    Had a home invasion in 2011. Met the guy in the kitchen after he climbed through my window. Turned the lights on, pointed my pistol at him, he put his hands up and then jumped back thru the window and ran down the street (took my screen with him). I then called the cops to make a report. Crime stopped without firing a shot and no legal ramifications. Just having a gun means something. 👍

    Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.

    Penetration is a weird science. Following a British Army test in the 1950's it was discovered that a standard Nato sandbag will stop a 308 (7.62) moving at 2,840 fps at 30 yards yet a 124 grn 9mm moving at 950 fps will pass right through it and kill whoever is sitting behind it. It all comes down to energy dissipation. It is not as simple as everybody thinks.

An errant D.A. is going to potentially present that as premeditation - as you just looking and waiting for the opportunity to shoot somebody. That $10 sign could cost you hundreds of thousands times more in legal fees and/or future wages - besides advertising that you have guns.

      As we've seen there are literal commie judges and DA's who've infiltrated our legal system. The last thing you want to do is to give them an inch. And think about this, jury selection is based on voter registration. I'm not a Democrat but I've been summoned for jury duty. Have I ever actually been SELECTED for jury duty? Not once. They know my political leanings and chose not to select me. Don't expect a bunch of conservatives to sit in on your jury trial if it comes to that. They probably won't be there.

      If you miss your first shot with a shot gun or multiple people have a gun then they are going to put rounds on you and you will have to pump your shot gun in a extremely intense situation then put in a follow up round where as with a semi auto rifle you can immediately put on follow up shots on the same target or another target if there are multiple people. With a rifle you can handle most any situation where as if you have to rechamber a shell every shot you will be at a disadvantage if there are multiple people with guns or you don’t hit a fatal shot on the first shot.

    When I took the Combat Carbine course with my police department (requisite course for being authorized to carry one in the vehicle on duty) , the instructors showed us FBI ballistics tests for several types of rounds through various types of walls in homes. One thing that got my attention was that once a hollow point goes through a gypsum or wooden wall, the "cup" of the hollow point is filled with wall material and then the round acts like ball ammunition from that point on for pistols. It never occurred to me that would happen to hollow-point pistol rounds . The shotgun slug had the deepest penetration of any round in a typical home with interior walls, more than rifle or pistol due to the kinetic energy of the round (KE = 0.5 x mass of projectile x velocity squared). The slug was not the recommended round within a home. I completely agree with your assessment of the pistol being the best home-defense weapon. Even a DA revolver like the S&W Model 66 using .38+P is simple, no safety, just point and shoot.

Also I absolutely do not like red dots in a self defense situation I think it's TERRIBLE advice. You need to keep it simple and reliable. That's why for my family members I only keep 38 special six shooter. No safety, no red dot, just point and click. For me I like a semi-auto 12 gauge for home defense, but family members don't know how to operate it. A 38 special with no safety like a pencil barrel S&W or a ruger security six is perfect.

    The point you missed about the shotgun is the flexibility of the ammo you can put in it. A 12 gauge can take a wide variety of loads from 2 3/4” #8 birdshot to your 3” 00 buck or a slug. Plus, you have a choice of the gauge of the gun that can reduce weight and recoil.

    Great video and advice. A SMG type firearm is small, light, easy to maneuver and room clear with, and 9mm doesn't over penetrate too much. Training is critical as well... probably more so than whatever weapons someone selects.

    I really enjoyed your "how to set up an AR" video. This "the best gun for home defense" video calls forth some qualifications. First, this type of test has been run many times by many skilled experienced professionals over the last (?) 10 years. Most/many have concluded that M193 55 grain penetrates walls less than 9mm hollow point. Second, I agree about the shotgun conclusion. However, an M1014 (Benelli M4) with an EO on top and FlyteWad #1 buck might be fine at ranges less than 10 meters. Third, my own preference is for a 14.5 inch flash-suppressor-welded barrel in 300 BLK shooting (choices...) 190 or 205 subsonic hollow points. It's just a bit more than a 45ACP in power, but is much quieter even without a suppressor. Fourth (laugh), but serious: A home defender better be very sure he/she isn't committing a crime during the defense, including drug possession. A not-so-well-known Fed statute throws a mandatory 30 year sentence onto a crime during which a suppressor happened to be involved, even if no shot was fired through the thing. There, sorry, I'm finished. I do enjoy your vids.

    My only qualms with the AR test is the grain weight. 77gr is excellent but most of us have 55gr FMJ. I think the penetration would be lessened and fragmentation would increase. But this is my paltry experience. I'm curious what Shawn would say.

    • @chesslover8829
      @chesslover8829 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Use the 55 grain. Mike of Garand Thumb likes Wolf Gold and American Eagle. The 55 grain will work great in close quarters combat, regardless of barrel length or twist rate. The M855 Green Tip works better at 150 to 300 yards, and if you have to shoot through foliage. The Green Tip doesn't work so great if your attacker is really skinny with not much body mass. In that case, the Green Tip punches only a small hole through the target, unless the bullet hits a bone. The 77 grain Black Hills ammo is great, but is now going for $1.50 a round. Underwood makes a 62-grain FMJ cartridge, called the Lehigh Controlled Chaos, but it also sells for $1.50 a round. Honestly, I did not find this video very useful.

      55gr vs 77 there is a difference, but they both will penatrate quite a bit. I wouldnt get too caught up on the difference. Now 223 vs 9mm. There will be a bigger difference for sure.

    I support all three options. They all have options that reduce penetration. Even the AR has solid copper rounds that don't penetrate deep. But keep in mind less penetration can also be a issue. One thing for sure the shot gun is by far the most likely one shot stop option. The AR or 9mm pistol will give a higher capacity. Because most people miss under pressure
