We're also on the same ferry as you, and the classic cars at the end are two of ours, we're five in total on our way home to Bergen from a Classic VW meet in Denmark. These two are a black VW Karmann Ghia convertible and a VW Type3 Variant or Squareback. It's the shortest drive to any VW meet we're going to. Just a 15 to 30 minutes drive in Bergen to the ferry, and 45 minutes in Denmark... Anyway, a nice video! Thank You!!!
I was trying to explain to my wife why I love this channel. I couldn’t! It’s a bloke wandering around industrial areas looking for his ferry port or stuffing his face with a buffet breakfast or discussing public transport on the Faroe Islands. Sounds boring but it really isn’t. Many thanks, Steve.
I know exactly what you mean! I've tried to get people to watch as I know they would love it but it seems TV is more appealing 😉 Not to me! They're missing a treat, I'm totally hooked!
I agree with you. I’m ashamed to say that I always love seeing what food is on offer (eyes bigger than my belly) and industrial shipping etc is super interesting.
I think we all might dream of being Steve...but then, he does stuff we never think of doing...and his persona appeals to something in us all...he has that unspoken gift...
Hi Steve, my dad recently passed away, we had his funeral on Tuesday and in his last few days of his life he was telling me about a trip he made with the scouts back in 1955....to Bergen !. I couldn't believe it when your video popped up on my home page this morning 😊❤. Just him and 7 other adventure scouts were dropped off in Bergen and told to find their way to Oslo with just a map and a compass (no mobile phones in those days 😂). He absolutely loved that trip, and loved life. Telling us about his trip and sharing his memories gave him great comfort in his final days. Thank you so much for making this video, and for sharing it. It brought a tear to my eye.
My grandfather immigrated to America from Norway just before the turn of the 20th century. He was born on the island of Senja in Norway. He died in 1945. He became a Baptist minister, and was a circuit preacher in Tripp county South Dakota before South Dakota was even a state. He and his father (and the rest of the family) moved out to the Pacific Northwest. Both of them are buried in a cemetery in Portland Oregon. I have this yearning to go to Norway and spend a lot of time there looking around where he was born and just getting to know the country of my ancestors. I really appreciate this post.
Omg thank you for these videos - you just gained a subscriber! Not only are they the most soothing videos, they are helping me plan a trip to Norway with my kids and this ship looks like a good way to get around :)
I know I'm maybe a bit late, but I'll just clarify about the announcement at 16.06. Basically, the ship has a very short turnaround time in Bergen, only around 1 hour. Therefore, people have to check out of their cabins a couple of hours in advance, so the crew has time to clean the cabins before the next passengers
Best video I've seen from you so far. Thank you. Norway is paradise even when it's rainy. The ferry was majestic and believe me better than a cruise ship.
When you said you didn't have anything to eat or you hadn't bought anything all I could do was smile and shake my head. You do realize this is not the first time you've traveled aboard Ferry on the Sunday? I'm glad you finally got some food it looks delicious. And of all ferry's, although there aren't a whole lot, that I've been on with you, I like this one the best. Thank you so much for the work you do to bring these videos to us. Say hi to Alicia. Be well, stay safe, travel dry, love from Texas.
This video for me steve ,brought back so many memories..I used to see this ferry sail past us most days,I felt like I was coming home watching this video.i was in karmoy for 3 years and used to fly back and forth from Stavanger .and before that I was in Bergen off and on for a few years,Norway for me is my second home.absolutely love Norway and the people.
In May 1973 we decided to splash out and undertake a driving holiday to Norway and on return sell our car to raise the deposit for our first house in Whitby. We took the ferry from Newcastle and stopped in Stavangar for a couple of hours to sightsee. WOW what a place. We then carried onto Bergen and your video brings back all our memories of this stunning ferry trip. We toured for 2 weeks and ended up in Kristiansund and took the overnight ferry back to Bergan. We did not book a cabin just camped out on the port side and took advantage of the excellent recliners and wined and dined and chatted with new friends as we took in the stunning scenery gliding by. Your videos are a real treat and we love to travel with you to get ideas for our next adventure. Keep up the good work.
Aussie here who grew up in Melbourne, Victoria. I have to say that the ferries that I’ve seen on your channel absolutely blow my mind. Victoria does not have very many ferries though I do remember going on a pleasure trip with my mum and sisters from Port Melbourne to Sorrento as a child. My mum’s best friend, who was always late, arrived just as the little ferry was about to go so they threw her 6yr old son on but she had to get a taxi all the way to Sorrento which cost her a fortune. Here they are mainly used for pleasure trips, but I’ve been on one at Raymond Island on the Victorian coast which operates via a chain and takes cars but it’s a very short trip. It was the only connection for the people who lived on the island as there was no bridge. Beautiful spot, even though the mozzies are as big as magpies 😂 Love watching your travels very much! And the ferries are gorgeous!
