First ever time with Brad Pitt and Leo D in the same movie. Love you guys ❤
A fun story - When The World's End came out, I went to a trilogy marathon showing where they showed Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz first, timed so that The World's End would start at midnight on its launch day. Cornettos were served in the gaps between each film, and each film also had a little intro by Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright. In the intro for this film, Simon Pegg told us "Shaun of the Dead contains 77 uses of the F word, and we want you to applaud every time you hear it."
Yeah when he hits, he hits. But Last Night in Soho was a bore. Couldn't finish it. It's like all his originality and style was drained. Hope his next movie delivers.
As a Brit the Cornetto trilogy which for those who don't know is (Shaun of the dead hot Fuzz and world's end) is part of iconic British culture. Most people over here know the films and have a favourite. Glad you are doing this film hopefully you enjoy the rest of the trilogy
I love all three movies, and for the longest time I refused to pin down a "favorite." Because doing so felt like betraying the other two movies, to me. Finally, I conceded that maybe "Hot Fuzz" was my favorite. But all three movies are just completely unforgettable, and we're all better off for having seen them.
@@jacob4920 Both this and Hot Fuzz are infinitely rewatchable and just pure fun. World's end is every bit as good, but it's also so much heavier. I think this is my least favorite of the trilogy, but it's a tight race all around.
"You've got red on you." Fun fact, there was a cult classic show called Spaced with a lot of the actors from the cornetto trilogy, and the fans loved it so much that they agreed to be extra's as zombies in this for the low budget. They were originally going to do it for free, but due to laws they had to be paid and so they used a loop hole that allowed them to pay the fans £1 each to be zombies for the scenes with hordes of zombies.
The episode of Spaced where Tim is dreaming about zombies is where the idea for Shaun of the dead came from. That show was so great. I have epic finger gun fights with friends all the time.
in the begining when Ed and Shaun are in the pub, Ed spoils the majority of the movies plot with his description of how the day will go. "we'll have a Bloody Mary first thing" - The zombie in the garden is named Mary, and she's bloody. "have a bite at the king's head" - Shauns stepdad gets bit in the neck "couple at the little princess" - They go to pick up Shauns girlfriend (the princess) and the other guy and girl are also there (the couple) "we'll stagger back here" - In order to get to the pub, they have to pretend to be zombies (staggering back to the pub) "BANG! back at the bar for shots" - They use the rifle above the bar to shoot the zombies
I love this movie. Simon did a show called Spaced prior to this, where he starred with the leader of the other group of survivors in this movie. So them running into each other was a nod to that show.
I always felt like that chick was an "ex," who still clung to Shaun like a bestie, because she hoped he would one day break up with Liz, and fall back into her arms. But she didn't make it super obvious. The fact that she's always so happy to see him, regardless of the situation, and she specifically shows up with the freaking ARMY, to save him from the Winchester zombies, always kinda told me that she had a thing for Shaun. But she doesn't wish Liz was dead, either, so she's just a genuinely good person.
It's also where they were inspired to do a zombie film, after the Spaced episode where Shaun is playing resident evil all the time they started thinking about it. Edit: Automatically typed Shaun because the video is Shaun of the Dead, his name is Tim in Spaced though (realised while looking for an old comment in my history).
This is absolutely masterful writing, every line and word has a purpose, at the start everything they say predicts later points in the film. Pete literally says to Ed at the very start "the next time I see you, you're dead" and "Why don't you go and live in the shed" for example.
One of the interesting things about the zombies in this movie is you do see some of them retain their baser personality traits. Phillip annoyed by the music, Pete showing up at the pub to drink with Shaun and Ed like back in the day, Ed playing videogames with Shaun. The neat one was zombie Barbara being completely passive until David yelled at Shaun
Peter Sarafinowicz who plays their roommate Pete was the original voice of Darth Maul in Phantom Menace. Liz’s friend Diane is also in Wonder Woman as Chris Pine’s secretary Etta Candy.
In England, you can name any word and put 'ed' on the end of it and it'll mean drunk. So 'Munted' is drunk, alongside Trollied, Rat-arsed, plastered, battered etc.
Dude WTF, I was LEGIT watching one of your vids yesterday and thought "man I wish they had a shaun of the dead reaction". What kind of crazy universe bullshit is this?! (Thank you universe) Love this movie to death, it's amazing how Wright does callbacks to basically all of his jokes. It's brilliant
I like Shaun of the Dead but Hot Fuzz is easily a 'desert island' pick for me. It also means more to me because my biological father (whom I found out about when I was 26 and 1st met when I was 28) is now a retired Police Chief. I'm 54 now and we've had a great relationship since we met. 😊
"I'm fine!.. I ran it under a cold tap." This humour is very British. It's the stiff upper lip thing. But also some British homes are old and back in the day we used to have immersion heaters instead of boilers, and so the way it was plumbed meant that the hot water was stored stagnant water, so you would use the cold tap because it was plumbed into the mains which was treated and filtered meaning it was more sterile. But older people would always say just run it under a cold tap for pretty much any wound back in the day. It's also the reason some homes still have the separate hot and cold taps till this day even though they have probably had boilers installed.
