Uhh, just so you know front sight focus is essentially out the window. With RDS's becoming way more popular target acquisition is more important, as is shooting with both eyes open. I was taught to shoot in the Marines so I understand the importance of it but really, with a proper shooting stance, most high level shooters at this point aren't even acquiring their sights anymore.
@@drm3259 I'm struggling with the 'both eyes open' technique, was at the range yesterday and tried it and I couldn't wrap my head around it at all. All I see is double vision, double vision of my gun / my gun's sights, and double vision of my target... If i just focus on the target, then I have no control of my gun, if it's even pointing anywhere near where I'm trying to hit. I ran through a few clips, and it was a total mess (I'm shooting a handgun, iron SIG 3-dot tritium sights, standing with no support, at 4inch targets at 10 yards/30 feet) .... any suggestions?
@@nyanity Red Dot Sight. If you look with both eyes open your dominant eye will naturally acquire the red dot but you'll have a much wider field of view. There's absolutely no point in closing one eye unless you want to see a lot less.
I was a range-master for 20 years and way always instructed to look at the front sight. In training it was always screamed "front sight, front sight" but no one ever explained how to focus only on the sight and everything else would cease to move. Spot-on! Thanks Chris. I just really can’t understand. Do you aiming with one eye closed? Because of non, and focusing on front sight, then target is visually doubled for left and right eye! I just can’t tell what copy is true. On the opposite, if I focus on the target with both eyes open, then pistol is double but I CAN what copy is true
I'm trying to grow up and learn this in real life - not just video games. This really helped. These nuggets of knowledge tested by space and time are truly what is needed. Great instructions from such a great master.
@@vlenkov38 I hear, even in archery, two-eyed shooting is for fast and flexible shots whereas one-eyed is for concentrating and hitting a stationary target further down. Lars Anderson, master war archer, proved this in his research of resurrecting war archery. You should check it out.
tax dollars lol, in your life to this point you may have paid a dollar for the service of one man. Yet those that talk about tax dollars rarely do anything to serve back to the community or country they claim to support so hard and true. 95% of serving military joins from the lower middle class or poor and get out maybe in better shape financially but then when issues arise from service or adjustment to rejoining the strange world from professional killing which is what the service becomes for many in front line and supporting ground force specialties like combat engineers, transport, combat medics, even fuel tanker drivers saw intense combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, many MOS division personnel basically that may not do well sitting in a cubicle and feeling like they can exist in this way, and yet it seems that many people are less inclined to want to support the tax dollars for after care of my buddies, should they need long term medical and mental health care. It's not a front end only scenario.

Hello Chris, I'm a new gun owner at 64 years old. I research anything that I do that is of importance and I have watched many hours of TH-cam on the topic of Handguns. This video is hands down and head and shoulders, yes a double metaphor, the most practical outstanding TH-cam advice I've received. My marksmanship improved significantly immediately and I'm firmly on the path to even greater competency. It so much fun to poke holes in paper and I am greatful for the confidence it gives me in defending my home. Thank you.
Bruce, I'm 65 and have been shooting for 1 1/2 years. I read near 30 books on handgun handling, shooting and self defense, and I'm having a great time learning and shooting. I thought of doing this very thing some time ago, but didn't try it. Now I'm convinced to do it and see if it works well for me. Learn, shoot, have fun!
On first picture the "mark " ended up having a blue line in middle of it,the 2nd picture i tried multiple times and the pink dots didnt disappear .. i need help i have a test for my job in 6 weeks

Just seeing this. Been shooting for over 30 years, and as we (I) get older, we fall into bad habits. We also cannot just rely on young eyes, etc. My concentration and sight are not what they used to be and thus, accuracy wanes. This is awesome. Totally gets you back in the zone. Thanks!!
Trigger finger placement, grip, and this video have helped my shooting immensely. Changing those 3 things made shooting an entirely different experience. My M&P sight has 3 white circles you line up. Helps intense focus. Lining up my thumb with my index finger on the slide saved my grip. I have curved fingertips and the best advice I got for pulling the trigger was from this dude; do what feels best. I'm a significantly better shooter letting my fingers work naturally and my sight picture has improved. Thanks so much, my dude.

