I really enjoyed this. I live in Frodsham and worked at the ICI plant you passed. The Danny is an amazing boat, such a wonderful story of its restoration. So nice to see the engine room!
Hi Robbie, I paused for a short time in watching you latest vlog on self esteem and then it disappeared! I wanted to tell you how helpful I was finding it. I’ve suffered from low self esteem all my life. Please reconsider pulling it, or at least edit it. I think you said all you needed to in the first half. Incredibly helpful. I wanted to copy the link to my sons.
Robbie, regarding the cost of taking your boat on Manchester Ship Canal (MSC)it depends how you look at it. You seem to think that Peel Ports are ripping you off but analyse those charges and see if you feel differently. Firstly the seaworthiness check was £60 not £100 like you said, and we had no travelling costs because we met our surveyor on the Weaver visitor moorings near where he’s based. Transit of the 36 miles was £178 plus £30 to lock up to the Bridgewater Canal. Total cost £268. Marsh Lock where you moored is free (CRT lock). None of the MSC locks are manned and each requires 2 operators who have to travel to & from them especially for you. If you therefore say 1 hour of their time for each lock including their travelling, x 2 operators, equals 10 man hours which works out at £26.80 per hour. Where else can you get labour rates these days for that price? Is the trip worth it? There’s a lot of monotony during the 7-8 hour journey and not a lot to see, but there are some quite sizeable ships, particularly at the Runcorn end, some moored up and some on the move (you see more of them if you go onto the Ship Canal at Ellesmere Port rather than Marsh Lock). It's a lot of money but despite the monotony I thought it was worth it just for the experience of it all, something different.
Hi mate. I've seen that you've changed a recent video to private, I was about a third of the way through when the page reloaded so I wasn't able to watch the rest. But I just wanted to say you are a proper sound bloke, and I was able to relate to a lot of what you were saying. cheers, all the best.
I’m so sorry about that had to be done unfortunately as was not thinking of impact on others close to me. Cheers for watching and supporting means a lot 👍
Don't sell yourself short Robbie! Sure Foxes did a tour while it was moving and delved a little more into the history, but they didn't show the engine room and the chaps that make it move!
Robbie, you are the greatest. Of all the narrowboat vloggers I watch, yours are by far the best and most truthful. Get yourself a border collie, go and see Barbara Sykes at FOSTBC near Bingley. A border collie will give you 10 times what you give it and the rest. I’m in Halifax, if you’re within 20 miles or so, me and Jess will call in for a brew (just a biscuit for Jess). Chin up mate. Jim
We owe a huge debt of thanks to the volunteers and activists who give up so much time, energy, passion and even money to restore.reclaim/maintain/share our amazing heritage. THANK YOU ALL/ Thanks Robbie for sharing the limelight with these gents. That tug is amazingly restored!

Agree. There is a Liverpool blog where the bloke walked the length of that narrow strip between Man Canal and where you fossicked for high heel shoes Robbie. It's awesome to see another perspective = love the liminal wastelands
What a fabulous steam tug 💨 Its in beautiful condition, that’s the power of volunteers for you 👍 The ship canal...what a ripoff, I don’t blame you for giving it a miss. Nice to get a video from you 👍
You're doing a great job of fixing yourself Robbie. People who research and look for ways of dealing with their issues are less likely to lapse back into habitual behaviours and patterns of thinking. Some therapists and doctors have been known to prescribe library books to encourage people to help themselves rather than relying on medications (prescribed or otherwise). The drink is a distraction Robbie, a means of avoiding things by numbing the mind, procrastination again, procrastination is anxiety, fear of what might happen if you do or don't complete a task so we put it off by worrying too much. The solution to a problem is often found in the problem, completing the tasks we put off solves the problem and boosts self esteem, it's an "esteemable act" (my word for it 🙂). We do the same thing psychologically, we put off dealing with issues but they don't get solved when we do that which is why the video you just uploaded is such a valuable video. Putting things off possibly ties in with low self esteem but it's not always good to label yourself as we all compare ourselves to others, in psychology it's called social comparison but you can find it in religions and philosophy also. It's not good to make ourselves or others feel inferior or superior but we do tend to compare ourselves in relation to others. So we have the meek and mild agreeable people on one end of the scale and the pushy arrogant twats on the other end, somewhere in the middle maybe? Being too agreeable leads to feelings of low self worth and depression. It's a cumulative thing, when we allow others to assert themselves over us we come away feeling like we've been pushed aside or stepped on, it can leave us feeling quite resentful and the outcome usually