Derestricted my bike at its first service with a custom tune for my Akro and dna air filter. done 50k on tune and it’s not missed a beat. Will do 115kph in first.
Restriction is for A2 licence (35kW). If you just swap intake “trompets”, it does not changes anything, restricted software remains. ECU flashing required also
All countries & states have different rules regarding what makes a bike legal etc. But these mods definitely do make the bike more powerful without an ecu tune. 👍
You said doing this would make it blow up. Is that right or do you need have to also get it tuned because of the changes? Can you leave it without the tune.?
You need to have the ECU remapped to release full engine performance. I doubt this made a big difference as fully unrestricting a CB650 will DOUBLE its power output.
Why to lean?! The amount of air admitted to the engine remains the same 650cc per revolution! With or without restriction, the chambers' total volume will be fully filled with air!
@@mitchdoescoffee th-cam.com/video/1V04SKdudbw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NCnXduMK2lM0vRRP I'm pretty sure this guy is selling the same stacks in his ecu flash package. let me know what you think?
That's OK. In Australia and many other places, these bikes are power restricted for safety reasons to suit new riders. Once you remove these restrictions, the bike has alot more capabilities for power.
I don't think Honda has enough "street cred" to warrant that option just yet... The MT07/R7 platform has been around so long that it is known as the superior option. It's also a very different configuration of bike... the MT/R7 is a very torque focussed engine. So even derestricted is makes alot less power than the Honda.
@@mitchdoescoffee Honda Motorcycles lack “street cred”? First time I’ve ever heard that. The swap that you did in this video and an ECU flash (and you need to flash the ECU) is all that is required to bring the CB650R/CBR650R back up from a gimped 50HP to 94HP. Mentioning Yamaha had nothing to do with torque vs HP, it was the fact that Yamaha Australia will sell you a LAMS compliant version or an unrestricted version of the same model bike from new. Honda Australia can’t be bothered.
@aja8590 I mean this particular bike... the MT07 is by far the most popular fun Lams bike in Aus. Intake tubes, air filter, tune & you will also need an exhaust of some sort to get close to that magic 100hp
I would buy an CB650R over an MT07 if they were both offered as full power versions. Looks better, buttery smooth inline 4, better suspension and brakes. It’s a no brainer for me. I have wanted a CB650R since they were released in 2018 but Honda AUS/NZ won’t give it to us as a full power model. I’ve emailed them multiple times about it. They’re missing out on sales because I won’t ride a modified LAMS bike. If you crash into an expensive car your insurance will be invalid.
With the way it snakes up to the filter l and the fact that the air performs a 180° turn between the filter and the trumpets, to my mind, probably prevents quite a bit of FOD. (Spitfires had a tropical filter that worked in a similar way)
Hey mate. Thanks for reaching out. I've done some research & I really can't find anything that confirms or denies this. I would recommend popping the air filter out and having a quick look. 👍
@@mitchdoescoffee When I buy it, does it only come with two air inlets or does it come with 4 air inlets? And electronics, can you buy a control unit already reprogrammed for original full power?
bloke at the bike shop told me it was just straight up illegal, and it would void your rego and stuff - if you did do it and they found that you had de-restricted it would they report it? is it even worth it? just because LAMS bikes are just able to be sold for way more so your resale would drop like a stone just for a bit of power?
Technically an exhaust makes a lams bike not lams. It is what it is lol. Only an issue if you have full comp and they look into your bike if you have a big stack
Man I can’t get over how much those intakes are restricted! But it makes sense now why a 650cc in-line 4 makes so little power from factory
I agree. I didn't expect so much restriction, but it's a good sign to see how much potential this thing has.

You can ride it without tuning it, but it could cause some engine damage without a tune & it won't make full power.

2021 CBR 650 R here, exact same process in EU beside it is also electronically restricted, needs ECU Flashing.
Yes definitely. 🙏
Awesome work guys 😮
Thank you 🙏
Do you need to drain the tank before removing it? Or can you just take it off with the fuel still being inside?
Nope, the quick fitting will seal itself. You will drip a little bit, so have a cloth underneath & it will be OK.
@@mitchdoescoffee alright, thanks!
You can post your ecu to Dynobike in Melbourne. They will flash it with full power version and post it back. Costs about $500
I'm not a huge fan of bench tunes. Yes, it's better than nothing... but a detonating engine costs alot more than a custom tune. 😅
Is the air filter nessecery?or does the lams and full powered version use the same filter?
It's not going to be 100% necessary, but I would always recommend a better flowing filter.

For sure. It wasn't happy 😅
Why to lean?! The amount of air admitted to the engine remains the same 650cc per revolution! With or without restriction, the chambers' total volume will be fully filled with air!
@CRBN74 Adding more air without adding more fuel = lean.
That's the point, you don't get more air in. Engine will breath better, but you will always get the same air volume, the same 650cc per revolution.
@@CRBN74 push 1l of air through a small hose... it will take longer than 1l of air through a large hose. 👍
With restricted bikes like these shouldn't you get a dyno guy to retune the ECU because now it'll be running super lean?
Sure do. 👌
How much torque we gonna get after dyno run in Nm ???
I'm not too sure to be honest... it will depend alot on the tuner, your gearing & what sort of riding style you want.
where can i buy these trumpet stacks? link please

No engine light yet, but it definitely would have caused some issues if we kept riding it without a tune.
I apologize for ignorance, but these derestrictions in practice what improvements do they make?

Does my head in that Honda Australia doesn’t just offer unrestricted versions of the CB650R and CBR650R. Yamaha does with the R7.

No, this is the main restriction to lower the HP. The 95hp version is already done. 👍

@@mitchdoescoffee Yes of course 😁 Thank you!
Have you flashed it yet/ taken it to dyno
No, not yet... the owner is potentially doing some other upgrades before spending the money on a tune.
Hi, did you change map on the bike?
The owner ended up changing the parts back & selling it before it had been tuned, but if you do this mod I would highly recommend getting it tuned.
does it need a changing mapping too for get original full power?
Yes. You MUST remap to get power & make sure you don't damage you engine.
Did any engine light pop up?
No. But it definitely wasn't happy & would cause some engine damage if it was left untuned.
Can you get the exact ECU files online ? If I were to take into a shop and provide the files myself
