Your maps were legendary, man! Especially your surrealist/abstract maps. The whole J2 abstract mappack was a masterpiece, and the fact that you had all those other mappers (HomicidalApe, Dr. Boo, AlphaKennyOne, MrBlip, BobJones) inspired to make maps in a similar dreamlike-style shows how influential your creations were. Also, it may sound weird but I have a playlist on my phone I've kept for years of music loops from songs I like, including a bunch of yours as well as ones I made. It has almost 400 in the playlist, haha! Thanks for the inspiration!

I loved your css maps, sucks that func vehicle wasn't ported over to source though, I've played pretty much every one of your maps, and dragged my group of friends onto all of your abstract maps to view them as a dynamic art gallery. You really expressed something that I don't think is ever done, as much as pretentious people want it to be, and thats using games as a medium to make art. What you've made is the closest one can get to an experience of art in a 3 dimensional interactive environment. It really reminds me of this place called the mattress factory, its an art museum with installation art exhibits, the entire room is the art, similar to how each room was like a piece in your abstract maps. I wish more people explored this idea, I myself tried but didn't have the talent and creativity you did.

Nipper’s abstract maps and de_vangogh always have a special place in my heart. I love it when mappers take the game and put it in the realm of imagination. Reminds me that there are still creative and talented people working on games.

What a sweet and heartwarming tribute. Didn’t make me all weepy but it left me with a broad smile on my face towards the end of the video. It really is amazing how much of an impact Nipper had made over the years, how many people from all around the world (myself included) he had inspired, whether he’s aware of it or not. Thank you for this amazing video

I wasn't around the CS era, but i remember lurking on his maps in GMod. It is tons of fun and amazing how well he designed his maps and uses the Source Engine entities and textures to think "outside of the box".
I still have a folder here with most (if not all) JoeTo abstract maps and i ocasionally boot gmod just to walk around them, or to listen to the music cuts on the maps. Those looping ambient music cues along with the environments they are placed in never, NEVER, gets old.
I wish one day i could thank him aswell in a similar way and congratulate him, because he is, very, VERY skilled on mapping.

One of the textures for his house map is that of his family's glass/china cabinet, which I saw had the Utica Club "Schultz and Dooley" beer steins in. Something that's super central/upstate NY. Just a cool thing to me since I'm from the same general area.

CS2 was the final nail in the coffin for custom maps and game modes in CS. It seems that Valve is neglecting what made their games so magical in the past; something that fancy graphics, skins and a new engine can't make up for. Community...

I had a very similar experience, nipper was probably my favorite mapper, I was introduced to his maps on a "fun maps" server, the only difference in my viewpoint is that actually I prefer his css maps, the abstract maps made for css and his various other maps like livehouse deadhouse etc, are still used to this day in garrys mod and the fidelity of css in the maps is vastly superior, like have you played argghhh, zuhhhh or nipper's_opus? they are beautiful with the music included to set the atmosphere of disparate rooms

you got a little too cute with this but i still definitely approve. idk some of the details and screenshots really aren't necessary, the video portion should just be non stop map footage. but you did great with that. you also go from telling stories about yourself and how you felt, to talking about nipper. you are going back and forth a little bit too much so the VO got confusing

Hopefully one day wherever NIPPER is he will have a son to continue his legacy making maps in secret & releasing them for all of the great games that had heart, you'll see NIPPER Jr hidden in the maps, what a great thought