leads to anger and feelings of depression for allowing others to affect our lives negatively. Drinking excessively is self harm Robbie, there's no easy way to say it, you're turning your resentment inwards when you drink. I do it with biscuits, I have a shit day then I demolish all the biscuits, then I get a headache, then I get fat, the I need another filling in my teeth all because I let someone treat me poorly or I'm beating myself up about another minor defeat in life. Perfectionism is an oxymoron, when a perfectionist scores 99.9% they see it as a failure because its not perfect. Better to be an optimalist, pat yourself on the back when you do well, why? because you did a bloody good job and you gave it your best shot 🙂 WhatsApp support group, excellent idea but watch out for burn out, even counsellors need supervision/counselling from other counsellors. Psychosomatic illness: research the biopsychosocial model. Gabor Mate gives some excellent talks on TH-cam about this concept. There's also some online articles about it. Put simply, our environment, biology and psychology all have the ability to affect each other in turn, it's a very complex model. Social problems, health problems and psychological problems compound each other and can become a tangled mess as you say, anxiety can lead to social phobia which can affect work then the bills don't get paid and so on and so on. You look lost, best place to be, it sounds like everything is pushing you on to another chapter in your life, another challenge maybe? The poem Santiago by David Whyte captures this beautifully and I just so happen to have it uploaded on my channel for times like these. Dante was lost when Virgil appeared, Neo was lost when Morpheus appeared, Daniel Son was lost when Mr. Miage appeared and so begins the hero's journey... What a great time to be alive! You've got this Robbie! Love you man 😉
What an amazing video? Been introduced to you by Chris Cole from a Travellers Notebook Group on Facebook and our love of Canals. I have just watched Canal Boat Dairies on BBC iPlayer and I live in Stourbridge and we have a canal which connects the branch route to either Kidderminster or Dudley. Our Canal has a dry dock as it played a historic past in creating and developing the Stourbridge Lion (1st Steam Locomotive) . Keep up the good work.
This is another of my favorite vlogs..loves the collecting of drift wood ( but hated all the thrown around garbage and wanted to put it all in big garbage bags and take to til your music, cranking it....excellent...........
I'm always looking at that bit of canal from the motorway! Currently got covid but will have to go and have an explore as it always looks so inviting! Hope you're keeping well Robbie! Looking forward to the next upload!
Hi Robbie there is a campaign to restore the Weston & Runcorn Canal just as there is for the Bridgewater canal that ends in Runcorn and they want to reopen it by moving some of it from its original course as there are buildings and paths over the old canal, but the locks are still visible at the end of the canal in Runcorn, as this section leads down to the MSC which in turn leads to the weaver and the Weston & Runcorn canal
Enjoyed this one Robbie and I appreciate your candor in regard to sacrificing your privacy when you offer your life up on TH-cam. I know so many people are grateful for the content you and other Narrowboaters publish each week, it allows us all to at least, vicariously live our Narrowboat adventures. I'd be joining you right now in England on a hire boat if I could, but sadly, I'm not willing to pay the price of an experimental vaccine injected into me, so those plans are on hold. I'm looking forward to the next one, and wishing you all the very best from Avondale, Arizona.
I loved this one about the Weaver. Guinness is good for you. You poured it magnificently robbie. There is not as much iron in it as people think! You can add it to a stew for extra flavour. They have non alcoholcans now as well.
Hello Robbie, David here from Georgia! Love your vids. I think you are a "very cool and righteous dude". I appreciate the fact that you have a life outside of TH-cam vlogging but we all do miss you. Anyway, wishing you good health and continued success with the BBC series.
Robbie, just letting you know we miss your canal life perspective and beer, pub reviews. Hope all is going well. If you are sitting low for the winter have a wonderful Christmas.
So often your videos seem to appear at great timing for me! Been feeling bit low with having covid and on day 7 of isolation!! So thanks for bringing smile to my face Robbie 🥰 x
Another brilliant video, thanks. So pleased you are ok, a long gap between updates....been getting worried about you fella. Stay safe and keep up the excellent work Robbie. PS: Just back from a weeks hire of a narrow boat on the Oxford. Great fun on the very shallow twisty bits!
Hi Robbie. When I was somewhat younger (ha ha) I remember the locks going down the hill from the Bridgewater Canal at Runcorn to the Weaver Navigation. They were still in water then. Great shame they were filled-in. Seems kids couldn't stay away from them and too many accidents. Hopefully they can be restored as they would make an excellent circular tour using the Anderton Boat Lift. Keep well, stay safe. Bobby D.