I wanted to go for executive protection since my background is armed security and firearms instructor. How did it go for you? I was under the impression that you had to have a lot of experience to be considered for the position.
First, he said he just starting training for executive protection, not that he was about done training. Second, the training never stops. I've gone to many shooting courses and have learned something from all of them. Also, executive protection is complex and firearms experience/knowledge is a very small part of what the profession is about if protecting in first world countries. Most people are surprised when they find out how frequently protection agents are not armed on assignment with a principal.
I'm very very impressed with this video. I watched this video before I went on the shooting range for the first time and everyone thought it wasn't my first time because of how accurate and precise I shot those pistols just using this training. I am not kidding!! Thank you very much!! I learned a lot.
I took personal training from an instructor who told me to focus on the target. My shots were scattered. When I started focusing on the front sight, not looking, my shot groups are tight, and I'm talking about a big hole in the middle of the target, whether it's the head or center mass. The techniques Chris teaches work. Be patient, try them and you will become a better shooter.

The Army taught us, rear sight is blurry, target is blurry, front sight is crystal clear. Simple! Great video! If you try this and have trouble, just practice, you have to train your eyes to focus on that front post. Practice practice practice!
Wow! I just learned that I have not been focusing on anything at all. I thought I was focusing on the front sight but learned that while doing so I could still see two sight posts in my vision. After truly focusing on the front sight I only saw one.
All the times I was "told" to focus on the front sight and even finding success in shooting sports, I felt like my skill would plateau and THIS brings a whole new level to focus! Awesome.
I'm a new shooter too. I've taken 2 group classes and 2 private in last 4 months using rental guns and last one class, the instructor asked me if I was looking thru the site. It was speed shooting and truthfully, I had no idea whether I was or not. You just taught me more in this video than all the classes. Many thanks to you! Can't wait to see more. Learned this at Gunsite Raven in Arizona with Jeff Cooper. Target acquisition, front site, slow mash to the rear on the trigger. Practice practice practice. Dryfire first. I also worked on getting the same grip each time I drew from my holster. ALL guns are always loaded. Never point or aim at something your not ready to destroy. I like how you said make your front site even smaller to better focus on your entry point. 👍
I've never shot a gun in my life today was my first day in the range with my wife and i watched this video the week before and i was in the zone!!!! Focusing helped me so much i missed couple shots but my sights were clear while everything around me slowed down and got easy i really appreciate you man
As my front-sight focus improves, so do my accuracy and my consistency. I am 69 years old. Thanks to Chris, I shoot better now than I ever have. If a man in his late-sixties can improve, anyone can improve.
Found this video by accident while searching for using a ghost ring. Very informative, thank you Chris for sharing. Have been shooting since 7 years old and achieved the Navy sharp shooter award but have never been taught this technique. Can not wait to try on the range.

Chris, thank you for your service. Many people shoot for decades and never really get the consistent accuracy they are looking for. Front sight focus can't be stressed enough. (and sight alignment). Nothing else will work until a shooter believes this and uses it for every shot. This one important technique and the mental aspect of shooting allowed me to be "Double Distinguished" (NRA Police Combat) and "Expert" with pistol and rifle in the Army. You are so correct...It can't be stressed enough. Almost sounds too easy to a new shooter! Many shooters don't know the difference between sight alignment and sight picture, and no one ever told them.
Watched the video 2 days ago and just went to the range today and took this knowledge I gained from the full video and I hit spot on every time it upped my accuracy big time! Thanks!!
I did this at the shooting range with a new pistol that I had never shot before. It works. I hadn't shot much for a couple years and my groups were good - better than previously. I mentioned to the range master that I want to practice more to get better groups. He said that my target was pretty good already. Each day before I put away my carry gun, I draw and focus on the front sight for practice, while pointing in a safe direction with my finger off the trigger. With this regular practice, my focus gets easier. With a box of 100 rounds, my groups are better than before. Thank you for reminding me about what I knew I should be doing. And yes, by focusing on the front sight, I can still track the target much better than I thought possible.

Hey Chris, just wanted to send a quick thank you for this video. It truly opened my eyes to distinguishing the difference between looking and focusing. For the past few weeks I've been practicing to focus on the front sight and combine that with dry fire. The results have allowed me to score 9 points higher in my qualification. Thanks again!

When I first started shooting (in competition), I had the benefit of learning from some excellent shooters (a state champion; an Olympic alternate; a police national champion). They all stressed the importance of focusing on the front sight. One of the first things they had me do was apply some "White-Out" to the front sites to try it out. It didn't take long to make it permanent! When my "group" was NOT a group - and I adamantly maintained that I WAS focusing on it, they disagreed. They then went on to prove it to me and it is a drill I still use and used when teaching my wife how to shoot. Hang the target up BACKWARDS! And, like magic, my group became a group right in the center. PROOF that I was looking at the target. Try it and I bet you will amaze yourself! Thanks for all the visuals and for sharing the importance and some exercises on how to train!
LOL, I just did that before reading comments, white out gets really dingy, but that's ok , it'll be good for a while, then I can clean it off and re apply, or just keep re applying till the front gets to heavy... 😁
@@bikersoncall LOL! As I have gotten older, it got heavy all by itself! 😊 When I made it permanent, I used a little white enamel paint. (Just don't use a spray can!😁) Happy shooting - and ride safe!

