And of course Olivia Coleman who is awesome is in so much to list here . Timothy Dalton is such a revelation in a comedy role he was hysterical .
I love how almost every line is either a setup or a payoff. I remember watching it like 10x, catching new little details each time. I love the cornetto trilogy like crazy. Controversial opinion, my favourite is up next
Former cop and huge fan of Simon Pegg so this was just great fun for me. I suspect that this movie committing multiple parodies on police films over the years that had Jen seen those prior to watching this, it may have set better with her. Then again, despite popular belief these days, not everything is for everybody. Love you guys!
Fun fact about the Cornetto trilogy (Shawn of the dead, hot fuzz and at worlds end): in all 3 films the 2nd half is repeating the 1st half, with some changes, but it's a brilliant way of story telling that I haven't seen anywhere else.
The grocery store owner was played by Timothy Dalton, who was the 5th actor to play James Bond, right after Roger Moore and right before Pierce Brosnan.
For me, my brother and a few people I know “Yarp” is part of our vocabulary now. Also. The football shirt that Nick Frost is wearing when he first meets Simon Pegg is a Bristol Rovers shirt. I’m from Bristol and that’s my Dad’s team I’ve been to a lot of games myself. Even saw them get promoted twice at Wembley in the playoffs.
The amount of little nods to the police service is so good. Sandford is actually the fictional town that several of the real police forces here in the uk use as the setting for all their exams and training scenarios and would in theory have the highest crime rate in the uk. Cake fines are real too and we even have a website that sets out the cake fine legislation.
13:00 .....The song played in the car is called "Romeo&Juliet", by british band Dire Straits...... A not so hidden clue about the "decaffeineited" actors.....
I love the callbacks like when the detectives say what go through the whole phone book starting with Aaron A anderson and he's the boy at the end held hostage. Small things very neat!
The only wholesome gaslighting I’ve ever seen is Holden encouraging the progress of the British accent. But I can also really tell there’s been a noticeable improvement (😉)
This film has so many great details but my favourite on is the way they signposted that Sergeant Turner are identical twins. One reads books by Ian Rankin and the other reads books by Ian M Rankin. Same author writing in different genres for the same actor playing different characters.
The guy who sent Simon's character out to the country and invited him back is Rufus Minister of Magic, that gave the trio items declared in Dumbledore's at beginning of Deathly Hollows.
I think this is my favourite of the cornetto trilogy, though it's a close race between Hot Fuzz and World's End for me, overall the three are an incredible watch, glad yall are having fun with these movies!
the amazing call taht he was one of the bonds and followed by holdens destructice "i dont think so" xDDD if i would ever have cut out a line from a reaction xD MATE !!! hes my favorite bond !
Don’t know if anyone’s mentioned it yet; but the Father Christmas that stabbed Nicholas, was Peter Jackson. Janine was Cait Blanchette, and “Filch” was also in the First Captain America movie.
The old man who was hosting the NWA meetings and was obsessed with the living statue was Edward Woodward, who was the original 'Equalizer' when it was a 1980s tv series. His character had the same name as Denzel Washington in the Equalizer movies, Robert McCall. He was married to a well-known British tv comedy actress until he died in 2009.
This is one of those movies my friends and I consider a perfect movie. The jokes, the editing, the pacing, the twists, all land for us. I still find new things with it as I watch it even now, 16 years after it came out. While watching your reaction here, I realized the the Chief Inspector in London (Bill Nighy) has the same thought process as Butterman (Jim Broadbent) in Sanford, that he can just make people disappear. However, in the end Nighy's character comes to get Nicholas, realizing he made a mistake before he went too far. Broadbent's character already went too far and just kept going, not learning from his own mistake.
With cameos, the Santa who stabbed him in the hand was LotR director Peter Jackson. His ex-girlfriend was Cate Blanchett (Galadriel). Lurch was The Hound in Game of Thrones. The police chief was Professor Slughorn in Harry Potter. Of course, Olivia Coleman who is in a lot of things, like The Crown. There’s also a bunch of other actors who are well known in the UK. The code for the evidence locker was 999, which is the UK emergency number, equivalent to 911 in the US. Oh, and the Cornetto colours that you see in each film is relevant to the theme. Red (strawberry) for blood in Shaun of the Dead. Blue (original) for police in Hot Fuzz. Green (mint) in the World’s End.
I actually lost count of how many times I just have it playing in the background... this year. It's just one of those movies for me. Right up there on the rewatch/listen count as the Austin Powers and Rush Hour trilogies.
Man, I love this movie! It's just so much fun! Fun fact, the ex girlfriend of simon pegg's character in the beginning is cate blanchett! Apparently the director thought it would be funny to have a generic looking character be someone super famous. lol. And just like Shawn of the Dead I love the quick editing of these movies. It's very unique and at times quite funny. It's also quite clever with the London chief inspector conversation being: "You can't just make people disappear" "Er, yes I can - I'm the Chief Inspector" Clever clever. Lots of foreshadowing.