Fun fact: After David was pulled out the window and killed and Dianne ran outside... she survived. She managed to get away from the crowd of zombies and climbed up a tree, where she was able to stay safe until she was rescued by the army. This was revealed in a special feature on the DVD release. There was another one that explained what Shaun did after he lured the zombies away from everyone at the front door of the pub - basically, he had to keep stopping to let them catch up so he didn't lose them completely, then he hid in a dumpster until they dispersed and he could make his way back to the pub.
Hot Fuzz is definitely one of my favorites too. I also really love that quick editing style that Hot Fuzz and Shawn of the Dead have. Also, on the Shawn of the Dead dvd, there's a special feature that explains that dianne actually ended up surviving at the end!
One of my favorites. Love catching all the easter eggs to other zombie movies. Especially enjoy when Ed foreshadows the entire plot of the film while talking to Shawn in the pub.
George A. Romero, the creator of the modern zombie with Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Dawn of the Dead (1978), actually really liked this movie and gave Simon Pegg a cameo as a zombie in Land of the Dead. This is really a great zombie film, probably in many people's top 10 zombie films.
And the Director Edgar Wright. I believe Simon and Edgar were in Canada promoting Sean of the Dead when they were filming Land of the Dead when they were offered the cameos.
Both "Shaun of the Dead" and "28 Days Later" are my all-time favorite zombie movies that are made by two of my favorite British directors. "Hot Fuzz" is also my favorite movie of Wright's "Cornetto Trilogy".🙂💯
I saw this in the theater, and am old enough that me and all my friends laughed long and hard at the "WE'RE COMING TO GET YOU, BARBARA!" line. So many brilliant references in this film...and really wonderful use of Queen.
The woman he keeps running into is the co-star/co-writter of Spaced the show they were doing together that gave them the idea to make this movie between seasons. Edgar Wright also directed the show and Nick Frost was his friend in that too.
The standing interview/review/discussion thing took awhile to grow on me, when you first started doing it I hated it, but it's really grown on me. Makes the channel stand out from other channels like it.
Edgar Wright is my favorite director, he is the master of edits, his style opened my eyes about what is posibble in movies. Can't wait for you guys to watch other movies of his, specially Scott Pilgrim (Maybe even Baby Driver?)
When Ed says "We'll have a Bloody Mary first thing, a bite at the King's Head, a couple at the Little Princess, stagger back here, and bang, back at the bar for shots," he's giving a summary of what will happen in the movie. Bloody Mary first thing = woman in the backyard Bite at the King's Head = Philip gets bit Couple at the Little Princess = David and Dianne stagger back = pretend to be zombies back at the bar for shots = using the gun in the Winchester Side note: "We're coming to get you, Barbara" is a Night of the Living Dead reference.
I really like Shaun of the Dead & The World's End (most of it filmed in & around my town), but Hot Fuzz (some of which filmed in my mum's theatre) is hands down a comedy classic. I remember Quentin Tarantino loved it so much he did the dvd commentary.
At 15:29, where it has the duplicate lune of people, immediately behind Martin Freeman is the brilliant Reece Shearsmith. One of the League of Gentlemen and the writer/performers ,alongside Steve Pemberton of Psychoville and Inside No 9. They are two of the best writer/actors working today 😊😊😊
I adore this film. When the two groups pass each other, all the actors are familiar to British audiences. There’s the sense that a different version of the same film is playing out with the other group, but instead of heading for The Winchester, they actually find the army to help out.
This was the first film I snuck into the cinema to watch... I was 12 at the time and it was a 15 in the UK where I am... no idea how I managed it. I love this film to bits. Edgar Wright is brilliant
I often wonder if the “winding the camera” gag after the zed-girl stands up falls short for recent generation viewers. Sometimes I even wonder if they even know what a camera NOT attached to their phone even looks like . . . l’ve even seen Gen Z reactors look puzzled when seeing a rotary phone, so . . .?
