I've got to say most of my childhood was spent playing CS 1.6 and seeing people sharing their experience and love with this game makes me so so happy. Here in Romania it's still widely played :))
i still remember back at 2012 i played cs 1.6 for the first time when i visit my friend's house and visiting several internet cafes to enjoy the game and its simplicity, while most people who came into internet cafes play a pay to win Cod/CS clone made in korea named point blank
When I played CS it was in the WON days. I didn't have a computer, but my friend did. I'd go over every weekend and we would play. I would control movement and he would shoot and vice versa. We got really good at doing that. Positive KDA all the time. Sharing 1 chair haha good memories.
damn, I'm actually early to one of your uploads :) as a 17 year old that was never around for this era of gaming, it's very, very interesting hearing you talk about your prior experience in so many of your other videos. Especially when it comes to more obscure internet stuff and communities, it's very intriguing and interesting to me, as to me, something great was once there in many of these old maps on these old games. I also enjoy the fact that you don't sugarcoat everything, and you really talk about personal experience.
You're going to make me cry... Sadly, I was borned too late to experience all that, since I started playing cs 1.6 with my dad in 2015, when I was only 9yo. I still have so many memories with friends that i made online, or servers that I used to play hours a day that closed years ago. Thanks for this vid man, love on you :D
i remember those days, i would go frequent on a non-steam community website that would host servers. at the time i did't have steam and i didn't have the money to buy CS 1.6, had very fun memories especially the nipper maps.
I started playing summer 2001 when I was 9. I remember my cousin came over to visit and I was in the swimming pool. He called my name and out of his sweatshirt pocket he pulled out the Counter-Strike game CD case. The rest is history.
I still remember not being allowed to play the game by my parents, since i was like 6 or 7 or something when everyone played 1.6. I only watched my brother play it and goddamn even that was fun. Sometimes, my brother would allow me to play just a little bit and he actually saw some potential. At some time (like 1-2 years later), i somehow talked my parents (especially my mother) to allow me to install Half-Life 1 with the old Orange Box CD (My father bought it back then and it even somehow was his i idea that i play some HL-1 with him and my brother). Little did he know, that he actually never used the key for Steam that comes with the Orange Box. He only always installed Half Life 1 with the CD and that was it. So, i thought "Hmmm, let's see if it still does work" and luckily enough it did. Then it struck me like a lightning... there was CS 1.6 included in it! I quickly installed it and somehow kept it secret to my parents and started playing with my brother and his friend. Absolutely nostalgic... but at some time i just told my parents that i did it, because i somehow felt guilty because even though i couldn't really understand why they wouldn't let me play this cool looking game, i still didn't follow their orders. And also, as soon as i started playing it "seriously" i quickly understood why i wasn't allowed to. Funnily enough, they actually allowed me to play this game further and found it funny that i was smart enough to just simply activate the code. Especially my father had a good chuckle about it, since he always didn't really get the full bang for his buck out of the Orange Box. Because of that, i am still playing shooter to this day!
I got to CS 1.6 through my brother, 5 years older than me. I think it was around 2012-2014 that I started playing on some servers hosted by communities. It was very common for servers to have a community of its own, including a forum board and a TeamSpeak 3 server. To this day I miss those servers, as CS 1.6 communities are pretty much dead here in Portugal. I have been playing on a portuguese CS 1.6 fun server lately, but it never gets many players like the g(old) days. Though, it's enough to relive the nostalgia.
I am 15 and i discovered cs late 2022. I am in love with it and playin the game all the time. Even at school one of my teachers playd it when he was little and asked me to send him the link for cs free version😹. Anyways i bout to make my memoryes now i only wish comunity was bigger. Alsoi must say the video felt like it was made by a much bigger youtuber which is a compliment. Keep up the great work👍
I was born around that time period. And yet still I have moments where I feel old as hell. Even though obviously 1.6 doesn't have the same player base, I enjoy playing on the Fastcup eu servers.
You’re videos are awesome and hit right home. I didn’t get CS1.6 until recently because my parents wouldn’t let me buy games all of the time, but even on CSGO and CSS I had so many good times on community servers. Counter Strike is something that I’ll never regret getting into, and in fact I should get back into it. It’s been a while
after months of only playing csgo, i recently decided to give 1.6 a try and ive been playing it non stop ever since. discovering the videos you've put out gave me a really cool insight on the game in general, but ive found the history of the community, mapping and skins really cool as well. congrats on 1k and keep up the great work!!!