It looked much like a 4-star cruise ship, but I prefer this more sedate, elegant style rather than the bright colors and lights of the mega-ships now at sea. Thank you for presenting this, Steve.
Did this more than fifty years ago from North shields. The North Sea was cruel to us! Loved Norway, but soooooo expensive. Thanks for taking us along and jogging my memory.
Wow, what a beautiful ship! And even with the weather you had, the views were drop dead gorgeous and very mysterious with the heavy clouds. Thank you for taking us with you.
We did this trip a couple of times starting at North Shields. Back then it left North Shields at 3pm on a Wednesday arrived AM in Stavanger and travelled to Bergen in daylight. We stayed overnight at Bergen and retraced our Journey back to North Shields arriving back Saturday. Very relaxing until you join the North Sea in a swell.
When we went in the early 2000,s from North Shields via the Fjords and then quick trip round Bergen and back AgaIn , very relaxing, they don’t do thaT route now.
The ex and I took the car to Bergen and upwards to Sognafyord back in 2001. We boarded the large ferry at Aberdeen if I recall correctly. It was the best holiday and best company ever. Sadly that ferry stopped because of higher spec legislation. Otherwise I'd be doing it again for sure.
Not the worst weather…seems that there was little to no wind. That’s a bonus! That ferry certainly was one of the nicest I’ve seen. Thanks so much for taking us along. ATB
You do have luck with the weather, in the end it was fabulous with the clouds just over the trees and all the multi coloured homes along the shore. What a gorgeous video, the ferry was fantastic as well. Looking forward to the comparison next week. Another Steve Marsh winner. ❤
You handled it so well, barely noticed the rain, the filming as always was really excellent and loved the choice of music. As always a wonderful journey to take us along on. 😍
Cheers Scott! Seriously mate, the region makes for and easy filming trip. The scenery does the hard work and everyone seems more than happy to welcome TH-camrs! I was in the Canning Museum in Stavanger, and when the guy realised I was making videos for TH-cam, he cranked the machine on for me to film it. I found Norway to be the country where 'have a nice day' is said with genuine sincerity. It's expensive, but worth the supplement! :)
welcome to Norway and my country. typical western weather you had. Bergen and Stavanger are two beautiful cities. You should have tried the coastal route Hurtigruten, which operates between Bergen and Kirkens, as far north as you can get on mainland Norway. great trip but expensive, maybe once with Alicja 🙃 hope you had a nice stay here in Norway. Another good vlog from Steve, thanks👍
It looks amazing. Some of the tours are actually pretty reasonable. Any night on board saves you $150 in hotel bookings and they include meals which in European capitals is not going to leave much change from $100 a day. Some of the tours include flights from Australia and compare well with 2 weeks in the Whitsundays.
Beautiful Bergen, it’s a shame the ferry stopped running from North Shields ( Port of Tyne ) to Bergen. I hope you had a trip on the Floibanen, it’s amazing. Loved cruising the fjords, Flam is my favourite! Thank you Steve, loved this video… memories ❤
Bergen the first location i went to abroad, i hate to think now how long ago, I was 15 ( now 76) it was a 2 week trip with the Boy Scouts. Kilts compulsory, But the local girls were interested in some old Scottish tradition regarding the wearing of them. made for a good ice breaker. Then it was a cruise up the Sonja Fijord to Ballestrand, then a coach to Voss, finally, a train to Oslo and back to Bergen. 2 of the most enjoyable weeks of my life. I have always wanted to return, but dont recognise this Bergen , only the venicular railway, which is a must , the view from the top over the harbour is fantastic
I just came back from my second Bergen - Kirkenes - Bergen round trip with Hurtigruten (different ships). First one was in summer a few years ago, so this trip in October/ November was quite different (a lot more snow lying around, fewer daylight hours - in summer there was no proper darkness in the northern half of the journey). Visited some places I missed last time because you can't do 2 things at once, included some winter-only things, saw the Northern Lights from the ship more than once.
I have done this voyage many times starting at North Shields England when Fjordline operated the ferry to Norway.Sadly NO FERRY to Norway from England Now .Love the video Steve
The old Bergen-Newcastle line was great. Quite a few people used it to go on roadtrips in the UK. Would be nice if it was economically viable to bring it back.
My 6th grade teacher was Norwegian. Loved seeing your trip this weekend. My first experience with Norway was in the Navy when we retreated into a fjord overnight during storms in the north Atlantic. Stunning scenery. Thanks again for your weekly experience. ❤
Blimey, that port is quite utilitarian makes Aberdeen look like the Emerald City 😂. The cruise upstream makes it well worth the rumbling tum. Stunning work as always Steve.
