Appreciate your thoughts and knowledge on this. I was hoping for the topic to develope like this, as we now have a nice collection of understandable reasons why inventors and engineers built the way they did. Just to say „it is how it is“ without questioning won‘t make one understand to get the whole picture any better. There are definitely pros and cons when pinning rings. Thanks for your inputs, appreciated. I was hoping for a formula to exist, couldn‘t find one though. Countermeasures like bridging is often seen on simular engine sizes (50ccm) for instance on older Puch engines. They however have bigger openings and therefore it makes perfectly sense as a countermeasure. Thanks again!

Thanks for commenting. I was curious, how much positive influence the piston ring ends would have when shaped at an angle like in the given example. The port size is crucial. Still, I wonder why all the tech books call for piston ring pins in general, when talking about two stroke engines? This could be separated depending on engine size. Thanks

@@fredmitchel1236 Thanks for commenting. The size of the ports is cruicial in my opinion as u mention. And yes, the velosolex doesn‘t have power beside the human being adding power while pedaling😉

Tiny carb, too - 6mm or so. These things aren’t intended to go terribly fast - about 15mph/25kmh.

@@dennisyoung4631 Yep, 13mm down to 6.5mm. Isn’t a rocket indeed. Just a time capsule….

@@yoppindia Thanks for your comment. Yes, this is unusual und could be a reason. Due to fewer play, there would also be less tendency for the rings to open in the ports.

Hi there. To me it was surprising, that the original piston doesn‘t have the locking pins for the piston rings within the grooves, eventhough the cylinder has many port openings. Despite this combination, the engine has proven reliability over decades.

Where does it stuck? If it stucks at the glue that is left there from the old lens, use adhesive remover. If it stucks elswhere, air pressure does the job.Good luck

Hallo, danke für deinen Beitrag. Die Gummimischung kann definitiv der ausschlaggebende Grund für den noch intakten Zustand sein. Oft ändern die Herstellungsauflagen (Umwelt) was sich diesbezüglich eher negativ auswirkt. Auch bei anderen Gummiteilen, z.B bei Fahrzeugen, ist das jeweils neuere Ersatzteil ( oder Repro) einfach nicht mehr von gleicher Qualität, oder sogar gänzlich unbrauchbar. Sehr gerne.....ich bin auch gespannt