Just saw this and was able to get through the exercises. Grabbed my EDC, which already had a white dot on the front, and within seconds was able to focus. Thank you for this great tip!!!!
Thanks Chris. Your lessons continue to highlight the basic tenet of perfection of never stop training, and learning. Too many folks look for a quick and easy fix to their inconsistencies in accuracy. The coolest firearm in the newest magazines, the newest ammo, and sweetest cool guy gear, cannot improve your proficiency as much as the most basic practices, and attentions to basics. This cannot be overstated.
Just tried this out today and wow, what a difference! I still have work to do of course, but I think this is the single best tip I’ve gotten about shooting technique from anyone, ever. (sorry, dad)

Chris Sajnog I remember a thing that worked for me when I was assigned to my battalion marksmanship team for the 82nd Airborne Division, we were told to use a Bic lighter and hold the flame on the front sight post for a second or two, it would put carbon on the sight and make it blacker (matte black basically, so it wouldn't reflect light back toward the eye, and just like that appliance paint, it wipes off.) I could focus more on the front sight post and not on the side shields, and could line up more precisely on the target.
I guess i am defective... when I truely focus on the front site with both eyes open a blurry double target is there... the real bullseye on the right and the "extra one" in the left of my focused post. If I close my left eye the left blurry one goes away. I have seen people say focus on the target with both eyes open and on the post with 1 eye open.... that works better for me.
@@docequis9796 Some time the dominant eye will take over even if you have both eyes open and focused on the front sight. A lot depends on your vision too. I use to be left eye dominant and then had eye surgery and now I'm right eye dominant as the left eye is all screwed up and so my brain compensated and made my right eye the dominant one. The brain ignores the vision signals coming from the bad left eye and focuses on my right eye only. Do you know how to find out which of your eyes in the dominant one?
@@Moveon10001 i am right eye dominant. But what I am saying is true. If you focus hard on the post then there are 2 blurry targets. If you focus on the target there is 1 target and a hazy blurry post that is kinda see through.
@@docequis9796 If you´re right eye dominent, on presentation of the gun, turn your head slightly to the left so that you present the right eye a little closer to the gun, that will help keeping both eyes open and still focus with your dominent eye.
Guess what Chris!!! Went to gun range first time since Viet Nam this AM. 1st shot 5-ring...made me giddy. Forgot and mistakenly "LOOKED" at front blade for #2 - 1 cm under shot 1; (internal voice: BS you know what you did return to your training!!!) GET THIS: shots 3,4,5 through SAME HOLE as #1. I've got the target and showed it to management at range. Your training is what allowed me to BEGIN TO TRAIN WELL and make this SPECTACULAR DEPARTURE FROM PAST HABITS. Bays, Sgt USMC 65-69. I'm still green/new. The Marine Corps did not train a one of us children (age 17 - 20) to shoot!!! Thank you and God Bless you and your family sir!
Thanks for this. I just got back into shooting after 28 years, and have been remembering my training from when I was in the Canadian Forces, Artillery. You just reminded me of a lesson from that time.
I watched this a few days ago. I watch again at least once everyday. Then I practice with my weapon everyday. I saw where another school shooting in LA happened today. It is imperative that everyone becomes proficient with forearms to protect our communities.
I had to come back and thank you. Sir, I haven’t shot in about a year and a half -not good- and the first time I went I was all over the place. I watched your video, applied color to my front sight and re-applied the fundamentals of NPA, and behold I was a entire new shooter today. Thank you for helping me improve, before I thought I was just bad with small arms, now I can recognize my mistakes and correct them.
Listening to your video brought back memories of when my Dad taught me how to shoot. He was a sniper in the Korean war. When I was old enough to hold a bb gun rifle he was giving me lessons. I stopped shooting for a few years, ok a few decades. Apparently I forgot some important things he taught me. One in which focusing on the front sight. I was a pretty decent shooter back in the day. I have in the last five or so years taken shooting up again. Forgot how much fun it was. I can't wait to get to the range to practice what you retaught me that I forgot. Thank you for this. I started out on a 410 with no sights and slugs at around 5 years old. I could pop cans off fences posts with every shot at 50 to 75 yards our. once i got to shoot guns with sights... i had ones with the white mark. Felt like easy mode at that point. it was crazy. My dad was a sniper / ambush in vietnam and he taught me all of this back in the late 70s and early 80s. I got insane with my shots. You finally get to a point.. you can just land them with no effort. Blows me away when i see people struggle then i remember they didnt have the training from 4 and 5 years old like i did. Great video and its dead on.