Hello again ; Fond memories are re awakening. 1959 saw me sailing from Newcastle on Tyne to Bergen, up the fenicular, train to Voss, Gudvangen, Balestrand, and back dow the Sogn fjiord to Bergen. So enjoying these vidios. Well done again.
I have had many port of calls into Bergen through the years, and every time we pass the yellow house at 19:15, im enviously of whoever lives there. What an amazing location.
I took this route around Christmas in 1988 from Bergen to Hirshtals. All I remember I is the horrible seas and drunks in the bar. The newer ferry looks beautiful. I’ll be back in Bergen next week. I hope the rain let’s up! Thanks for the beautiful views and info.
Ah, beautiful Norway! A country that never ceases to amaze, and seems to be stunning in all weathers. I've taken some of my best photos in Norway. I've yet to visit Bergen though, although it's still on my list. But an added bonus for me though Steve is that those helicopters you showed belong to the company I work for, so cheers for that mate! 😊
Wow. That arrival into Bergen was stunning. Stunning! Incredible montage, Steve. Funny thing, I literally just booked that very same journey for later in the year. I was too tight to add the lounge to my booking, so I'll definitely look into it! I'm always learning something from your videos. (I'll be popping over to Latvia afterwards, and I've learned I need to pay close attention if I head out of Riga by train... what an adventure you had there, right?! 😱) Thanks for another beautiful, practical, inspiring video Steve. Can't wait for the next one! Cheers, Tom
Even despite the weather what a stunning trip Steve, the clouds were spectacular at times👌In case anybody is wondering that isn't Scottish, deid means dead (as in very quiet)😂Cracking video once again mate👍
My parents met on a ship to Norway not long after WW11 and she must have fell in love with his uniform. As children we went there for several years as they liked the cooler climate. I do remember going up the funicular railway in Bergen/the fish market where you chose what fish you wanted as they were still swimming in tanks/the numerous jellyfish & the very high waterfalls. Lovely memories from 57 years ago
Amazing! Norway looks very beautiful! The views & scenery from this awesome ship are so beautiful & dramatic! The ship itself is outstanding, including the decor, the cleanliness & the design of the ship. I also loved the trees, greenery & foliage around the Restaurants & other areas within the ship. That was so unique as well. Not to mention the delicious looking food at the Buffet. All of this, along with your making shadow puppets on the wall at the Hotel..LOL & your quirky & funny remarks at times, made this whole voyage totally unique & thoroughly enjoyable! Thank you for sharing this delightful experience!
In the 1970s my parents and I took the ferry from Newcastle to Bergen, almost 24 hours on a mini cruise ship across the stormy North Sea. Bergen is beautiful, an old Hanseatic port like Bremen where I also lived, and we took the funicular up to the cloudy peak where we could see only white below us. We then took the Fjord Express Boot to Lavik on the Sognefjord, probably the most exciting boat ride I've ever been on: those boats looked like an MTB hull with an aircraft-type cabin grafted on, powered by massive diesels in the back that pushed us to 40 knots or more. Wow! I still have fond memories of Norway, and would love to go back there again (if I can afford it...) and take the Hurtigruten ferries all the way north to Bodo and Kirkenes.
Thanks for this lovely film showing of our fantastic Western Norway! As you can see, our beautiful weather comes directly from Bonnie Scotland! ☝️😁 (My second favorite country!) - Love from Bergen! ❤️❤️
That really does look like a superb trip and the ferry is definitely up to snuff. Once again a splendid Saturday treat. Norway always looks to be worth a trip.
Just got back from a 14-day cruise through the fjords--Just stunning scenery! I have been to Norway 5 times and already planning a return! Although traveling by ferry intrigues me.
@@AlexSteenOlsen I've taken it 5 times, and I can tell you: There can be a bit of sea, and it might be rocking you like a cradle, but it doesn't get shaky or dramatic. Just remember the earplug trick, and have a window to look out of, and you should do great.
With School Travel Service in 1960, we sailed from Newcastle to Stavanger over night with 40ft waves, then on to Bergen next morning. It is spectacular. Carried on to the Sogne Fjord on roads very different to what they are today. A country that has spent its wealth wisely!
I used to take the same ferry route as a mini-cruise from Newcastle. I think it was Colourline. Unfortunately, they stopped this service; it was lovely.
@@xvsupremacy7190 DFDS in 2007-8, before that is was Fjordline. Fjordline was excellent with fantastic food, went seriously downhill with DFDS and then they stopped in 2008 with too high tax on the fuel.
