English is the universal language, they all speak it in Europe. My foreign language skills consist of speaking English, and also speaking English really slowly and very loudly. You are doing great Liz, best of luck !

Welcome to Norway, and my “extended neighbourhood”. Looking forward to following your adventure. I’m one of those Norwegians that automatically switches to English when speaking to foreigners. I can’t control it any longer. Speaking as much English as Norwegian with my colleagues over many years have done this to me I guess.
Tomorrow I’m taking that ferry, again … #makelifearide

You are certainly getting your challenges on this adventure but it will make you a stronger person. I’m sure in real life, those views are absolutely stunning. Hope you are enjoying it as much has I am watching it.

A pink puck for parking? Perfect!
That first campsite looked like a place Jason Voorhees might stay in.
You're well on your way now. Enjoy!

Keep going! Very brave of you to do such a mission.
Not gonna be easy esp re weather. I know from my first camping trips on the bike wet weather can be a nightmare. Always have a backup plan like a b n b you can use (no point getting sick etc or riding super tired).

I forget that England is a place that people actually want to go, if you’re used to Norwegian temperatures then it’s good to go to England in Autumn - a bit colder and wetter but much less crowded and you can enjoy the nice things we have

You're doing fantastic, bound to have the odd moment being on your own, takes a lot of bottle to do a solo abroad trip like this, be better if the rain would do one. Keep the vlogs coming if possible.
Enjoy, take care, stay safe, 🏍🏍👌👌

Amazing adventure you are on. The water falls and mountains reminds me of riding through British Columbia, Canada. I would need to spend money on cabin and hotel rooms. Have a good, safe trip.

Just started watching these videos 6 days late. I know you are already at the top. I was there in June this year. Your OK with English everyone I met from allsorts of countries spoke to each other in English it's the norm so the locals would use it even if you were say German.

Regarding the language, Norway has a lot of very different dialects, and when a foreigner speaks Norwegian it is usually the Eastern "Oslo" dialect version of bokmål, one of three official languages in Norway (well one of four, if you count sign language). That's not even close to how we speak here on the West coast of Norway. I have found that answering in my own dialect just confuses the visitors, even if they speak passable Eastern Norwegian, cause they do not get a single word of what I am saying in my West coast dialect. It's quite different, more related to one of the other official languages, nynorsk. In fact a lot of Norwegians from the Eastern parts don't even understand me. So when you have some experience with visitors, and their understanding of the various dialects of Norway, it's just easier to switch to English right away.
A quirky example of dialect: "Æ e i Å æ å" is a full sentence, and will be understood by Norwegians. The bokmål version would be "Jeg er i Å jeg også", in my local dialect it would be "Eg e i Å eg åg", so as you can see, it can be very different from place to place. (Btw, it translates to "I am in Å as well" - Å is a place in Norway.)

Hi Liz, new sub here, just watching a few of your older vlogs. Great content and with the language barrier don't worry too much, try being a brummy from the black country asking for stuff in a foreign language 😂

  •  ปีที่แล้ว

    You've really been mowing today.
Speed cameras in Norway has to be marked before you encounter them :) There is a sign before it, that tells you that there is cameras up ahead, they don't tell you where, but that somewhere on this stretch of road, there is one :)
And for the mountain passes, there is seldom any warnings.. we kinda know we live in all these hills :P

Well done you! Don’t feel offended as they find it a chance to try their English when they meet an English person. You have more guts than some of my mates good onya chance of a lifetime. Grab it by the scruff and enjoy it

Wow, you sure gave yourself 'a lot to do in a day' for your first trip. I hope your schedule eases up a litlle so you can relax into the trip a little more, it all seems a bit 'hectic' to me at the minute. I find a 'proper' breakfast or brunch means you don't need to worry about lunch...provided you have a 'proper' meal at Dinner. Make sure you go somewhere and have some proper cooked food !! Oh, I should have said, I try to eat mostly vegan friendly at home due to a health condition (apart from Chicken😄 ) From my experience I'd ditch that idea, as it doesn't work on tour...even in the UK. Eat whatever you fancy....you'll find you sleep better too.

Don't be offended by people responding to your attempts at their language by using English. That happens all over Europe; often they are wanting to appear welcoming by using your language and also they like to practice their English. I'm forever practising my French in restaurants only to be presented with an English menu 😂