Thanks for this video and advice/instruction. When I was first shooting years ago, my friend and teacher Nick (retired Yavapai County deputy/Highway Patrol) simply told me "Put the front sight in the orange" that first time out. It worked then and it still works. It is simply "FOCUS". I will never forget his words and now your video here. He was a great guy. RIP
So I was actually doing a few drills with the pistol at the range and accidentally discovered this. So I searched on TH-cam to see if there are videos about my own findings and this one does make sense. HOWEVER, what is missing is the importance of how far or close the pistol is to your face. I cannot get the shots down range when I lock out my arms. When the pistol is close to me with arms slightly bent, I closed up my groups from 10" vertical to 5" round!!! This was just the first day! Looking forward to really focusing and taking my time!!! Thanks! I think I might still go ahead and make a video about how I did it, seems like magic!
Hi Chris I started with your focus videos they work well. I have a CZ PO 7 with trijicon sights as from the factory and after I blacked out the rear sight's 2 dots I can focus much beter on the front sight and that works defenately. I'm from South Africa and being in the military myself I support the Navy Seals and have so much respect for you guys. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
This is a new concept for me. I’ve learned everything I know about shooting and guns from TH-cam, and I’ve never heard to focus on your front sight. When I first started shooting with both eyes open I started focusing on my target when shooting as I thought that was sort of the point of keeping both eyes open. I’m happy to be set straight and excited to try this out on my next range trip

Focusing on the front sight is what I was just taught in my pistol shooting class. Although I am pretty good at grouping my shots, I still have a long way to go. I need to improve in ALL aspects of shooting, but I am going to work on this aspect a lot more.

What shall i say?! I watched your video, an hour later I had an appointment at a gun range with an instructor for shooting with a gun for the very first time. Spread was within 2 inches at an distance of approx. 8 yards. Thanks for giving him a dropped jaw
This is so incredibly helpful. I have been told this but those visuals drove home the point. I watched this before my last range session and even though through COVID I was able to take a lot of time and focus on being a better shooter and made tons of strides, after watching this video my shooting increased 100%. Just ordered the book. Even though I was on active duty for 24 years, I was a maintainer. My weapons quals were very basic and the weapon was the M870 shotgun. As for my recreational shooting, it's all self taught. You hit the nail on the head with the group picture at the begging of the video. That's me! This video was amazing. Thank you for this. I just bought a Taurus TX, 22. First time buying a gun. I'm gonna be trained on how to use it. I have been trying to watch a lot of video's to learn about handling and shooting my gun. I took 2 safety course's pass them both. But still nervous about shooting it. i'm about your age. the trick that helped me alot was having a white point on the front post but also putting a piece of tape, preferably colored, across the top of the rear sight. this tape helps you align the hieght. even if you dont focus perfectly it greatly improves you shot. let me know. enjoy.
Hi Sir. I can tell you’re a good teacher. The images stopped moving because I focused on the front sight. And those pink dots actually appeared to have disappeared. Your content is excellent content for first timers, and experience pistol shooters. I am certainly a first timer pistol handler. In addition, after watching your content, I must say, yes, I have a lot to learn. On my first day in a gun range, let me be the first to tell you that it was very intimidating to be in a gun range next to experience pistol handlers. They knew their stuff: Grabbing the pistol, lifting the pistol, pointing the pistol, and shooting the pistol. As I watched and listing to their shots hit their targets spot dead center, I tried my best to used my dominate eye to look at my target through the rear sight and front sight so that I could hit my target dead center as well. I kept at it, eventually my shots were getting closer and closer to my target spot, and after a few misses I finally hit my target spot dead center even though I still have more practice to do. For me lining up the rear sight and front sight with my target is the most difficult task.
Never knew there was a difference between looking and Focusing! You do a great job explaining things, very easy!! Can't wait to try it out especially in the range!!
Very similar to "listening" and "Hearing". One is not the other. Most people hear others talk, but don't listen very well at all. As my parents often told me, "You're hearing what I'm saying, but you're not listening to what I'm saying." And, of course, my backside got a bit red shortly after that comment.
I once shot this devious course of fire involving a crap ton of different color balloons.It was all about drawing your focus off the front post and onto the target. That was an interesting moment that I realized I had actually progressed as a shooter.