Great Video as usual Steve. Been to Bergen a few times and to be honest it does often make Scottish weather look fine and settled ! Hopefully it improved for you. I can highly recommend the Hurtigruten costal trips - they are primarily carrying supplies to communities along the coast of Norway so you are never short of something to see as they make various stops where they load/unload and some of the stops are long enough to disembark for a short time. The scenery is truly spectacular. We went from Tromso to Kirkenes at the tip of Norway on the border with Russia on a quest to see the Northern Lights - very funny when the Captain announced over the tannoy a sighting of the Northern Lights and the dining room emptied mid meal ! It’s certainly worth thinking about what season to go as I can vouch for the fact the seas can get very rough even though the ship is still generally hugging the coastline- maybe a summer trip to see the “midnight sun” ? A further consideration is the cost - very pricy but on the plus side I think you could record enough footage for several u tube videos !
Have been to Norway a couple of times, and three times to Bergen, the first time was 13 years ago, it was March, I had arrived by train from Oslo (still one of my best train rides ever, didn't like Oslo back then, though, sludge, a hostel room shared with smoking French tourists...), stayed right in the city centre's YMCA, and had a blast. Went up the Fløibanen, but it was chilly, drizzling and the cafe was closed, but what a view. Then I took this very ferry to Hirtshals, the Bergensfjord, it was magic, quite an expensive cabin, though. Second time in Norway, I didn't go to Bergen, in stead I visited friends in Oslo, made a trip to Trondheim (loved it, what a beautiful cathedral), but stayed mostly in and around Oslo. It was late August, and this time, the city made a much better impression on me. Took the Bergensfjord from Langesund to Hirstshals again (they make a return trip from Hirtshals in the day). Third time was 5 years ago, late Summer, made the trip in reverse. I arrived from Hirtshals (on Bergensfjord again), quite a nice day, walked through the city, tried walking up the Fløien this time, but stranded a little over halfway and returned from an intermediate station. Walked over the Nordnes peninsula to the Aquarium, stayed in a small village and in Voss for 2 nights, then took the Bergensbanen for a second time, this time to Norway. I also took the Flåmsbanen, absolutely spectacular (albeit a bit expensive). Flåm is a hole, though, there's an outlet shop with cafe, a hotel, a cute little church and a few houses, and that's it. If one of those gigantic cruise ships is moored, the town is literally crushed by it. And last time was this April, this time, it was a group trip, this time, and some things went not quite like planned. The Monday before our planned departure on Thursday from Eemshaven, the ferry company informed us that the sailing was cancelled. We had to scramble to find an alternative, finally went by train to Aarhus, spent the night, and went with Colorline (their terminal is much closer to the train station in Hirtshals) to Kristiansand. Had to take almost immediately upon arrival a train to Stavanger, so not much sightseeing in Kristiansand, unfortunately. In Stavanger, we did have a nice evening walk in the beautiful Old Stavanger and around Valberget. Next day, we took one of those long-distance buses that take the E39, a spectacular road with tunnels, bridges, and 2 ferry rides. I'm not the biggest bus person, but it was comfortable, and what a ride! We arrived around 3 in the afternoon, beautiful weather (it was warmer than it is today in Brussels, to be honest, and it's supposedly Summer right now), and this time, I went for it, up the Fløien, started very energetic to catch up with two elderly ladies of our group who had left a few minutes ago, but quickly lost steam. With a few pauses, I did make it, and I am still proud of that achievement. We stayed 2 days in Bergen, so the day after, we visited Fantoft Stavkirke, quite a spectacular building, but unfortunately, as it was still not high season it was closed. Also made some rounds on the Bergen tram, it's quite a trip. Next day, we left Bergen for Oslo. Still early Spring, so lots of snow, and again, a spectacular ride! Getting something to eat from the cafe car (and a beer, they have a beer specially made for them called Dresin, a cloudy pale ale), then stayed in a hotel in the main station. After a few days riding trams, the Oslo metro etc, we took a ferry from Oslo to Kiel, Colorline again, and speaking of cruise ferries, that's the most luxurious ferry I've ever been on (not entirely my taste, I like it a little less in-your-face, but still great to have experienced it.) After another long day on the train, we arrived back home, but what a trip. I love Norway, wish I could afford it more often!
Great video as always.. Really enjoyed this one.. I was in Norway in the spring and visited Oslo and the Lofoten Islands( stunning) and I have Bergen on my wish list.. This looks like a great option to go there.. Thanks so much !!!
loved this video Steve. We were on a Norwegian Fjord cruise a couple of weeks ago and it was just stunning. We docked in Haugesand next to the Penguins 😂. And yes the weather is typical for Norway! I fell in love with Norway and the people are just lovely too. This has made me want to go back very soon ❤ Thanks as always fir a great video. 😊
Loved the journey - it was atmospheric what with the clouds swooping in . The ship was extremely clean and well appointed . Nice to see the communities passing by as also the different ships . Thanks Steve .
