Carburetor and Fuel Pump Rebuild Velosolex (Part 7)

  • My Velosolex restoration continues with the rebuild of the carburetor and the mechanical fuel pump. Both components have been sitting for a while and therefore needed to be completely torn down and inspected. Where possible the original parts were rebuild and used again as this is most likely the better way to go compared to buy repro pieces.
    The fuel pump needed new ball and ball seats as the old ones were sticky and worn. The pump as well as the carburetor were deep cleaned and glass bead blasted followed by an ultrasonic treatment. The front cover was taken apart to be able to clean into depth. After reassembling, the pump was tested and found ok.
    The carburetor had a wrong nozzle. It was indicated as the correct size, but a measurement showed an increased bore diameter. Probably somebody tried to increase the engine performance. So that one was exchanged.
    The cold start air adjusting lever was missing. Therefore, I had to manufacture a new one from aluminium.
    Both pieces are ready for installation and should work without issues.