This is the same system I used when I racing a gokart at high speeds on the big tracks. It never dawned on me what I was doing until I just saw the technic here. It was easy for me to go through the excercises while unknowingly using the same system as I did those many yesrs ago. Thnak you.
Putting red fiber optic front sights on pistols made a huge difference for me. I always wondered how the ipsc/uspsa guys could shoot so fast and hit all alphas. Once they showed me how to focus on the front sight while leaving both eyes open as well as proper trigger control (not pinning it, but reseting during recoil and finding the wall as your gun settles) I instantly improved.
This was made 9 years ago but the lesson we got here is one of those classic examples of an ageless, timeless really good lesson.
Uhh, just so you know front sight focus is essentially out the window. With RDS's becoming way more popular target acquisition is more important, as is shooting with both eyes open. I was taught to shoot in the Marines so I understand the importance of it but really, with a proper shooting stance, most high level shooters at this point aren't even acquiring their sights anymore.
So the target will look blurry because we're supposed to focus on the front sight?
@@drm3259 I'm struggling with the 'both eyes open' technique, was at the range yesterday and tried it and I couldn't wrap my head around it at all. All I see is double vision, double vision of my gun / my gun's sights, and double vision of my target... If i just focus on the target, then I have no control of my gun, if it's even pointing anywhere near where I'm trying to hit. I ran through a few clips, and it was a total mess (I'm shooting a handgun, iron SIG 3-dot tritium sights, standing with no support, at 4inch targets at 10 yards/30 feet) .... any suggestions?

@@nyanity Red Dot Sight. If you look with both eyes open your dominant eye will naturally acquire the red dot but you'll have a much wider field of view. There's absolutely no point in closing one eye unless you want to see a lot less.
I was a range-master for 20 years and way always instructed to look at the front sight. In training it was always screamed "front sight, front sight" but no one ever explained how to focus only on the sight and everything else would cease to move. Spot-on! Thanks Chris. I just really can’t understand. Do you aiming with one eye closed? Because of non, and focusing on front sight, then target is visually doubled for left and right eye! I just can’t tell what copy is true. On the opposite, if I focus on the target with both eyes open, then pistol is double but I CAN what copy is true
I'm trying to grow up and learn this in real life - not just video games.

@@vlenkov38 I hear, even in archery, two-eyed shooting is for fast and flexible shots whereas one-eyed is for concentrating and hitting a stationary target further down. Lars Anderson, master war archer, proved this in his research of resurrecting war archery. You should check it out.

tax dollars lol, in your life to this point you may have paid a dollar for the service of one man. Yet those that talk about tax dollars rarely do anything to serve back to the community or country they claim to support so hard and true. 95% of serving military joins from the lower middle class or poor and get out maybe in better shape financially but then when issues arise from service or adjustment to rejoining the strange world from professional killing which is what the service becomes for many in front line and supporting ground force specialties like combat engineers, transport, combat medics, even fuel tanker drivers saw intense combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, many MOS division personnel basically that may not do well sitting in a cubicle and feeling like they can exist in this way, and yet it seems that many people are less inclined to want to support the tax dollars for after care of my buddies, should they need long term medical and mental health care. It's not a front end only scenario.

Just seeing this. Been shooting for over 30 years, and as we (I) get older, we fall into bad habits. We also cannot just rely on young eyes, etc. My concentration and sight are not what they used to be and thus, accuracy wanes. This is awesome. Totally gets you back in the zone. Thanks!!
Trigger finger placement, grip, and this video have helped my shooting immensely. Changing those 3 things made shooting an entirely different experience. My M&P sight has 3 white circles you line up. Helps intense focus. Lining up my thumb with my index finger on the slide saved my grip. I have curved fingertips and the best advice I got for pulling the trigger was from this dude; do what feels best. I'm a significantly better shooter letting my fingers work naturally and my sight picture has improved. Thanks so much, my dude.

I wanted to go for executive protection since my background is armed security and firearms instructor. How did it go for you? I was under the impression that you had to have a lot of experience to be considered for the position.
First, he said he just starting training for executive protection, not that he was about done training. Second, the training never stops. I've gone to many shooting courses and have learned something from all of them. Also, executive protection is complex and firearms experience/knowledge is a very small part of what the profession is about if protecting in first world countries. Most people are surprised when they find out how frequently protection agents are not armed on assignment with a principal.
I'm very very impressed with this video. I watched this video before I went on the shooting range for the first time and everyone thought it wasn't my first time because of how accurate and precise I shot those pistols just using this training. I am not kidding!! Thank you very much!! I learned a lot.

I took personal training from an instructor who told me to focus on the target. My shots were scattered. When I started focusing on the front sight, not looking, my shot groups are tight, and I'm talking about a big hole in the middle of the target, whether it's the head or center mass. The techniques Chris teaches work. Be patient, try them and you will become a better shooter.