Being the last person alive was always so stressful, but when you got that last kill when 20 people were watching....nothing matches it. RIP my poor func_vehicle though :(
Best love letter to Counter-Strike i’ve ever saw ! (In french, kids like us yelling at microphone were called « pyjamas » and that’s made me so hilarious 😂)
I had a similar experience, but growing up with source in 2011. My brother introduced me to the game when I was only 5 and I was hooked. I'm kinda sad there's no footage of me playing because I have almost no memory of me playing at that time :(
I was 5 years old when I got hooked on cs 1.6 in 2003 (the first time I played cs was when they still had the old console presumably 1.5 or 1.4). It was unreal experience, wish I could try and experience it once again. This was the only game I used to play all the time till like 2013~ I remember going to internet cafes in like 2008~ 09~ and killing everyone in LAN servers that were wayyy older than me. Being super good at the game really made me feel crazy, I've gotten into a fights even because how good I was in the LAN parties etc... some of them thought I was cheating haha... It's kinda crazy because I can't relate to some other peers the way I can relate to myself about what games they played. Usually they would say mario or some other games like that but to me it was counter strike or half life mp games. It is what it is though.
In 1.6, if you wanted to play competitive, you basically had to know someone that would introduce you into a whole new world outside of public servers. Then you’d have to use IRC to find players, scrims, and teams. With the new matchmaking systems, it’s become a very individual game. Getting 5 players together and then finding a match on top of that really put a lot more focus into working as a unit instead of 5 random dudes doing whatever they want.
krazzy, congratz with the 1000 subscribers!!! I love your videos so much (especially the stories from the old days). I hope your channel gets big enough (not 1 million big enough, that many subs changes people most of the time :/). Anyways, can you make some tutorials on map making in cs 1.6? I would love to see it. Take care :)))
This really reminded me of how I felt playing DotA, when I was a kid. Seeing those demon characters like Doom bringer (Lucifer) was shocking. I was raised in a religious Ukrainian family, I was way too afraid to even attempt playing as those characters. It felt like I was going straight to hell for even thinking about it. And the players were usually the same jerks that also played counter strike, especially at those popular internet cafes. Those gopniks would often ask a kid something like: "heey, let me show you a cool trick". After that younger kid payed for those minutes, to play some diablo, cs, or dota. These gopniks would just steal their game, and forget about the kid entirely. And if a young lad was good at the game... Oh boy, they were asking for it. Really tough times for kids without PCs and good internet connection at home, back then. Great video, dude!!!
😂 the cd drive opening, i wanna say it was .cupholder or something, spent most of my life playin cs back in the day like 2000-12, still play cs now, cs2 just not nearly as much as i used to cuz im old now.
What a video , so many memories and I am still plaiying it .. I can the 2003 vibe in the video editing like it was edited in Movie Maker (is it) that would be cool haha , thanks for the vid this one 4 the soul
@@krazzy6440 I'm glad you like my content too! Tbh your channel has got so much potential since there are no voices on YT from the 2000-2010 gaming era, and so you could be a goldmine of knowledge. As a teen I used to romanticize the 98-2008 era of online gaming and I always wished I was born during that period, since I picked up CS and HL in 2010 as a 12-13 yo. I would even read ten years old forums discussions for the "nostalgia"

Thank you for sharing the story! Loved it. Reading this was a real treat for me because I've never had anyone with a shared sentiment. The story people would generally come to me with was that they've already played FPS games and 1.6 was a breeze- like they were pros after playing for 20 minutes for the first time. Awesome story and I appreciate you taking the time to share it. :)
Hey, Krazzy i like your content. just like your "The Skins Before CSGO" video, i would really love it if you made a video on playermodel packs for cs 1.6 (especially Laca Models). i know this will get left with other comments and abandoned, but i would like to see a video like that come out :)
Thanks for the comment. Would you like to message me more information on the topic via DMs on discord? Or leave me a comment about their influence here. I'm mainly familiar with Jennifer's animations and MorpheuS' art influence in CS history. Would love to hear more about this. Thank you.
In 2002 my brother and I got in trouble with my mom because we were “playing” counter strike in real life with some neighbor kids and kept yelling “terrorists win” in the front yard.
Cool story bro, really. Wierd to see this perspective, as I grew up with PC games, SNES and Playstation and CS was not too mystical at that point. Well DoD and CS blew up the online gaming part by being good online games, but as a seasoned squaky voiced Half-Life enjoyer and R6 veteran I never percieved CS as anything intimidating let alone scary thematically, although CS was intense specially when the bomb was ticking etc. However, I remember Doom and Duke Nukem being scary to a 6ish year old so I guess I can relate.