It's an Edgar Wright film, it's only natural that the entire script is full of foreshadowing. Honestly, Hot Fuzz should be used as a case study in the conservation of detail in screenwriting, nearly everything in the film is either setting up a joke or an important plot point, or paying off said joke or plot point, it's genuinely brilliant
I love this movie most out of the Cornetto trilogy because after Shaun’s mom dies in Shaun of the Dead it’s a bit of a downer. But once Nicholas comes back to town it just ramps up soooooo much. The last 20 minutes of this movie is perfect.
Love that whole sequence of shots showing Nick travels on the metro then train, telling a lot of travel time in a very snappy set of shots. Rather than a single long shot of, for example, Nick staring out the window on the train as the city gives way to countryside or something. Fast, simple, entertaining.
I love Hot Fuzz. I remember seeing this one in the theater. Me and my cousin were laughing so hard through this one, and we quoted it for a long time. Love this one.
American here and I grew up in the 80s watching TV.Alot of those older British actors were big time in 80s like Timothy Dalton,Paul Freeman,Stuart Wilson,Edward Woodard...
An Edgar Wright film I know you'd love Jen is Baby Driver. If you haven't seen that movie yet, may be a good one to take a look at. Not a comedy really, more of a drama, thriller, romance, but really good and Jon Bernthal (The Punisher) is also in it
So happy you guys are watching these, I love Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, I don’t know if you are planning on it, but Cuban Fury is one that I think the both of you will enjoy a lot
Jen noticing the chief was Zidler from Moulin Rouge was quite funny since Baz Luhrmann directed that and he also directed Romeo + Juliet which they turned into a play to make fun of in this movie.
Been to Wells, Somerset where this was filmed and it literally feels like I was walking around a movie set…because I was. One of my favourite films of all time. Me and the missus watched it again while we were there.
I love how this movie is SO decisive...in a good way. Between the lo-key British humor, the not-so- obvious parody, and the (seemingly) ridiculous editing...this is a movie for fans of movies.
Michael the cartboy (yarp) was played by the Hound from Game of Thrones. One of the Detectives was played by Paddy Considine who plays thee king on House of the Dragon.
I'm with Jen...British humor is not my thing either but both my brothers love this and the Monty Python stuff ...I will admit that sometimes British humor do have their "moments " and when they do it's laugh out loud funny stuff.....
I loved the supporting cast in this film. One major one for me was David Threlfall as the actor/director as he was phenomenal in the 80's production of The Life and Times of Nicholas Nickleby as Smike. There's also the main heavy from Raiders of the Lost Ark as the priest/vicar, TV's The Equalizer, and the devilish nanny from the original The Omen for starters. Timothy Dalton is simply wonderful here as well. His "This really hurts. I'm going to need some ice cream" after his gruesome impalement was writer/director/actor perfect. This was an excellent, brilliant and tight script. I couldn't wait to see your reactions to it.
Two actors from Game of thrones were in this: Rory (The Hound) McCann who played Michael "Lurch" the trolley boy ("yarp") and David (Walder Frey) Bradley who played the farmer with the naval mine and all the guns. Part of the humour is that nothing exciting ever happens in those peaceful sleepy little English villages. I guess that is lost on most Americans, where there aren't really any such places.
Filmed in Somerset, but set in Gloucestershire, Broadbent's mock accent sounds Somerset, Frost sounds Bristolian (north Bristolian). Frost is also seen wearing a Bristol Rovers top. Great movie and parodies what cockneys think life west of Reading is like.
Filch was killed by Red Skull in first Captain America. Kudos to Jen for giving this a try. She has a library of British humor. Lots of British actors, Bilbo Baggins/Agent Ross in MCU, Stepdad in Shaun/Dead-Harry Potter Minister of Magic, James Bond/Badguy in Rocketeer. Hot Fuzz is my favorite Simon Pegg hero. Have Jen watch Warm Bodies for more zombie humor.
As a British person it’s so much more funny, I find myself quoting this film all the time. I come from a countryside town in Derbyshire and it’s good to see a famous film somewhere I recognise

One of my favourite movies of all time!
Michael ( YARP ) is played by Rory McCann who was the Hound from Game of Thrones , Arthur Webley is played by David Bradley from GOT who played the vile Walder Frey and also plays Abraham Setrakian in the Strain, DC Andy Wainwright is Paddy Considine who plays King Viserys from House of the Dragon and of course Tomothy Dalton is Simon Skinner who of course was Bond for 2 movies .
This movie actually holds the record for the shortest police chase in a movie with it only being about 5 seconds
One of my favorite movies of all time! The pinnacle of modern British humour.
the pinnacle is Monty Python
I'm British, 43 years and John Cleese in my opinion us the most unfunny person I've ever tried to watch

@@johnnyskinwalker4095 wait do you think Monty Python is “modern British humour”?
