Panasonic Lumix Cameras Wi-Fi Capture and File Xfer to Windows 10/11 PC's

  • When Microsoft change the way file sharing was implemented in Windows 10/11 it became a bit of a nightmare to set up network file sharing. Add to that the fact that users cannot input spaces in user names on Lumix cameras you need to add a user without any spaces.
    This video shows the extensive walkthrough of setting up both file transfer and tethered capture via Wi-Fi to a Windows 10 PC.
    I'm sure that there must be a quicker way but I haven't discovered it yet maintaining network security etc.

    Thank you Graham. What an unbelievable mess. I would never have managed to get this working without your help. Panasonic should have a link to your video on their instructions, which I found quite useless. Best wishes, Steve.

    Well done Graham, I really do thank you for your explanation and teach-in. What an unbelievable faff in 2022 for the simple transferring via WiFi of images to a PC! I have both Panasonic and Canon kit, Canon is an absolute simplicity to transfer files, Panasonic is a complete pain. I admire your resiliance and patience in going through this complex of instructions. I cannot believe that I am the only user who will in the future continue hard wiring for image transfer.

    Graham - fantastic. I was really struggling with my new LX15 in getting my head round the Lumix's WiFi connection methodology, not helped by the fact that the manual made it seem even more complex! Your video however, made the rather convoluted methodology seem so straighforward. I would never have sussed it out otherwise. Thanks.

    Your video is really good. Thank you for taking the time to make this and present it so clearly.
    From a usability standpoint, I was hoping for it to be a convenient alternative to transferring by card or SSD drive to save me all the plugging in and out. Instead, it transfers so slowly that it will never be viable. I'm often transferring tens of GBs from an SSD drive mounted on the camera. Plugging the camera-mounted SSD directly into my PC transfers around 350MBps. In contrast, this was going to take 50 minutes for 7 video files totaling 10GB (3.33MBps, which is worse than 100x slower).
    I don't understand it. My PC wifi can handle 2.5Gbps. I suppose it's a camera limitation.

      It was far simpler in previous windows versions. Microsoft have changed the whole permissions and ownership of files and made it a little more complex. Thanks for your comment.

    Graham: THANK YOU! Your channel was the only one that helped me when I trying to figure out the damn Lumix software. One question I do have, though, is when I'm doing transfers of files, is there a way to add all of the photos in my camera to be transferred. When I do MultiSelect to transfer, I have to tap each one singularly. Seems like being able to just select all would be an option, but...??

    One thing I could not find anywhere: is there an option to "Select All" and transfer to pc insted of choosing them one by one? if you come back from a 2 weeks trip and took let's say a 100 pictures, that would not be an easy task to mark all of them one by one...

    Thank for all your work, but sadly it does not seem to work with my FZ300. The camera does not show up in the available networks. I just keep swapping the SD card. Panasonic should find less complex way to connect to het wifi network or directly to a pc. Connecting to my phone or tablet works fine, but connecting to my PC either direct of via the network fails.

    Super Graham. Very clear instruction. I'm temped to try again, after failing for over 2 years!!!! Thank you for spending so much time on this. Any reason you created a new PC user other than for a simple short name with no spaces? Could you not have just renamed or used your main user account?

    Windows 11 is a real pain. I could not get my FZ1000ii to connect, even following the steps given. However, it worked just fine on my Windows 10 computer. And, I'm a bit of a computer geek. You may also need to first enable SMB1 file sharing in additional features, disable IPv6 on your wifi card, and possibly downgrade network encryption from 128 bits to 40/56 bits. One can find how either through google or here on youtube. Yes, some of this is fairly geeky.

    Excellent Graham, something to do on a rainy day! A silly question if you have a number of Lumix cameras can you use the wifi setup in each camera and save it as a favourite in each camera, hope this is clear?

    • @GrahamHoughton12
      @GrahamHoughton12  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly right, it is the camera which is setting up the hot spot and necessary log in parameters. The PC just has the file sharing to do.

    Hi Graham, still struggling with getting the wireless connection from the LX100 M2 to my PC. I've created a shared folder on the 'D' drive to receive photos from the camera. My PC 'sees' the camera and has connected to it but the camera won't connect to that shared folder on my PC. Is the 'D' drive the problem? Does the receiving shared folder have to reside on the PC's 'C' drive? Hopefully this is the last piece of the puzzle. Thank you for this great video, it was a big help to me.

    Your videos are so great - I'm a new camera user and have an FZ80 that I'm enjoying playing with. I named my "user" to share my folder with as "FZ80 Camera" instead of "lumix" like you did. I'm having an issue because I can't put a space in using the keys on the camera to input my username. Can I delete this user and create a new one?

    Thank you so much Graham!! Very useful tutorial! There is a way to use FZ80-82 as a webcam in PC?

    • @GrahamHoughton12
      @GrahamHoughton12  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is something that really needs "advertising" more. The FZ80/82 does not have the ability to output either video over HDMI or through the USB port - contrary to what a lot of other reviews state. There is only one Windows PC program which allows wi-fi connection and display of the video however it is very poor quality. I must do a video on this to clear up the confusion.

    18;50; i choose 'connection from history'. Then it instantly connects without being able to change the username?! I got the question; 'disconnect?'Another thing is; I don't understand when I have to connect with the camera hotspot and when to connect with my regular wifi. Still I manage to create a connection, made a folder for the import of my pictures. Thanks a lot!

    Hi Graham, at minute 14.22 you hit “exit” and it takes you to a list with an option to add this current connection to favourites. My device just turns back into picture taking mode and doesn’t give me this option. Then when I go back into wifi>select a destination from history, it only gives me my previous iPhone option, not the PC. Is there something else I can do? So tedious to reconnect each time, thanks

    Hi Graham - excellent instructional video as ever but my attempts have been failing. Camera connects to wifi ok, get to "sending image 1/1 - 24 secs" Then says please wait - 2 mins later still says please wait. What's worse is when I turn camera off it still says please wait and wifi still connected - had to remove battery in the end. I'm sure settings are fine as followed instructions meticulously. Any ideas? (Also zoom button fix video was a life saver 😁)

    I have a Lumix DMC-FT30 cameraIt seems it is a discontinued model. It connects to my laptop with a USB cable. A few weeks ago I had no problem transferring photographs from my (digital) camera to my laptop. Now I can't and it seems that something is blocking my camera's access to the laptop.. So what has stuffed up my use of a perfectly good camera and perfectly good laptop which has the misfortune to run WIN10 and keeps getting automatic updates from Microsoft.

    I follow all the steps but then, before the files can be sent, a message shows: connection failed

    I don't have an USB cable neither do I have an adapter 😐
    I'm happy I have this camera, but the send settings could be a lot more user friendly😨