The Army taught us, rear sight is blurry, target is blurry, front sight is crystal clear. Simple! Great video! If you try this and have trouble, just practice, you have to train your eyes to focus on that front post. Practice practice practice!

Wow! I just learned that I have not been focusing on anything at all. I thought I was focusing on the front sight but learned that while doing so I could still see two sight posts in my vision. After truly focusing on the front sight I only saw one.
All the times I was "told" to focus on the front sight and even finding success in shooting sports, I felt like my skill would plateau and THIS brings a whole new level to focus! Awesome.

I'm a new shooter too. I've taken 2 group classes and 2 private in last 4 months using rental guns and last one class, the instructor asked me if I was looking thru the site. Learned this at Gunsite Raven in Arizona with Jeff Cooper. Target acquisition, front site, slow mash to the rear on the trigger. Practice practice practice. Dryfire first. I also worked on getting the same grip each time I drew from my holster. ALL guns are always loaded. Never point or aim at something your not ready to destroy. I like how you said make your front site even smaller to better focus on your entry point. 👍
I've never shot a gun in my life today was my first day in the range with my wife and i watched this video the week before and i was in the zone!!!! Focusing helped me so much i missed couple shots but my sights were clear while everything around me slowed down and got easy i really appreciate you man

Chris, thank you for your service. Many people shoot for decades and never really get the consistent accuracy they are looking for. Front sight focus can't be stressed enough. (and sight alignment). Nothing else will work until a shooter believes this and uses it for every shot. This one important technique and the mental aspect of shooting allowed me to be "Double Distinguished" (NRA Police Combat) and "Expert" with pistol and rifle in the Army. You are so correct...It can't be stressed enough. Almost sounds too easy to a new shooter! Many shooters don't know the difference between sight alignment and sight picture, and no one ever told them.
Watched the video 2 days ago and just went to the range today and took this knowledge I gained from the full video and I hit spot on every time it upped my accuracy big time! Thanks!!

I did this at the shooting range with a new pistol that I had never shot before. It works. I hadn't shot much for a couple years and my groups were good - better than previously. I mentioned to the range master that I want to practice more to get better groups. He said that my target was pretty good already. Each day before I put away my carry gun, I draw and focus on the front sight for practice, while pointing in a safe direction with my finger off the trigger. With this regular practice, my focus gets easier. With a box of 100 rounds, my groups are better than before. Thank you for reminding me about what I knew I should be doing. And yes, by focusing on the front sight, I can still track the target much better than I thought possible.

America is in a big mess today... Like consequences of war in Afghanistan does two types of casualties to NATO countries. 1) battlefield casualties. 2) Intra-country casualties.
People may know the first one, but 2nd one may not be inside their view. And western women have been developed by today's american culture to dream about themselves as the "BEST PRODUCT IN THE MARKET FOR MEN'S LEISURE"... They literally don't have any rights, except for show-cased rights. They are ill treated and and considered as a product for satisfying male lust. And the saddest part is that they taught to think like that and consider it as their freedom!! Uuuhhh!!!
Though it's fun at the beginning, but a baby is conceived in girl's belly, not the boy... And they ususally separate before the conceiving baby. The odds are against women.... Hey Chris, just wanted to send a quick thank you for this video. It truly opened my eyes to distinguishing the difference between looking and focusing. For the past few weeks I've been practicing to focus on the front sight and combine that with dry fire. The results have allowed me to score 9 points higher in my qualification. Thanks again!

Distinguishing between looking at the front sight and focusing on it is very important to me. A excellent article and not the first time that I have read it.
When I first started shooting (in competition), I had the benefit of learning from some excellent shooters (a state champion; an Olympic alternate; a police national champion). They all stressed the importance of focusing on the front sight. One of the first things they had me do was apply some "White-Out" to the front sites to try it out. It didn't take long to make it permanent!
When my "group" was NOT a group - and I adamantly maintained that I WAS focusing on it, they disagreed. They then went on to prove it to me and it is a drill I still use and used when teaching my wife how to shoot. Hang the target up BACKWARDS! And, like magic, my group became a group right in the center. PROOF that I was looking at the target. Try it and I bet you will amaze yourself!