Until you’ve watched Hot Fuzz at least 4 times, Shaun Of The Dead will always be everyone’s favourite of the Cornetto Trilogy 😎
I’ve seen them all at least half a dozen times each, and ‘Shaun of the Dead’ is still my favorite one.
Hot Fuzz rules!!!!!!!! Was pleasantly surprised the first time I saw it! Love the Brit humour!
The only wholesome gaslighting I’ve ever seen is Holden encouraging the progress of the British accent. But I can also really tell there’s been a noticeable improvement (😉)
Jenn reminds me so much of my Mrs 😂... I could tell she wasn't feeling this but she sat through it like a trooper 😂
This film has so many great details but my favourite on is the way they signposted that Sergeant Turner are identical twins.
One reads books by Ian Rankin and the other reads books by Ian M Rankin.
Same author writing in different genres for the same actor playing different characters.
ok nahh am lost on how she likes Shawn of the dead more😭😭Hot fuzz just so funny and better and so rewatchable.
3:32 Yes... That was Peter Jackson, Director of Lord of the Rings Trilogy, stabbing Simon Pegg with a knife dressed as Father Christmas 😂😂
the amazing call taht he was one of the bonds and followed by holdens destructice "i dont think so" xDDD if i would ever have cut out a line from a reaction xD MATE !!! hes my favorite bond !
Don’t know if anyone’s mentioned it yet; but the Father Christmas that stabbed Nicholas, was Peter Jackson. Janine was Cait Blanchette, and “Filch” was also in the First Captain America movie.
Love the whole series, but Hot Fuzz is the absolute standout. My favourite!
I love this film, very surprised with Jens view on the movie thought it would have been great for her after Shaun of the Dead.
Yes Timmothy Dalton was before Brosnan. Shame he wasn't used in more films because he was really good
I actually lost count of how many times I just have it playing in the background...
It's also quite clever with the London chief inspector conversation being:
"You can't just make people disappear"
"Er, yes I can - I'm the Chief Inspector"
Clever clever. Lots of foreshadowing.
Dont forget Peter Jackson was Santa and Edgar Wright was the bored shop assistant
@@christianwise637 It's a screenwriting, editing and directing masterclass. Perfection.
Fun fact, Janine was played by Cate Blanchett.
I love Holden saying comment for a billion times in 34 minutes video 😂
You cannot believe how much how I appreciate her Hoodie 😍
American here and I grew up in the 80s watching TV.Alot of those older British actors were big time in 80s like Timothy Dalton,Paul Freeman,Stuart Wilson,Edward Woodard...
Easily a top 3 movie of mine, one of the most rewatchable out there
An Edgar Wright film I know you'd love Jen is Baby Driver. If you haven't seen that movie yet, may be a good one to take a look at. Not a comedy really, more of a drama, thriller, romance, but really good and Jon Bernthal (The Punisher) is also in it
Not many people know this but Janine is played by Cate Blanchett.. one of our great kept secrets 😄
So happy you guys are watching these, I love Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, I don’t know if you are planning on it, but Cuban Fury is one that I think the both of you will enjoy a lot
My favorite of the Cornetto trilogy. I worked at the cinema when this came out, loved the trailer coming up all the time.
We all laughing with Holden and Jenn is there like - 😐
Jen noticing the chief was Zidler from Moulin Rouge was quite funny since Baz Luhrmann directed that and he also directed Romeo + Juliet which they turned into a play to make fun of in this movie.
Shawn Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz are 2 of my favourite comedies ... I love that the "yarp" guy is also The Hound from Game Of Thrones
Been to Wells, Somerset where this was filmed and it literally feels like I was walking around a movie set…because I was.
One of my favourite films of all time. Me and the missus watched it again while we were there.
Why do I love that Jen knows Movies that other actors are in Dalton was just one of them !!!!!!
One of my favorite films...maybe because I used to work with the police. "PAUL" is another good film with Simon Peg, lots of special quest stars.
If your lass tells me she laughs at Adam Sandler movies then i fear for your future together. 😂
I'm hoping that Absolutely Anything is another movie Jen will get to watch!
Omgosh I've never realised that Danny's dad was zidler in moulin rouge! Thanks Jen! 😁
A like solely for the use of the subscribe graphics when the statue fell on the guy's head. A call to action done in a playful, funny way... loved it!
Been watching all the videos on your channel for a long time now and I’m so glad you’ve done this film !
The fence bit "shortcut" is hilarious. In Shaun of the Dead he does the same thing but falls.
those screen transitions are the gold standard. I love edgar wright
you got creative with censoring to not get age restricted ... i like it
Filch was killed by Red Skull in first Captain America.
It's refreshing to see a reactor admit to not liking a movie. It's exceedingly rare.
As a British person it’s so much more funny, I find myself quoting this film all the time. I come from a countryside town in Derbyshire and it’s good to see a famous film somewhere I recognise