Marsh well prepared as ever, sometimes you hate the automatic snack machines, but sometimes they are a godsend, I think the best views were the bridges and the helicopters. I hope you had time to try the funicular. Enjoyable trip. Thanks Steve
What a shame that the weather wasn’t on your side. The coast of Norway is truly stunning. The skill of the navigation up some of the channels is breathtaking. We found that all the ferries along that coast are cruise standard. Still a treat. Thank you.
Hi Steve - Overcast is good for videoing, as you can point your camera any direction!! Bergen has certainly changed since I was last there, 45 years back. Then the roughest sea journey I ever took, over to Newcastle, on the "MS Vomiting Venus". Nice to see Stavanger too. Thanks John
Very nice Steve m8. Our holiday plans are torn between The Faroer island, the Azoren and....... Norway, one part of that trip would be this very journey. Your vlogs help but they make it so difficult. You aren't going to the Azoren by any chance 😊. Brilliant journey that and that wee bit rain...... everything looks better in rain, greener and the rocks always look best when wet. I'd say you still got good weather👍😁
Steve my wife and I are really on our holidays watching you At our ages travel was out of our price range Now we share your experiences doing stuff we would do if we could. Both in our late seventies we love your trips Thank you so much
Another great vid Steve! Would love to see you on a cruise, I believe some of the MSC cruise ships let you start and end your journey at any point on the ships itinerary so you could just be onboard for a day or 2
Looks like that was a really nice ferry. I haven't been to Bergen but I would like to go there by train from Oslo one of these days. I have read that the 7 hour train journey is very scenic.
Nice video. Never been on the ferry between Stavanger(Tananger) and Bergen. 2 places where you need to be lucky with the weather (especially Bergen, the city with most rain in northern europe) Still like both Stavanger and Bergen. 2 very nice cities when it isn't raining. Nice old houses in some parts of the cities, lovely views of the fjord if you know where to go and other places to see as wellnif you stay long enough. See you are going to Stavanger in next video. Hope you went to preikestolen/pulpit rock even if it would be a full day to do it (and easier if you have a car). I used to live in Stavanger and Sandnes.
@@steve-marsh found your channel when you visited Gothenburg where I live now. I like how you do different ways to travel (not only flights). Also a grrat choice to go to the archipelago in Gothenburg. Keep it up with your great job!
used to take an overnight ferry from Copenhagen to Helsinki, beautiful cabin, less than airfare and far more enjoyable......loved all my visits to these countries
Norway looks stunning and the clouds and rain only improved it in my opinion. I just disembarked the Grand Princess last Saturday after spending a week through Alaska’s inside passage and I have to say, your ferry was much, much fancier! (Although in fairness, she was built in 1998). Were there not enough places to sit and not buy a drink though? All those people sitting on the floor is why I’m asking. As always, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. You’re my best resource for future travel plans as I also love a good ferry.
Cheers! Oh Alaska - a distant dream for me! I was confused by the folks sitting about too, I still can't work that out, it wasn't;t even a particularly busy ferry!
@@steve-marsh I'm guessing they were trying to hang out close to the exit and were eager to disembark. Probably locals who have seen the approach before.
You've got to do Alaska!!! I have been by cruise ship but also by ferry from Bellingham, Washington, a very unique experience. Scenery is gorgeous, but having just done a fjords cruise, I think Norway is the best!
@@janicehemen4203 I JUST found out about that ferry and totally would have done that, if I'd known. But I live in the Chihuahua desert where it's been absurdly hot, was lying on the couch watching people stare at glaciers and thought, oh that looks better than this, how much is it I wonder? Turns out if you book 7 days out and get an obstructed view cabin, quite doable! And Alaska is my points airline so getting to Anchorage was free. Different situation than Steve and Alicja who would spend an arm and a leg just to get to Alaska or Vancouver (or Seattle). I just spent all my time out on deck. But Steve if you're checking in, Icelandair sometimes has a cheap fare Glasgow -Reykjavik -Seattle. And there are cruises that leave out of Seattle. Bellingham where the ferry leaves from would be about three hours north on a bus or the train. (Check those Seattle cruises though and make sure they're taking the inside passage and not the Pacific route.) The cruises out of Vancouver, BC all take the Inside Passage.
