortex, Supersprox etc etc
Make sure you compare the weight of those dual-material sprockets before buying - Even though aluminum is lighter than steel, being a two-piece design means they need to use more material and I have heard some of them can actually be *heavier* than just a well-designed steel sprocket.
@@adrianbroughton9752 an all steel sprocket is the best way to go if you ask me. Strong, wears good and no issues because it's once cut and not pieces
@@tacomas9602 I did 3,5k km with this sprocket, mainly off-road, with no issues, it still looks like new, deep notches clean themselves, which is invaluable in the mud. BTW, Moose is buying this from Polish producer, rebranding increasing cost by 110% ...goddamn capitalists ;)

@@adrianbroughton9752 This is true. For example, the stock steel sprocket of a 2004 Kawasaki ZX-10R is lighter than its SuperSprox equivalent (both 39 teeth). One drawback of the aluminum "core" sprockets with the steel teeth "ring" is the sprocket is light where it matters least and is heavy where it matters most, so a static weight savings of even as much as 1 pound doesn't really mean much if that savings is towards the center. You wont even notice any performance difference from just that. Supersprox for me is more for looks, not for performance.

I replaced the 50-tooth steel rear sprocket on my little Yamaha TW200 with a 40-tooth (probably should have only gone down to 42-43 toothed sprocket), in order to spread out the gears for street riding. Aluminum, drilled-out and titanium coated, made by Sprocket Specialists. The newer sprocket weighs virtually nothing in the hand. The older steel one was like a five-pound boat anchor.
Before: Topped out at 65 MPH with lots of vibration.
After: Tops out at 80 MPH, with NO vibration, along with an ungodly increase in fuel mileage. And still operates noticeably well in the lower gears.

That, and switching to micro-size turn signals have really lightened-up the motorcycle!

When I was in Korea, every local who rode a scooter had those oven mittens for protectors. At first I thought them exotic, but I soon realized the genius ingenuity behind them. Wouldn’t mind a pair myself
FortNine - something I learned from the phone installation industry. When cutting your Tie-Wraps use the smooth flat end of the wire dykes down towards the lil lock and the curved end up toward the piece you are removing. Give a tug and cut. This will let the Tie go slightly back into the hole, and not leave a short jaggy piece popping up for you to cut your hands on.
For those looking at the heated seat @5:40 just be careful there is slip up and it's not a fuse box that that was shown, it's a 5-pin automotive relay. This being said I went and looked at the product online and the description said nothing about being fused. Everyone makes a mistake but just be sure you don't and install and inline fuse with it. Ride on brother

I have this electric scooter thing that's pretty much a two wheel golf kart (i.imgur.com/I8FE28t.jpg) I use for errands around town, I got it because it uses huge tires (18x9.50-8) and I have to traverse dirt roads often. I'd like to put a Honda GX160 on it when the hub motor claps out but i'm having trouble finding a spot for correct chain placement and not having suspension at all concerns me & my nuts a lil'.

I find under-the-bars mirrors (very short mount, near where your thumbs can reach) work surprisingly well on SM/dirt bikes, and are much less likely to get taken out. I'd think they'd work on most ADV too, but not on anything with clip-ons or a lot of bodywork in that area.
In the US you are required to have mirrors above the handle bars. And the law is the most common reason people have mirrors on dirt bikes in the first place.

Two budget alternative ideas:
Ryde Angled Universal Motorcycle Mirrors are about £80 cheaper than doubletake . not as good at all, but they fold in quickly and with rubber washers solves any vibration problems and if somehow you do manage to break them its cheep as chips to get a new set.
Heated seats can be made on a budget with a £15 reptile heat mat a switch and a bit of DIY electronic silks.

Because of this video I invested in some bar risers being 6’3 and it stand alone the best mod I’ve done to my bike, it helped with comfort,control,steering sensitivity and vibrations, and my riding position it’s changes everything I’m so happy with em

I used to use bar muffs back in the 90s, when I was dispatch riding, and they looked even more dorky than these here.
It's amazing just how painful it can be when you fingers start to go numb and the vibrations kick in.
I remember a 400 mile day where I had to travel to Manchester from Brum, in winter, and then back again thereafter along the same route, and I'd not got bar muffs, the pain was excruciating and I almost crashed due to lack of feeling in my hands.
But crappy looking bar muffs for £40 saved my life thereafter

Rahbar Al Haq Well, each to their own... and your view is as valid as mine, but I’ve just put a digital dash on my Yamaha XT225, and its great to read speed and distance in MPH and miles rather than km. Many of the options on my unit have no relevance on the little XT, but i think its a great mod. Nice video too. Les in UK
analog speedos are easier to read, in all conditions. You are perfectly correct.
And now for the science behind it:
An analog tachometer has a specific position for speeds, an angle, that you get used to. You stop checking the number it points at and instead just check the angle it sits at and it's speed of movement, giving you a much quicker idea of how fast you're going and your delta V.
The digital speedo requires you to interpret the number you're reading and it is next to impossible to judge the delta V by the change in numbers. Further worth mentioning: Sunlight and glare.

Add Tank Grip (TechSpec are my fav!) and Pivot PegZ to that list to make it (almost) complete!
I did the Pivot Pegs on my DR-Z 400 and regret it. Hillclimbing? You're in the backseat and fighting to get your weight forward because your feet are rolled aft. Downhill is the same issue in reverse. The surface area to stand on is massive though and it's all day comfortable for riding the fire roads. Just wish I'd paid half as much for static pegs.
Good to see the Canadians doing so much on adventure bikes. My two brothers were born in Ontario, myself London, England and I spent eight years there as a child. We are all English now, though most Englanders guess incorrectly that I am an Aussie. Gonna get me some weight saving gear for my new KTM 350. Cheers old boy!