Thank you for this! Been shooting my whole life but never took a lesson. This made a ton of sense and the patterns really helped, I just focused until I saw the sailboat and squeezed haha. I'm an extremely visual learner so this made things click.
Just saw this and was able to get through the exercises. Grabbed my EDC, which already had a white dot on the front, and within seconds was able to focus. Thank you for this great tip!!!!
Thanks Chris. Your lessons continue to highlight the basic tenet of perfection of never stop training, and learning. Too many folks look for a quick and easy fix to their inconsistencies in accuracy. The coolest firearm in the newest magazines, the newest ammo, and sweetest cool guy gear, cannot improve your proficiency as much as the most basic practices, and attentions to basics. This cannot be overstated.
Just tried this out today and wow, what a difference! I still have work to do of course, but I think this is the single best tip I’ve gotten about shooting technique from anyone, ever. (sorry, dad)

Chris Sajnog I remember a thing that worked for me when I was assigned to my battalion marksmanship team for the 82nd Airborne Division, we were told to use a Bic lighter and hold the flame on the front sight post for a second or two, it would put carbon on the sight and make it blacker (matte black basically, so it wouldn't reflect light back toward the eye, and just like that appliance paint, it wipes off.) I could focus more on the front sight post and not on the side shields, and could line up more precisely on the target.

The hardest part about this (sage) advice is accepting that what you’re “aiming” at downrange will appear a bit fuzzy.
I guess i am defective... when I truely focus on the front site with both eyes open a blurry double target is there... the real bullseye on the right and the "extra one" in the left of my focused post. If I close my left eye the left blurry one goes away. I have seen people say focus on the target with both eyes open and on the post with 1 eye open.... that works better for me.
@@docequis9796 Some time the dominant eye will take over even if you have both eyes open and focused on the front sight. A lot depends on your vision too. I use to be left eye dominant and then had eye surgery and now I'm right eye dominant as the left eye is all screwed up and so my brain compensated and made my right eye the dominant one. The brain ignores the vision signals coming from the bad left eye and focuses on my right eye only. Do you know how to find out which of your eyes in the dominant one?
@@Moveon10001 i am right eye dominant. But what I am saying is true. If you focus hard on the post then there are 2 blurry targets. If you focus on the target there is 1 target and a hazy blurry post that is kinda see through.

@@docequis9796 If you´re right eye dominent, on presentation of the gun, turn your head slightly to the left so that you present the right eye a little closer to the gun, that will help keeping both eyes open and still focus with your dominent eye.
Guess what Chris!!! Went to gun range first time since Viet Nam this AM. 1st shot 5-ring...made me giddy. Forgot and mistakenly "LOOKED" at front blade for #2 - 1 cm under shot 1; (internal voice: BS you know what you did return to your training!!!) GET THIS: shots 3,4,5 through SAME HOLE as #1. I've got the target and showed it to management at range. Your training is what allowed me to BEGIN TO TRAIN WELL and make this SPECTACULAR DEPARTURE FROM PAST HABITS. Bays, Sgt USMC 65-69. I'm still green/new. The Marine Corps did not train a one of us children (age 17 - 20) to shoot!!! Thank you and God Bless you and your family sir!

I had to come back and thank you. Sir, I haven’t shot in about a year and a half -not good- and the first time I went I was all over the place. I watched your video, applied color to my front sight and re-applied the fundamentals of NPA, and behold I was a entire new shooter today. Listening to your video brought back memories of when my Dad taught me how to shoot. He was a sniper in the Korean war. When I was old enough to hold a bb gun rifle he was giving me lessons. I stopped shooting for a few years, ok a few decades. Apparently I forgot some important things he taught me. One in which focusing on the front sight. I was a pretty decent shooter back in the day. I have in the last five or so years taken shooting up again. Forgot how much fun it was. I can't wait to get to the range to practice what you retaught me that I forgot. Thank you for this. I started out on a 410 with no sights and slugs at around 5 years old. I could pop cans off fences posts with every shot at 50 to 75 yards our. once i got to shoot guns with sights... i had ones with the white mark. Felt like easy mode at that point. it was crazy. My dad was a sniper / ambush in vietnam and he taught me all of this back in the late 70s and early 80s. I got insane with my shots. You finally get to a point.. you can just land them with no effort. Blows me away when i see people struggle then i remember they didnt have the training from 4 and 5 years old like i did. Great video and its dead on.

Thanks for this video and advice/instruction. When I was first shooting years ago, my friend and teacher Nick (retired Yavapai County deputy/Highway Patrol) simply told me "Put the front sight in the orange" that first time out. It worked then and it still works. It is simply "FOCUS". I will never forget his words and now your video here. He was a great guy. RIP
So I was actually doing a few drills with the pistol at the range and accidentally discovered this. So I searched on TH-cam to see if there are videos about my own findings and this one does make sense. HOWEVER, what is missing is the importance of how far or close the pistol is to your face. I cannot get the shots down range when I lock out my arms. When the pistol is close to me with arms slightly bent, I closed up my groups from 10" vertical to 5" round!!! This was just the first day! Looking forward to really focusing and taking my time!!! Thanks!