Robbie, when I don’t see a video from you I get really worried that you’re ok. (I watch too many Brit cop shows). But here’s a new video and I’m glad you are ok. Love your videos and although we’ve never met I consider you a friend. If we met I’m sure we would be. I’m not a beer drinker though so don’t hold that against me. Wishing you well! Don’t worry! I won’t peek into your boat.
If you ever get the privilege to meet him, please do so because he is such a humble gentlemen! Great giggle too! We were in a pub to watch the football game and a girl comes round with a board to guess what minute the 1st goal will be scored, so me being useless and never carrying any cash (always use card) Robbie here gives me a quid to guess a number. Producer Stu puts his on 12 and I go on 11. Goal is scored in the 11th minute, the girl comes back and says "you're both sharing it" and me being a footie coach said "it was scored in the 11th not 12th lol" and then it was decided I won and then I felt guilty and so it was decided we split it 3 ways. Because without Rob giving me the 1 pound it wouldn't have happened, without me guessing 11 it wouldn't have happened, and without Producer Stu none of us would be there in that moment!! 🤣
Glad to see you back on You Tube. I assume you are doing more work for the BBC? I’ll have to wait till I can stream it in the US. Take care of yourself and be safe. We, your fans, should get together and deliver a case of your favorite beverage!
Saw your last vid... (that's gone now) hope your doing OK! And if ya ever make it too york and fancy a brew hit us up I'm sure ya can tie alongside 😊👍🏼take care fella
That looked like a lonely stretch of canal you were on and moored up at. Guinness on tap is always good but the new canned Guinness vs prior canning method is much better. I am also a big fan of Guinness Blonde which goes down well on hot days and does not have a bitter after taste of an IPA.
Great to have another vlog from you on TH-cam. I've been enjoying CBD in the meantime (it's a legal high don't you know). I hope Auntie commissions another series.
Hi Robie, Not been on for a while am still in New Zealand due to various Governments involvement. But I will turn up on my NB for sure. my first trip will be aimed at the Trent so I can see nottingham and see if Home Ales still in business. Take care robbie John still in NZ Kaiora;.
Great to see and hear you again I am 100% in agreement with you over access charges to the Manchester Ship Canal being obscene. Hope your keeping okay How's Alice and daughter ? Keep on cranking it Your a Top vloger 🙂 Keep safe dry warm and virus free.
I’m not sure about the size all the ones I’ve bought have been the same, if a little too thin at times. But they’re not hard to come by I’ve even bought them from a bong shop outside Birmingham train station before 😂
Robbie Forgot Is Your BBC series available to Buy On DVD ??> I know it's on I-player, but only for so long.. Its a nice option For winter Nights Chilled viewing? cheers tc
Hi Robbie I have narrow boat Peggy Rue if you see me on ya travels. Question why don’t you try cruising the river Nene down to Peterborough you could allso do the middle levels and on to the great river Ouse and down to Cambridge would luv to see the videos
Hi Robbie, great to have your videos again. I was brought up near Northwich so I feel it's like going home though I was to young to remember it apart from the place names. My dream is to have a holiday on a narrowboat but as I am single and 71 now I can't see a way forward. Any ideas welcome for finding someone to pay to drive the boat I would hopefully hire? The guinness looked like a good glass of fuel after a day's work! Best wishes, Lesley.
Hi Lesley you’ll have no end of help if you can join your local boat group perhaps on Facebook or in person. Boaters mostly hibernate in winter but they are usually v helpful!
Hi robbie great vlog keep up the good work just like to say your videos are just has good has the foxes probably better looking forward to the new series have a great day
Thank you Robbie, great video....if I ever see you on the canal, I will try and stop myself jumping up and down and waving! I will just leave some beers for you to find to say thank you 🙂
Having seen the effect hawthorne flowers apparently can have on people, I probably should be careful when using my freshly made hawthorne glycerite xD Great to see you, I especially loved the time lapse of getting ready to crank it. Kurbeln Sie!
As someone originally from Merseyside, I've always considered that area near Runcorn to be a Bladerunner-esque dystopian no man's land. Industrial, polluted and ugly. However, you made it look really interesting. And what is with so many popular TH-cam narrowboaters gathering in the same location? Surreal in a way.
@@matthewoliver6655 instead of beach combing when you go along and find all sorts along the beech its the same along rivers etc.. amazing what you can find along the tide edge.
