Magnifique , beautiful restoration ,this remember me ,with some tears in my eyes , my grandpa when he took earlier in the morning his own solex to go to the station to take the train from Paris St Lazare to Bercy ,where he use to work in a factory who made Champagne cork....Nobody never steal his old bike ...it was in the beginning of the sixties...in memory !
Many thanks for your comment and the memories you shared. A wonderfull story to remember. So many stories and memories about Solex are droping in here-great! Thanks
Excellent. Good to see an iconic moped treated with respect. While once common, they now rarely come up for sale in working order. I'd like one because in my old age, "fast" is not the priority it once was. The new priority is taking time to appreciate the sights and smells of the surroundings. A most enjoyable video.
Thanks a lot for dropping this comment. I see it similar and was amazed about the feeling of deceleration while driving down the road. It sharpens the senses for the good things in life. Thanks, I‘m glad you liked it👍
Thank you for your comment and compliment. I appreciate the fact, that you see the work of documenting such a project beside the actual work. I‘m glad you liked it. Thanks
New subscriber here. Great presentation and filming and editing. Thank you for not running awful royalty free music throughout your video. The small bit of tasteful music included with the completed motor was spot on. I look forward to checking out your other content.
Congratulations for the thorough restoration , impressive job . In my country ( Vietnam ) the Velosolex was a popular moped used by women in the 1960s. When japanese motorbikes arrived in the late sixties , french motorbikes became outdated rapidly.
Good day. Thank you very much. I read those lines with joy as I really didn‘t know about the fact, that the solex reached vietnam widely back in the sixties. Thanks for leaving a comment-appreciated. All the best to Vietnam (great country)
Beautiful job. I rode one of these to a part-time job at a paint-supply company. I didn't know it too well at first, I couldn't start it and was pedaling along--a guy on a regular bicycle went by and said, "Ha-ha." Then I got it started and went right by him and said, "Ha-ha!" It was a fun little machine.
My parents married in 1946. Their first car was a VERY tired 1927 Austin 7. One day, I'm told, they were struggling up a hill with much clutch slip. A man on a bicycle passed them and he didn't say Ha-ha! It was closer to "WTF?!" Col, NZ
Thank you very much for your appreciated comment. It‘s great to see that you liked the details that are maybe not as spectacular but required to achieve a nice result without hiding anything. Thank you again and all the best
Beautiful i have been waiting to see it run i have started at the beginning again cant get enough of it most enjoyable videos i have ever watched huge help to me trying to restore my solex 5000, hope you start something new soon thanks a mill.
Thank you for your highly appreciated comments. To read your lines motivate me to continue. It‘s great to unite people with same interests around the globe. The Solex surely has a huge fane base. Thanks
That's a really great restoration mate! It brings back some memories, as my dad had one in the late 60s early 70s, and it was fun to ride. Not exactly a powerhouse, but on a good day you could almost reach 30 kph. lol
Many thanks. With homesickness and tailwind you might reach hovering speed😉It‘s fun to ride but even better to here such stories with memories. Thanks for sharing
Alter!
Thank you, I‘m glad you like it. Prime idea is not to do „how to“ videos but more like entertainment videos. Obviously on course here. All the best from Switzerland. 🇨🇭
Many thanks for your comments, compliments and the sharing of your priceless memories. I‘m glad the detailed close up work is being seen and appreciated. The filming takes a lot of time……Swiss precision sounds good, I guess I just have expectations to my self set to a certain level and hope people like it. Thanks
Good day, thanks for dropping a comment. It‘s an enrichment, to see how far this movie goes and what memories are being activated. Thanks to Uruguay and you
I think in the 60's you had to be 14 years old in France before you could ride one, but nobody paid much attention to such details when freedom was still valued.
I remebered when I got my first bike. It was a Maxi Puch and I was 13 years old. Had to wait until turning 14 before the best time of mobility (freedome)started in my life. Great memories, thanks for sharing
Lovely restauration. I liked seeing all the peculiar French engineering. So different. You can immediately recognize it as French. In no other country they would design it like this.
Thanks a lot, appreciate your comment. That is a good question. The filming kept me from working efficiently. I assume I had 30-40% longer just because of the interruptions due to the filming. Let me break this down to come up with a figure. I‘ll revert to you then. Thanks
Hoi Tom.
James, thanks a lot for your comment. Appreciated! First of all, stick as much as possible to original parts, as the repros are often useless. So rather invest time to refurbish them. Second, yes, there are good sources here in europe, but I assume the logistic to mauritius isn’t cheap. Maybe make a list and order once…..or twice. There is a awesome place in the netherlands called „solexmarkt“. He had things others didn‘t. All the best to 🇲🇺 been there👍

Thank you for your comment. Absolutely, it definitely looks french 😄
Merci bien👍
Besser als meine geworden 😃 Glückwunsch!
Danke👍Wo kann man dein Solex bewundern?

Approximately, how many hours in this restoration Tom?

Absolutely brilliant my friend. I am yet to do mine. Any ideas where to get parts? I am missing a carburetor. Big respect from Mauritius.

good 🎉

😅56:03 The magical move 😊👍🏻🤝🏻🇳🇱
😂😂I had to go back checking 56:03 to make sure what move you mean. One sais, it‘s never too dark to be cool😎😎. Thanks for watching👍
