    PLEASE NOTE: You will have to get the ECU flashed at an approved Honda dealership alongside replacing the restricted air trumpets in order to get the full unrestricted power. I was able to get this done for only an hour's labour at my local dealership.

    • @motorheadxi
      @motorheadxi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What was the implications of this on your insurance mate? Did you have to do redo rego and inform insurance company as well?

    • @1StefenM
      @1StefenM 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the video. Do you think you could simply dremmel the old trumpets? Is the depth that big of a deal? The cost is about $160 for new trumpets... seems a lot for some shorter plastic.

    • @kungfusing1
      @kungfusing1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@motorheadxi that depends on what state/country you live in, what insurance company you are using and what honda dealership you are dealing with. When you sign up for insurance they ask questions like "is your motorcycle modified" which in this case it would be, it then comes down to the insurance company and the particualr policy if that is an issue. If the engine developed an issue and Honda was aware it was modified you can be certain the warranty would be void. Technically it is no longer a LAMS bike after the modification in Australia also as it is a power modification. Having said all that if you were sensible with the modification (i.e dont put a loud exhaust on it) then the average officer isnt going to know or care and its a Honda so the engine is probably going to be fine as long as it is correctly tuned afterwards as he mentions.

    • @Alex_Hetherington
      @Alex_Hetherington ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1StefenM You'll still need to tell the Engine Control Unit (ECU) that there is a change in air flow otherwise it wont know what to do with all the excess air going in the bike and probably cause major problems

    • @baranUtube
      @baranUtube 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Alex_Hetherington So a brand new bike with new technology cant adjust AFR? I find that hard to believe, I'm sure you'll be fine running air filter and exhaust and get a tune whenever you'd like. I'm almost sure the in 2023 newer ecu can adjust fuel and not just blow the engine up. I'm not saying you don't need a tune, you certainly will need a tune if you want full power out of the mods but you don't "need" it.

It is quite easy to install, but honestly do not expect any significant gain if you do not also replace your stock exhaust or at least the silencer and this is valid for any bike. Otherwise, KN, BMC and DNA have equivalent performance and you can keep them for life on your bike. Just watch the price on ebay, it may vary from one merchant to another. I got my KN for 65 euros delivery included.

    Awesome video and extremely well explained! One question I’m hoping you can answer is when you change the 4 trumpets (to de-restrict it) do you need to have the ECU flashed to adjust for the full amount of air flow into each cylinder or will the ECU make its own adjustment to produce the claimed 94 hp? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. This includes anyone who has done the same. 👍😎

    • @izzy8609
      @izzy8609 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since you're changing the flow rate on the exhaust and effectively letting the bike breathe more, it would be strongly advised to flash it so it wouldn't run lean. Almost as if you're doing a full system.

      Glad you're enjoying it! I assume your CB650R is A2 restricted (EU Regulations; 47hp/35kW and maximum 0.2kW/kg), and so derestricted to full power, you would expect to see 94hp at the crank; 80ish hp at the wheels. You'd also see a 0-60 time improvement from approximately 5.5/6 seconds to about 3.2 seconds, and a top speed change from about 100mph to 140mph (or there abouts). Hope this helps!

  • @jameslast3192
    @jameslast3192 ปีที่แล้ว

    You definitely need to flash the cpu too but in NZ and Australia this bike technically is now illegal. You have to get it Re vin’d as modified if you want to be fully legal and to be insured. Now you could just keep quiet but in the unlikely event of a crash into a expensive car there’s a possibility they will check the cpu and air intakes and void your insurance but I doubt it. Seeing as it effectively doubles the horsepower so saves you buying a whole new bike I can see why you’d do it. Also if you love the styling as much as I do 😮then you’d have to jump from the lams A2 650r to the 1000r which is a big jump. It’s a shame Honda don’t have a “special service “ to do this for you when you get a full licence, or have a buy back scheme where they replace the bike for a non restricted 650r, at a cost of course! They are missing a trick there. They make the things anyway. Seeing as Honda is seen as a more sensible, company building reliable bikes you’d imagine that their customers would be too and would pay the probably rip off amount to upgrade the bike. Or just do it in your garage and be illegal I guess. There’s a company in Auckland here that you post in your cpu and your intakes, give them $750 and they dremel the intakes and flash the drive and post it back. Seems like a bit of a rip off just to flash the drive!

    Hey, I hope you can help me. You stated, that you would need to go to a Honda dealer to flash the ECU if you have installed the trumpets for the restricted version. Now my question is: can the dealer just flash the ECU or does he need a Micro Controlled Restriction module that would cost another 200€. I could buy a bile that the seller bought restricted so he already has the restricted trumpets. I would only need to install them.

    Great walkthrough. Bit of a noob question but how much fuel did you have when you performed that tank removal? Had you run it down entirely or just on the final bar but tipped to the back?

    • @RAFHonda
      @RAFHonda  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I had it on the final bar, but regardless of how much fuel you have in the tank, there won't be too much fuel spillage out of the pipe. I don't think it's that crucial, but it may make it easier to handle when you're removing and fitting it!

    • @donkeytronkilla
      @donkeytronkilla 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RAFHonda so the pipe just has some excess fuel that was on its way to be burned but does not flow freely from the tank out of this pipe? Maybe it only opens the pipe when the bike is on and the throttle is open?

    • @RAFHonda
      @RAFHonda  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@donkeytronkilla That's correct. There's a valve that's only open when the green 90 degree connector is plugged in, meaning you can't drain all the fuel whilst it's unplugged.

    Very nice job, I wish you did a PAIR remove tutorial. The A2 restriction is a UK thing? US models got these too?

    • @RAFHonda
      @RAFHonda  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many thanks, I'll have a look into the PAIR removal, I haven't done it myself but I should be able to record a video on it. As far as I know, the A2 restriction is European only and the LAMS restriction is for all bikes sold in Australia. I think the US models are sold as full power from the dealer. I may be wrong!

      @Knakkerman- 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is done in a lot of european countries (probably in more countries across the world)

      Please yes do the PAIR delete if you can, this is the mod I am trying to do now but I am worried as I am new to tinkering on my motorcycle and would hate to mess anything up on my beloved CB

    Where you have bought the original snorkel?

    Hello, to remove the intake restriction is necessary to change the ecu map? Or just changing that piece i'ts enough. Thank you!

      You still need change a software

  • @KuswordChannel
    @KuswordChannel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can you ride it like that just fine without remapping the ECU? Does it compensate on increased airflow? I bought one with intake restrictors cut out.

    • @RAFHonda
      @RAFHonda  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need to get the ECU remapped, otherwise the bike will notice the increased airflow and put the bike into a rev-limiting mode where you can't go above 6,000 RPM. If you sweet-talk someone at a Honda dealership, you can usually get this done for an hour's labour.

    Does every CB650R have this 12V socket under the seat? And when does it give power: on ignition or always?

    • @RAFHonda
      @RAFHonda  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does not come stock with the bike but you can get an official Honda one for it! It provides power on ignition only. Hope this helps :)

      It looks like quite a straight forward job. I’ve got the Matt blue bike and am looking at getting it protected with PPF film. With this video I am tempted to just take the tank off and take that to them rather than the whole bike.

    • @RAFHonda
      @RAFHonda  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@migsteele Yes, I'd take just the tank for sure. Just remember to ride the bike until it's low on fuel; the garage will thank you!

    • @RAFHonda
      @RAFHonda  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Steele Ah yeah forgot about the whole lockdown thing, maybe 5 ‘essential’ trips to the shops and back that are 15 miles away?! Or you could siphon the tank, there’s no real anti-siphon protection for this bike apart from the tank lock