I thought your coverage of the steam boat Danny Adamson was complementary to the Foxes' one. I liked the interview with the engineers and seeing more of the engine room. Another excellent video :) BTW can some Brit explain why saying it's chilly outside is a weird/off thing? I'm somewhat well-versed in British vs American but always learning (even about new Americanisms).
High Robbie, love your Vlogs, sorry you didn’t make the Lanky, we did it for you. We are now heading for Skipton and moored at Eanham Wharf, in the Calypso Bar , they remember you well unfortunately the cockatoo as passed on . Keep on Cranking. Neil Gina, Walking on Water X
I am not a great fan of Guinness but I will say that the "extra stout" is the preferable choice, if you can find it (not so easy in Canada but it can be found). I really dislike the "widgets" (I call them depth charges) that blast the brew with tasteless nitrogen froth. Draw me a pint from a cask.
No. The MSC is a serious commercial link, and you would be sharing it with very large ocean-going vessels - hence the extra licence conditions. The Bridgewater is just a normal canal, with normal canal boats on it. The only wrinkle is licencing - the normal CRT licence which covers the rest of the network doesn't apply on the Bridgewater. There are various reciprocal arrangements so you can transit for a few days without paying extra.
Loved the vlog Robbie 👍...I work in the ineos plant there and love the river Weaver ...let me know when your down Ellesmere way and I'll drop you some beers off 👍👍🍺🍺
Bridge cant stop you, plenty of room if you get the Lass lower in the water. Flood forward tanks, on the 1MC DIVE DIVE DIVE Its a NarrowUboat, aint it?
Robbie.where.s your bike gone its normally on your boat roof. Anyway. Have a good nites sleep. I don't suppose you are in bed yet so I'm going back to watch some more of your journey..( keep on Kranking )Ian.from nottingham
great vlog Robbie. Loved the quick tour of the Daniel. Yes Guinness is best drunk from draught but if it comes down to bottle or can then I will stick with the can. Bottle is to gassy for my liking. Keep safe Pal...
Robbie! No comment just Robbie! Will watch in the morning but it's good to see you back 👍🏻
Great video Robbie, brings wonderful memories back of that trip by the five of us.
"A days Cranking" Cheers Robbie. Good to see you and Naughty Lass.
They already have. :-)
@@TheBowelsOfLove They've made a good decision in that case. I just hope they get it scheduled quickly.
Hmmm quickly you say 🤔 We’re three months behind on filming due to covid so who knows, but I’m just glad it’s wanted!
@@RobbieCumming It's very wanted. I work for the opposition but recognise the perfect fit you have with BBC TV audiences One, Two and Four.
Thanks Matthew I appreciate that!
Came down from Ellesmere Port to Marsh Lock in April as the breach by Wharton Lock had me trapped. Have to say I loved it.
Oh, the end bit with the Bass Face. I am learning electric Bass guitar. I wonder if I have a Bass face yet?
👍 Find that pocket and get ready to gurn
Hi Robie, Not been on for a while am still in New Zealand due to various Governments involvement. But I will turn up on my NB for sure. my first trip will be aimed at the Trent so I can see nottingham and see if Home Ales still in business. Take care robbie John still in NZ Kaiora;.
Nice one, cheers Robbie🍻stay safe.
Never fail to be anything less than visually stimulating content. Your videos are lovely, like Guinness Extra in a glass bottle!
Thank you!
Hi Robbie. I really enjoyed Canal Boat Diaries season 2. Caught up with them a bit late. Good luck for the next part of your life, whatever it is.
Great to see and hear you again
I am 100% in agreement with you over access charges to the Manchester Ship Canal being obscene.
Hope your keeping okay
How's Alice and daughter ?
Keep on cranking it
Your a Top vloger 🙂
Keep safe dry warm and virus free.
Hi David yes we’re good thank you!
Robbie, can I ask you where get your excellent neck scarves from, please? Many thanks.
Market stall!
@@RobbieCumming You're joking!? The one's I bought on eBay are crappy, miniscule things! Market stall, really? I'm gutted. ☹
Its a nice option For winter Nights Chilled viewing? cheers tc
No sorry! Would defo be a good option. Record it on VHS next time it’s on telly
Guiness is better at he brewery in Dublin. It takes a looooong time to pour but tastes wonderful.
Really enjoyed your blog, Robbie. We also liked Devil's Garden. 👍
Great video and engine room heaven.