The first time I watched this movie was when I was 7. I was trying to find ways to not take a shower and ran in my brother's room. He is 3 years older than me. He was watching this movie. The only scene that still haunts me is when the zombies pulled the dude with glasses through the window and tore him apart. Great react and love your videos
I've seen this movie dozens of times and it was cutting in and out watching on YT here for me to catch the "We're Coming To Get You Barbra!" joke (referencing Night of the Living Dead from 1968) at least remembering that reference was in there! Love watching y'all enjoy movies together!
Two things: I love every time you pull out the British accent, Jen; it never fails to make me smile. (And I think better than Holden's when he tried to say exacerbate). And munted means messed up. You can be munted after drinking too much. But you can also be munted (in a different way) in a car accident. I dropped my phone in the sink the other day and now it's totally munted. You get it.
I'm from the UK and just assumed it was made up in the film. I've lived across the country (literally from Brighton, through to Orkney) and never heard anyone say it in real life before or after this film.
@wyterabitt2149 we have more words than any other language. You'll live your life not hearing most of them, including slang (which changes all the time)
Fun fact brian may of queen let them use that song partially because it was one of queen’s least popular songs until this movie came out and made it more popular. also in a comic it is revealed liz’s roommate climbed up a tree and survived.
we just uploaded this movie on my channel..same with copyright claims..like 7 times we tried..good on you for just putting it out! Keep up the awesome!
"We're coming to get you Barbara!" is a take on the classic line from George Romero's Night of the Living Dead, "They're coming to get you Barbara!". Hot Fuzz is for me the best of the Cornetto Trilogy.
Fun Fact: Pete (Peter Serafinowitz) is the voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode 1. Great video as ever I started watching you two and the doggies about 2 days ago and Im hooked. Great Content!
I love it when they are going through the town, and meet that group that is their doubles. Shaun's roommate was a Nova corps member in Guardians, and was The Tick in the Amazon series. I would recommend doing Baby Driver if you have not seen it, it's another film by Edgar Wright
I agree with jen about the humor. This movie never made me really laugh, but it was mildly funny throughout, and the charm of the characters, light comedy, and genuinely tense and dramatic moments make it one of my favorite zombie movies.
Fun fact, the game they're playing on the ps2 is Timesplitters 2, and in return one of the zombies in Timesplitters 3 says "you've got red on you" when you select them
If anyone is interested... 21:02 Diana didn't die going into the horde after David, she fought back using Davids leg, climbed a tree and passed out, she remained up there for 3 days climbed back down after seeing the zombies gone, she now lives with her mum but remains in "Christmas Card" contact with Shaun and Liz.
There are a couple of jokes that run through all three of the Cornetto movies. I'll be curious to see if Jen catches them. Of the brom-coms that are out there, this is among my favorites.
The girl she met at the road and matrin freeman in the mid of the movie it was a homage to their show called spaced ... In this trilogy all the cast did cameos .. I loved it
Always fascinating to see Americans reactions to British humour, the nuances and levels ours work on are totally different to American straight down the line humour. The Cornetto Trilogy is brilliant and look forward to seeing the next two especially the Worlds End which is the best of the three for me.
OMG IM SO HAPPY. Like a week ago I searched up Shaun of the dead thinking you and Matt had seen it but you hadn’t. NOW I SEE THIS and you watched it with Jenna this made my day. Cant wait to see you watch hot fuzz and worlds end too. Worlds end is my favourite out of the three.
As a brit, the thing with british humour (when done well) is that it's equal parts smart and silly. This movie is filled with really silly jokes, bits of slapstick and just a general daft tone; but it has just as many really clever lines of dialogue, whip-crack bits of editing/visual humour or poetic dialogue/scenes that get revisited and recontextualised later in the film ("you've got red on you" & "I'm sorry Shaun"). I think it's really easy for people who aren't used to this kind of comedy to either miss the jokes because they come and go so fast, are delivered in a very dry/sarcastic manner or they simply aren't sure when the film is making a joke vs trying to be serious.
This is my favorite movie of the trilogy, maybe because when I first saw this, it was something I had never really seen before. Several scenes made me pause from laughing so hard, especially the beginning of the zombie invasion, when they are so oblivious. I still can't hear the name "Pete" without thinking about them at the bottom of the stairs, calling his name, and I just crack up in my head.
Edgar Wright is one of my favorite directors, and Hot Fuzz is my absolute comfort movie! I write movie reviews on instagram, and the best day of my life was when I reviewed Wright's latest movie, Last Night in Soho, and he actually liked my Instagram post!
11:50 that is a reference to the original night of the living dead, one of the characters teases the main girl by trying to scare her ‘there coming to get you, barbara’ 😂
My favourite thing about this trilogy is that, no matter what your favourite movie is, i totally understand why you like it the most. Theyre all thay damn good
Even though it’s not classified as part of the Cornetto saga, Paul is another funny movie with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, they just have such great chemistry together Another show they are great in is Truth Seekers
This is one of my favorite zombie movies of all time. Its classic in its comedy and it doesn't lessen the horror of the living dead either. Edgar wright is one of the best.