Bergen is the most beautiful town/city in Norway. It is far more prettier than Oslo. Stavanger is..... oil. For some reason, Oban reminded me of Bergen the first time I visited Oban 27 years ago. Maybe I am barking mad or I had too much of that Oban single malt. Or was I barking mad ? Great video !! We need to restore the ferry between Newcastle and Bergen. Btw I have had two ex-workmates moving back from Glasgow to Bergen because it was far too much more rain in Glasgow/Greenock than Bergen.....
Bergen actually has roughly 1.75x the annual precipitation of Glasgow, but only ~30 more annual rainy days on average. The "winners" vary from one year to another, but Bergen always competes in the top 5 for most annual rainfall and most rain days in European cities each year, sometimes winning one or both categories. May and June are usually the dryest months if you decide to give Norway another go, this was pretty unfortunate. Would recommend going further north though. The west coast is pretty, but it gets absolutely stunning further north :)
23:46 The green one is a VW Type 3 Varient (someone I know has a yellow one called Bess) and the black convertible is a VW Karmann Ghia. Great video Steve. Looks like an incredible ferry journey to take although maybe better on a sunny day
Steve...Your Videos get better and better although soft spot for Alicjia's humour keeping you your toes...I worked on a Celebrity Cruise ship into both Stavanger and Bergen....a number of years ago so happy memories...thank you for everything you do to entertain us...educate us and make us smile too....
Beautiful trip. If you didn't have all that rain, you wouldn't have all the wonderful green landscape. I wish we had more rain so we would greener here. Thanks again!
I have done this trip several times but always the full journey from Denmark. This video brought back so many good memories! The most fascinating thing about Fjordline is that they are constantly improving their ships. Everytime after embarking I ask myself whether this thing was already there when I was on bord the last time. In a way this journey was my personal „transit drug“ to do the famous coastal express (which btw starts at the same terminal building in Bergen) journey between Bergen and Kirkenes because I felt so in love with the scenery between Risavika and Bergen. What makes Bergen such a special city is in my opinion the arrival there. No matter which mode of transport you take it is always spectacular. An alternative to the Fjordline ferries is the bus service between Bergen and Stavanger, which is not that spectacular but also verry nice and the bus takes smaller ferries crossing the fjords twice.
Thank you so much Steve slowly catching up Internets been down here for a couple of days...Wife and l love your dry humor and we love your blog thanks mate once again appreciate the time and effort you put in to bring us all this...regards Doc from Down Under
Steve, I just discovered this channel a couple weeks ago, and I love it! I’m devouring as much of it as I can! Total binge watching! Keep up the great work, my friend!
Your comment alone has made me become a subscriber.
No... it's boring.

Very nice Ferry. Looks a bit like a mini cruise ship
So glad you enjoyed it, and I can see Norway means a lot to you, wish you a trip there soon!
Senja is perhaps one of the most beautiful parts of the country. Quite a distance away from Bergen geographically and culturally.
@t00b3z True! Visit Lofoten islands as well, correctly called the most beautiful region in NO
Omg thank you for these videos - you just gained a subscriber! Not only are they the most soothing videos, they are helping me plan a trip to Norway with my kids and this ship looks like a good way to get around :)
Do NOT leave your child unattended. Unattended children will be confiscated and detonated. Thank you. The Crew.
@@ImogenC-rt3fm Detonated ?! holy..
Steve, in my opinion, the weather made your footage even more spectacular.
More atmospheric eh! Clouds in the trees especially!
Definitely 😊
Haha typical eh! I had banked on that supermarket being open, but I really got caught out (again) will I ever learn!?
Now housebound having travelled and lived worldwide..I'm so enjoying my virtual travel with you Steve..it feels as though I'm there..
Never fails to make me smile : "wee this, wee that,..." . Together with that Scottish accent. Absolutely magic 👏👍
Im a chief officer on ferries in Norway and I must say i really enjoy your videos :D
Hey thanks so much! Great to hear from you!
@@steve-marsh hope you do Color Line’s ferries sometime too 🤩 Or Hurtigruten
All of Steve's videos are just ...'So There'. Thanks for letting the rest of the world enjoy your travels and comments.
It looked much like a 4-star cruise ship, but I prefer this more sedate, elegant style rather than the bright colors and lights of the mega-ships now at sea. Thank you for presenting this, Steve.
As well as being an excellent travel doco, your choice of music is spot on 🏴
Did this more than fifty years ago from North shields. The North Sea was cruel to us! Loved Norway, but soooooo expensive. Thanks for taking us along and jogging my memory.
I'd love to see that route back again!
@steve-marsh
Try P & O Cruises they go to Norway. Lovely but drinks onboard are expensive.
Wow, what a beautiful ship! And even with the weather you had, the views were drop dead gorgeous and very mysterious with the heavy clouds. Thank you for taking us with you.
Well said! It really is a beautiful country in ANY weather!