Hi Chris I started with your focus videos they work well. I have a CZ PO 7 with trijicon sights as from the factory and after I blacked out the rear sight's 2 dots I can focus much beter on the front sight and that works defenately. I'm from South Africa and being in the military myself I support the Navy Seals and have so much respect for you guys. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

When I first started shooting with both eyes open I started focusing on my target when shooting as I thought that was sort of the point of keeping both eyes open. I’m happy to be set straight and excited to try this out on my next range trip

Focusing on the front sight is what I was just taught in my pistol shooting class. Although I am pretty good at grouping my shots, I still have a long way to go. I need to improve in ALL aspects of shooting, but I am going to work on this aspect a lot more.

What shall i say?! I watched your video, an hour later I had an appointment at a gun range with an instructor for shooting with a gun for the very first time. Spread was within 2 inches at an distance of approx. 8 yards. Thanks for giving him a dropped jaw

This is so incredibly helpful. I have been told this but those visuals drove home the point. I watched this before my last range session and even though through COVID I was able to take a lot of time and focus on being a better shooter and made tons of strides, after watching this video my shooting increased 100%. I am new to shooting. Yesterday was my first day and at 15 yards my shots were all over the place. I’m looking forward to practicing this method.
Just ordered the book. Even though I was on active duty for 24 years, I was a maintainer. My weapons quals were very basic and the weapon was the M870 shotgun. As for my recreational shooting, it's all self taught. You hit the nail on the head with the group picture at the begging of the video. That's me! This video was amazing. Thank you for this. I just bought a Taurus TX, 22. First time buying a gun. I'm gonna be trained on how to use it. I have been trying to watch a lot of video's to learn about handling and shooting my gun. I took 2 safety course's pass them both. But still nervous about shooting it. I will never stop watching videos until i start to feel comfortable with it. wish me luck on training plz.

I do believe that the key here is having good vision at 62 years old my vision just isn't as crisp as it once was .
i'm about your age. the trick that helped me alot was having a white point on the front post but also putting a piece of tape, preferably colored, across the top of the rear sight. this tape helps you align the hieght. even if you dont focus perfectly it greatly improves you shot. let me know. enjoy.

Hi Sir. I can tell you’re a good teacher. The images stopped moving because I focused on the front sight. And those pink dots actually appeared to have disappeared.
Your content is excellent content for first timers, and experience pistol shooters. I am certainly a first timer pistol handler. In addition, after watching your content, I must say, yes, I have a lot to learn.
On my first day in a gun range, let me be the first to tell you that it was very intimidating to be in a gun range next to experience pistol handlers. They knew their stuff: Grabbing the pistol, lifting the pistol, pointing the pistol, and shooting the pistol.
As I watched and listing to their shots hit their targets spot dead center, I tried my best to used my dominate eye to look at my target through the rear sight and front sight so that I could hit my target dead center as well. I kept at it, eventually my shots were getting closer and closer to my target spot, and after a few misses I finally hit my target spot dead center even though I still have more practice to do. For me lining up the rear sight and front sight with my target is the most difficult task.
I wish I had this 7 years ago when it was posted! Better late than never. This is good stuff!!
Never knew there was a difference between looking and Focusing! You do a great job explaining things, very easy!! Can't wait to try it out especially in the range!!
Very similar to "listening" and "Hearing". One is not the other. Most people hear others talk, but don't listen very well at all. As my parents often told me, "You're hearing what I'm saying, but you're not listening to what I'm saying." And, of course, my backside got a bit red shortly after that comment.

I once shot this devious course of fire involving a crap ton of different color balloons.It was all about drawing your focus off the front post and onto the target. That was an interesting moment that I realized I had actually progressed as a shooter.
This is crazy how this works. Can’t wait to try this with my new rifle. Interesting that the first picture for me was never moving to start with. The others…spot on.
This is the same system I used when I racing a gokart at high speeds on the big tracks. It never dawned on me what I was doing until I just saw the technic here. It was easy for me to go through the excercises while unknowingly using the same system as I did those many yesrs ago. Thnak you.
Sight alignment, sight picture, breathing control, trigger control.... perfect shot........ do not anticipate.
Putting red fiber optic front sights on pistols made a huge difference for me. I always wondered how the ipsc/uspsa guys could shoot so fast and hit all alphas. Once they showed me how to focus on the front sight while leaving both eyes open as well as proper trigger control (not pinning it, but reseting during recoil and finding the wall as your gun settles) I instantly improved.