When Ed says "We'll have a Bloody Mary first thing, a bite at the King's Head, a couple at the Little Princess, stagger back here, and bang, back at the bar for shots," he's giving a summary of what will happen in the movie.
Bloody Mary first thing = woman in the backyard
Bite at the King's Head = Philip gets bit
Couple at the Little Princess = David and Dianne
stagger back = pretend to be zombies
back at the bar for shots = using the gun in the Winchester
Side note: "We're coming to get you, Barbara" is a Night of the Living Dead reference.

The only scene that still haunts me is when the zombies pulled the dude with glasses through the window and tore him apart. Great react and love your videos
"We're coming to get you Barbara" is my favorite line in this movie!
You'll live your life not hearing most of them, including slang (which changes all the time)
This is in my top 10 movies, so important to my parents and I. We quote it whenever we’re together, there’s so many iconic lines.
Not only did I watch Hot Fuzz couple dozen times, also flew to UK from Poland just to visit Wells, the city where they shot most of it. 10/10 movie
He also voices darth maul in the phantom menace, which I'm assuming Holden already knows.
I agree with jen about the humor. This movie never made me really laugh, but it was mildly funny throughout, and the charm of the characters, light comedy, and genuinely tense and dramatic moments make it one of my favorite zombie movies.
One of my favorite comedies. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are best friends in real life.
Fun fact, the game they're playing on the ps2 is Timesplitters 2, and in return one of the zombies in Timesplitters 3 says "you've got red on you" when you select them
If anyone is interested... 21:02
Diana didn't die going into the horde after David, she fought back using Davids leg, climbed a tree and passed out, she remained up there for 3 days climbed back down after seeing the zombies gone, she now lives with her mum but remains in "Christmas Card" contact with Shaun and Liz.
hope u watch the whole cornetto trilogy
There are a couple of jokes that run through all three of the Cornetto movies. I'll be curious to see if Jen catches them. Of the brom-coms that are out there, this is among my favorites.
Munted....yes means drunk. When shawn is on the bus and the person falls at the bus stop.... the tune that is playing is called zombie nation
We're coming to get you Barbara was an Easter Egg for the original Dawn of the Dead.
i just realised that when Shaun says " whats the matter David, never taken a shortcut before?" that he's referencing hot fuzz!
Considering how it seems Jen has only seen 10 movies before she met Holden I'd love to know what her top 10 comedies are.
The zoom ins are hilarious and very British especially the 80s black comedy era 😊
The music playing in the background when they’re talking about the plan to get mom and Liz is from the original Dawn of the Dead.
My favourite thing about this trilogy is that, no matter what your favourite movie is, i totally understand why you like it the most.
Theyre all thay damn good
Nice! Shaun of the dead has been my favorite movie since watching it in theatres in 2004.
I love this film, but the best part was hearing Jen do a British accent. Incredible.
Hot fuzz defo gets in my top ten. Bunch of my friends and colleagues quote it on the daily. Pure British culture
NO. It's not Ree-Cees, it's Reese's. Reese's and pieces rhyme. I'll die on this hill.
Hahahaha Jen just downin that cheese stick 🤣
You got Red on you!! 🩸🩸🖋️🖋️
Yes!!! The whole cornetto trilogy is amazing!!
Even though it’s not classified as part of the Cornetto saga, Paul is another funny movie with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, they just have such great chemistry together
Another show they are great in is Truth Seekers
I absolutly love this film, mate so many great actors in this and the cornetto series
I’ve probably watched this and Hot Fuzz at least 200 times since I was a kid. One of my favorite Simon Pegg and Nick Frost movies is actually Paul.
One of the funniest and craziest zombie comedy horror movies ever made!
So glad you're doing the cornetto trilogy, I didn't see The World's End on your schedule so I hope you guys watch it
3:30 I met and had my picture taken with Nick Frost a few years ago at Nottingham Em-Con in England. Nice guy.
This is one of my favorite zombie movies of all time. Its classic in its comedy and it doesn't lessen the horror of the living dead either. Edgar wright is one of the best.
Yes! One of my all time favorite movies along with Hot Fuzz. Great reaction! 💪
Love that you’ve watched this! Hot fuzz has to be next, it’s without a doubt the funniest movie ever made!
Yes absolutely yes! My all time favorite zombie film! I know every line in this movie and I’m so glad to see Jen and Holden react!