I just loved Bergen and will go back any day! The whole of Norway is clean and stunningly beautiful! Love the country ❤❤❤❤
This route sounds awesome! Wish it was still around! :(
Another great video. Thank you. Norway on a Sunday looks too much like Lewis on the Sabbath for comfort. 🙂
My Norwegian friend told me that there are plans to reintroduce the route in a couple of years.
Good morning all, and nice one again......nice to see Norway gets Scottish summers too. Gotta love a ferry video!
Haha yes very familiar weather!
Not the worst weather…seems that there was little to no wind. That’s a bonus! That ferry certainly was one of the nicest I’ve seen. Thanks so much for taking us along. ATB
You are spot on, a bit of wind would have made it even more challenging Erin!
Another brilliant Saturday morning video as always Steve. Thank you 👍
Really appreciate it thanks :)
You do have luck with the weather, in the end it was fabulous with the clouds just over the trees and all the multi coloured homes along the shore. What a gorgeous video, the ferry was fantastic as well. Looking forward to the comparison next week. Another Steve Marsh winner. ❤
You're right actually, it turned out very atmospheric. I was dreading the forecast of heavy rain all the way, that would have been a wipeout!
You handled it so well, barely noticed the rain, the filming as always was really excellent and loved the choice of music. As always a wonderful journey to take us along on. 😍
I'm always blown away by these Scandinavian videos you do. Absolutely stunning. Great work mate!
Well it's been a pleasure watching your clips. One can visit Europe without leaving the comfort of ones home. Well thanks Steve
Thanks so much! More to come from this (rainy!) trip :)
welcome to Norway and my country. typical western weather you had.
Great shout from local knowledge - yeah, that's one I'd want to enjoy with Alicja for sure!
Hurtigruten is not cheap but the scenery only gets better as you go further North. It's worth it for a special trip.
Ya !
I sure did - coming next week :)
@@steve-marsh I will look forward to that, hope you enjoyed it! I loved it!
Yes, years ago I did that trip from Shields to Bergen. Fantastic!
Yes, I have been to Bergen, LOVED it. That was on the Hurtigruten ferry, To Kirkened past North Cape, never to be forgotten.
Us too.
Ach those were the days! BRING IT BACK!
Wow that sounds like some adventure! Cool memories!
Blimey, that port is quite utilitarian makes Aberdeen look like the Emerald City 😂. The cruise upstream makes it well worth the rumbling tum. Stunning work as always Steve.
Cheers Janine, I wondered where I'd landed at first! :D
I simply love your video's Steve......with you all the way, and back ! just the ticket, on a cold rainy weekend !
Aww thanks so much!!!
Beautiful and interesting, as usual. Thanks for taking us along 😊
Thanks so much :)
Oh I wish that sailing was still a thing!
What a stunning cruise. Thanks for sharing this . What a lovely place is Bergen.
Thanks Malcolm! :)
Hi Steve Australian fan here. Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your channel. Your work is certainly high quality.
That ship is beautiful and I’m completely jealous
I have had many port of calls into Bergen through the years, and every time we pass the yellow house at 19:15, im enviously of whoever lives there. What an amazing location.
I took this route around Christmas in 1988 from Bergen to Hirshtals. All I remember I is the horrible seas and drunks in the bar. The newer ferry looks beautiful. I’ll be back in Bergen next week. I hope the rain let’s up! Thanks for the beautiful views and info.
National Costume in Bergen Raincoat and Umbrella (only sometimes)
Haha wishing you a dry stay in Bergen! I had to get up very early to avoid the rain for filming (see next week!)
I'm not certain why, but this video gave me a very peaceful feeling.
Haha that's so cool mate!
Are they bristow sikorsky helicopters hes showing? Haven my fair shair of rides in those
@@CoachDarkroam Yes. They're S92s.
Your photography on this one was beautiful. Thank you.
Cheers, Tom
Oh thanks for reminding me mate :D Hey, you'll love this ferry, even in my weather!
You do a wonderful job selecting the music. Very uplifting and calming. thanks!
Even despite the weather what a stunning trip Steve, the clouds were spectacular at times👌In case anybody is wondering that isn't Scottish, deid means dead (as in very quiet)😂Cracking video once again mate👍
Haha cheers for the translation mate :)
Haha thanks so much Annie, you could tell I was struggling to sleep in the hotel room :D
Hi!!!! Haha yes whether I recognise well! But like I say in Scotland and Norway both - they look great in ANY weather :)
I have been to Bergan. It is a beautiful city. You brought back memories. Thank you.
That really does look like a superb trip and the ferry is definitely up to snuff. Once again a splendid Saturday treat. Norway always looks to be worth a trip.
Thanks so much :) The whole trip was wonderful (despite the weather!)