Hi Robbie
I have narrow boat Peggy Rue if you see me on ya travels. Question why don’t you try cruising the river Nene down to Peterborough you could allso do the middle levels and on to the great river Ouse and down to Cambridge would luv to see the videos
Maybe I will one day! Cheers James
That was hilarious at the end 🤣
Hi Robbie, great to have your videos again. I was brought up near Northwich so I feel it's like going home though I was to young to remember it apart from the place names. My dream is to have a holiday on a narrowboat but as I am single and 71 now I can't see a way forward. Any ideas welcome for finding someone to pay to drive the boat I would hopefully hire? The guinness looked like a good glass of fuel after a day's work! Best wishes, Lesley.
Pick me,Pick me. I would pilot Drive the boat for you, but the Locks would be down to you.
Hi Lesley you’ll have no end of help if you can join your local boat group perhaps on Facebook or in person. Boaters mostly hibernate in winter but they are usually v helpful!
@@stevejohnson5461 Great to have the offer, thanks!
Thanks Robbie.
Well Karma sails on the channel as well Robbie. Keep being you my dear.
Another fine production Robbie, Many thanks. Cannot wait for CBD series 3 🍺. All the Best and Cheers !!!
Hi robbie great vlog keep up the good work just like to say your videos are just has good has the foxes probably better looking forward to the new series have a great day
Thank you Robbie, great video....if I ever see you on the canal, I will try and stop myself jumping up and down and waving! I will just leave some beers for you to find to say thank you 🙂
Ha ha I mean either is fine!! 😂
Yes, they say Guinness doesn't travel well. Its much more creamery in Ireland and also has a whiter head than UK.
Hi Robbie will there b a series 3 canal diaries great vids as usual Colin
Hi Colin yes we are filming it at the moment 👍
Just pressed pause on 3 seconds often vid but I already know its great and I'm going to love it 😀💓💗💖
Nice to see you back on TH-cam. Interesting steam boat.🙂
Having seen the effect hawthorne flowers apparently can have on people, I probably should be careful when using my freshly made hawthorne glycerite xD Great to see you, I especially loved the time lapse of getting ready to crank it. Kurbeln Sie!
Yes Caro be careful it’s potent stuff! Kurbeln sie 😂🤘
Hi Robbie, saw you in the Station in Morecambe. Would love to of spoken to you but you were with your family. Enjoy your beer.
Ah thanks would have been no bother to have said hello! 🤓👍
@@RobbieCumming I’m back in here now, come back lol.
Ha ha I’m back on the boat 😂😂😂
@@RobbieCumming maybe next time. We back in Gloucestershire.
Love all that river combing to see what has been left behind!! X
What does that mean? Thx
@@matthewoliver6655 instead of beach combing when you go along and find all sorts along the beech its the same along rivers etc.. amazing what you can find along the tide edge.
Hello Robbie,
Good to see you.... I like Guinness from all sources... See you on the next one...
Take care.
Paul,,
Cheers bud, speckled hen for me dood. X
Thanks Robbie....enjoyed that
Something rather beautiful about the isolated lock among the industrial lagoons.
Agreed couldn’t not stop to have a look around
@@RobbieCumming Pity, you had the wood to keep warm but maybe not the time to 'stand and stare.' By the way, your videos are a treasure of creativity.
Yes that’s about right! Thank you very much
I thought your coverage of the steam boat Danny Adamson was complementary to the Foxes' one.
Peel own the Bridgewater Canal as well. Is it as complicated to travel on that as it is on the MSC?
Loved the vlog Robbie 👍...I work in the ineos plant there and love the river Weaver ...let me know when your down Ellesmere way and I'll drop you some beers off 👍👍🍺🍺
Never seen a base guitar strummed before or was you finger picking fast 😅
I enjoy a little bit of both but in this case muted picking 👍
Hi roby are you OK not having seen any new posts.
All the best 👍
I’m ok just been working on TV show but that’s done now onto the next vlog to finish off this series and new album hopefuly too
That's good I'm up on the macc

Robbie.where.s your bike gone its normally on your boat roof. Anyway. Have a good nites sleep. I don't suppose you are in bed yet so I'm going back to watch some more of your journey..( keep on Kranking )Ian.from nottingham
Thanks Ian it’s at the end of this canal 😢 th-cam.com/video/wegynNat5Vk/w-d-xo.html
Another very entertaining video. You're the best Robbie.
Awesome vlog, thanks Robbie😉👍
great vlog Robbie. Loved the quick tour of the Daniel. Yes Guinness is best drunk from draught but if it comes down to bottle or can then I will stick with the can. Bottle is to gassy for my liking. Keep safe
Pal...
Where did you come up with the current and past number of navigable miles?