Just got back from a 14-day cruise through the fjords--Just stunning scenery! I have been to Norway 5 times and already planning a return! Although traveling by ferry intrigues me.
@@steve-marshwas it shaky? i get sick fast
@@AlexSteenOlsen
I've taken it 5 times, and I can tell you: There can be a bit of sea, and it might be rocking you like a cradle, but it doesn't get shaky or dramatic.
Dfds
@@xvsupremacy7190 DFDS in 2007-8, before that is was Fjordline. Fjordline was excellent with fantastic food, went seriously downhill with DFDS and then they stopped in 2008 with too high tax on the fuel.
It's a beautiful world Steve
Love the end compilation
Here's to more Bon Voyages 👍
Hope the weather got better, still looks nice though and the ship looked good, looks a lovely place even in the full light, lovely low clouds😊
It was a tricky filming trip all in, weather was all over the place, but hopefully I captured some dry spells :D
Such a beautiful landscape, the countryside is so amazing
Absolutely loved reading this, thanks so much for taking the time to post it! Some good tips in there for my future trips too, I'm taking notes!
@@steve-marsh always welcome. I'm probably not getting to Norway anymore this year or next year, though.
Great video as always.. Really enjoyed this one.. I was in Norway in the spring and visited Oslo and the Lofoten Islands( stunning) and I have Bergen on my wish list.. This looks like a great option to go there.. Thanks so much !!!
Oh Lofoten is an absolute dream for me, one day!
Steve this is wonderful. I love your photography and am really impressed with the bridge shots, they put perspective to your work. Thank you 🙏
loved this video Steve. 😊
Wow that's the way to do it!
Yeah, some things never change eh!
What a fantastic ferry. Spotless Clean and modern and a lovely breakfast. Looks a great trip
It was just incredible Phil, best one yet by a mile!
What a shame that the weather wasn’t on your side. The coast of Norway is truly stunning. The skill of the navigation up some of the channels is breathtaking. We found that all the ferries along that coast are cruise standard. Still a treat. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Yeah, it was a bit damp but I always say - could have been worse! :D
That's a good way to look at it mate! Haha I'll complete your destination list one day! :D
Fantastic video! Gorgeous scenery, and even the weather made it look beautiful! Thanks for standing in the rain for us for those views!
An absolute pleasure! :)
Good video Steve. I've been up and down that stunning coastline of Norway and rough seas make it quite an uncomfortable trip. 😉
I must say I'd quite fancy it (just for a video)!
Steve my wife and I are really on our holidays watching you At our ages travel was out of our price range Now we share your experiences doing stuff we would do if we could. Both in our late seventies we love your trips Thank you so much
Thanks so much for coming along for the ride :)
Another great vid Steve! Would love to see you on a cruise, I believe some of the MSC cruise ships let you start and end your journey at any point on the ships itinerary so you could just be onboard for a day or 2
Oh really!? You've got me thinking!
Viva Steve Marsh! Through thick and thin (lots of thin) he ventures forward and shares his journeys. Thx!
Looks like that was a really nice ferry. I haven't been to Bergen but I would like to go there by train from Oslo one of these days. I have read that the 7 hour train journey is very scenic.
It's a great journey! I did it in pretty awful weather, but will try to cobble a wee video together on it!
Love this journey. The ferry is pretty beautiful as well as the scenery! Thanks again!
Nice video. Never been on the ferry between Stavanger(Tananger) and Bergen. 2 places where you need to be lucky with the weather (especially Bergen, the city with most rain in northern europe)
Still like both Stavanger and Bergen.
Sadly I was only in both cities for a few hours so didn't get the change to do any out-of-town trips, but there will always be a next time!

used to take an overnight ferry from Copenhagen to Helsinki, beautiful cabin, less than airfare and far more enjoyable......loved all my visits to these countries
Correction:@steve-marsh. I only discovered your channel today!
Loved it as always, incl. the arrival song. Thanks Steve!
Haha I believe it! Aye, I really wish that ferry would make a return!
The weather actually lends additional mystique 😉What a wonderful journey! Thank you for taking us along. Solid move on opting for the buffet. 👍🏼
So glad it cleared a little, was looking dodgy for a moment :D

Oh I'd love to do the full route now as well! Totally agree, Bergen is an incredible city to arrive in!
Loved the views from the ship. Especially when the mountains seem to disappear into the clouds. Can’t wait to see the follow up video next week 👍
In the end the weather was fairly atmospheric! :) Thanks, editing the next one right now!
What a charming video! The ferry is beautiful and that buffet looked scrumptious! I didn’t even mind the weather.
Thanks Patricia! Without that buffet there would have been no video! :D
